At the end of the movie, you’re completely convinced that jaideep is the main lead in the story. And Kareena and Vijay are merely supporting characters.
Na, You’re lying. You already knew what an incredible actor Jaideep is and that hardly anyone, male or female can beat him. You just wanted to be nasty towards Kareena because she provokes jealousy in people like you. No need to put down the other actors when they also did incredibly well and were praised by all.
The real star of "Jaane Jaan" is Jaideep Ahlawat. His portrayal of Naren is nothing short of a masterclass in acting and character depth. His enigmatic character keeps you hooked until the big reveal. He's a true powerhouse of talent 👏
The climax was confusing. Dr I'd Naren kill a beggar or was it just his imagination? In which case there should be two bodies. Somebody explain if you can.
There has to be a sequel to this man. The way Maya just realizes that teacher's plan is great and plays accordingly is flawless. She was almost composed when she knew teacher will take care of it. She escaped the abusive husband she changed her name and has successfully been avoiding him. She's smart. Not once she hesitated or made a mistake from her side, even when she messed up she was calm about it, no hesitation while talking to the police and so much more. She knew that when needed teacher would take the fall for her and she was ready for it. She once even said hum teacher k student thodi h. These maybe are hints for a deeper story or maybe just loose points. There is so much more to her character that should've been explored. Maybe they will. But yeah that would have turned a good film into a classic one.
True ..she was seducing both of naren and karan why she does that is not explained..she also is all the time like I don't get it ..I think she actually gets it ..and her true secret went away with her husband..maybe she did something back in the days..also she says she was sold by her husband in the bar which actually didn't look like to be the case when her past was shown for a bit ..when her younger self was pole dancing and her husband was there too ..
Fun fact: When the 'Drishyam' became popular, an interviewer in kerala asked the same question to Jeetu joseph. His witty reply was "George kutty is an avid movie watcher, so he might have watched this film too" 😊😊 The evil genius knows how to outsmart everyone.
@@TriedRefusedProductions yeah, people don't call him out, because he has made some good movies like Memories,Drishyam 2,Kooman etc. You can see certain inspirations in the movie 'Memories' too. Whatever it is, the guy knows how to make thriller movies with "emotional lock" "He is a classic criminal"😁😁
SPOILER ALERT- I liked the movie. But, when you watch a good thriller with a good starcast, your excitement builds up throughout the movie and you expect a shocking twist at the end. The ending of Jaane Jaan for me was okayish, I was expecting much more. Throughout the movie, I felt there was something off about Kareena's character. After murdering someone, she was so normal from the next day, no amount of fear on her face and even her daughter was so chill. And , in the climax, how easily he let Jaideep go behind the bars, no guilt or gratitude for him. Jaideep has been shown as the mastermind in the whole movie like Ajay in drishyam, I thought the main twist in the end would be that Kareena is the actual mastermind here, playing innocent woman all along and manipulating everyone around him, also some twist related to her daughter. But, sadly that didnt happen. Although, it was sort of a happy ending, where Jaideep protected his second love (Kareena) and reunited with his first love (Mathematics), because the real world didn't respect his passion.
Every second web series or movie on Netflix and other OTTs have Vijay Verma. Verma was born in a perfect era, otherwise mainstream Bollywood would have rejected him straight away.
@kochikame363 aur ghatiya actors ko main role bolte hai, Vijay Verma broke the shackles, and proved that anyone who has potential to act honestly and effortlessly can get the main protagonist role. OTTs made him a star.
Loved how kareena kapoor has elevated her characters and her choices throughout her career and #JaaneJaan does elevates and it’s amazing September 1:12 jaideep alahwats a character was so sweet
When I first read The Devotion Of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino, I was genuinely shocked by the sheer addictive nature of the novel. It was simply unputdownable as they say! When I watched Drishyam, I was happy that Indian cinema decided to adopt the story of the novel but some creative choices left me disappointed. I’m glad an official adaption is here in form of “Jane Jaan”.
Kareena gives iconic performances with meaty roles(even during the early years like 'Chameli'), those characters got overshadowed by popular characters like Geet. N same is the thing even with Aishwarya, the whole beauty diva thing is good but her acting calibre in Raincoat, Provoked, Choker Bali is underrated and not talked about enough.
Most of the attention does go towards commercial projects because they are indicative of more box office revenue. Sadly the most compelling work of actively working actors is the least watched and appreciated. It is what it is.
Her best performance is in Omkara....I didn't find a single false note in that performance... People often talk about Langda Tyagi,Omi Shukla, but how Kareena performed as Dolly Mishra is unparalleled
What everyone is missing is that even 'DEVOTION of Suspect X's' main twist is very similar and inspired from OG AGATHA CHRISTIE 's book ' The body in the Library' where the main twist that the CULPRIT does another murder to change his alibi to a convenient time and place was done and dusted!
There is nothing original in this world everything is inspired from somewhere else question is how much of it can create something new that doesn't resembles the inspiration that's where writers real skills shows up
But Devotion of suspext X was darker than the body in the Library and now I know why I was able to figure out the Body in the Library! Because I had read the devotion of suspext X before it.
Ok, I haven't read DEVOTION of Suspect X's. However I was wondering are there any theory as in what Naren did with the original Ajith's body? Or probably there might be 2nd season where the original body might be identified.
I thoroughly enjoyed Jaane Jaan. I have thoughts though. Maya managing to escape an abusive husband, creating a new identity for herself and avoiding detection for 15 years really established the intellectual prowess of the character. This could be used further. She looked at the clock at 9 when she murdered her husband, and went to check outside. What if she was checking if teacher was on his way back? What if she knew she could use her charm to get the teacher to do her bidding in at least hiding the body? Maybe the teacher did want to get away with the perfect crime. But Maya knew there is nothing called a perfect crime. Maybe the teacher did want to burn traces of Ajit completely, but Maya could've created a distraction while he was burning the clothes to seem like someone chanced upon them and could've led him to flee, thus not completely burning the body. Also, it just seemed odd that Prema would talk to Vijays character after so long. What if Maya instructed her to do so, saying that I do fancy him, but tell him covertly. Just some thoughts lol, which would've made Maya the true "Devotion" of suspect X.
