Hey thanks alot for posting this video. I got an NWP big bore kit for my makita/dolmar 6401. i've never put a piston or cylinder on anything before, but after watching your video it took me 1.5 hours from start to finish. I've run two tanks of gas through it and it's running great, so i guess you taught me the right way to do things.
thank you so much for your video, with your perfect instructions I was able to rebuild the top end of my 24 year old Husqvarna 51, you saved me hundreds of dollars and gave me a sense of accomplishment ,thanks again Bruce
Hey man great video, I just rebuilt the top end on my husqvarna 51 chainsaw. This video helped my out a lot and made it easier being my first time doing this. Thanks!
@arribanuevoleon try the pin and or bearing from the old one, unfortunately sometimes these chise kits may not be an exact fit unless you were sent a different one, you could always exchange it for another one
Dony hello, I love all the videos you upload are very interesting I am car mechanic and I also like power tools and machinery repair especially chainsaws, thanks for uploading the videos and I hope to upload many more, a greeting from Spain.
Very nice video. I just did the same to my Husqvarna 353 a few days ago. Was not as worn as this one, but enough to make it very hard to start and low on power.
@donyboy73 The moped is running again. First start was ofcourse without exhaust + new piston rings. My dealer saw that the old was worn. Just as normal a bit oil in the Cylinder and piston and a bit to much on the crank so there was a little bit to much oil in the crankcase. Now only i had to put the old exhaust gasket, because i wasn't able to screw the bolt in with new gasket.
An Excellent video on my favorite chainsaw. Have been using mine on my farm since 1999, sill running well. Been thinking it's time to rebuild and run it another 10 years. Thanks for the upload. You are a very good teacher.
@donyboy73 very good ,just having problems tunnings the carb its got the special type of ajusters on it like its got a small v-shaped key hole type like the tool you use in your videos so im goin to switch the carb of a nother homelite with normal flat head ajusters but she runs and has good torqe to pull me being 6ft 3 86kg
@donyboy73 I gonna take out the piston pin tomorrow, because for new rings i need go to the dealer. And i want that they insert the piston into the Cylinder ( before i break more rings ) Installing the Clips back is easy. I dont know if thats possible with an screwdriver. Taking out that is possible, I also can see some scoring on the piston and Cylinder, but i cant feel that by fingers. I used sandpaper to remove Carbon on the top of the piston. But dont forgot the engine is 17 years old.
I have to do this for my Echo CS-530 that seized when a friend didn't add oil to the gas. Where do I buy less expensive parts than OEM? I'm hoping my disassembly won't be too different from your Husqvarna. Have you, by any chance, uploaded a video of this kind of repair for Echo cs-530? Many thanks for your clear presentation!
man that piston is toasty.....i dont know how many countless " mechanics" come to work for us that will try to tune up a burned up saw.....it wastes valuble time and money.....excellent toutorial don
GREAT JOB ! i have a few videos up on engine work that i do for fun. i see you do this for a living - keep up the good work ,this would be helpful for someone rebuilding a little motor.
I am going to be getting into this trade and you are a good teacher, thanks Donyboy73 I will try to rebuild my dads old chainsaw with your help thanks.
I have acquired a Husqvarna 55 that I'm having trouble adjusting the carb. I've replaced all the lines and rebuilt the carb, mostly by watching your vids, thx! I have replaced the seal on the crank side but am unsure about tearing into the sprocket side to replace that seal. Do you have any videos on doing this? Great videos, very good instructions.
I got a 55 Air Injection. Great saw!! Keep it clean frequently. I use Lucas Semi-Synthetic oil in a 91 Octane Non ethanol gas. Hope I never have to tear the bugger down.
When Toke the head off carbon on top of the piston and look inside cylinder some by plug inside screw in . Other that looked ok . I put new cylinder head and piston . Also new carb . Spray starting fluid start right up but shut off . Got new gas filter . What else could I check ? Does carb come all preset ? What check next do you know?
