That's what I've been doing so, that i can sperate myself from the other writes I've already writen the entire plot line and table of contents for seven books about 400 - 500 each and just have to work out the little details. I've actually wrote the first book's draft all the way through and now just increasing its volcabuary and placing extra details where needed.
Thanks for you reply it's good to here from another aspring writer.
I started reading this Cycle in 6th grade, and i fell in love. Before inheritance came out, I read all the previous books 3 times. In my opinion, Christopher is the greatest author alive.
How come Eragon the movie doesn't come out anymore......I freaking watched it 27 times^^ I was the best movie in the universe! And Christopher Paolini is my favorite all these years!!! I read all his books^^ Eragon is awsome! And Paolini, u rock!~ Please make more dragon books^^ Fan forever!!!!^^
I finished the book in 2 days! It was really cool! I never thought something so amazing could be brought into existence...paolini is truly a prodigy
In my opinion , all the 3 book I have read are exciting ! I read all of them in a couple of days just because I was '' stucked '' with them ! Excellent story , characters , language and mysterious things ! I am really fond of his books ! That's impressive enough for his age !! Definitely out of the ordinary !! Christopher keep on ! I cant wait for the 4th book =)
I just finished the series and can't wait for book V yes he's actually making a book V look it up
Brisingr is an amazing book!
Personally i admire anyone who has the patients and guts to write a novel and we should enjoy reading all novels.
He is simply the best!
I love Brisingr! I've read it 5 times all ready! I really love these books and I can't wait for the fourth book :D
you can tell he is an author cuz everything he says is so smooth and
I can't wait for the last book!
Outline can be kinda of hard it wasn't until two months ago did I completely see the potential of my hard work. I started off with a simply and straight forward idea that subconsciously in the back of my head grew into a massive storyline with many plots, twist, and realistic dialogue. To outline a story, you need to at least have some idea of how you want to begin and end your story(s). Along with major events that will happen in between them. But, I don'tt know if I'm the best to explain it.
ok u no what: i LOVE this series, and i think its original. fine argue wuth me, but i think all u haters shouldnt be commenting here. CP is a GREAT writer and if u guys are all authors were are ur books on the top 100? yes, harshness, but dony any of u have imagination? harry potter spells are from latin and acient greek, yet none of u filp out about that. he inspired me to write a book one day, and ideas from other books makes a masterpiece
The chapters aren't uneventful, even though it may seem like they do at first, they all contribute to the end result. I've read all 3 books and enjoyed them immensely, although I was kind of disappointed by the ending of Brisingr, I thought it should have been more exciting. But keep reading and I'm sure you'll understand the book. At least the boring chapters make it seem a lot more like real-life, instead of everything being fast moving. I like the way it seems so realistic.
I find him very attractive :) A man who lives in a world away from this one by the power of storytelling, who brings magic into our own world.
is the inheritance series good? i have the eragon eldest and brisingr
Wait, auto correct messed me up :P anyway, he isn't plagiarizing, he's using an ARCHETYPE. this means that hes borrowing from a story that a lot of writers are borrowoing from, like Tolkien did, like star wars did, etc.
@KirabellaAnonymous a) it's not just LOTR b) just because he's not the only one doesn't make it okay.
Okay, okay, okay. I was reading some of the comments, and I just HAD to comment.
Everyone has their own opinions; true, I totally agree.
Personally, I loved all the books. They were great. Yeah, each chapter wasnt based on action. Is your life a constant battle? If it is, you have my sympathy.
How can I put this.... ah, let me see.
The books themselves, as I see it, are not about the battles or the war, itself. The books are about more than just about physical struggles, but also about
i don't understand the people who click on a video (for example this one, about the eragon cycle) and then say that this is wrong, this sucks blah blah
if u don't like the theme of the video then why are u looking at it in the first place?
@TheMavonduriTrilogy I wasn't saying all fantasy books have elves or dwarves. It's just a general fact about fantasy stories. If you look at the majority of the stories they involve at least one of those races. You aren't copying another author by using the same/similar races.
man, I love this series. It is in the top favorites, which is a hard place to get. That was a horrible place to leave off on, they are all standing under a gilaten?! th is a really mean cliff hanger. the end of Brisngr was tantalizing enough. I always thought it would be really hard to write a book as good as Eragon.
the emotional and mental struggles one goes through. Paolini expresses the thoughts and feelings that one has when in war. You might view it as stupid, but do you honestly think its easy to kill a person? To live with the thought of taking away another life? Eragon goes through a lot of issues. Like the bit with Sloan. Those few chapters, &the way Eragon dealt with the situation all reveal bits of Eragon's character. Who knows, maybe these are all clues to his true name. Either way, those
He comes off as such a nice guy.