Well, what's more intense is" Maya's past life was never revealed" maybe she already killed her husband long ago,and now she wanted to come out of her identity. She lured perfectly till the end.
Also the body of Ajit was never mentioned so we don't know where it is or what happened to it and another point which I noticed that at the end of film when Kareena leaves the police station you see some people entering the station, if you look closely you will notice that those were the same people who were sleeping next to the homeless man who was killed. What if they are his relatives and came to report of him missing this opens up a lot of possibilities.
Holy shit the last point could actually be true. When she found out he was leaving for Mumbai she used her friend to get him to stay because there was definitely a lot more to maya than we were let on
Jaideep Ahlawat is such an underrated gem, he needs to get more opportunity in Mainstream Bollywood film's instead of being typecast as the Ott or Independent film actor❤
I think he is definitely more than an OTT actor. Post Pataal Lok, thankfully he's getting a lot of opportunities. The man is too talented not to be getting full fledged roles in commercial movies!
Independent film industry is 100 times better than mainstream cinima ,if India needs good cinima ,it necessary to independent film industry to thrive in India
I liked the fact the father in Drishyam was an avid movie fan and that this helped him execute his plan. It endeared the audience to a man who is less educated but very intelligent taking on the big leagues. That was one of the main things that drew me to his character.
@@SnehaShetty14 You can try all of Keigo Higashino's books. Also, you can read the original novel too. They climax in the movie is also different from the book so you won't be spoiled. The second book, Salvation of a Saint was also great.
The fact that this book is amazing and it took this long to realise that Drishyam is “inspired” in the age of internet is nothing short of absolutely amazing!
@@TriedRefusedProductions I'm sorry. But you aren't the first to know this .. malayalam fan base has discussed and talked about this for years. There are reddit pages from 8 years before pertaining to the same . You can't take credit for this. Just because the Hindi masses didn't know ! Also , the only common thread is the premise of a lie . The rest is all original plot plus drishyam 2 is proof that jeethu Joseph didn't need to rip off a novel unlike ekta kapoor.
There is definitely a difference between the novel’s ending and how the movie ended, and coincidentally I read and watched both respectively. I have to applaud Sujoy Ghosh for bringing his own vibe and flavour to the story inside of copying the whole plot line by line. And Jaydeep Ahlawat is absolutely the star of the movie and borderline dilemma his character poses for the audience.
Why don't they offer these roles to Karisma Kapoor? 😢 It has a great potential as an actor! Bring back Karisma Kapoor, we all love her! If Sunny Deol can make a comeback at the ripe of 66, and be successful then why NOT bet on Karisma! ❤❤❤
The only common aspects between the stories of Drishyam and Jaane Jan are, getting away with murder committed by a mother/daughter duo. Other than that EVERYTHING else is different. It is silly and "micro" to compare the two otherwise. Drishyam was a far superior movie generally. The acting was better in Jaane Jan. Lastly, Kareena Kapoor did a great job and my goodness this lady looks great without (or minimal) makeup indeed.
SPOILER WARNING for Drishyam 1&2 + Jaane Jaan The big similarity is in how the alibi is constructed. In Drishyam, the accidental killing happens late night on Oct 2nd. Devgan spends Oct 3rd disposing of the body, buying movie tickets, bus tickets, Pav bhaji, and goes to the ATM. All alone. Then, on October 4th, he does all the same actions (except ATM) but with his family. Then he visits all the places again a few days later, talks to the witnesses, subtly puts the idea in their heads that he last met them on Oct 3rd, not the 4th to support the alibi his family was away 2-3, not 3-4. All the witnesses are convinced they met them on Oct 3rd. That was the cleverness of the alibi that mesmerized everyone. Jaane Jaa also relies on the alibi being constructed the day after the accidental killing. But instead of manipulating the witnesses, the body itself is manipulated. And swapping a corpse this is the big and final twist in Drishyam 2 (but not as dark as Jaane Jaan). Not an outright copy but definitely inspired by the novel.
@@noumanintown Dude, you've put up spoilers galore and it will piss off those who have not watched these movies. Anyway, both may be Biryanis but you can't say that Hyderabadi Biryani is the same as Thalapakatti Biryani.
@@MinisterOfAffairs ah thanks, I don’t know why I thought this was a spoiler discussion video. Probably mixed up between tabs and thought I was commenting elsewhere.
Also, I have to really appreciate that entire drawing room scene with Ajit. The physical fight, the vulgar dialogues, the camera work to show his ill-intentions ---- perfection! Felt like seeing a realistic domestic violence.
I think the climax would’ve been more Gripping if, Kareena would’ve actually manipulated him to kill and Jaydeep would’ve gone crazy or something, that would’ve been quite flipping! Imo ❤️
I WAS THINKING EXACTLY THIS! A perfect climax indeed would have been if Kareena and Vijay had a sinister laugh as Jaideep was behind bars. Duping him to commit the murder and having a side fling with Vijay along the way to screw him over. Full FIDA vibes!
The book does it much better. The police guy is actually 3 different characters in the book. They also dont tell you about the suicide attempt till the end in the book. Tje book is "devotion" of Suspect X btw. Its all.about his devotion. the movie maybe doesnt make the devotion more clear and hence you talk about the different ending.
Jaideep has such screen presence along with talent. I had read the book and seen drishyam still the movie kept my interest partly cause of Jaideep. A short scene where he is alone on a street at night and doing a martial art move, was so captivating
Love how Kareena can shine in understated performance in this one and LSC and love her even more in commercial cinema absolutely banging in a 10 seconds cameo in something like chinta ta and the best or worst part about all of this is she would never talk, behave or even take credit as a thespian….eerie in a sense
So true, when she was changing it felt like it was intentional. I also was hoping that she knew that the teacher was peeping. If it was a series, the indepth journey of characters would have been so good
Two of my favourite actors VIJAY VERMA and Jaideep Ahlawat 😍😍 u appreciate that's they both didn't take any role for granted and gave their best in every role they featured in ❤.....Vijay Verma has a range of playing Problematic husband in Darling to play a Pyscho killer in Dahaad, to playing a shy under confident person in Kaalkoot and Jaideep is just wow😍 in The Action Hero .......As a cinema lover I just love and excited that's we have so many brilliant actors in the field and Webseries culture gave them enough opportunities to showcase their talent..
