What are your thoughts on science's role in warfare? Do you think there will come a time where "we will all get along", and if so what would it take to bring the World together in that way?
I believe AI has the ability to either give us means via resource abundance to break the chain in the history of war or it will cause our final war. Nothing in between.
Great video. It's a hard truth, but conflict is the ultimate accelerator of innovation. So many things we take for granted came directly from the need to win wars. Computers were born from code-breaking, GPS from military navigation, and even microwaves from radar tech. Necessity isn't just the mother of invention; war is its crucible. Science, fueled by the urgency of defense, has given us the tools that shape our modern world.
I think it'd take resource stability and the end of religion. Most wars seem to occur due to one or the other. Can we reach a point where that's possible? I don't know. We're very greedy and are obsessed with being "special" and how we perceive the "afterlife". Our storytelling and language can be equally destructive in how it forms our thinking. An enjoyable video.💜
If it was a war of conquest and subjugation, lets say for exmaple: you're a Tibetan farmer and the Chinese government decides it will take evrything that is yours and your neighbours stuff and everyone you know will now face and submit to those lwas. You'd let your destiny depend on a 1v1?
@grantthroneberry1833 Might doesn't make right no matter how many times it has been tried in history. Might can make you famous (or infamous as you will) but Genghis Khan, Alexander of Macedon, the Roman Empire and so on are not considered RIGHT by any level of accurate reading of history. They used and abused both their people and those around them. They didn't make good choices for their countries in most cases and their wars eventually backfired. Mongolia doesn't own Asia, neither does Macedonia. Italy doesn't own Europe. Eventually, their "might makes right" philosophy failed. Turns out people don't like being subjugated. A much better throughline in history is that people who live in an area might be conquered but they will gain their freedom eventually. Rome's enemies outlasted them in terms of the people who fought against them eventually became free again (sometimes under a new name). Persia was conquered by Alexander but Iran is its own country today. China was conquered by Genghis Khan and today's China is once again independent. Also, all of those empires fell in 1-4 centuries. This is something today's empires should be aware of. Empires have best before dates. Not one has survived history.
That's the paradox of our species. We have mastered the laws of physics and engineering far more effectively than we have mastered the ability to coexist.
If you ask me...from an outside perspective? Earth, Humans - unable to unite as money has put evil people in positions of power and are in fact locked in a perpetual species wide civil war.
Something I found interesting about this quote is how it doesn’t give a resolution. It didn’t say study history so it isn’t repeated. It said study history and be condemned to watch it repeat.
@storm1328 i mean it’s a singular quote..I’m sure this person followed up at some point in their life lol. But the implication is everyone should study their history but obviously everyone won’t for all sorts of reasons
This quote is almost as old as history it self and every single person knows this. They even tell you this at school. As a matter of fact I disagree with it. No matter if you know or don't know. Human history always have been repeating since we can walk. If you look at history the only one thing you can learn is that we do not learn form our mistakes and do them over and over again. If you are smart you study history and use it to prepare yourself for what is coming. Because it is coming. I know it and you also knows it. No matter how hard we fight against it, everything our elite billionaires will do is bring us to the next world war and many will die. Looking at the history of wars casualties will be enormous and it will be probably done in a split second. History teached us to me more effective and efficient in killing large amounts of people.
My father was a World War II veteran, bronze, star, purple heart, all that stuff - lost almost all of his regiment but he survived.. He is no longer with us but I always remember one thing in particular he said. "If you saw what I saw, you wouldn't have a parade".
Yeah my grandpa was a child during ww2. He would have been so disappointed with what’s happening now. He passed in 2019. He had some pretty awful opinions on some things, but he lived through the horrors of war. After the war was over he was stationed in Germany, he told all of us to never join the military. It’s not worth it for how the government treats you.
That is because of where you live, in the nation that is the worlds greatest superpower, in freedom. There are a great many people who were freed from evil governments that think otherwise and all you have to do is go listen to ANYONE that managed to get out of North Korea, Cuba, Iran, Venezuela, The U.S.S.R or any of the many other nations that were under a true (not made up in your head) dictator.
War unfortunately brings great advancement to medical and technology fields. The US made GPS in the Gulf War purely to navigate a desert. Now its in every smart phone. Its advancement in killing each other on our beliefs or needs that strive us to achieve them for the goal. You can look at starlink now too as a morden example.
Why can’t we have a leader like this ? Someone who’s rational and honest about what they want to happen and what they want to achieve. Thank you Neil 🎉.
I have a wakeup call for you. Unfortunally science always did make the fastest developments during war. Because what they always say is actually true. And that saying is as follows: "Necessity is the mother of inventions".
@Zenithx3Chuck might not be your cup of tea but he’s certainly not an idiot. He’s learned a lot from Neil and has started to piece certain things together himself.
@Tha_Professah_0 I totally got what he was inferring, but you didn't get me. Animals are far worse than we are, like a territorial lion or bear could obliterate others for their own sake. Now if they had the ability to access superior weapons to do so, they could use it. And that's what humans have. Animals are worse.
@kisumufilms1495 Not really a logical way to look at it, they don't have our intelligence to use their higher selves. They operate out of instincts. It's false to assume they would be worse than us if they had the intelligence to build what we can as that would give them the same brain capacity for morality as well.
I'm retired military. I personally believe that your average citizen will get along with almost all other average citizens. It's when you have groups with ideals that include no tolerance for other groups' ideals that we get conflict. I have the philosophy that every person I meet is a friend until they prove otherwise.
what if they are unfriendly becuse they are misguided or given the false narrative or have a bad day or trauma and should be understood instead of misunderstood , for me if someone is aggressive I try to understand his point some people dont want to be friendly even when you try to understand them and there were i just walk away aslong as they dont hurt me
I agree with you and we should all seek to be a friend until proven otherwise, your comments about group ideals vs personal are spot on in my experience.
Not in case of iran All their leader like the son of khomeni who is now the leader of iran fought the war against iraq vs Saddam Hussein when he invaded iran .
I believe humans will be long gone. I am simply hopeful that animals will thrive and species on the brink will come back. Imagine how loud the birds will be.
@emiiiiyou must have missed the part where nuclear winter was described in the early 80s… you’re literally living in the safest era in human history, you just pay attention to the media more then you use to
My 14 year old son heard me listening to this video and he goes "are u listening to Neil?" How awesome is that!! Didn't even know he was aware who Neil is!
But all the occultists, oligarchs, rich elite, 1% (whatever you want to call it) of America, constantly train us to hate each other and not team up and convince us we have no power. All done through social media, mass marketing, and subtle propaganda across the board. We’re designed to be oppressed and to not critically think.. we save critical thinking for school then after we get a degree and the easier job with higher pay we go back to complacency and looking out for only ourselves. Welcome to Amerikkka.
human adversarial encounter is not a mothern problem. we have battled each other for dominance, territory, mates since the invention of fire. A secondary issue is religious extremism, they dont care about getting along.
@carlosrodriguez-qw7ik In my totally non-professional estimate, 2 of the top 3 reasons we've ever gone to war absolutely dwarf the religious reason. Most often we've invaded eachother's territories just to get the additional resources (the economic reason), and secondly we've fought over racial/ethnic differences. I think religious wars come in third at best.