I have met him, and he's 10 times more nerdier in person. He's one of the kids that was playing Dungons and Dragons or those Magic cards in the back of your homeroom class in high school.
Yes, I agree. I don't see where people get off saying that Paolini is a terrible writer! Okay, yes there are so recycled ideas that he has used from other people, but writing something that is totally original is extremely hard! Trust me, I've been trying for three years, and yes, writing a book is the most tedious job in the world if you want to write something worth reading! I've been editing for the past two years!
No! It's very good to read!
Why are you watching this video if you're not a fan...?
im in grade 11 and i am a huge fan of the series as is 80% of my school XD love it so much i decided to do my summative isu on the cycle so far... and apparently my teacher loves it too lmaoXD
Why is everyone saying that the fans are mostly really young girls [under 11!]? Which normal 11 year old girl is reading a book over 700 pages long ? I know I didn't. XD
Well, I really like those books [I'm 17] and my sister loves them too [she's 25].
I'm not saying it's not similar to lotr, but only to a certain point. He made up a lot and you're all saying it as if he's copied 75% of the book.
He's a good writer and deserves respect.
I agree, and I'm a fan of the books. Well, I don't completely agree, but I know what you mean. There are no 'epic battles' or whatever. There's a not-so-special fight, and a small amount of romance. The books need more meat, hopefully a bit more excitement. But not to make it too unrealisitic.
@Lumophage Agreed, most fantasy stories use those kinds of characters, but as Paolini wrote them his elves and dwarves are very similar to Tolkienian elves and dwarves. If you're going to use those characters you've got to do something fresh with them.
guys don't fight, I love fantasy story, I am writing them too, and I think both HP and Eragon is amazing. LotR became one of the basis of fantasy story (elf and dwarf) are the magical race that you will see in almost every single fantasy story. But like eragon, christopher also being original (dragon rider, urgal, ra'zac, even the elf is vegetarian lol) so don' be hating. HP is great too, but for everybody that think it's original, go check a famous book called the books of magic" by neil gaiman
@azerskater that is a matter of opinion but i understand where you are coming from, thank you
Lumophage:
Obviously you haven't heard of the Mavonduri Trilogy yet haha..for everyone who's tired of Eragon, I'm promoting my upcoming debut novel MATHION: BOOK ONE OF THE MAVONDURI TRILOGY. Since "Inheritance" is winding down, I'm hoping that all of you will check out the teaser for MATHION, and stay tuned for more news, vlogs and video interviews leading up to the release!
big contest... i personally like the inheritance cycle better having read all three of these series that you've mentioned
I'm not a fan of the Inheritance Cycle and Paolini (though he's basically a nice guy), however he actually says "all the good stuff a book needs" 1:11
What he meant by epic journeys and romance I know not ;)
I'm currently writing a book and I firgured it wouldn't be too bad to final start reading some books. You know to see the material that mine would be competing with. I'm currently reading book one of Eragon its the first fictional book that I've preceded to open and read. But, I got on question. Do all writers have these uneventful chapters. Don't get me wrong its obviuos he has talent or his book wouldn't be doing so, well. I personal would have like more action mixed into the story.
@allwhitestar Hahah. Sure you can skip over his descriptions. In my school we have this thing called Accelerated Reader where you like take tests to get points on the book. I read the last 200 pages of Brisingr in like 1 hour and a half and still got a 95% on the AR test.
Agreed, I liked the first one though
y are people comparing THIS to HP?? I personally LOVE HP, and im a huge fan - but does that mean i cant be one of Eragon? cmon sometimes u ppl write without even thinking!! christophor paolini has class and his books are totally awesome, and anyone who denies that needn't bother commenting. but even JKR soooooo has class and rocks! its stupid to compare the 2 series, im just sayn ...