Him being asked to set an easy paper felt like a trigger to me which made Jaydeep to decide to take the blame, because no one is truly understanding him and his favourity Mathematics...
As a fan of the book as well as the author, I am excited to watch the movie. Drishyam has always been an unauthorised copy but Jeethu Joseph had Indianised it and made it so relatable that both the movies in the series were a great commercial success. The actual story per book is little niche. I think there’s space for both the movies to co exist
Exactly. I think the reason why Drishyam is not dismissed as a mere remake or adaptation is because of the details the director made unique to the world. And yes you are bang on about the fact that a faithful adaptation of the book is rather niche, hence a digital release makes way more sense!
As an audience who haven't read or seen the other adaptations of the source material, the fact that you mention Drishyam a parallel to this film is the worst spoiler one can provide. I remember after watching Kahaani I posted that it made me remember The Usual Suspects... spoiled the fun for a lot of my friends. I can feel the same for myself now!
These were Exactly my thoughts when I saw the thumbnail 😂 And was looking for someone in comments. Glad you mentioned This means Jammy is concerned more this time about his earning via views rather than our emotions. 😢 That thumbnail was straight give away.. Thank God, I opened YT after finishing the movie 😂
I think its been spoken about for years that Drishyam has parallels with The Devotion Of Suspect X. This discourse has carried on for close to a decade. It's not as if I got the cat out of the bag out of nowhere
@@TriedRefusedProductions the disclosure was very grounded till now and only a few percentage of people may have known only. But revealing/spreading the plot as a Clickbait Thumbnail this casually is definitely not good. You seriously have ruined thousands of people's experience of this proper thriller of a movie as I can bet after watching that thumbnail and few minutes of this video's starting everyone can easily discover the parallels mid movie thus losing the finale's thrill. Here you did Wrong Jammy. Just for the views!!
Another thing drishyam is superior is coz the mastermind isn't caught in the end..... Drishyam's climax feels gud in a sense that oh yes they aren't caught.... Which is not the case with jaane jaan.... Even ajay in 2nd part said that "logo ko aise ending pasand nahi aati jha hero pakda jaye"
SPOILER ALERT: Great acting by all 03 protagonists but what a SHALLOW climax… I mean they didn’t show how the biggest issue at the crime scene was taken care of? Disposing off dead body of AJIT ?? Plus a clean plan has to save every one .. if the teacher has to take all blame on him, ruining his repute as a murderer and psycho, no need for such detailing, just drag the body out of Maya’s home & surrender … or much easier to try to built up a case of self defense / support by Naren as to save a sexual assault of mother - daughter, rather than killing an innocent homeless and making it much more complex by creating such a long alibi …. In contrast Drishiyam , hiding body beneath construction and saving EVERYONE was the real goal achieved !!!
Such a spot on review. The story was so weak and come on. Killing an innocent man? How is that alright? If the twist was Maya used the teachers obsession over her to get away with murder or if the teacher has managed to get everyone out with a murder by convincing police there was no murder would have made a much better story. Instead they muddled it all up with having the teacher who had no sociopathic tendencies gruesomely kill an innocent man to cover up a murder and Maya who could have proved her innocence because her husband has done some really bad stuff (though she had no way of knowing that she will get justice). Didn't make sense. Also, the husband who is so evil took 14 years to find his wife who was apparently his cash cow? Why now? You think he would have moved on to better things by then? Would have made so much sense if he was chasing her all along and she had to constantly keep running away from him and finally got tired of running away. Also, all she does after finding out he went to school to see her daughter is to drag her home and cook dinner? Shouldn't she have been packing to run to next city when he comes. If that was her fate all along would have made sense she killed him because she is just tired of it all. It had potential but lost along the way. What I liked best was when the local cop says single mothers don't have time for all this, I know because I was raised by one and Karan looks embarrassed for his insensitive comments earlier..
Remember the scene where the principal reprimanded Naren for making the tests too difficult. That's Naren's flaw: he gets joy out of making problems overly complicated. So he created this plan to kill a second person, because he's so in love with Maya/Soniya that he wants to prove to her how smart and amazing he is.
@@AndhraAdapaduchu775 well, Naren was bordering on creepy, he was never right in the head. I mean, listening through the wall, staring at her all day... I dont think his initial plan was to confess. He came up with that part when Police started suspecting she had an accomplice.
Everyone knew that Drishyam was inspired by the Malayalam Drishyam and the Devotion of Suspect X, which was inspired by Suspect X, the book. I am not sure how it is a mystery... People lauded Jeethu Joseph for indianizing the whole thing so much so that it was remade in different languages with different actors. Drishyam 2 is completely different in this regard and deserves appreciation for being an original through and through.
The actors were indeed phenomenal but the direction felt pretty weak in this one. Even writing at some places. The characters should’ve been more fleshed out so as to match their motivations- the backstory of Maya, the character of the daughter, Teacher’s love/obsession with Maya, all of it had so much more potential. None of it seemed good enough to actually make me root for them. And even though this was an official adaption, I feel Drishyam was a way better movie experience.
Kareena was pure gold in this movie. I think her role was more challenging than Jaideep Ahlawat due to the fact that major portion of his character depended heavily and was done perfectly by the prosthetics. Kareena was mostly on her own doing on bare minimum. She had most screen time and it’s extremely difficult to get away with mistakes. And what an amazing job she did throughout never letting anything go away. Another feather in her hat. Similarly, Vijay Verma was as natural as he could be. His wits and expressions in every sequence. It is amazing how he plays such complex characters and still manages to come out as so much likeable. Absolutely, no doubt that Jaideep was brilliant and by far his best work.
After watching Drishyam, I had read the novel 'The Devotion of Suspect X' and found it to be completely different except for the basic premise of throwing the police off the scent. Drishyam was of course very very loosely based on the novel. So diluted that while reading the story I was waiting for the major twists from the movie but they never arrived. The novel ends in a rather bizarre manner where the whole efforts of the mathematician are wasted. Something completely different in Drishyam where the protagonist is successful.