I have that same saw, runs good until i put it ot a log then it bogs right down like it is going to stall. I clean the carb, changed gas and spark plug and cleand air filter. Any ideas are welcome...Thanks Great vids and keep them coming
My 1998 55 Rancher left carburetor bolt keeps working out. If I saw right from this video, those bolts don't actually thread into the block but just plastic intake assembies, right?
I hope this helps for me, because i have to install new rings on a Tomos A35 engine. 1 ring broke in pieces while putting the piston back in to the cylinder
Thanks for the video. I pulled my 55 apart and could not believe the piston ring was also fused to the piston. I did not think it was really that bad. The new top end just came in the mail from, wait for it....China.
+J. Van Dyk Done! I rebuilt the carb and the top end for under $100., and it started on the third pull. Donyboy 73, my hat is off to you, sir. Thank you!
Wow! Has it already been 8 years? Well it sounds like it is time to rebuild it one more time. Glad you did not take down this video! Let you know how it turns out.
donyboy73 When I took the new head out of the box I noticed that there was a place for the release valve which the 50 doesn't have. Can I plug that with a bolt?
Hey donyboy73. Every now and then I get a chainsaw that's really hard to pull. The pull rope is really jerky, and seems to hang up, break free, hang up, break free, etc. With the plug out they pull really easy. It's not flooding or a clogged exhaust port, or the recoil mechanism. They have great compression and everything seems fine. What the hell causes this? I know it's not normal compression that causes this. I also know the flywheel key is not sheared because I always check. I work on a lot of chainsaws but I get one like this about once every two months and have no idea what causes this.
hi Dony, finally i rebuilt my husqvarna 55 following your videos, everything is working good, but i found one pawl starter broken, i already take the flywheel off but i have no idea how to change the pawl, could you tell me what type of tool need to remove it. thank you again
I inherited a Husqvarna 55 from my grandfather. I started to clean it up last weekend and found it to be in great shape overall, except the area inside the chainbrake cover was scorched. The brake would not disengage. After taking the handle apart I saw there was a spring that had broken. I went ahead and ordered a used brake assembly I found on ebay due to the overall burn damage around the brake ring. Cost me $40. Now I have a good brake and the old one full of good parts should I ever need them. To replace the spring would have cost me 5 or 6 bucks, but the cover was so burnt up I didn't want to chance it causing more problems down the road. Only thing I can figure is that he ran it without chain oil at some point or let the area get too clogged with sawdust. Any ideas what else could have caused this area to burn?
I need to order top end for my Husqvarna 55, I have removed the Spark Plug and it is real visible that it has been burned out. Could you please let me know where you ordered the parts mentioned in this clip. Web site where I can order these parts (the top end). Thanks, great videos.
Say don I have a Husqvarna 61, bought it used. I need a new clutch, looks like the last owner tightened the clutch to tight and broke the center out of the nut that acts as a stop on the end of the crankshaft to keep the drum from impacting the oil pump and crankshaft seal. Any idea where I could find one that does not cost allot? Looked on EBay, all I can find is a clutch that does not have the center stop built into the nut.
Worked great, one summer later and the engine seems to be running too hot again... that led to the last misfortune. Could it be sugar in the gas tank or can it only be monkeying with the carb high idle sets? I'm thinking I can block the ends off the carb set channels temporarily with silicone if that's my easier solution. Any thoughts?
Hi Donyboy73, long time listener of your videos about chainsaws specifically. I have recently received a Husqvarna 340 from my grandparent. I took it apart, and almost everything is O.K but my safety throttle is stuck down. Could you make a short vid on taking the gas tank apart and showing those parts? Or any help is much appreciated!
if i got a lot of carbon in my Tecumseh motor can i loose compression and when i did a compression test it gave me a 85psi reading and when i added oil i got a 105psi reading what does that mean bad rings?
Have you done a rebuild on a Husky 350 x-torq? I picked up a trade-in saw that has the bar bolts starting to pull through the case (previous owner over tightened the bar). The rest of the saw is in good condition. Any thoughts to fix this?
Just picked up a used 51 from a friend, now know where to start, Thanx Donyboy!