@Lumophage it's also a known fact that Paolini retroactively engineered the history of Alagaësia after his fans demanded it. That's another problem I have with his stories. If you're going to create a fantasy world, you should write the history first, so the characters have something to draw from. It's also a well known fact that Paolini uses a LOT of Quenya and Sindarin words in his ancient and dwarves languages, not to mention Old Icelandic. It's just not fresh enough. It's a good story, but
@42Nightsyesterday So? That doesn't mean it can't be good, it doesn't follow the storyline exactly the same, just the setup. Avatar is exactly the same setup as Pocahontas but it's still good.
not really no. With a good plot and original ideas you can write a book that can outsell Eragon, Eldest or Brisingr. That's wht I'm planning on doing, because it sure isn't hard.
LOL, I simply said what I think about the video.
Doesn't have anything to do with you, does it, or do you happen to be Chris Paolini by any chance?
So, yeah, you just got involved.
Thanks very much.
'boring' chapters show depth. Another topic I'd like to adress is the one concerning the fact that his works are not original. Some people were saying that his usage or (correct me if I'm wrong) the Norse language in creating the Ancient Language was unoriginal. How? He took something from the real world and turned it into something magical. There will always be similarites between books because lets face it; we're all humans. As much as we'd all like to think that we're 'unigue' and 'different'
Hey christopher if you making a fourth book why cant you let them make a second movie?
@azerskater you need to look deeper. eragon= aragorn and his elf girl friend who happens to be royalty ariel=arwen. and its even more like star wars. kid get an object from a princess and joins a fallen order and is taught by an old master who is killed and ends up leading a resistance. and also at the battle of the burning plains when eragon sees a ship arriving and thinks its an enemy ship but turns out to be unexpected help, doesn't that sound like the battle of pellenor fields.
though i see what you mean, i feel it had just enough between eragon and arya. maybe it was the "intimacy" between their true names.
@Lumophage how did he at all defy cliches. give me an example.
@lilbluehersheykiss Take the dragons. In most fantasy literature they're bloodthirsty beings who hate (or strongly dislike) humans or anything like them. In The Inheritance series the elves formed an alliance with dragons.
And I am not forgetting the part where he talks about how they warring with each other.
home schooled people are so much smarter than other people who've gone to a public school.
@MathiasDSmith Read Eragon. You'll be hooked.
So...what's your book about...?
@Lumophage i spent more than one hour if you think about how long it took me to read and reread parts of all 3 doortstops of books, which amounts to like over 2000 pages, go on various eragon websites, including fansites like shurt'ugal, and then film and edit my video.
im reading it
Even though I live in Northern Europe, I can still order Inheritance from America. That makes me feel great. >.<
he took alot of stuff from the nordic countries, for example the languages in his books and things. Which i think is kinda cool.(he say so) Write more than 4 books! //Sweden
Indeed, I just hope hes prquel will be good.
He's sort of a fantasy nerd in a way, but a good way, and he seems pretty nice.
His stories need a better transition throughout the book.
@SWCeagles2007 all true except for one thing. eragon isn't like aragorn. eragon is dragon but with an "e".
really? what r they called?
@lilbluehersheykiss Okay first of all, my judgement of his character IS my opinion. I wasn't claiming that it was proof. And I have/will admit it isn't the most unique book out there, but it is very good. I think he did a rather good job with all the cliches.
Ofcourse hes a regular person, the only different thing about him is that he has a talent to write books...if someone has a talent it doesnt mean they stand out of other people with their characteristics. I dont really like the fact that hes personality on TV is different to hes real one...but apart from that I LOVE THE ERAGON SERIES :)
"Exciting battles and epic journies, romance."
Dang, that sentance had some emphasis. o.o
we are all human. (and, if we are all unique, doesn't that make us all the same?)
we all have similar ideas. As much as we'd like to think every single idea we have is never before thought by someone else, that's not true.
What Paolini has created is a wonderful world. Its not perfect because its realistic. His style is unique, and his character's dialogue shows wisness.
But hey, I'm only fifteen and I want to be a writer, so maybe I'm only blinded by admiriaton. (:
@lilbluehersheykiss It gives you a much stronger argument, and I for one am more likely to see your side a lot better. It just sounds like you spend maybe 1 hour or so researching it.
@SWCeagles2007 yeah he does seem that type doesnt he? I think that's cute for some reason >w< and ya he did say that, but i also remember him saying that as he developed eragon's character more he started to become his own character and that he only started out as basing it off of himself. But hey you never know :3
I think he's fairly talented for his age. Okay, yes the books definitely could be better, but his writing style is alright. I'm not defending everything he does, I just don't think he should be called a bad writer.