I prefer the climax of Drishyam than the one in the novel and adaptations. Hence, the spoiler discussion regarding the parallels and comparison. There are proper threads of readers being frustrated with the climax lol
Maybe people miss the fact that he had checked in at a hotel and he will be reported missing and being in the area the only pointer is at Kareena's character. To protect her, the alibi has to be created and Naren has to become the Suspect X.
I don't understand what did people like about the plot and why aren't they pointing out the loop holes. 1) Why did Naren have to kill another man if he intended to prove that the body is of Ajit...Cmon, the forensics never give an accurate time of the death..there's always a range of several hours...so just to show that Ajit died on 10th and not on 9th is a loose plot. 2) If he could successfully hide the body of Ajit then why the need to produce another one. Body chupa do..murder hua hi nahi. Nobody goes to jail. So in all these aspects Drishyam is a far superior movie to the original novel.
1) coz Ajit died on 9th and Maya had no alibi. the coroner could identify the time of death. so killed a man on 10th around the same time. (that was clearly explained) while forensics cant accurately pin point a time, they give a window of 4-6 hours. To give her a solid aliby, he made sure it was at least 24 hours 2) as long as there is no body, the police will always suspect be hovering in the area. its better to get it over with.
There are a few similarities between Drishyam and the novel, but the stories are still quite different. Drishyam's point being what you see is what you'll remember, the novel's point is in its title.
That's the word that describes my thoughts about jaideep's character. Cautious on how we feel about the character. He did a great job creating this caution in us
Agreed. If I hadn't watched Drishyam, I would have enjoyed Jaane Jaan a lot more. Jaideep Ahlawat is a beast! The same thing I felt towards the end of the film is that, on one hand, Jaane Jaan is more realistic while Drishyam had more drama and masala. However, I enjoyed Drishyam more. I guess that's where Indie films suffer because even if they have a very realistic feel to it, not many can give you the thrills that a pinch of masala can. It's also a fair assumption that commercial/mass movies work because a person who is living a monontonous life, while watching the movie, believes that he/she can be such a superstar, who jumps over buildings, dances with his/her beloved, defeats evil, saves the day, and is appreciated by all.
Amazing acting by the cast was the highlight for me. When it comes to the plot, I believe getting yourself blamed for a murder is an easy way out and maybe it'd have been tougher (read much more impressive) to see Jaideep not getting framed at all and Vijay being the cop who couldn't make an arrest. I was always waiting for Jaideep and Vijay on the screen. Thanks @tried&rejected for beautifully explaining Jaideep's complex role
As a nepali myself I have to watch it 4 times to understand nepali she was speaking. These little things tells how much you r devoted to character u r playing
I read the 'Devotion of Suspect X' in 2019 and found the book very impactfull and jaw-dropping when the climax is revealed. Also I felt the messaging at the end of Jaane Ja was a bit different from how it was in the book, the book not being a happy ending, but both Jaane Ja and Drishyam sort of being a happy ending. Plus, the book made me feel also about how inconsequential the lives of certain class of people in our societies are and even if someone goes missing, noone would even bat an eye or look for them, that ending made me think. But that impact was completely missing in Jaane Ja and I felt the climax should have been given more time to breathe for this to feel more personal and familiar. Although the cast have done a phenomenal job, (Kudos to Ahlawat especially), Ishigami will still remain my favourite version of Naren, George Kutty or Vijay Salgaonkar.
SPOLIER ** The maths problem for Jaideep's character was to save Maya & her daughter and also himself from going to jail. Sadly he could only solve half! 😂 Ajay in Drishyam though not clever in maths solved the whole problem - nor he or his family were convicted! 😂 I actually didn't understand why he had to do all the confession drama. Police already knew his unknown whereabouts on 10th and his likeness for maya, enough to investigate him, jail him for sometime maybe but still there would be no proof/confession. I thought after his confession acting, police would have found out body is of another person & then let him free stating that he is mentally unstable and making stories 😅 Jaideep was on fire. Only disappointed at the end, kareena & her daughter didn't look grateful enough for Jaideep taking the blame, too rushed. It made me think if maya is the actual mastermind afterall 😂😂
I guess Jaydeep role was best considering he has more to do with the role he was given. Each actor did their part well. But I was hoping for more darker thrill n story. Also I was looking for more dark character from Kareena but whatever was given they did their best and location music everything was good. It's just the story which was not the best thriller but a ok one considering we have seen so much in this genre.
Jaideep's performance made me so uncomfortable like gosh! The last gruesome act of killing a stranger... 😰 This made me realise what a terrific and stellar performer he is! 👏🏻 Also whenever he looked at Kareena I couldn't help but feel his look creepy and he was always sort of stalking her😅 Also, Kareena and Vijay also rocked. Tara was sooo irritating always "Mumma, mumma, mumma" 😂😅 but that's why I have to appreciate the child actor. She did a good job! But but now, I felt that the movie lacked something.... and no I'm not only pointing towards the end 😂 but rather other points... I understand the makers creative choice, decision and outlook but to me it lacked something (I can't particularly pinpoint what). It started out good but rushed the end. Plus, I can't believe how Karan easily believed Naroo 😂 SO I'M SAYING THAT KARAN IS REALLY SHARP, so he definitely knows allllllll the truth 😊 also all the alibi's shown in the movie said against Maya so, Karan kept on saying that her alibi's are true. So even, he himself fell in love with her😅 and at the end was protecting him. So even without "Teacher's" help Karan would save her. And, the last look of Karan says it all 😊 Also, I can't understand why she couldn't tell the cops the truth??? Her husband was doing all illegal activities and she killed him by mistake. It was self-defense. I know he must move around in high circles. But still... and I don't know that actor's name but gosh! He was amazing too. That entire episode of him visiting Maya at home and then the tussle with Tara and his heinous dialogues... gosh! That was well 👍🏻✅ also he pimped out his own wife and also wanted the little daughter to join! Ew! Plus movie didn't exactly ever explore the nature of Ajit's and Maya's relationship. Like her past. What exactly made her run away??? I know he was pimp but still. Shouldn't she have reported him, instead of just running away. Somebody would have must help her. But okay.
karan wasn’t trying to protect her he just found her hot that’s it and tbh I felt the actress playing Tara was not good at all during the murder scene she looked so calm lmao. I don’t know why they didn’t explore Maya’s past because there was a LOT to explore
It's definitely an adaptation tho. An unofficial remake in a way as the perfect alibi is definitely borrowed from the book. Jeethu Joseph however adapted an made it so apt for an indian audience, making it a real emotional family drama that engaged the masses!