Honestly, I personally think that THE ONLY road that leads to the Survival of the Human Species, long-term, is the one called _The Sword of Damocles._ In other words, we need to establish ONLY ONE *genuinely Good Guy nation* in charge of *ALL* of the BIG & BAD weapons, at the exclusion of all other countries. Is it a great situation to finally settle upon? No. However, it is probably THE ONLY SITUATION that guarantees long-term survival of the entire Human Race.
"We" can't learn to collaborate, that would only work in a perfect society. there are 8 billion people on earth, even if only 0,000001% is violent there will be fights and wars.
But that's every animal....it is in our nature to take more than we need selfishly to propogate our specific gene code Why do people protect their family members more than random people, kin selection
If you don't believe WARNING do not do it - it's dangerous - YOU WILL GET POSSED AND YOU MIGHT ACTUALLY DIE !!!!! I WARNED YOU - IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME - Call Exorcist in Vatican - See what happens - Do not blame me for side affect because I WARNED YOU - SERIOUSLY
It should be mandated if the president decides to start a war with another country they then have to send their own children to war. Maybe that’ll make them think twice before sending other people’s children to war. It’s no big deal to the president when he looks at it his numbers. I wish everyone would just stop working and fighting for the rich man just to see what they do.
@cortneyreed5622 what’s crazy is back in medieval times it was an honor as a king to fight in a war alongside your soldiers even their heir would fight. It was a way to show power and gain the peoples respect. Imagine today’s leaders doing that.
I mean...based on what though?? Humans are the only such species as far as is known, & we've been able to destroy ourselves for nearly 70 years now, & I don't see much evolving occurring. Your comment is a snappy line to be sure, but is it accurate?
"But does Man have any 'right' to spread through the universe? Man is what he is, a wild animal with the will to survive, and (so far) the ability, against all competition. Unless one accepts that, anything one says about morals, war, politics, you name it, is nonsense. Correct morals arise from knowing what man is, not what do-gooders and well-meaning old Aunt Nellies would like him to be. The Universe will let us know - later - whether or not Man has any "right" to expand through it." - Robert A. Heinlein, Starship Troopers. Although I am more on the side of democracy (the odds of a benevolent dictator, which is the best form of government rising up, is slim to none like you know 000.1% and Trump is the very antithesis of a benevolent dictator.) The fact is natural selection will determine our success as a species not whether we are peaceful or warlike but whether or not we are successful regardless of how it is done as is the case with all organisms and species.
Not only that, but think about what Regean said, if we saw an alien race visit earth we would immediately see them as a threat to unite us. If they are peaceful aliens and they heard that speech they would be like.."no thanks , I'm not looking to become their enemy"
I would like to suggest you to use auto translation feature at the time of uploading video on RUclips . So information will be available to non English speaking people as well
The irony is not lost on me that in shooting an arrow and killing the other, the other would let go of his arrow aimed at the first man's neck killing him too.
Same energy as people in the US insisting on having guns in their home or on their person for "protection". Like somehow having your own gun nearby will magically stop the bullet when someone else gets the jump on you and shoots you first, before you have a chance to react... which is more than likely how it would happen. It's not like someone breaking into your home would find you unarmed and say "oh, my bad, I'll let you go into your safe, grab your handgun, load it and aim it at me, then we can count to 3 and see who shoots first". And a mass shooter isn't exactly going to wait for all the nearby open-carrying good Samaritans to draw their weapons before gunning down dozens of people with an automatic weapon.
@zorkitipafed4626I’d like to know the facts that are the basis of your statement. And does the harm of those guns factor into the equation? Like, suicide?
"Only a small ‘inside’ group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many.” ~ Major General Smedley Butler, War is a Racket, 1935
@roberth721 it’s one of the main factors that funds all wars. Federal reserve isn’t part of our government so why pay taxes that support war. You have to understand how the central banks work around the world. The elites call the shots. Been that way since the federal reserve because that gives them the power over us.
hopefully this current war will be the last, and the radical regime in Iran will see that theres no profit in prosecuting their own people. It's a lesson for other radicals as well, if you want to force your rulership and take away basic human rights while applying immoral rules on others, theres no reward in that. may the young girls of Iran be free of radical predators, may the persian people be free to walk in the streets in however clothing they like, may the people around the world finally understand that civilization is about civility, and not martyrism.
@redmex26 I think it's a pretty easy pick if your other option is radical Islam under an Ayatollah regime. it took hundreds and thousands of years for people to get from a regime such as the one in Iran to a democracy such as in the US and other western countries. Think about that for a bit.
@I-VisiBomb-I Yeah, they could be like us, distributing bómbs to lsraeI to kiII hundreds of thousands of civilians who have been suffering under repression in their homeland for decades. They could be like us goading Ukraine into a proxy wár with Russia “to the last Ukrainian.” They could be like us driving Venezuela and Cuba into poverty through sanctions and military pressure. Fantastic. We are the best. We don’t force women to wear hijabs on their heads, we just blow their heads clear off.
Unfortunately politicians don't think like your parents, because that only works on people with morals. "Well if that's the case, then I'll make the other guy lose so much more than me, and in comparison making me look like a winner."
I think all of society for the most part has common goals but they all have opinions on how to reach the "end goal" which is peace but then we argue over the fork in the road of how to reach it.
@a.y.greyson9264do you live under a rock or just in china, every government hires people who specialize in those fields brother please dont be a shill for china without understanding how the world works
I'm surprised he didn't quote Carl Sagan. I might muck this up, but Carl Sagan said, "Earth is a living organism and an organism at war with itself is doomed."
Well, that's because that saying is silly. If the world is a living organism then the creatures living on it are just parasites because they don't give anything back. "The world would shake us of like a bad case of fleas." -George Carlin (The world does not need things living on it to be fine, it just has to exist)
That wouldn’t make sense because white blood cells are an organism and when you have an infection, your white blood cells are fighting other organisms in your body to literally help you though
As a PhD and a working in science, I can tell you scientists are susceptible to belief systems IN science. I've gotten into a heated discussion in how the data should be interpreted and while I was trying to use rationale to argue my point, the other PhD scientist attacked my credentials instead of keeping the discussion contained within the data. He basically told me he had more experience and my questions were naive and wouldn't elaborate further as to why he thought I was wrong. He basically had a belief system that he had developed over the years in science and when faced with rationale argument, he chose verbal violence over reasoning.
Yes, that's just how human brain works. We emotionally cling to stuff and it's always painful to let go even if it's science where facts and rationale supposed to be the ultimate factor...
especially professors are suceptible to vanity. They get so comfortable in the ivory towers of academia they can hardly relate to students, they established their position and are rarely challanged.
after 2 weeks of having no internet in Iran I come to youtube and this is the first video I see. Thanks Neil ; great video. Edit: Thanks for all your kind comments. Hope one day we can fight Aliens as a united earth instead of each other. 💚🤍♥ Edit2: we entered 31st day of not having internet in here...
@Niceone1998 😂 ur dumb😂 and it's because they super elites will it that way😂 there is enough $ in the world for no one to ever suffer financially 😂 or how about no $ at all what happened to all the Egalitarian society 😂 thats right the Imperials destroyed them😂
@cascad3903 there is a difference between defense/ deterrence and escalating something. When has actively escalating a conflict lead to less suffering
This is a bad idea that will get you targeted by predators. You need to defend yourself with overwhelming force if someone attempts to victimize you or attacks you.
Crazy things is, never in a single year of human history is peace. If your place is not in state of war, somewhere else on the face of the Earth is at war. This is sad.
