  • The original promo. When the single started to take off, a new promo was made (by others) on Hampstead Heath. Part of it was even shown on Top of the Pops. But this one - the original - remains obscure.

    I was lucky enough to get to see them play 4-5 times during their 'Seaside' stuff days. Reason.? they were the best frikkin' live (unknown) band playing the UK during the 1980's, no one else came close. (imho)

      I did front of house sound for them at the Marquee Club in Wardour Street, circa 1986. Amazing performance. Just wish I'd made a recording from my sound desk.

    Aha! This was at a time when, to try and liven up the charts (and the programme) they introduced a section where they made reference to other tracks that were the highest movers in other charts (e.g indie, dance etc), and therefore possibly bound for the main charts in the coming weeks. They showed a clip of around 15 seconds or so.

    All I say is, wow.

    There's one other video I remember which I haven't seen on RUclips, which was filmed in black and white in an abandoned factory where some members of the band were on some kind of flat bed lift that moved backward and forward. This was my favourite video for this song, but it appears to be lost, as far as the Internet is concerned, at any rate.

    Nirvana (not the band, the state of mind) specification songs are as rare as hens teeth but I saw them in 1987 full of lysergic acid diethylamide and have neer been the same since. Tim has the ability to make his music transend the listener into pastures of total glory.

    I was obsessed by Cardiacs at this time, and I am sure my memory is not deceiving me. Is there anyone else out there in RUclipsland who can corfirm whether or not Cardiacs were ever on TOTP (albeit on video for 15 secs)?!;)

    • @Ursulauu
      @Ursulauu 4 года назад

      Sadly not - they never made the Top 40 unfortunately. They did feature on The Tube a couple of times though. 🖤

      @@Ursulauu Brief five second clips of this track were played on The Chart Show when it was going up (and down) the indie chart - you can find one such example here: ruclips.net/video/Ztd65Zo9WD4/видео.html

    No prob. Cardiacs are often demanding and tiring to listen to because there's sooo many melodies and arrangements in just one song, it demands intense attention just to follow what's going on. It helps if you have heard the songs several times, you already sort of know what'll happen and there's layers and layers of music in there... but they can be extremely restless and nervous sometimes so I can't blame you at all. Try 'march', a brilliant song, you might like that too...

    @pontello3 Very sadly, no. As you may know now, guitarist/singer Tim Smith is a poorly chap these days. Last August, Cardiacs officially stated that they were very likely not to return. Sad times indeed - sending bestest wishes to Tim for a full recovery.

    Religious atheist hymns. I have never in my live been so much beyond and out of my mind than at the concert of the Cardiacs in 1989.

    Gehenna (or anyone for that matter) do you have a recording of the gig at The Venue with Poisoned Electric Head in support...think it was like a day event with Credit to the Nation and Zu Zu petals? Was my first gig and would love to see it on film :)

  • @Bansidhe
    @Bansidhe 13 лет назад

    @pontello3 It's similair but I wouldn't say it's copied. It's just because it's a pedal tone thing with the droning D string. Billy Duffy (guitarist in The Cult) does a lot of that type of thing.

  • @amartinblueplanet

    This band is so d - - n good! How did I miss these guys? I was all over English rock, and playing myself during this period. Someone has some explaining to do.

    • @shayneoneill1506
      @shayneoneill1506 10 лет назад +6

      amartinblueplanet I think the music industry in general tripped over its own shoelaces when it came to this band. For some fucked up scenester reason the NME and its imitators hated them and never gave them coverage, and when they finally got signed the record company (for unrelated reasons) tanked. So they didn't tour far and only self released records for most of the time. Greatest local geezer band of all time really. Bloody shame, Cardiacs could have ruled the world.

    • @Twonko
      @Twonko 5 лет назад +3

      Likewise. I even went out with a woman in the mid eighties who was all over them and went to see them loads of times. I never got it. I'm so ashamed.

    This, by the way, is their weakest track.
    They see it the same way.
    It still has the mind drilling element.