@@TriedRefusedProductionsnot the masses bro its quite different tbfair tho drishyam was very from jane jan i just watched it look like you don’t know how to review films😂😂😂
Drishyam 2 clearly proves that there is no rip off of the novel and the talent of jeethu Joseph. The only similarity. Having read the book way before watching the movie is only the premise of the lie and believing the lie... Every single detail before and after in drishyam Seems original as opposed to whatever this jaane man/Jan is ..
Superb review Anmol. I too loved the film due to its engaging screenplay, taut direction and solid performances by the 3 main leads. Jaideep and Vijay are so bloody good that it's hard to pick one over the other. Also tbh, I didn't really feel like I am watching another Drishyam despite having seen and loved both the Malayalam and Hindi versions more than once which itself is credit to what Sujoy brings in via his expertise in this genre.
Idk why everyone is surprised by Kareena's acting.....shes a very good actor But people judge her by some bad roles in her early career And if a good actor is giving bad performance some blame should be put on the director
Its good that the actors are getting great roles and platforms through these productions.. bt the fact that it is ridiculous to see that we DO NOT HAVE ORIGINAL CONTENT which are as challenging and Confident about our originality in stories and content. Am done with the lack of original content in Indian cinema
Came here immediately after watching this. Teacher was the star of the show. I enjoyed this movie. Reminds of drishyam but it holds it's own. Karan. /vijay Verma is showng a bit of srk in his performances he is a delight to watch. Kareena looks good acting is on point also.
Sujoy Ghosh did what he's best at. Jaane Jaan is the typical Sujoy Ghosh thriller. The tonality, colour grading, location, character building, camaraderie between the characters, it's a treat to watch. The trailer got me intrigued because it was captivating, cold, and the cast was a mismatch (as per typical Bollywood scenarios) and boy.. it has passed with flying colours. Jaideep Ahlawat through Naren shows us obsession of a man with mathematics and his next door neighbour. Even though obsessed with both, he is okay to let go coz his love for both, mathematics and his neighbour, is pure. The way Naren's character is written is beautiful. Naren is intelligent, good at what he knows/ does but Naren longs for love and sadly believes physical appearance determines your worth. Sad but most of us are Naren. The little details, him (Naren) bitterly complimenting Karan about his appearance and how they're of the same age yet Karan looks half his age, conveys the pain and alleged unworthiness Naren feels. Naren/ Jaideep Ahlawat is the star we always knew we deserved and we've finally gotten :) Kareena Kapoor is good. Her bond with her child seems at a very surface level but she has delivered with her performance. The anger and pain in her eyes while she's strangling her husband (Saurabh Sachdev) justifies why she's a good actor. The premise, direction, acting, background score, is apt and truly makes this film worth your time but it's the plot and dialogues that are the true star here. Edit could have been better but the rest of the good aspects overpower it. Having said that, we've often seen Indian adaptation of great thriller novels not justifying on screen so Jaane Jaan deserves the credit. Overall, a very crisp, engaging movie.
My one crib with this well made adaptation I have read and loved -- why such a literally dark film? I get it, Kalimpong is a misty hill town, but some scenes of light badly needed. Most of the time, scenes are in near darkness -- and my eyes felt the strain. To me so much of darkness comes off as gimmicky.
@@LS5565 The choice of colour grading and a dark, eerie atmosphere in a thriller movie can often play a crucial role in defining its tonality and enhancing the overall viewing experience. While I can understand how prolonged darkness on screen might strain your eyes, it's important to note that such techniques are often employed to immerse the audience in the tension and intrigue of the narrative. It can be seen as a deliberate artistic choice rather than a gimmick. Filmmakers often use lighting and colour grading to convey emotions and set the tone, and in a thriller, this can contribute significantly to the overall impact of the film.
Drishyam's climax seemed more satisfying because it is. Jaane Jaan doesn't give a clue about the Ajit's dead body. And if it can't be found then why there was a need for another murder? And let's say it was done so that Police doesn't keeps investigating the case (as in the case of Drishyam) then why the murder has to be in similar fashion? It was done just for the viewers. Absolute rubbish.
There was a need for another murder because the autopsy of Ajits body will indicate the time of murder. In order to create a perfect alibi for Maya (going to the cinema hall and kareoke with her daughter) : there has to be a murder of another person so that the timeline makes sense
@TriedRefusedProductions But the second question still remains to be answered. Why did the murder have to be in a similar fashion? It was just for the audience. So that we assume it's Ajit, and in the end, we would be like, 'oh so this is how he did it'. But if you think about it, Police found the body then deducted the heater rod thing, but if Naren killed him with, say, knife. How does it matter, when the original body is not found.
@@TriedRefusedProductions And how will they do the autopsy when the original body is never found. Even in the final chapter, 'The Reveal', it's not shown. Not even a clue is given.
I loved the movie-- the script, the performances and in the end credits find out that it is a Sujoy Ghosh movie.. I feel the man is back totally into his craft once again.. I did not enjoy his story in List stories but this one seems to be in his comfort zone.. ❤ in fact, now that you are drawing similarities between the 2 films has reminded me of the same context otherwise while watching the film I never once thought of Drishyam.. probably because of 2 reasons-- absence of a character like Teacher in the former and the eerie presence of Kalimpong which ultimately has a character of its own
Fun fact This film was 90% shot in Darjeeling, and not Kalimpong. Only a few scenes are from Kalimpong. Even the school is in Darjeeling and not Kalimpong.