Yet at the same time, the vast majority of humans on earth are living in peace or want to live in peace. It is the ambitions and selfishness of the few who profess to lead, who make the decision to make war.
What's odd about this is that most US presidents have been involved in a war or conflict.Even Harrison who ruled for a month presided over a war with the Seminoles. Taft - Nicaragua. Even "peaceful" ones like Carter - Iran(!!), Biden. It's mad when you look at it like that. A century where the US has been constantly at war with some group or country...
War and conquest has been the norm since mankind started organising itself Only now as Neil correctly points out we have mastered ways of killing that go beyond anything imaginable by our ancestors.
Worst quote of the movie, just made for us living today. Bronze age kings fought all the time or they wouldn’t have stayed kings for long. Even in the movie, Agamemnon was pretty far from home when Achilles said that; was he just on vacation or was he a king in a foreign land, invading with the war party?
@tctime2498The quote is pretty decent in itself, but indeed, in the context of the movie it doesn’t make sense. Kings actually continued to do war until late, for example in France, until the 13th century, Saint-Louis (Louis IX) is known to be a warrior king.
A world-renowned physicist explained how the laws of physics make interstellar travel impossible, no matter how advanced the technology. That's why I'm surprised you're talking about aliens here on Earth.
Naah, I want easy euthanasia regulations. If people want to die themselves, it should be easier legally. Idc love one another. But let me die. I'm 0 use to anyone.
The biggest advancement in war is not its efficiency in killing but its removal of the proximity and personal nature of the killing thus freeing humanity to feel more free to use it.
@colt5189 Are you signing up for regime change then? Or are you just "arm chair" generaling? Sending other people's kids off to die. If you're so adamant about it, you first.
@steveofthewildnorth7493 The Iranians already want to overthrow the regime, we're giving them a head start as their leader's body parts are impregnated into the dirt.
We spent thousands of years evolving just to find more efficient ways to turn plants into soot. It is wild that the pinnacle of human physics is finding a faster way to send ourselves back to the Stone Age.
Imagine a leader who knows he’s going down. Add to that the fact that he’s old, closer to death anyway, and has the mentality: if I go down, everyone goes down with me.
It’s wild how humans have lived for thousands and thousands of years together on this planet and we still don’t know how to live peacefully with one another. It’s a travesty.
@Kawka1122 that’s a weird comment dude. It’s not fair to point the finger and blame any single group for widespread large scales of war thruout time. There is blood on the hands of many many “sides”.
1:22 chilling thought how bombing people from above just looks like killing ants but each individual life is being destroyed and a family tree is stunted. War turns regular people into mass murderers.
I am currently serving in the military for 17 years now and I have seen war. The common person has no idea what war is. Until you have smelled burning human flesh or heard a person crying for the mother while bleeding out…..you don’t have the right to be a dictator of war or a ruler of a nation.
And then you look at the White House, turn around in disgust and then look at the Kremlin, deep in a nausea you look at Tel'Aviv, nearly vomiting already you think youd find peace in Asia - Pyongyang, uhh, Bejing... Yeah, the future doesnt look bright.
I have worked with people around the world in many different countries. These people, no matter what country, all have the same desire in life that I do. To provide for their families, to live a life that is free from fear and to be able to look forward to a better world for all. This is without exception. It’s the privileged people who are ignorant of reality that cheat themselves into power that make this difficult to achieve. Too much money to be had selling lies, fear and weapon’s of war to allow happiness to prevail.
It’s true but when you have radical zealous that believe that in order for him to ascend heaven they must to nuke the other religion it’s everyone problem It’s not about the majority of the people it’s about the radicals that can achieve nukes
Then you introduce a mind control system in other words a religion and people start killing each other in endless wars. Only way for the species to continue is ban religions. Science needs to prevail.
@idanmalka6096 Dude, it has zero to do with religion. We didn’t drop the atom bómb over religion. We didn’t get into a cold wár with Russia over religion. lsraeI isn’t threatening to núke lran over religion. It’s greed. Religion, racísm, democracy, capitalism, communism, those are used to manipulate the public into blasting the other guys. The guys at the top couldn’t care less about anything other than power.
We cant let it happen... we have to do something... (me someone who has no idea what we should do, besides spread peace and a common goal to unite us by) i feel like boomers are so selfish that they cant even think about a world without them in it, so they wont rest til they wipe us all out along with them
EVERY person in a government that has nuclear capabilities should read the classic book “On the Beach” by Neville Shute. It’s about a submarine crew submerged while a nuclear holocaust obliterates all humans on Earth. Later they surface over and over again searching for any survivors. The conclusions are chilling! A book I cannot ever forget. So realistic it makes any horror novel look like reading a book of children’s nursery rhymes.
I mean, sadly, it means nearly nothing. The people who hear it, don't change anything, and most of the people who can change anything, don't listen. The tiny circle of people who listen and can change something significant, don't. Look how quickly every stripe of CEO fell in line behind authoritarianism. Even companies like the one I work for pulled any external messaging about equality or diversity down. Millions "donated" to coins, or to pet projects, or to children and acquaintances as long as they get a carve out from the latest tariff. This country is lost.
it wasn't named after him. He started the noble prize! He used his wealth to good will after regretting inventing dynamite. one of the last faith of humanity left in this world is the noble prize.
@michaela4427 You are digging for a problem where none exists. You are surely educated and you know the awards are named after him, but he did not name or create it in this form himself. His will didn't mention naming it after himself. Again, you know this.
QFE: 15:30 ".. one thing I have found is that the less tangible the thing you're fighting for is, the more abstract it is, the less evidence there is in support of it, the more willing people are to die for it."
@bobgubman4403 Greed is inherent in the species. It's hardwired. Put two newborns in a crib and give each a toy. Come back later, and one baby will have two toys, and the other will be crying.
No we created a people who are by their very birth better then the rest of us, they inherited wealth and power through no effort of their own, they fight and manipulate to maintain power and we all go along with it. So of course our systems are corrupt from day one and Imagine this throughout all of human history, how many groups that gained power all these centuries fight to maintain it. Start things called religions write books so flawed you know it was made by man. When you think about it that way none of what's happened in history would surprise you.
As a kid, I remember Carl Sagan warning us about this. Now, as an adult, Neil deGrasse Tyson is doing the same. It's horrifying how nothing changes-and it seems like it never will. 🙁
Why would you expect anything to change? We're still the same people, same ideas, and same desires over and over and over again. Bet on humanity behaving human, not idealistically.
@nono99136 Well, we are the most intelligent species on the planet. That same intelligence and ability to reason is what, to this day, keeps us from entering a nuclear war and annihilating ourselves. In the past, I imagined that this immense power of reasoning would one day allow us to see beyond our own eyes, and I had hope... As Reagan said, and as Tyson emphasizes in this video, maybe we need a common enemy that threatens us so we can understand that WE ARE ONE
@SIRCAM73 how convenient that you forget the ALL THE MANY TIMES THAT WE CAME VERY CLOSE TO A NUCLEAR WAR !( lots of documentation on that !) and now there is the possibility of a Zionist Jihadists holy war . And you seem to be completely unaware of the fact that there can be an accident . Especially with decrepit nuclear arms systems. Particularly in Russia.
@keshiarobinson5376can you prove that would never happen? I think as long as we have desire for peace and not loss the hope, we can do so. If not entirely then atleast better than current state of things. Have hope man, we all are here together don't worry
In a video game amazingly a line about war that has always seemed true to me. "War is when the old and the bitter send the young and the gullible to slaughter each other. "
Unfortunately it’s the poor that suffer that enlist for the college benefits to achieve a better life. They actually go to poorer neighborhoods starting to recruits kids before they graduate.