Hey thanks alot for posting this video. I've run two tanks of gas through it and it's running great, so i guess you taught me the right way to do things.
I would recommend giving the whole saw a good cleaning with an compressed air hose before taking anything apart.
thank you so much for your video, with your perfect instructions I was able to rebuild the top end of my 24 year old Husqvarna 51, you saved me hundreds of dollars and gave me a sense of accomplishment ,thanks again Bruce
@spelunkerd thanks, i really tookmy time on this series, part 2 tommorrow
Wow. Your demonstrations and camerawork are outstanding.
Namaste.
Hey man great video, I just rebuilt the top end on my husqvarna 51 chainsaw. This video helped my out a lot and made it easier being my first time doing this. Thanks!
Hope your 51 does well. Getting a kit for my 51 rebuild. Do you have a recommendation?
You have inspired my brother & I to open up a small shop at my home Don
@arribanuevoleon try the pin and or bearing from the old one, unfortunately sometimes these chise kits may not be an exact fit unless you were sent a different one, you could always exchange it for another one
Dumb question, why wouldn't you at least blow off the crap before you expose any internal parts of the saw ?
Dony hello, I love all the videos you upload are very interesting I am car mechanic and I also like power tools and machinery repair especially chainsaws, thanks for uploading the videos and I hope to upload many more, a greeting from Spain.
@sscustoms100 u can cut slots in the screw with a dremel to use a flat screwdriver
Really nice video. my 55 has just died after 16 years of hard work and your video is exactly the problem I have. Nice work
Very nice video. I just did the same to my Husqvarna 353 a few days ago. Was not as worn as this one, but enough to make it very hard to start and low on power.
@backwoodsctryboy thanks man, yes many people don't realize when the top is burned.
Really good lighting and audio for this video. First class.
@daand12 if you remove them carefully usually you can reuse them
@donyboy73 The moped is running again. First start was ofcourse without exhaust + new piston rings. My dealer saw that the old was worn. Just as normal a bit oil in the Cylinder and piston and a bit to much on the crank so there was a little bit to much oil in the crankcase. +allamakee1397 thanks
@MARROCATEL thank you, part 2 tommorrow
that saw looks good to work on. briliant vids thanks
Thanks for the video! Helped me rebuild mine with no issue at all:)
We have enjoyed every one of your Videos

@tenchidbz thanks for watching
Nice video. Seems better to clean it before disassembly?
Hi there, do you have a video to do the same piston rebuild on a Husqvarna 61 saw? Your videos are the best a...
I am going to be getting into this trade and you are a good teacher, thanks Donyboy73 I will try to rebuild my dads old chainsaw with your help thanks.
you're welcome
Excellent, best video showing linkage! Thanks
Another great video!! Thank you again. 👍👍
Followed your videos and what able to rebuild my Husqvarna 55 without an problem. This was my first time rebuilding a small engine. Thanks
nice to hear that!
Great videos, very good instructions.
not yet, I would have to see your saw to give you proper advice
@zigZag776 yes sometimes i wear nitrile gloves
@xxtruckin93xx well since its that old you should clean out the carbon anyway, but that doesnt always cause low compression, it could be bad rings
Thanks, very good instructions and camara work.
I got a 55 Air Injection. Great saw!! Keep it clean frequently. I use Lucas Semi-Synthetic oil in a 91 Octane Non ethanol gas. Hope I never have to tear the bugger down.
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
A beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Thank you for posting great help in doing my 55
Congratulations! It was a very helpful videoThanks
@ibspuds this one was from ebay

if it's not for commercial use they are not bad but try to get it NIKASIL plated
I have that same saw, runs good until i put it ot a log then it bogs right down like it is going to stall. I clean the carb, changed gas and spark plug and cleand air filter. Any ideas are welcome...Thanks
Great vids and keep them coming
usually neglect and carbon, i will be posting a video soon on that subject
yes I believe they fit
I like how he says remove fuel and oil at the end. lol I wonder if people actually forgot that.