To me its a relief Sujoy gets it right...the entire Bengali film industry revolves around crime thrillers and detective stories with byomkesh being the go to character. So a bong director getting it wrong (and he has screwed up in the past) is unpardonable.this time he hasn't ❤
doesn't matter. it is police harrasment plain and simple. She keeps saying "NO". And as we watched Amitabh in Pink "no mean no". Here the cop is forcing Kareena to go back to her prostitute days and sing. Not only Kareena sings but seems to enjoy it a lot. THIS IS NOT A CHARACTER of a suffering, vulnerable single mother. It is stupid imagination of Sujoy. So inconsistent!@@kuntalghosh1970
I think the only similarity betwn Drishyam & Janejaan is the dates shuffling & creating Alibis. But Janejaan plot & the background story is different. I like it.
I personally didn’t like Vijay Verma in this movie. His performance was subpar…and the number of times the writers have made him say “hot neighbor” is just 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Drishyam and Jaane Jaan explores different solutions to cover up a murder. I think that's the only resemblance. The performances in Jaane Jaan is good especially Jaideep. But when it comes to Drishyam, it actually excels in most of the areas especially in performances, emotions, twists and thrilling moments.
I loved this movie so much, man Jaideep Ahlawat has given such a stellar performance that i was waiting for him to come on screen. For him i will recommend this movie to everyone.
Shoutout to Kautuk Shrivastav who recommended keigo higashino on one of the episode... Devotion of Suspect X and Journey under the midnight sun... Both were simply fantastic....
Jammy, I am curious how Tiger 3 is going to put forward itself. Will it be following same pattern and template of Pathaan like whole movie celebrating return of big superstar with strong villain (Jim/Emraan) and lame spy plot with sudden but crowd-cheering cameo of the other one. And yrf saying look here we have 2 films in same year, celebrating King Khan with Bhaijaan's cameo and vice versa. Or will it be a continuation to spy universe and actually set plots for War 2 and Tiger vs Pathaan. Like an actual serious attempt to make a spy universe and not collection of random movies with a tag of universe on it. What's a your opinion on that? Would love to know brother. ❤️
All actors are absolutely amazing !!!, Jaideep’s Sir’s character’s look n’ feel is very close to Bob Biswas (Saswata Chatterjee) from Kahaani, Bob Biswas (Abhishek Bachhan), again by Sujoy & Annapurna Ghosh!, feels like this character is very close to Father & Daughter director duo!
I thought the movie was really good. Although one thing i really don't understand is why did they show Darjeeling as Kalingpong. Its Darjeeling. The Mount Hermon School is my school. I really did not understand that aspect of the movie.
the best i have watched after dhrishyam , Kareena ,Jaideep and all cast members have made this movie to be so good , worth the watch , happy to see that we are seeing good filim choises of the actors
As an audience who haven't read or seen the other adaptations of the source material, the fact that you mention Drishyam a parallel to this film is the worst spoiler one can provide. I remember after watching Kahaani I posted that it made me remember The Usual Suspects spoiled the fun for a lot of my friends. I can feel the same for myself now! +1 to this
The movie was just ok to me. The climax came out as very very contrived … a mistake I see almost every writer and director in Indian cinema making .. almost smug in presenting an ending that they pat themselves on their own backs trying to say see how smart I am … and 99% of most Indian audiences..the minute they are unable to follow the story say “what brilliant direction”… such lunacy.
What was the point of killing a begger and replacing it with Ajit if teacher wanted to go jail for murder. And what is the point of hiding Ajit’s body , ultimately he went to jail na protecting Maya, can anyone explain ?
As someone who generally agrees with most of your reviews and thoughts after movies, this is probably the first time I am not seeing eye to eye. Some of your comments say that you would have enjoyed if the climax presented Maya and Karan as folks who were playing mind games with Naren throughout, driving him to madness. But that would have been such a bummer. The fact that a person planned and sacrificed just to see his love interest and her family safe, so much so that he became willing to act as a mental patient. Every plotting of him, on the fly, turning all his weaknesses or secrets into a weapon against Kareena's defense (for eg: how he presented the story around on broken piece of wall for eavesdropping)..All these elements made it a far better thriller than what it would have been if Maya and Karan teamed up ultimately. That IMO would have been a very silly, childish climax.
Because, it’s besides the point. The whole plot was about switching the body, which is revealed in the end. If they showed how and where he disposed the body, there is no movie. Unless one’s seriously looking for ways to dispose a body, it shouldn’t matter.
@@arghyabiswas5078 for me it's brilliant that he switched the bodies and planted all the evidence for it to misdirect the case but still the question matters. It's like a magician showing you a trick by making something disappear but not bringing it back from somewhere else, it has the pledge and the turn but not the prestige. And that bothers me!
@@TheAniketsen I guess the director made a creative choice and left it to our imagination. Considering the Teacher was essentially a genius and the conviction with which he says “body kabhi nahi milegi” might be indicative of the fact that the body is disposed in a manner that it’d never be found. That said, I do understand how it might bother you or anyone who needs all their loose ends tied. But, hey! How did teacher and the homeless man get to the hotel room unnoticed? There’s no getting off this train!
@@TheAniketsen Also, the magic trick was to switch the body and not bring the same body back. With this analogy, it makes even more sense to not reveal how he disposed the original body.
I do not know why the police has made this silly mistake. They did not match the body's DNA with Tara. Maybe a sequel would come where the police would realise their mistake.
Hi Jammy. Actually many of the locations shot in the film like Mt. Hermon School, the Capitol Hall as the movie theatre, the Jalapahar branch of SBI bank are all shot in Darjeeling. 😉
While i agree with you on climax. But i can see why ghosh thought it would be perfect. His climax focuses much on "Devotion" while the novel has a much happier ending reuniting the main characters in prison. Jaideep's portrayal almost made me believe that they altered the story to make him some kind of Psychopath Serial Killer. Jeethu deserves respect for elevating his material in both his movies
@@Qrius1der nah I don't think so they checked his house to find coil heater. I may be wrong but they should check for additional evidence to make the case strong.
Why does in the end it shows : x = naren ( question mark ) They could have done with x = naren . They could have shown how maya manipulates naren to actually do all this, without him understanding this. Sequel can show how naren solves this and gets out of jail FOR revenge. Storry feels regular : he liked her enough to die for her, maya as sinister character would have been great.
Both drishyam and jaane jaan are good movies. Audiences get to enjoy 2x the mood, characters and performances. Why does it have to be one or the other?