Medical Virologist and Science teacher here from the UK. Thank you for releasing his content. It is the best objective description of war I have ever seen.
@Theonlyecho-k3ywho? Me or Niel? Be specific and say what you mean and mean what you say. Be objective, not subjective, and please don't be an uniformed 'rager' on RUclips. I, like Niel, can prove my qualifications and credentials, can you prove yours? If so, welcome to the scientific debate, Sir.
@oldprentonian7767 In a sense you both, but i meant Neil. He is widely criticized for 'doing Science-Communication wrong', other Science-Communicators see him as the Worst aong Them
You probably won't believe me, but belief pretty much comes fundamentally before science in terms of human nature, like we couldn't possibly functionally do science without first accepting some reality as our context, as just a common sense understanding of the words. But that's not to say "belief" doesn't get conflated with religious belief in particular, which I think you just did, and that would make some sense because religion without science working together does tend to result in war, and is itself the result of emotion over facts. Best edit by my recommendation is simply "doubts over science" which would better convey what I believe you mean. Science gives us empiricism and proof, but that doesn't mean these proofs are infallible, as any scientist should know, but in the face of scientific proof we do one of two things, believe it or doubt it. To doubt one specific proof presented to you by some peer or group isn't necessarily putting science below one's gut feelings, there is reasonable doubt where there is reason, but in the absence of any better understanding or further reason, to doubt in the face of proof would obviously be delusional. Once again it's just a matter of what words mean, it really helps to know what words mean.
Should be it. But scientists are also captured by narratives, emotions and yes, money. A clear mind shoud always search for peace but USA is the bigest scientific military market.
@conspiracy1914violence begets violence this is a known thing like the color scheme of primary colors - should be common sense and knowledge by now and it isn't on purpose 🤷 because being social is a math equation we weren't supposed to solve for them 🙄
I had a math teacher who's favourite saying was. "A fact is fluff gets stuck in your belly button and you have to pick it out . Silly maybe but profound
Every time I hear national hymns, every time I see national flags waving, every time I watch people on the streets with portraits of their favorite leader, I see people too easily manipulated to fight wars against their fellow human beings for the interests of a few mad men.
Exactly. Nationalism and similar constructs (e.g., religion) are the worst. They're all made up to divide people and manipulate them. I remember being in third grade saying the pledge with all the other kids with hand on heart facing the flag and out of nowhere felt like it was really weird. Stopped saying it, just mouthed along. Wondered why we are all about freedom but all required to salute a flag and sing a song. It only went "down hill" after that.
The closest we came to a common universal threat and even world peace (in my lifetime) was COVID 19. And yet we still didn't get along. The history of humanity should tell you everything - and it looks grim. Also, the Albert Einstein quote about WWIV was profound.
Asian hate crime surged during Covid, Japanese and Taiwan tourists got physically attacked because people thought they were Chinese, there’s videos of people spitting on Asians in the sidewalk, but ignorance is bliss I guess
@aaronyaunt9072 I think they are saying that would have been the world's opportunity to come together in the face of a universal threat, and we failed. If they had put a comma after "COVID 19", instead of a period, I think their point might have been more easily understood. But I agree, COVID-19 definitely would have been the chance for us to prove that we could come together. Due to lockdowns, even the environment started bouncing back in ways that scientists could predict. But we humans refused to come together during that time. And now that it's behind us, we're more divided than ever. It's very sad. Also, thank you for bringing attention to the asian hate crimes that happened. I know people who were targeted. Not every story makes the news, and now no one really mentions it anymore.
Im afraid those who should be tarjeted are not going to last even 5 secs in this video , possibly going to leave a comment againts without knowing what the video is about . Cheap minds with cheap beliefs , thats why Trump is president :(
@AndreiTol Those in highest need of seeing it, will probably never even know this video exists. And if by accident they do, they couldn’t care less, and will brush it aside like it is a pesky insect.
I think most people forget that it's not just the politicians, but also civilians who are heavily involved in politics who are part of the problem. In previous situations across the world where no political power existed, it was those few civilians heavily involved in politics who took up the power themselves. But yeah, the majority of the population aren't interested in politics and would rather not have war happen.
Absolutely. something hardly anyone ever talks about. On the internet, war becomes just a joke for many people. Even the White House social media channel is feeding into that with memes and AI videos. It’s very concerning, especially when you think about what this could lead to if society keeps loosing empathy.
I love the message here. Let's start with the US reducing its footprint, removing all these bases and lowering its military budget. It's difficult to have a conversation with a gun to your head.
Serving military guy here. And I firmly believe that we are staring at the extinction of our species and this beautiful planet. May someone knock this realisation to the decision makers.
Always a pleasure to hear Neil’s take on humanity and science. War is proof that as a species we haven’t evolved as much as we give ourselves credit for. For all our technology, ability to create language, etc., we still deal with our disagreements beating each other up like animals. We have a very long way to go.
yeah but - who knows - even when someone invented the wheel, so many bones had been broke under that, or when the first steam machines worked in UK and people where just suffocating… or at the beginning of any technological innovation be it trains or planes, as we are now with computer science… with more opportunities comes more risk
No... No, no, no, no. To compare humans to animals is an insult. Animals aren't nearly as vicious to their own kind as humans are. Humans made it an artform to eliminate and/or torture each other for as long as they've been around. There's maybe a few good ones, but a whole lot of terrible ones that think they're good.
“War Does Not Determine Who Is Right-Only Who Is Left.” ~Bertrand Russell Get the picture? Thanks for paying homage to Jack Horkheimer, Neil. I grew up watching "Stargazer" from Miami in the 80's, He played a big part of my childhood, and to hear you end your content with "Keep looking up", always reminds me of Jack and places a smile on my face. ✧✧✧
What are your thoughts on science's role in warfare? Do you think there will come a time where "we will all get along", and if so what would it take to bring the World together in that way?
I believe AI has the ability to either give us means via resource abundance to break the chain in the history of war or it will cause our final war. Nothing in between.
Egodeath
Great video. It's a hard truth, but conflict is the ultimate accelerator of innovation. So many things we take for granted came directly from the need to win wars. Computers were born from code-breaking, GPS from military navigation, and even microwaves from radar tech. Necessity isn't just the mother of invention; war is its crucible. Science, fueled by the urgency of defense, has given us the tools that shape our modern world.
Remove religion from politics would be a good start .
Unfortunately, the intended audience is not watching Star Talk.
A few might if they are looking for astrology but they click away within 15 seconds.
Lol. If u want war.. be in the war.
Stop supporting Islamic tyranny against the Iranian citizens.
@laertesindeed it's much more complex than that yk
@khan-horsesif you're for the war, go fight yourself. My brother did Iraq and Afghanistan. My son won't be in Iran
"War is young men dying and old men talking." - Odysseus (Troy, 2004)
St true. But Just true for US. In Iran is young, and old and children killed as well, and all sreaming. (Suetonius Rome 70 ac.)
the odyssey, which the movie takes the quote from, is a lot older than 2004 though.
I was thinking the same thing remembering that movie
Damn…
@niscent_perhaps 2400 years?
Humans don't need a common enemy, we need a common GOAL.
yeah buddy.
it is the spin to win.