@TheKingdomeOfOldKing so he couldn't even come up with a word for fire. and you are obviously confused with danish folklore. and even if you were right, the elves in tolkiens works were much more like humans than spirits like in norse mythology. and tolkien was the one who had them live in forests and shoot bows.
what do you mean woods in the book?
Okay, I don't wanna fight, but would it be okay if I explain what I meant?
He was talking about his own book, listed a few things and then said those are "all the things a good book need".
To me, that's basically saying "my book is good", and since I think that his books are immature and boring (no offense to the readers, to each his own, aiight?), I think he made a completely nitwitty statement.
Okay? That's just my opinion, I hope you can live with that.
WHAT?! how did you get that info? and WHY? so many time... :(
@allwhitestar well, yeah I know there are dragons, like Smaug and stuff, but still it's not based around dragons. If he admitted that he did plagarize, which can't even be confirmed at all right now, then he would most likely have to pay an extremely large fine. I do like the books, but they tend to drag on, you know? Like...all the description.
@Lumophage There is nothing really to doubt about it. It's a fact that he copied some of the best works of fantasy and has very little original content in his books.
People do not say Eragon is a copycat because of elves, dwarfs and orcs (I mean Urgals). It's because they are almost identical to how they are described in LotR, with tiny differences.
I can also say that the sky is not the kind of thing that has a sun in it, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a sun.
@allwhitestar Hopfully the end of the series will be better
you know i find it funny that people don't realize that many books have references to other stories
wow, i wish that was the same with me, unfortunatly im the only one who bloody knows about it, but im ubsessed with it now! finished Brisingr months ago and waitng 4 the 4th book, and i have my own theories for it, like Solembum's prophesy about the rock of Kuthian, which could be the broms tomb and kuthian being his real name...
Did the lady pronounce Brisingr wrong? O_o
I wonder if he has a girlfriend/wife?
@dragongame2 That isn't necessarily a good thing.
Whens the next book coming out?
Every fantasy tale that was written after The Fellowship of the Ring was first published has been influenced in some way by The Lord of the Rings because it is the Father of Fantasy.
@MathiasDSmith read it and find out. Best books I ever read.
Lol sounded a little misleading at the beginning of the interview, it almost sounded as if Eragon in the book had romance with his Dragon.
um, in regards to Dwarfs, Elves, and Humans, it is kinda general fantasy stuff from what I understand. Elves value knowledge and the forest, dwarfs value minerals (earth dwellers) and humans value advancement and domination. In every series that I have read involving these races there has been bloody conflict between the races.
making a book with a decent plot and original ideas is harder than it seems. even though eragon, eldest and brisingr didn't sell that great, they are a read by a selective group of people.
I still have to buy it :-(
Same but I didn't like the ending of Inheritance
I got it at midnight. = )
@TheKingdomeOfOldKing well no not really. elves from norse mythology had wings and were essentially faries. and tolkien didn't blatantly rip off other works and in such a poor manner.
Damn I read the first book when I was about 11 in my "dragon phase". I couldn't believe how other books geared at my age at that time was so damn childish for me. Lately it's been difficult for me to grab ahold of a book that is good and doesn't underestimate the reader.
@DrStrangebomb1993 how?
@Lumophage Like the series of A Song Of Ice And Fire that's a way better fantasy but has none of those things?
Yeah, I know *evil laughter among shadows*
Is it just me or does he get off to Saphira?"The 'Beautiful' Blue Dragon". That was unneccessary...
Though I like the books.
@TheKingdomeOfOldKing Oh my god how did you find my comment? I had to look way the hell back there to find what I said it was like a goddamn year ago. And obviously you didn't look at ANY of my other comments because I explained that what I meant was that lord of the rings is not based around dragons. I've read the hobbit, fellowship of the ring, two towers, and the return of the king. And you know what lol, the movies are pretty damn close to the books. Hence the movies being three hours long.
@dilamister yeah but its not a copy.
and in lotr, he is a hobbit, and really doesnt fight. He has adventures, but not really in to the politics like eragon.
should happen is the author's voice should be good enough to make us forget him and just live the story. I find some of the dialogue to be a little stiff and the characters, at least in this book, don't know about the others, aren't very convincing.