I would've loved the movie but few months ago I saw Perfect Number(korean movie) from which this movie is inspired. Hence i couldn't watch without continuously remembering the korean version.
To appreciate the ending which am sure many people won't but I am a Higashino fan and I have read all of his available work. The devotion of suspect X wowed me 10 yrs back. But I would still say it's not his best work, the best novel is 'the journey under the midnight sun' where the dynamics between the leads are similar but way more expansive and a lot deeper. The charector played by Kareena Kapoor is brief as compared to yukiho in that novel which is expanded upon. The perfect diabolical social climber who is ruthless at heart but sweet on her mannerisms. The story extends over 20 yrs and ends heartbreakingly but what thrives and is chlling is the pragmatism of Yukiho. There is one Korean film on this subject called White night where the casting of Son ye Jin was on point. The book is so intriguing and filled with complexities of life and how people are manipulated by a sweet mannered woman all with the help of a man who has similar feelings for her and a detective who chases them for over 2 decades. It's too big to be made into a movie but I hope someone can make a webseries on the same. 0:02
Sourav Sajdev has a face which is mix of Nagarjuna + Javier Bardem + Ehan Bhat ...he too is rising slowly n steadily with his calculative acting skills !!!
Spoiler-free: I’ll put this this way. There’s a famous Hollywood movie from 1999 where the protagonist having multiple personality disorder was a major (and incredibly memorable) plot twist. Many other movies have also used MPD as a major plot device. The movies can be entirely different, but using MPD as a twist or big reveal will always make people think of that classic from 1999. That’s what happened here. Yes, that whole detail that is key to the mystery is glaring obvious to anyone that has seen Drishyam (which is going to be 99% of the people that see this), but they are still both great movies with otherwise unique plots and execution. Watching one doesn’t ruin enjoyment of the other in my opinion.
Went in to see Kareena's movie, and came out as a Jaideep's fan. He ruled the screen more than his co actors. Hats off.❤
I have a question.
At the end of the movie, you’re completely convinced that jaideep is the main lead in the story. And Kareena and Vijay are merely supporting characters.
For Kareena ??😂😂😂

SPOILER ALERT-
I liked the movie.
I have a question. Where was the actual body hidden then ??

The climax was quite disappointing and I felt like a good build-up just fell apart. But without a doubt Jaideep's portrayal of Naren was outstanding!
Kareena in talaash ❤
I think Kareena is one actress where people just ASSUME is a bad actress because she is nepo.... She is a good actress if not a great one
@@thesarasohrabi TRUE. She is understated and effortless in later years. But her dialogue delivery is monotonous.
Also Fun Fact Abbas Mastan's Ajnabee is based on Death on Nile by Agatha Christie
Love "The Body in the Library"! Read it in high school and got chills reading the details of how the crime was pulled off.
This is exactly what I was expecting the actual reveal to be!!!

💯 agree !
SPOILER WARNING for Drishyam 1&2 + Jaane Jaan
The big similarity is in how the alibi is constructed.

Exactly all i wanted to say
Remember the scene where the principal reprimanded Naren for making the tests too difficult. That's Naren's flaw: he gets joy out of making problems overly complicated.
So he created this plan to kill a second person, because he's so in love with Maya/Soniya that he wants to prove to her how smart and amazing he is.
@@AndhraAdapaduchu775 well, Naren was bordering on creepy, he was never right in the head. I mean, listening through the wall, staring at her all day... I dont think his initial plan was to confess. He came up with that part when Police started suspecting she had an accomplice.
I just can’t get over the fact that how good looking Vijay is.
He was sooo cute in this movie it’s insane
Everyone knew that Drishyam was inspired by the Malayalam Drishyam and the Devotion of Suspect X, which was inspired by Suspect X, the book. I am not sure how it is a mystery...
People lauded Jeethu Joseph for indianizing the whole thing so much so that it was remade in different languages with different actors. Drishyam 2 is completely different in this regard and deserves appreciation for being an original through and through.
Yes but drishyam was also quite different and not necessarily super commercialosed like people are saying
Come on
The actors were indeed phenomenal but the direction felt pretty weak in this one.
Just one question, where and how did they dispose the dead body of original culprit?
Same...they should have at least given a hint at the last moment shots
Just watched it and this question is not letting me enjoy the film 😢
I preferred the climax of Drishyam too. JJ's climax left me feeling down actually, though they tried to convince us otherwise.
To give her a solid aliby, he made sure it was at least 24 hours
2) as long as there is no body, the police will always suspect be hovering in the area. its better to get it over with.
I am not understanding what is the similarity between jaane jaan and drishyam
Ok so i haven't watched drishyam yet.. and enjoyed this movie a lot .. now gonna watch drishyam too.
@@neharawat8781 have you watched and did you find a similarity in those two movies?
Yes, the accent sounded more Marathi than Nepali 😬🫢
She was quite average honestly dunno why everyone’s praising her
I read the 'Devotion of Suspect X' in 2019 and found the book very impactfull and jaw-dropping when the climax is revealed.
Jaideep ahlawat. Man what a performance
The movie is great but I think the song jaane ja was absolutely magical and suited the movie so much. Especially to Kareena's character
SPOLIER **
The maths problem for Jaideep's character was to save Maya & her daughter and also himself from going to jail.
Sadly he could only solve half! 😂 Ajay in Drishyam though not clever in maths solved the whole problem - nor he or his family were convicted! 😂
I actually didn't understand why he had to do all the confession drama. Police already knew his unknown whereabouts on 10th and his likeness for maya, enough to investigate him, jail him for sometime maybe but still there would be no proof/confession. I thought after his confession acting, police would have found out body is of another person & then let him free stating that he is mentally unstable and making stories 😅
Jaideep was on fire. Only disappointed at the end, kareena & her daughter didn't look grateful enough for Jaideep taking the blame, too rushed. It made me think if maya is the actual mastermind afterall 😂😂
the police needed a culprit, otherwise they will be forever after Maya
I guess Jaydeep role was best considering he has more to do with the role he was given. Each actor did their part well. But I was hoping for more darker thrill n story. Also I was looking for more dark character from Kareena but whatever was given they did their best and location music everything was good. It's just the story which was not the best thriller but a ok one considering we have seen so much in this genre.