Halo.... The premise of Halo
BORG
And a lot of common sense
There is , it is called advanced of our species
Instead of starting wars, world leaders should pick up a sword and 1v1
Fr
Thank you for this 😂. You made me laugh.
Cool profile picture and a true comment
@Padra_with_the_cat_profile_pic cool pfp too gng
If it was a war of conquest and subjugation, lets say for exmaple: you're a Tibetan farmer and the Chinese government decides it will take evrything that is yours and your neighbours stuff and everyone you know will now face and submit to those lwas. You'd let your destiny depend on a 1v1?
War does not determine who is right, only who is left.
Well, sadly those things are the same in a lot of cases. Might makes right IS a viable way of seeing the world. It’s horrid, but it does work.
This comment deserves more likes
Wow thats a powerful quote
Winners write history
That's the paradox of our species. We have mastered the laws of physics and engineering far more effectively than we have mastered the ability to coexist.
If you ask me...from an outside perspective? Earth, Humans - unable to unite as money has put evil people in positions of power and are in fact locked in a perpetual species wide civil war.
MASTERED?
@240Savwtf emoji is that; maybe we do need war after all 🧨☄️🔥
Need more leaders taking psychedlics
The ability to see paradoxes where there's clear patterns of cause and effect is what we've mastered here
Why does it always seem like psychopaths are the ones who always get into power.
Because of the American public education system the last, well, forever actually.
Normal people don't want that sort of power?
Well it makes sense doesn't it? Psychopaths usually crave power and will do anything to get it.
Because it takes a psychopath to want to wield that sort of power. Its rigged in favour of psychopaths
Their ability to manipulate others gets them into high office.
In the past, Kings fought alongside their troops, now you have old greedy rich men send young men to die.
I heard this quote a few years back: "Those who study history are doomed to watch those who do not, repeat it."
@khan-horseshmm that’s a pretty interesting take on it
This quote is almost as old as history it self and every single person knows this.
"Those who study history know that studying the history wont change tomorrow"
My father was a World War II veteran, bronze, star, purple heart, all that stuff - lost almost all of his regiment but he survived.. He is no longer with us but I always remember one thing in particular he said. "If you saw what I saw, you wouldn't have a parade".
Your Dad was a wise man. Glad he was there when America needed him.
@BubbleBunnyy-- There once was a time that I encouraged young men to join up, but that time has passed.
Thats deep
Thank you we appreciate your dad’s service and we apologize everything he went through😢
Combat veteran here. I've yet to see any benefits of war. War is always a result of human failure.
@r13hd22unfortunately it’s not about freeing people. It’s about making money and having control
@r13hd22again human failure regardless of a dictator or imaginary threat. Fear lives in all politicians and leaders, they don’t thrive on love.
Well said.
Those who can't be trusted with power want it, those who can don't.
NO WAR, MORE SCIENCE.
I have a wakeup call for you.
Unfortunally science always did make the fastest developments during war.
Because what they always say is actually true.
And that saying is as follows: "Necessity is the mother of inventions".
Hey, hey, it's mista vee
He even said it b4, war accelerate technology
I agree
@richardle7469 I missed that part.
When Chuck didn't show up, I knew Neil was really serious this time.
can you imagine if they included Chuck to Neil's narration of "Cosmos" hehehe
🤙 🤙 Determinism is Freedom 🤙 🤙 🤙
They should have got Chuck for this video ~
chuck is an irritating, idiotic distractor.
@Zenithx3Chuck might not be your cup of tea but he’s certainly not an idiot. He’s learned a lot from Neil and has started to piece certain things together himself.
"a mouse might be weak and stupider than humans but i never see a mouse build a mouse trap"
They would if they 'could'.
@kisumufilms1495you just being unrealistic you missed the point.
But they are cannibals and can eat each other.
@kisumufilms1495 Not really a logical way to look at it, they don't have our intelligence to use their higher selves. They operate out of instincts. It's false to assume they would be worse than us if they had the intelligence to build what we can as that would give them the same brain capacity for morality as well.
I hope this video get more than a billon views before the year ends
You’re severely deluded. You must live in a bubble. Have you been to America? You can’t step 2 feet without some sort of maggot harassment.
Thank you for your service you bring up a valid philosophy.
Delusional. This is an Inevitable War between Western Liberal Democratic Civilization VS Genocidal Terrorist Fascistic Barbaric Islam. Wake Up.
Humanity remembers through history, but individuals only learn through experience and because every generation is new, the same mistakes return.
Profound point
Nah.. each generation is a derivative of the prior generation.. 💯💯💯
@kre81188that's what he said??
Then why are we stuck in a loop of the same bs
Ibn Khaldun has pointed this out, he was a true genius in politics and the sciences.
The funny thing is, most world leaders who send young people to die in wars have never fought one single day in their lives
Exactly. It's kinda sad
It’s unacceptable. And it could be changed by law.
Nor do they tell their children to sign up to fight.
Im pretty sure trump fought once... when a guy cut in front of him at McDonald's in the 90s... 😂
Not in case of iran All their leader like the son of khomeni who is now the leader of iran fought the war against iraq vs Saddam Hussein when he invaded iran .
As a veteran of warfare, thank you for an enlightening lesson.
"I don't know how WW3 will be fought, but I know WW4 will be fought with sticks and stones" - such a painful truth.
I believe humans will be long gone. I am simply hopeful that animals will thrive and species on the brink will come back. Imagine how loud the birds will be.
@jennydiver100 lol wtf did i just read...
@KGTV2288 with the way things are going now you better believe her.
That statement took my breath away 🤦🏾♀️
@emiiiiyou must have missed the part where nuclear winter was described in the early 80s… you’re literally living in the safest era in human history, you just pay attention to the media more then you use to
My 14 year old son heard me listening to this video and he goes "are u listening to Neil?" How awesome is that!! Didn't even know he was aware who Neil is!
Your son is likely hooked up to the internet to an extent that surprises you, he probably knows a lot of stuff that would surprise you.
I agree with the other guy but also, being specifically into science content is a good sign lol
I wish your son grow up to become a great man like Neil
Your son rules
My 12 year old son just came into my room and said "damn, he has grey hair now". :)
War never changes.
Alright fine I’ll replay Fallout!
This is a conversation I often have with my students. We’ve become too powerful as a species to survive if we don’t learn to collaborate :/
Honestly, I personally think that THE ONLY road that leads to the Survival of the Human Species, long-term, is the one called _The Sword of Damocles._
In other words, we need to establish ONLY ONE *genuinely Good Guy nation* in charge of *ALL* of the BIG & BAD weapons, at the exclusion of all other countries.
“The sky calls to us. If we do not destroy ourselves, we will one day venture to the stars.”

stephen hawking said something like that also

The instant we find aliens humans are going to go insane
Multiple black holes swallow the milky way galaxy to get rid of two legged pig.
War is the most egocentric act of mankind: the moment one man’s hunger for power outweighs another man’s right to live.
But that's every animal....it is in our nature to take more than we need selfishly to propogate our specific gene code
Why do people protect their family members more than random people, kin selection
No infact thats actually what science is. It took what God created and made it into what man created.
@DankHank41 humans are capable of solidarity too.
Does that make war that is started to liberate people just? I think it does.
@DankHank41Humans run on far fewer instincts than any other animal. Some humans go as far as to actively harm or exploit their family.
"We need a common enemy to unite us" - gives Watchmen vibes
Unfortunately for most of us, war is extremely profitable for a few people.