My 1998 55 Rancher left carburetor bolt keeps working out. If I saw right from this video, those bolts don't actually thread into the block but just plastic intake assembies, right?
Do you have a video on a husqvarna 455 big bore kit
I hope this helps for me, because i have to install new rings on a Tomos A35 engine. 1 ring broke in pieces while putting the piston back in to the cylinder
Nice job!
Great video man... Very informative!!
Thanks for posting this! May I use top end parts for a Husqvarna 55 to rebuild my Husqvarna 51 saw?
Is it possible to upgrade my 50 rancher with this top end Donny
Thanks for the video. I pulled my 55 apart and could not believe the piston ring was also fused to the piston. I did not think it was really that bad. The new top end just came in the mail from, wait for it....China.

@sscustoms100 how's ur bike project coming?
what parts do you need for a husqvarna 141 chainsaw engine rebuild and where do i buy the parts
checkout www.discountonlineparts.com
have you any videos of stihl weedwacker repairs(we call them strimmers here in britain)
@donyboy73 nah i cant its resesed into the carb so i would end up cutting into the carb body .i guess i have to switch carbys
what would be your opinion that when a piston is scored you can see it on the exhaust side?Because both good and bad gases always escape or how?
I have a husqvarna 50 and was wondering if I would go through the same steps to replace the head.
yes pretty well identical
donyboy73
When I took the new head out of the box I noticed that there was a place for the release valve which the 50 doesn't have. Can I plug that with a bolt?
Jeffrey Goldsmith has to be short
i'll have to look at a flywheel in my shop, please remind me in a week if i have not responded back

same here. i just got a stihl ms250 and a husqvarna 55 in my shop at the same time and i can't seem to fix them
Can it be the clutch wheel or sprocket whom has a scoring, or starts bogging out?.. seizes up the free run of chain..?
@daand12 part 2 tommorrow
Is there a good way to plug the intake side for a pressure test on the rancher 55? I suspect there is a leak somewhere. Leans out in the cut.
hi Dony, finally i rebuilt my husqvarna 55 following your videos, everything is working good, but i found one pawl starter broken, i already take the flywheel off but i have no idea how to change the pawl, could you tell me what type of tool need to remove it.

sometimes they run them with brake on and the clutch gets extremely hot

@wheely132 part 2 tommorrow
also i removed the circlips with a screwdriver. Just few seconds work. Do i need to put new circlips?
Great video , Donyboy, on that saw , how do you lube the grease bearing?
thanks for making this video
Just wondering I have noticed you never clean or blow away all the dirt and garbage before you pull engine apart. Can u explain why?
just got a cordless 1/4" impact
50 rancher var bende karbüratör bulunmuyor temizleme video su yayinlayin.yedek parça nasıl temin edilir.
What size are the 4 allen head bolts that hold cylinder down?
4 mm allen bolts. Most are 4 mm on these Husqvarna saws. You can find a few 3 mm allen bolts as well.
@workensmart i'm not sure what hapenned to this saw
@atkwayzata thanks for the tips
if my cylindar has no compression port can I put one in with one and still put the cover on ?
+Ray Dolbec you should, you may have to make a hole for the decomp valve
+donyboy73 Thanks
where are you from
Simple question. Why don't you do a quick clean up (blow the loose bits off with compressed air), before you remove the carb and cylinder ?
does the 51 Husqvarna have a decompression valve?
many thanks, very helpful video:-)
where did you find the chinese rebuild kit?
Worked great, one summer later and the engine seems to be running too hot again... that led to the last misfortune. Could it be sugar in the gas tank or can it only be monkeying with the carb high idle sets? I'm thinking I can block the ends off the carb set channels temporarily with silicone if that's my easier solution. Any thoughts?
I'm on my third cylinder with minimal actual time on the saw.
And a new saw is no solution to vandalism.
Air leak
Why number in mm allen key using to unscrew screw in cylinder in video? And if you know why screw number is going to husqwarna 61 Yugoslavia model?
how much do you carge for the labor?
So if a chainsaw "dies" you can rebuild it?
what is it called?and thank you