Jaideep's performance made me so uncomfortable like gosh! The last gruesome act of killing a stranger... 😰 This made me realise what a terrific and stellar performer he is! 👏🏻 Also whenever he looked at Kareena I couldn't help but feel his look creepy and he was always sort of stalking her😅
Also, Kareena and Vijay also rocked.
Tara was sooo irritating always "Mumma, mumma, mumma" 😂😅 but that's why I have to appreciate the child actor. She did a good job!
But but now,
I felt that the movie lacked something.... and no I'm not only pointing towards the end 😂 but rather other points... I understand the makers creative choice, decision and outlook but to me it lacked something (I can't particularly pinpoint what). It started out good but rushed the end. Plus, I can't believe how Karan easily believed Naroo 😂
SO I'M SAYING THAT KARAN IS REALLY SHARP, so he definitely knows allllllll the truth 😊 also all the alibi's shown in the movie said against Maya so, Karan kept on saying that her alibi's are true. So even, he himself fell in love with her😅 and at the end was protecting him. So even without "Teacher's" help Karan would save her. And, the last look of Karan says it all 😊
Also, I can't understand why she couldn't tell the cops the truth??? But okay.
Saurabh Sachdeva played Ajit
karan wasn’t trying to protect her he just found her hot that’s it and tbh I felt the actress playing Tara was not good at all during the murder scene she looked so calm lmao. I don’t know why they didn’t explore Maya’s past because there was a LOT to explore

Shah Rukh from Darr or Male Shakuntala Devi had me chuckle. Kudos to Jaideep for pulling off a complex role, so easily.
I had read the book when Drishyam(malayalam) released, and in my opinion, it was more of an inspiration than of a rip off/adaptation of the novel
It's definitely an adaptation tho. An unofficial remake in a way as the perfect alibi is definitely borrowed from the book. Jeethu Joseph however adapted an made it so apt for an indian audience, making it a real emotional family drama that engaged the masses!

There is a Tamil movie ‘Kolaigaran’ released in 2019 which was adapted from ‘The perfect number’ - the movie version of ‘The devotion of suspect x’.
Found it strictly average and never felt the thrill of Drishyams
Superb review Anmol. I too loved the film due to its engaging screenplay, taut direction and solid performances by the 3 main leads. Jaideep and Vijay are so bloody good that it's hard to pick one over the other. Also tbh, I didn't really feel like I am watching another Drishyam despite having seen and loved both the Malayalam and Hindi versions more than once which itself is credit to what Sujoy brings in via his expertise in this genre.
Idk why everyone is surprised by Kareena's acting.....shes a very good actor
But people judge her by some bad roles in her early career
And if a good actor is giving bad performance some blame should be put on the director
True even in worst films shes been praised be it kurbaan , LSC, good news, heroine even ki n ka . Shes always the best
Its good that the actors are getting great roles and platforms through these productions.. bt the fact that it is ridiculous to see that we DO NOT HAVE ORIGINAL CONTENT which are as challenging and Confident about our originality in stories and content.
Am done with the lack of original content in Indian cinema
There are some really good books can be adapted from indian authors but they aren't trying to
Came here immediately after watching this. Teacher was the star of the show. I enjoyed this movie.
Reminds of drishyam but it holds it's own. Karan. /vijay Verma is showng a bit of srk in his performances he is a delight to watch. Kareena
looks good acting is on point also.
Naren/ Jaideep Ahlawat is the star we always knew we deserved and we've finally gotten :)
Kareena Kapoor is good.
@@LS5565
The choice of colour grading and a dark, eerie atmosphere in a thriller movie can often play a crucial role in defining its tonality and enhancing the overall viewing experience.
❤ in fact, now that you are drawing similarities between the 2 films has reminded me of the same context otherwise while watching the film I never once thought of Drishyam.. probably because of 2 reasons-- absence of a character like Teacher in the former and the eerie presence of Kalimpong which ultimately has a character of its own
Fun fact
This film was 90% shot in Darjeeling, and not Kalimpong. Only a few scenes are from Kalimpong. Even the school is in Darjeeling and not Kalimpong.
The thumbnail and the Intro are (chef’s kiss) as always.
To me its a relief Sujoy gets it right...the entire Bengali film industry revolves around crime thrillers and detective stories with byomkesh being the go to character. So a bong director getting it wrong (and he has screwed up in the past) is unpardonable.this time he hasn't ❤
Sujoy messed up jaane jaan big time. Kareena singing jaane jaan...wtf...I watched chinese version of suspect x and that one is superior in every way
@@av1421 so the basic of 'messing up' is a character singing a song or rather a stanza?
doesn't matter. it is police harrasment plain and simple. She keeps saying "NO". And as we watched Amitabh in Pink "no mean no". I think the only similarity betwn Drishyam & Janejaan is the dates shuffling & creating Alibis. But Janejaan plot & the background story is different. I like it.
I personally didn’t like Vijay Verma in this movie. His performance was subpar…and the number of times the writers have made him say “hot neighbor” is just 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
That was way over the top weird 😂 like you got your point across he’s attracted to her even without him explicitly saying it was pretty clear

The climax is completely different in both the movies so your safe
The movie was just ok to me. The climax came out as very very contrived … a mistake I see almost every writer and director in Indian cinema making .. almost smug in presenting an ending that they pat themselves on their own backs trying to say see how smart I am … and 99% of most Indian audiences..the minute they are unable to follow the story say “what brilliant direction”… such lunacy.
Agreed
What was the point of killing a begger and replacing it with Ajit if teacher wanted to go jail for murder. And what is the point of hiding Ajit’s body , ultimately he went to jail na protecting Maya, can anyone explain ?
It is to change the date of the death which will be inferred from the post Mortem🤦🏻♂️
Real star of the movie is Jaideep Ahlawat..specially the last scene.. like suddenly he turns in violent screaming character
Also, Jaane Jaan had only negligible similarities with Drishyam.
The question I still have is what did he do with the actual dead body and why didn't they reveal that to the audience
Yeah it was decent movie but can't be compared to Drishyam.

While i agree with you on climax. But i can see why ghosh thought it would be perfect. 0:02

Name the 1999 film.
