As someone from Africa, this is such a milstone for all of us, our music, our sound is being represented on a global stage by An African. Im glad she kept to her roots instead of going for a more commercialized typical sound, i just hope the world will be more open to hearing us
It was a great reaction and the vibes were fun and authentic, I think overall the album was great and celebrates the diversity of the different sounds that come from us, thank you for being so open to other perspectives
I am definitely going to give it another spin and do another video soon. I don’t hate the album, but I think I just wanted more elements. At least a more robust vocal, you know?
@@gooonicorn Yes! I agree, I wanted more vocally from her, hopefully she does more vocally when she goes on tour &/ or on her next project. Idk if you've heard of the song "Been Thinking" by her, but it was supposed to be on the album, but didn't make the cut. Thats how a lot of earlier fans like myself found out about her lol.
Well she is an Amapiano Queen that is her genre .She will give you variation on her next successful album .Let her enjoy her culture .Amapiano is taking the world by storm
You’re right. I’m sure on her next “successful album,” we’ll see her grow and expand. I’m still going to enjoy this one the more it grows on me though.
I think as an introduction to her and the popiano (amapiano-pop) genre she’s trying to push, it’s great. Since the genre isn’t really a thing, she’s trying to establish it and by pushing similar elements that make it easily identifiable, she’s made a smart choice there. I think that’s one of the reasons she’s not been too experimental as she can’t stray far so early. She also focuses on the chill side of amapiano which for South Africans is very calm and doesn’t necessarily need a climax but that back to back can be boring so I get that. More interesting production and vocal choices could have definitely be made, but I think the light airy sound is within her vocal capabilities and her signature. It’s not a bad album at all but it’s more of a foundation for something bigger she’s trying to establish for me. I like it but there’s that *thing* that could make it great. Thanks for the review lol. It’s a grower for some and I think circling back and listening to it in isolation and not back to back can make it seem less boring. 🫶
Thank you for your comment. I appreciate you offering your perspective with love and that will be the only kind I’m responding to from now on. 🫶🏾 Also, after relistening to the album it has grown on me quite a bit.
I love her sound, and I was surprised of how many of the songs she wrote herself! Oh yes Tyla is here to stay she’s the force behind her own machine, she is the machine! love that for her
First of all, this is album is amazing, im glad Tyla kept her sound, it's a debut album (mainly) to a new audience, look at it as an introduction, she can't be introducing herself by not being herself (sounding like the people you mentioned) Secondly if Tyla did include "variations " (sounds that you want to hear) a lot of yall would be criticizing her saying she sounds like everyone 🤷🏾♂️ Expecting her to do transitions like Beyonce did with renaissance is crazy because Bey was following her creative pattern, Tyla did too At the end of the day you have to give her credit because your intial reaction was not what you expected because you had your own expectations and ideas of how you wanted it to sounds, personally i LOVE the album its been on repeat since release ❤
I think a lot of people criticizing this album need to be honest and if they don’t appreciate things that are deeply cultural, they should leave it alone.
as her fan, you should maybe encourage folks who don’t understand it to give it another try instead of just making wild generalizations about them. Thank you for the view though. Appreciating the album more I listen to it.
I love this album and I love her vibe she’s creating her own sound and her own fanbase and I’m here for it. The last artist that had me this excited was SZA. I think she has the potential to build a loyal fanbase, as a new artist I think she’s doing well and better than other female new artists we’ve been introduced to over the last 5 years. I think the live performances for these songs could really give the album the elevation it needs if she gets a good band that can remix her music well enough it could be a game changer
@@gooonicornI think her live performances will be where she can really bring this album to life and give it that elevation it needs to turn these songs from radio bops to proper live stage performances to prove that she really did deserve that grammy
Your review is one of the best reviews I’ve seen so far. You seem so unbiased & look at Tyla for her music instead of the entire brand. One thing I’ve noticed too is how something seems to be missing: It feels like she is relying on too much the work of the producer to make her songs fire. I personally feel like I need her music to be more maximalist, have range, harmony, layering of vocals etc And I think the problem is that she is a singer transitioning into an artist, whereas some artists today have such strong voice that you cannot deny that they were born for to make music & that was the vibes I got from track No.1 where Tems took over. After hearing that I had to go quickly listen to Tems again. Came back and found the rest of Tyla’s songs very repetitive & not true to the maximalist sound of dance amapiano at all. There is this thing where if an artist does not have strong vocals, they have to make up for it with looks, branding and dancing and I feel like Tyla should lean into that. A combination of her personal brand & the dancing performance on stage.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!! it’s the perfect album to listen to whil echilling and doing stuff around the house, or dancing to while you got a few friends over. Its a awesome album! NOT everything has to have a damn crazy mixes and americanised flare RnB with ratchet lyrics, and explicit lines every five seconds. thats what society today has become use to it’s getting tiring. SOMETIMES its nice to have peices of musical art today that you can play while parents are around or younger siblings and cousins that’s apprpoirate for everuone to enjoy. . SHE is from a different country and culture. NOT everyone has to try and apeal to the american audiance. The poeple who get it GET it the people who don’t, don’t. PLENTY of people love her music enough for her to go further in her career.
See, you’re making points, but all of the unnecessary American “ratchet” talk is showing your colors. I commended her on her use of sexual innuendo. I said loud and clear “bring that back!” I didn’t like the album on first listen. My little opinion is not going to make or break her, baby. Lol I truly hope she is the next girl up. Lastly, if you ever come back, come back correct. We’re here to have fun convos about music. Keep it fun. 🙏🏿🧡

The only reaction with negativity towards the album 😂 everyone Ive seen love it throughout. Maybe this is not for you or you just not the target group 😂😂
That's not true besides the reviews that were obviously paid reviews a lot of ppl felt the songs sounded the same and that it was boring. Why yall lie?
So negative and sour. This is a great album and you just exposed your lack of understanding of genre and Amapiano music. Why are you even listening if you don't like Amapiano😵💫
I judged this album how i judge most albums. There are exceptions. But usually, I want peaks and valleys. After sitting with the album for the last few months I found the nuance. I reeeeeally love it. One of the best debuts in a very long time.
I actually believe that Your ear is looking for drama, storms and shocks. You are looking for rnb. I understand the issue of diversity because it sounds the same to an untrained ear.
I really need to upload my revisit of this album so y’all can leave me alone lol. Her music has a story u should listen to what she says and how she introduces herself
I’m absolutely going to relisten to it. It’s kinda why I hate doing first day reactions because It’s hard to digest it all in one setting.

The Caribbean 😂 is wild. She's SA. But I see where you were going
I said “Motherland,” as well. I know she’s not Caribbean. Lol
