Entropy & 2nd Law of Thermodynamics - Explained in Simple Terms

- In this lesson, we will discuss the second law of thermodynamics in physics. We discuss the concept of disorder, and the states of a system. We discuss that through collisions or other mechanisms, systems in nature tend to increase their disorder. We measure the disorder through the concept of entropy, or number of microstates per macrostate. We discuss that entropy of the universe is always increasing. Locally a system can decrease its entropy, but only at the expense of the larger encompassing system's entropy increasing even more so that the net entropy still increases over time.

As always, another excellent lecture by an excellent teacher with an excellent explanation. We all love you Jason Sir.
Wow, thank you!
You are a blessing, you are a hero, and your my idle! I hope one day after all this hard times in college learning math and Physics and engineering, I hope after all of that I become at least as half as wise and educated as you are Mr. Jason. Live long Jason!!!!
How are you such a good teacher? My God your explanations are impressive
Thank you so much!
Thank you for taking the time to explain this in the clearest way possible.
❤
you are my favorite teacher! Chemistry is so easy because i have you!!!!
Thank You Sir🤝🤝💯💫
Professor,I have a question here . 2nd law states that Energy has a quality as well as quantity .Here quality refers to what? I do not understand the meaning of quality in this sentence? Is there low quality energy or high quality energy etc?
Which environment is favorable for sound propagation, hot or cold?
4:40 ehem, gravitational fields... they defy your claim that nothing can maintain its force.
thanks
Welcome!
