When it comes to Leons name it wasn't even Nomuras idea. I have no idea why you're blaming him for decisions out of his control. He wanted to incorporate more than just Final Fantasy but celebrate all of Square Enix. Ava from Parasite Eve was going to be in KH1 but they changed it. Completely not Nomuras fault when these weird decisions happen. There's Disney and Square Enix breathing dowm his neck as he does this series. He can only do so much.
How can it be that there isn't a 13,900 word essay about Zack? :(

Biggs and Wedge are also explicitly Star Wars references. Many many aspects of Final Fantasy are directly inspired by Star Wars. That's why FF12 story is unironically the Empire Strikes Back. Lots of fantasy sci-fi vehicles like mechs and speeders. The vague mysticism involving light and dark. It's all Star Wars. That's why they always have the chosen one be some simple farm boy with a hidden past. That's exactly like Luke.
Examples: Cloud, Terra, Zidane, Tidus.
Really look at Roxas and really look at Luke.
I cant believe you missed the most important crossover. Lightning appears in Re:Coded's multiplayer mode. You even made a joke about a "lightning round".
Also, I'd like to point out that Auron unlike all the other FF characters is his actual FF self in KH2. Nomura in most interviews mentions the FF characters arent the literal same as the originals. Theyre just people who look similar and have the same name. Auron on the otherhand, Nomura has outright said is the FFX character due to the underworld and the farplane being connected.
A lot of Nomura's more baffling decisions regarding FF can actually be explained with interviews and other media. For example Leon's backstory as to why he doesnt go by squall anymore is in the KH1 manga(any extended KH media nomura is heavily involved with making this backstory most likely canon)
I never touched the Re:Coded multiplayer in my life lmao. Also didn’t know that tidbit about Auron either. Thanks. I did know about the whole Leon situation in the manga but it still baffles me why that decision was made at all.
