Still got that belting voice , I saw him at a place in ombersley Worcester supporting / playing with if I remember Herman's hermits and a couple more sixties bands . sometimes a troubled soul and never got the deserved success after the searchers as music changed I am so glad I got to see him that night . he put on a great performance . strange that my parents saw the original line up of the searchers including tony at Birmingham hippodrome in 64 , I saw the two versions of the searchers and tony by himself circa 90-93 twenty fives or so after my parents and low and behold I'm looking at them twenty five years or so later on RUclips ! . so the searchers have been in my family for 55 years ! .rip tony and thanks for the music. PS , I once sang with the searchers ( frank Allen's ) when frank got me up on stage to sing johnny b Goode but that's another story !
@@sixtiesfan007 sorry for late reply. Hi, no it was at a nightclub (remember them lol) called foxes, in foxes Lane Wolverhampton. I remember the tremeloes being on the bill as well, they opened for the searchers. Frank got me up to sing back up on Johnny b goode. Have been in bands for 15 years the past seven my own band and we do a couple of searchers numbers. I managed to get to see the searchers farewell tour last year, the last but one show I think. Quite emotional it turns out!
i was there, had a couple of drinks with Tony before and after the shpw, great guy, got nice autgraphed photo and signed tony jackson album, a great night and one to remember, as you can see had a job getting Tony off stage
Hey Malcolm, what an awesome video! Doubt there is any other footage of this mate, but even if there was don't even think of deleting this! This is truly historic and a very important moment that I am so glad you have shared with us all! THANK YOU!! Great to see Tony back on stage and singing again, with the song that made them all famous. It is a moment that sadly cannot be repeated..luckily for us you caught it.
Dear Malcolm. Thank you sooo much for posting this clip. It was great. in that month of 1992 I had the pleasure of working with Mike in Copehagen. A true gent. Tony is sadly missed. All the best Chimbo Chimbo`s Revival
Was in a 60's band and it took from 1968 to 2007 before our reunion. We didnt have fallouts and still mates today. It was great being on stage together after all those years. We werent professional and on splitting up did our own thing.
I saw Tony join Mike on stage at the civic centre Guildford in October 1992, a great occasion. Sad that Tony & Chris have gone and that Mike no longer performs with John & Frank.
many thanks for the favourable comments. That old video camera was pretty bulky. I'd get stopped a few times in places like Butlins. Now I video bands in HD with a tiny camera that fits in the palm of my hand.
Many thanks for over 17,000 viewings of my video which was shot 22 years ago. See my earlier post for an explanation of the difficulties encountered in videoing performances that long ago. If anybody has a better video of this iconic occasion I will gladly defer to it and delete this video.
I am a big fan and wish i could have seen them at there peak. But i am only 31. I can assure having heard Mike Pender's Searchers and even seen him live alone he was not as good as he was years - Was good to meet him even though he thought i was female, As for other Searchers i seen them live and prefer them and think they have better sound. Each to there own though which band we prefer now
Tony J had a unique voice , different from anyone at the time , can't for the life of me think why Chris Curtis etc wanted him out , all they were doing was shortening their own careers as a top band !
Mike Pender and Tony Jackson didn't fall out and had it not been for Tony's arthritis in his hands back in the 80s he would have been in Mike's band, but then Barrie Cowell stepped in and is still there today.
I dont think athritis was the reason that Tony didnt join Mike Penders Searchers as Tony was playing bass in a reformed Vibrations in the early 90s and there are RUclips clips to prove this. The reason that Tony didnt join with Mike Pender was that he realised that he was just to be an employee of Mike, and not an equal partner in the band. You are right is saying that Mike and Tony didnt fall out though.
@npwd What Searchers hit songs came about without Tony Jackson or Mike Pender, surely people just living off the sound these 2 gentleman on lead vocals provided.
Purely from a nostalgic view this is great it is good to see the mutual feeling they have for each other. For those who did not live at that time in the UK the original Searchers were second only to the Beatles in popularity this was pre Rolling Stones.Brian Epstein thought they were great which says it all.