Reminds me of Iron Man (the first one).
That's the real reason.
Those few people who benefit from.
war are the Elite bankers that fund both sides.
And what we need to do with them?🎉
If you don't believe WARNING do not do it - it's dangerous - YOU WILL GET POSSED AND YOU MIGHT ACTUALLY DIE !!!!! I WARNED YOU - IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME - Call Exorcist in Vatican - See what happens - Do not blame me for side affect because I WARNED YOU - SERIOUSLY
Fighting the rich man’s war is a fools errand
Not many of you were at risk , and you rely on the petrol dollar regardless.
Even worse - rich paedos.

The best take I heard is the quote from Crimson Tide: "In the nuclear world, the true enemy is war itself."
The measure of humanity is not what it conquers, but what it can live beside.
@pmurtaConTom they’re both being measured and the former has way more mass, volume, and weight.
@newmexicoseahawk Humanity lacks a unifying purpose and, in its current form, acts like a cancer on the Earth.
The real enemy is the capitalists who profit from wars.
Wargames "A strange game. The only winning move is not to play...."
As always, well said. I just hope someone hears
When a species reaches the technological level of self-destruction, it either evolves or dies.
wow
I mean...based on what though?? Humans are the only such species as far as is known, & we've been able to destroy ourselves for nearly 70 years now, & I don't see much evolving occurring. Your comment is a snappy line to be sure, but is it accurate?
@scottsherman5262 that means we will die as species soon
"But does Man have any 'right' to spread through the universe? Man is what he is, a wild animal with the will to survive, and (so far) the ability, against all competition. Unless one accepts that, anything one says about morals, war, politics, you name it, is nonsense. Correct morals arise from knowing what man is, not what do-gooders and well-meaning old Aunt Nellies would like him to be. The Universe will let us know - later - whether or not Man has any "right" to expand through it."
- Robert A.
Wait until we have the tech for biological weapons. One person can decide to end the world.
This is why Aliens don't talk to us.
I know if I had the ability to travel bewteen star systems and planets, I would most definitely NOT stop by a planet who's bent on self destruction.
Not only that, but think about what Regean said, if we saw an alien race visit earth we would immediately see them as a threat to unite us.
If they are peaceful aliens and they heard that speech they would be like.."no thanks , I'm not looking to become their enemy"
For real
That's assuming that the aliens aren't already among us and burning the world down.
@SSJfrazNot like we need help. We’ve been acting in self destructive ways, repeatedly, since we’ve existed.
“We are beholden to the sanity of whoever has access to that button.” What a terrifying thought at this current time.

@Nysyarc Enough criminal cases are prevented by ethical gun owners to justify it.
Oh bs! Go to a war then talk
@ak9989 Smedley Butler did go to war, don't you recognize a quote from a book when it's plainly written?
@SuperiorCaptain-w6s that will solve war?
@ak9989 I don’t understand the level of ignorance it took to write that sentence.
@roberth721 it’s one of the main factors that funds all wars. Federal reserve isn’t part of our government so why pay taxes that support war. You have to understand how the central banks work around the world. The elites call the shots. Been that way since the federal reserve because that gives them the power over us.
The last war we need to fight is against those who keep getting us into wars for profit.
hopefully this current war will be the last, and the radical regime in Iran will see that theres no profit in prosecuting their own people.
Who else but psychopaths CHASE power?
You think the US and the other powers are gonna keep civility 😂😂😂@I-VisiBomb-I
@redmex26 I think it's a pretty easy pick if your other option is radical Islam under an Ayatollah regime. it took hundreds and thousands of years for people to get from a regime such as the one in Iran to a democracy such as in the US and other western countries.
We don’t force women to wear hijabs on their heads, we just blow their heads clear off.
war will never get us to a star trek type of civilization
I was taught by my parents, "When you resort to violence, you've already lost." My Dad was a literal rocket scientist. ♾
by your logic America is the biggest looser nation 🤣
They were talking about getting into fights at school. You took it too literally.
@mohamedelhaddade6371 It is these days
Unfortunately politicians don't think like your parents, because that only works on people with morals. "Well if that's the case, then I'll make the other guy lose so much more than me, and in comparison making me look like a winner."
@villekivela370 Because Iran trying to build nuke is so peaceful ✌️
Imagine how far we would be as a species if everybody got along and worked together.
Complain to the js
"if"
I hear u. Unfortunately, the World isn't designed that way
@dreadex7617 No thanks for clowns like you, that´s for sure.
Start blaming the true reason for war then: religion.
I think all of society for the most part has common goals but they all have opinions on how to reach the "end goal" which is peace but then we argue over the fork in the road of how to reach it.
You made me cry… we need more scientists and less crazy politicians.
That’s what China has done. Their government is filled with mathematicians, engineers, biologist, etc. explaining the rapid progress in society.
This lunatic is not a renowned scientist; He is a self ideological provocature.
Scientists cause more deaths than the most reckless politicians
@TheNewMexican505Care to back up this ridiculous statement?
@a.y.greyson9264do you live under a rock or just in china, every government hires people who specialize in those fields brother please dont be a shill for china without understanding how the world works
So refreshing to listen to such an intelligent, compassionate man
Emphasis on intelligent
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm surprised he didn't quote Carl Sagan. I might muck this up, but Carl Sagan said, "Earth is a living organism and an organism at war with itself is doomed."
Well, that's because that saying is silly. If the world is a living organism then the creatures living on it are just parasites because they don't give anything back. "The world would shake us of like a bad case of fleas." -George Carlin (The world does not need things living on it to be fine, it just has to exist)
@raicudoBut we DO need the world to exist.
@babette217 We need it, sure. It doesn't need us.
That wouldn’t make sense because white blood cells are an organism and when you have an infection, your white blood cells are fighting other organisms in your body to literally help you though
Yeah, but quoted Ronald Reagan. Of all people, Ronald Reagan...
Shared on FB as the best 19 minutes anyone could listen to. Thank you Neil.
I've worked in academia before. You'd be amazed how many scholars cannot put forward their inputs just because of their credentials.
@muffindude2087 sounds like he was into the political sciences instead
Rates of failure exist. Furthered by democracy.
We are a dangerous specie, not only to ourselves, but to all other species as well
please do not say We! The whole world has one enemy and we all know who they are now
@muzeak1982 who are they? I am new, please tell me.
@AhmadRaad-j7gjewish billionaire's
@mish-w8eWe are our own enemy.
@mish-w8eIsrael
after 2 weeks of having no internet in Iran I come to youtube and this is the first video I see.
Thanks Neil ; great video.
Edit: Thanks for all your kind comments. Hope one day we can fight Aliens as a united earth instead of each other.
💚🤍♥
Edit2: we entered 31st day of not having internet in here...
I hope you can get out of there and somewhere safe.
We are sorry. I hope you stay safe and keep a good heart despite the evil around us all
The American people do not want what is happening to your people. I don’t want to share any blame but I am truly sorry for what’s happening.
@Pepsolman You're right, 92 million Iranians should become refugees and come to the US and Europe, just like what happened to Syria /s
Wish you safety and strength in this incredibly scary time. Love from 🇨🇦
Cancer is one common enemy. Global warning is another one. And poverty. And hunger. And yet none of them united us.
