can someone explain why it was okay for his different components to all be combined in a single line of solder. I thought that would mess up the circuit.
It's because of the way the neutrals work. The colors are each vertical, with the neutrals horizontal. Only one level at a time is activated by the neutrals, so while the whole cube has current for a single layer at a time, only one layer is active. It flickers a little because it flips between layers in a sequence.
Impressive patience! It is a great example for trading cost with time. I would rather replace those breadboard circuits with custom made PCBs, it would greatly reduce the tedious wiring need/time at the cost of the PCBs and the less tedious PCB CAD design.
Well done! I so admire people that do projects like this. It would be great if you could sell the wooden jigs - or indeed all components as part of a kit.
I wonder if there is a commercial Jig you can get to do this. I see the 16^3 arrays out there looking pretty impressive. If they sold these already prepped, I bet people would buy it...
As per schematic drawing there is no vcc and gnd to transistor circuit of individual 595 ic. But in yt vdo u have given power supply to all Is VCC and gnd to be connected to all 24 transistor circuits ? further all shift resistor are required to be connected to 5v of aurdino board? Pl respond and Co operate I had requested to provide schematic and code for testing of boards. Pl upload it
The cube was always a great project but dude you could have saved more time and headache if you did each colour on 1 circuit board each, preferably "new" ones not used. All 8 channels would fit nicely on 1 board. So instead of having 7/8 boards you would have like 4. It would of saved you time and troubleshooting. Just watching the soldering of them gave me a stroke and I'm a electronics major. Overall good job.
If you play this video at 1x speed, you can hear your plants grow. I just fell asleep nearly 40 times over the length of this video, but i finally made it to the end. Never mind, i would not do it again...
Hi, In your schematic the pin 9 on IC1 is disconnected and also pin 14 on IC2. Is that correct? or must connect pin 9 on IC1 to pin 14 on IC2. Thanks for the video.
I am trying to figure the exact same thing out. I just built the ANODE board, but the schematic does not buss the arduino read pin down to the first Blue board.. If anybody gets an answer to this it would be really appreciated
I like your work! In your schematic diagram you have on the Anode board Shift register Pin 13 connected on the Arduino Pin 04 and the Blue layer 1 as well, but after that all the others Shift register Pin 13 is connected on the Arduino Pin 13. Can you verify please, thank you.
Can you please clarify if ALL shift registers (including the one on the ANODE board) feed their signal from Pin-9 to the following shift register? The reason I ask is that the schematic does NOT show the shift register on the ANODE board as being connected to the first BLUE cathode board. Also, the Arduino data pin shown on the schematic is NOT being bussed down to the first BLUE board so how does data get to the first BLUE board???

Hello We are students of a certain high school in Taiwan We use your program to create a feature but ran into some problems Is it convenient for you to answer some questions?
Great project, I might try to replicate. However, few toughts: I would try to fit 4/8 channels on one board (maybe one/two boards for each color?) and make a backplane to fit the boards (with the node controller and power lines) . Do not fear to play with the placement of components and maybe try to use the components leads (resistors mainly) to save some wired connections. That way leave less room to errors. Nice layout of the boards, but in my opinion, could fit more circuits on one board.
I actually have no idea what I'm seeing. I recycle and have torn a lot of things apart for the copper. Would this be considered 'primitive' considering what's being done with chips, shelacque, wafering, etc.? Could we be looking at development of 3-D television? Throw some spun fiberglass, cotton candy, crystals in there and use auras to create ghosts? I'm guessing that the programming is another matter entirely in how to get these crossovers to function for desired effects (Microsoft)? Reminds me of that movie about Steve Jobs and they spun a few moments of him swimming through numbers & concepts . . . and then Wozniak accusing him of not even being on board. Interesting stuff. Thanks.

REthink the whole project and design it in SMD, so that the controller parts are the size of the arduino. Then use cables only for the LED connections. ALl other cable connection can be headers and pins from layer to the next controller level. Or you can develope it with 4 controllers oin one level. The you would have two pcb's fro the led connections. Much better would be to have the electronic parts in SMD on both sides of the pcb and voliá it will be on epBC only. It is possible but a lot of thinkig work. When this ready you can sell it as a complete set with arduino ide, leds, and the controller pcb.