That was interesting to me. I did see the line up with Tony Jackson a couple of times in the early sixties but I wouldn't have recognised him from this clip. Mike Pender never seemed to change much though. I know these guys mostly fell out with each other but it's a shame that Mike left The Searchers, who I saw just a couple of weeks ago as it was really Mike's voice that carried a lot of their big hits and John McNally and Frank Allens band is so good still.
I have not yet seen Mike Pender's Searcher's although I plan to. I have seen John McNally and Frank Allen's line up and they are very good. They sound like I remember The Searchers and they have now, of course, the polish and the patter.
Nothing against Frank Allen, who was a major contributor to the group, but the Searchers definitely lost something when they lost Tony Jackson. In an interview available on RUclips he blames Chris (Crummy) Curtis. I recall reading that Tony had a rhinopasty ("nose job") shortly after leaving the group. Didn't seem to affect his vocals. A dirty shame he "fell through the cracks" of the 1960s "British Invasion." He certainly deserved more time in the spotlight!
True The searchers have a polished sound but if Tony had joined Mike Pender on a permenant basis they would have had a much more authentic sound being as Tony and Mike were the two main singers on most of there songs. Now if Chris Curtis had joined as well .......
Mike Pender left the Searchers of his own accord and then acted a total arsehole. I don't particularly like Mc Nally's persona as he seems a rather dour and unlikely person to be involved in the world of rock , but he and Frank Allen , who lets face it has been in the band since '64, led the band very well until their retirement . Having seen them and the Pender band, there is imho no comparison , one is a pro outfit the other (this one shown above ) are no better than a thousand semi pro bands in the UK . Tony Jackson was a pretty mediocre bassist and no real loss , Pender shouldn't have left and he and McNally should reconcile their differences before its too late. Obviously Chris is long gone, but in all honesty i think he was the lynchpin that got them noticed in the first place.
to people who knew what really is, was the reason for the fall out of the Searchers please give us fans a difinative at least for the Beatles the world knows
+Kyle Matthew Pedregosa If you buy Mike Pender's book "The Origins of the Searchers and The Search For Myself" you'll be able to read the truth of what actually happened!! :-)
@juanbbien He tried to take the name "The Searchers" with him but two long court battles let Frank & John keep the name, - MPS is very very good but The Searchers, well, talk about watertight, - I have seen them 25 times!
@npwd Mike Penders Searchers are far superior to the present Searchers, Mike keeps it more to the original sound, lets face it he was the searchers. None of this nasal singing as Spencer james does, none of this synth guitar.
Pity Mike and John hadn't stood up for Tony against Chris. After all a drummer can be replaced as was proved, but Tony couldn't be as good as Frank Allen was
It’s great to see these two legends making music together they WERE the Searchers
Tony Jackson is a real voice of The Searchers.
Agreed along with Mike Pender.
there is magic with Mike and Tonys voices together.
I was a young teen in the early 60's and me and my mates were walking round shell-shocked by the pure dynamite of Tony's voice on 'Sweets'..:)
It is nice to see Tony Jackson here. He looks comfurtable in his skin, which he never seemed to in the Old Searchers days.
+una mckillen He was probably being bullied by Chris Curtis who wanted his friend, Frank in the band! :-(
Yea , gays looking out for each other .
Yeah those damn gays! Wish they’d piss off!
Good to see they reunited at least once.
Very happy to watch them singing together on the stage.
Thank you very much for posting this wonderful video!
Great footage. Love the Searchers.

Chris Curtis was deluded if he thinks he was the voice of the Searchers Pender and Jackson were the Searchers
Fantastic video, Malcolm.
The original searchers were great
Tony's vocals are the business on this song.
Cheers Rich for the vid its more than a bit special, Tezza the Manch.............

Mike's book confirms Tony's playing wasn't up to scratch...
@npwd What Searchers hit songs came about without Tony Jackson or Mike Pender, surely people just living off the sound these 2 gentleman on lead vocals provided.
@meteorightnow Chris and Tony never got on - they both confirm it in seperate interviews.
Purely from a nostalgic view this is great it is good to see the mutual feeling they have for each other. Despite the ravages of years of heavy drinking,Tony still looks and sounds good.
Agreed !

You said it best !
Beautiful that Mike & Tony got back togethet if John was aboard with Frank Allen that would have been incredible.

Have I gone deaf in my right ear?
Mike penders searchers @re not as good as frank allen and john mcanally searchers just seen their final tour show and they were fantasic
Toby Jackson WAS the Searchers, Chris Crummy should of left not Tony Crummy was totally lacking in charisma