Because not everyone has cancer, hunger or is poverty stricken
@Niceone1998 😂 ur dumb😂 and it's because they super elites will it that way😂 there is enough $ in the world for no one to ever suffer financially 😂 or how about no $ at all what happened to all the Egalitarian society 😂 thats right the Imperials destroyed them😂
And billionaires
@Niceone1998 Not yet, but that's the direction everything has been heading.
@N@NocturneJester yeah scary times!
The proposed US military budget is $1.5 trillion. Imagine what the world could be if we weren't spending that on the military.
I was taught at a young age when it come to conflict that you’ve been mentally beaten if you choose to resort to violence.
Diplomacy fails at times though. You cant control others action, but your response.
How do we stop the “mentally ill?”
You are not a country and you know nothing about deterrence. Escalation and violence can actually reduce suffering.
@shinyThings77you can't have the world strongest military by being at peace
War and conquest has been the norm since mankind started organising itself
Only now as Neil correctly points out we have mastered ways of killing that go beyond anything imaginable by our ancestors.
Heck, the police are in my apartment community almost every week.
Imagine a king who fights his own battles, now wouldn't a sight (Troy,2004)
Worst quote of the movie, just made for us living today.
Bronze age kings fought all the time or they wouldn’t have stayed kings for long.
Even in the movie, Agamemnon was pretty far from home when Achilles said that; was he just on vacation or was he a king in a foreign land, invading with the war party?
@tctime2498The quote is pretty decent in itself, but indeed, in the context of the movie it doesn’t make sense. Kings actually continued to do war until late, for example in France, until the 13th century, Saint-Louis (Louis IX) is known to be a warrior king.
I said this exact same thing let the politicians go to war and leave us alone let’s see how long they will last
@ObeleAgu-95who gets nukes?
A world-renowned physicist explained how the laws of physics make interstellar travel impossible, no matter how advanced the technology. That's why I'm surprised you're talking about aliens here on Earth.
The world needs this video so much, so badly. More love. More knowledge. More laughter. Less hate.
Yeah, too bad the people that need this message the most don't even speak English, and their internet has been cut off by their own government.
@wainr777able Yeah, because it was them who initiated the attacks...
That's why I'm here
Get rid of all religion and there would be peace
Naah, I want easy euthanasia regulations. If people want to die themselves, it should be easier legally.
Idc love one another. But let me die. I'm 0 use to anyone.
The biggest advancement in war is not its efficiency in killing but its removal of the proximity and personal nature of the killing thus freeing humanity to feel more free to use it.
Yes, before we had to take one life with our own hand, fell their breath slowly fading away but now all it takes is a push of a button
Yes. Its easier to compartmentalize and pull a trigger when you don't have to face what you did directly.
I guess children today get plenty of practice on the gaming system.
ya bombing peopel with ur cell phone
I mean in theory yea but in reality killing used to be a LOT more common back in those times
this should be translated, dubbed, and published 7/24 on every media all over the world.
Yeah right. Publish it right along with his definition of a woman. LMAO. The guy is a clown.
How would that have worked inside Iran with the government running the media and turning off the internet?
@colt5189 Are you signing up for regime change then? Or are you just "arm chair" generaling? Sending other people's kids off to die. If you're so adamant about it, you first.
@steveofthewildnorth7493 The Iranians already want to overthrow the regime, we're giving them a head start as their leader's body parts are impregnated into the dirt.
Yeah should be translated in hebrew first
Humans have been fighting wars since the beginning of civilization
We spent thousands of years evolving just to find more efficient ways to turn plants into soot. It is wild that the pinnacle of human physics is finding a faster way to send ourselves back to the Stone Age.
We is too many people. It is just a handful of people in power.
We haven't evolved culturally at all
@Sagittis_veritatisI dont think that word means what you think it means.
That's the true version of time travel
@bentucker2301 you may want to find a good history channel to follow
Imagine a leader who knows he’s going down. Add to that the fact that he’s old, closer to death anyway, and has the mentality: if I go down, everyone goes down with me.
That's actually be a very interesting and refreshing take. Now it's just "I won't go down, and if I ever do, I want to have all the things".
Oh come on, like that would ever happen.
[touches earpiece]
...oh.
Then look at Putin 😥
You mean like our current “president?”
@Pympjuice2010and trump
It’s wild how humans have lived for thousands and thousands of years together on this planet and we still don’t know how to live peacefully with one another. It’s a travesty.
humans have been around for millions of years
It's mainly because Israel and Jews. They were expelled hundred times from all over the world throughout history
@Kawka1122 that’s a weird comment dude. It’s not fair to point the finger and blame any single group for widespread large scales of war thruout time. There is blood on the hands of many many “sides”.
You're the example of why.. @Kawka1122
@BFP2021😅 I know what you mean so your point still stands but to be more accurate it's hundreds of thousands. Our species is not that old.
"Power of conversation" that is what world needs right now.
"War ends only when people love each other"-lord Buddha ❤🕊️
1:22 chilling thought how bombing people from above just looks like killing ants but each individual life is being destroyed and a family tree is stunted. War turns regular people into mass murderers.
Even the smallest life has importance.
Which the US 🇺🇸 is.
I heard that those crowds were sudan The RSF is backed by the UAE, which has been accused of complicity in genocide at the ICJ
I am currently serving in the military for 17 years now and I have seen war. The common person has no idea what war is. Until you have smelled burning human flesh or heard a person crying for the mother while bleeding out…..you don’t have the right to be a dictator of war or a ruler of a nation.
You are loved. 💜🪽
Is this Mark Wayne Mullins? Thank you for your service Mark! 🤠 🇺🇲
Well said
Why join an armed forces that had only cause evil in the world?
No one has ever the right to be a dictator of war.
4:15 " were beholden to the Sanity of anyone who has access to a nuke." That's insane to think about
And kind of makes you think that maybe it isn't true. Maybe the people who are really in power, aren't the crazy ones we see on tv.
Especially with our current idiot in chief.
5:00 TRUMP 2028! 🇺🇸🇮🇱
@PickleMeat🤢🤮
And then you look at the White House, turn around in disgust and then look at the Kremlin, deep in a nausea you look at Tel'Aviv, nearly vomiting already you think youd find peace in Asia - Pyongyang, uhh, Bejing...
Yeah, the future doesnt look bright.
"An eye for an eye" leaves everyone blind
I have worked with people around the world in many different countries. These people, no matter what country, all have the same desire in life that I do.
To provide for their families, to live a life that is free from fear and to be able to look forward to a better world for all.
This is without exception.
It’s the privileged people who are ignorant of reality that cheat themselves into power that make this difficult to achieve.
Too much money to be had selling lies, fear and weapon’s of war to allow happiness to prevail.
It’s true but when you have radical zealous that believe that in order for him to ascend heaven they must to nuke the other religion it’s everyone problem
It’s not about the majority of the people it’s about the radicals that can achieve nukes
Then you introduce a mind control system in other words a religion and people start killing each other in endless wars. Only way for the species to continue is ban religions. Science needs to prevail.
You clearly haven't worked in Afganistan.
@churblefurblesnope, might get shot over there…
@idanmalka6096 Dude, it has zero to do with religion.
The host of the Apprentice reality show should not be our end.
🙄🙄🙄
idk it's kinda poetic
We cant let it happen... we have to do something... (me someone who has no idea what we should do, besides spread peace and a common goal to unite us by) i feel like boomers are so selfish that they cant even think about a world without them in it, so they wont rest til they wipe us all out along with them
Stupidity is our end, manifested in leaders bought and sold.
My teacher once said to me "7 days of peace, harmony and working together between us all, and the world will leap 50 years ahead in a week"
Sure Jan, and diversity is our strength.🙄
ask him why it doesnt happen, this is idealism, not realism.
@wout123100 too may physcopaths and too much greed on this planet
I don't see it
That's not how reality works
EVERY person in a government that has nuclear capabilities should read the classic book “On the Beach” by Neville Shute. It’s about a submarine crew submerged while a nuclear holocaust obliterates all humans on Earth. Later they surface over and over again searching for any survivors. The conclusions are chilling! A book I cannot ever forget. So realistic it makes any horror novel look like reading a book of children’s nursery rhymes.
“Thank you, Neil deGrasse Tyson. Your voice of reason in times when reason is scarce means a lot.”
You quoted yourself 😂
The Nobel Peace Prize being named after the guy that invented dynamite is a perfect symbol of what our species is.
mate he created the nobel prize BECAUSE he was known as the merchant of death. so he wanted to be known for something other than killing people
it wasn't named after him. He started the noble prize! He used his wealth to good will after regretting inventing dynamite. one of the last faith of humanity left in this world is the noble prize.
@BandankoEven so, he named it after himself. Why? Is he more concerned with his name than anything else?
I would say 'ironic', rather than 'perfect'.
" War never changes "
Here we go again. Same thing Carl Sagan was warning about in the70s, 80s and the early 90s. Now we have to go through this again.
I've come to the conclusion that the flaws inherent within our species will never allow us to be free from conflict, ever.
And never Will.
Humans are predators
@bobgubman4403 I am afraid you are right. Sigh. Deep sigh.
@nono99136exactly. Nothing has fundamentally changed about the human condition over the past 150 or so centuries of human civilization.
^ You're quoting raegan? Ironic.
“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.”
Amen, Mashallah, Tathastu, ..., 👍🙂↕
That will never happen, money and power has already taken over man’s brain 😢😢
@keshiarobinson5376can you prove that would never happen?
I think as long as we have desire for peace and not loss the hope, we can do so. If not entirely then atleast better than current state of things.
Have hope man, we all are here together don't worry
@khan-horsesyeah first we have to build it then live it but in order to build a house you do have to first fantasies about it's beauty naah
Hendrix
Is it a PhD that makes 'mode of operation' to exist? This is Gold.
In a video game amazingly a line about war that has always seemed true to me. "War is when the old and the bitter send the young and the gullible to slaughter each other. "
That is a famous quote from 1000s of years ago. War is old men talking and young men dying. Paraphrased from homer
Been there, done that... Vietnam 71-73
Unfortunately it’s the poor that suffer that enlist for the college benefits to achieve a better life. They actually go to poorer neighborhoods starting to recruits kids before they graduate.
And war never changes
At the Western movies most of the time, the young braves want to fight, but the old chief does not allow it and it is not easy for him to stop them.
Thank you. If only the world could hit the pause button and listen to what you’re saying. If only.
Where’s anonymous when you need em to do a global media hack
Not only listen, but pay attention, and take his words to heart.
Plenty of wise people, sages, philosophers, etc. have been echoing their thoughts against war for well over a millennia. This is nothing new.
dont sink into idealism..the reality is most people will not see this or understand what is being said.
If the world hit the pause button, no one would hear what he is saying.
Medical Virologist and Science teacher here from the UK. Thank you for releasing his content. It is the best objective description of war I have ever seen.
With all given Respect, this is exactly the 'stick your nose in topics you are not qualified to talk about' that people criticize you for
@Theonlyecho-k3ywho?
He is widely criticized for 'doing Science-Communication wrong', other Science-Communicators see him as the Worst aong Them
@Theonlyecho-k3yI notice you're 'light' on the proving of quals and credentials part.....
Damn.. i was glued to this and picked every word said, such mind-boggling thoughts.
Beliefs over science = emotion over facts = war over peace
WE FIGHT FOR JlHAD❤❤❤
YOU FIGHT FOR JUHAD !!!
❤❤❤
@Yassirarafat-l1s
You forgot money 😅
Should be it. But scientists are also captured by narratives, emotions and yes, money. A clear mind shoud always search for peace but USA is the bigest scientific military market.
This video should be played in schools. Well said. Much love from 🇨🇦
Unfortunately hate is taught at home, and gets passed down from generation to generation.
@blackeybrown9772 iT DEFiNiTELY KAN B ! OR NEW HATEZ ACQUiRED OR EXCHANGED 4 OLD ONEZ ! VERY FEW EVEN TRY & DEBUNK THEiR OWN iDiOCY & BELiEFZ !
Abraham's children, those three doomsday cults would not permit it.
This video shoud be given only to president trump , and all problems solved
Schools are too busy teaching lgbtq lessons
Violence is the refuge of the intellectually incapable.
🫶🫶🫶
The intellectually challenged.
Please be respectful.
Ironic you didn’t listen to a word he said did you?
not always. sometimes its justice. not talking about this war
We don't need a common enemy to get along we need a common cause. We should be working together towards building a better world.
Remember when we came togethor to get rid of covid 19
Well said ❤
Imagine how much further along humanity would be if we realized we were all on the same side.
Every time I hear national hymns, every time I see national flags waving, every time I watch people on the streets with portraits of their favorite leader, I see people too easily manipulated to fight wars against their fellow human beings for the interests of a few mad men.
Well then you got to listen to le internationale. The anthem of the works of the world. No borders. No rulers.
@chadmarx7718 sounds like a pipe dream, we live in reality
Interesting point, are you saying that nations should not exist?
@joedirt9172you think the workers uniting is a pipe dream? Sir, that just shows that they’ve brainwashed YOU.
Thank you for making this video. Hopefully whoever needs to see it, will see it!
Im afraid those who should be tarjeted are not going to last even 5 secs in this video , possibly going to leave a comment againts without knowing what the video is about . Cheap minds with cheap beliefs , thats why Trump is president :(
Like North Korea and Iran?
@AndreiTol
Those in highest need of seeing it, will probably never even know this video exists. And if by accident they do, they couldn’t care less, and will brush it aside like it is a pesky insect.
WE HAVE UN AND IAEA AS WORLD CLASS EXPERTS .... No need to follower Israel's experts because they prefer killing people they don't like
you mean like the Ayatollahs and Russia right?
16:09 He really just said "Why don't presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?" -SOAD🤘
Welcome to the Soldier's Side... Where there's no one left but me...
Someone once said, " Its old men who declare war, but its the young who fight and die!"
So sad😢
The concerning thing is how normalisation of violence becomes in every step in society.
Absolutely. something hardly anyone ever talks about.
On the internet, war becomes just a joke for many people. Even the White House social media channel is feeding into that with memes and AI videos. It’s very concerning, especially when you think about what this could lead to if society keeps loosing empathy.
Yeah like abortion
@iam.loumos true that
I love the message here.
"But... but what about the shareholders ?" said a scaringly big part of the world.
Exactly a lot of work to do maybe be more like vulcans with logic rather than emotions.
“War Does Not Determine Who Is Right-Only Who Is Left.” ~Bertrand Russell
Get the picture?
Thanks for paying homage to Jack Horkheimer, Neil.
I grew up watching "Stargazer" from Miami in the 80's,
He played a big part of my childhood, and to hear you
end your content with "Keep looking up", always reminds me of
Jack and places a smile on my face. ✧✧✧
