@@steven95N Depending on how much they can salvage from her wrecked hull, the second one should be finished relative fast. They have most of the wings, everything aft of the wings and the nose cone. Still a shame after 20 years flying extreme cargo around the world. Here is hoping they can then get both birds finished, one via salvage of parts of the wrecked one & one via repayment, so they can fix her wrecked and dismantled hull.
Damn! That’s sad! Hopefully they try and rebuild it. I’m certain people would donate millions. Anything for a victory in Ukraine 🇺🇦. They would have lots a support worldwide.
When I arrived in Santiago de Chile (SCL) from Rapa Nui (IPC) in November 2016, our plane was moved to the apron southeast of Terminal 1 since we arrived earlier than scheduled and no available gate. As we disembarked the plane, some of the passengers including me were stunned to see An-225 parked on taxiway near Runway 35R. The An-225 was so huge and a sight to behold! We ignored the ground staff who tried to direct us to the buses while we took photos of the plane. Some of the airport employees also stopped by to take photos. This has been a very majestic experience for me to see the aviation equivalent of unicorn!
I saw it at Farnborough in 1990. It was extraordinary. The undercarriage remained down for the duration of the display - and what an undercarriage! It flew very low overhead, and I had never seen so many wheels on a plane. It is truly and amazing machine, and I feel privileged to have seen it fly from such a close vantage point.
Like Tyrese would say in a movie about a massive plane: "That's not a plane, that's a f***** planet!" I think we all agree that this would be at top of the bucket list of many (if not all) plane spotters and aviation enthusiasts. If in Venezuela we were shocked at seeing the A380 from HiFly came and landed at SVMI in all her massive glory, I can't imagine how would anybody would feel about the An-225. It's truly impressive!
During the 2013 Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda crisis in the Philippines, the An-225 brought a generator to Mactan-Cebu International Airport to help with the rebuilding efforts.
I have seen the An-124 but never seen Mriya, would love to. Thankfully she will be flying until 2033 so I may have time to get this out of my bucket list
I’ve seen a couple of 124s, but Singapore Changi isn’t big enough I don’t think to handle the bigger brother. I wish she and I will rendezvous one day, it’s such a sight to watch it in action. Just a suggestion Long Haul team, how about covering high profile aviation disasters or corporate mishaps? I’m really interested to learn more about the 787s recent production difficulties and moving production to SC seems to be a recipe for trouble given it’s track record. Other topics that can potentially be covered include, the Rolls Royce Trent 1000 turbine/compressor blade fiasco, DC-10 Cargo door of the 70s, 787 battery fires, maybe some other major ones that went unnoticed? I’d love to have some content surrounding that kind of genre!
Is Dmytro Antonio somehow related to the company/founder? I just feel so bad for that guy, his eyes lit up talking about that plane. I’m glad there’s a second one partially built.
If you still are not aware of what happened Russia bombed the hangar in which the an225 stood in which caused it to erupt in flames and get destroyed along with 3 other antoves which were a An22 and 2 an124s
I remember being told (many years ago), during a particularly turbulent flight, that one of the key safety design components of passenger airplanes is that the fuselage (the dead weight) sits *on top of* the wing structure (which provides the lift), rather than hanging beneath it. If so, as the An-225 isn't designed the same way, and with it's immense weight (especially fully loaded), that seems like it might be an issue. Is it?
She's a real beauty, there's been nothing like her in aviation history and there never will be either so we really need to get one flying again. I'm hoping that Antonov can complete the one that hasn't been destroyed by the Russians, in my opinion that was done deliberately as it's a World famous symbol of the Ukrainian people...... that was why the Russian military targeted her. Why else would they target an innocent aircraf???
OMG, here we go. And this is why I don't subscribe. You say "aircraft" but you should be saying "airplane". Why? 'Cause you're wrong. So wrong. The largest, and longest "aircraft" is the Luftschiffbau Zeppelin LZ129 Hindenburg at 803 ft 7 in. Although the An-225 is heavier. Yes I know Hindenburg is a "lighter than air" airship, but it's still and "aircraft". You guys have to watch your nomenclature and do your research better.
Rest in Peace you legend.. We'll never see something like this again.
The Ukrainians are already planning on finishing the second hull after the war which currently stands at 50-60% completion, possibly re-engined.

They should have moved it out of country. Why didn’t they think of the risks. I sure did before the invasion.

I've seen it once in person and its crazy how big it is, a Q400 was Taxing beside it and the size comparison was crazy
Lol.
@@sethtan715 the Q400 pilot probably shat himself when he saw the '225 beside him
Best "Long Haul" video yet. Love the content and the form factor.
Today marks the end of this magnificent aircrafts story.

That sounds awesome!!!
Had a relatively similar experience with an An-124 in Mombasa
Oh wow you visited rapa nui 🗿 , AND saw the 225?! Wow!
Wow🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
RIP GIANT

Thank you very much, especially also for including Dmytro Antonov - his RUclips Channel is really worth to watch it!

great video SF team ! tells the whole story. thank you !
Wondering if AN225 re-engined with 4x Trent-XWB-97 or 6x GEnx-2B 🛫🤓
It's a proven air-frame - more powerful engines would be a good call!
6* GE90 would be a choice
@@Amorousstake4 ouw..no...your dreams will turn it into C-17 STOL capability with huge crack after landing with MLW 🛫😅
We need more power for a giant aircraft
@@Amorousstake4 too big and too much. If you want GE90, then 4 engines will be logical.
How delightful, thank you for the great informative video 😊
I absolutely enjoyed the visuals of planes instead of text. Keep it up.
RIP to the legend

Not so long ago Mirya flew to Chimoré (Bolivia) carrying a gas turbine I think, it was awesome to see it in the Amazonia 🙂

Saw Mrya in Perth in 2019. Excellent experience
Well sadly that aircraft is gone
If you still are not aware of what happened Russia bombed the hangar in which the an225 stood in which caused it to erupt in flames and get destroyed along with 3 other antoves which were a An22 and 2 an124s
Russia better pay for the rebuild/repair

I saw the Antonov 225 at Manchester Airport once.
I would imagine the AN-225 will be with us, for a long time. We will see more awesome action of the giant aircraft. :)
Well not a long time
Well this didn’t age well

I remember on 13th May 2016, An-225 made its first landing in India at GMR Hyderabad International Airport.
Rest In Peace Mriya. We will remember and cherish you forever.

It carried special pumps for the mission of Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011 in Japan.
Rest in pieces 😞
The An-225 rest zone is as big as someone’s house!
Sad day for the 225 🥺🇺🇦
Random idea: Add a 737's fuselage at the top to add more cargo space.
They should do a quick redesign of this aircraft with just 4 GE90s, lighter materials, updated avionics & folding wings.
I didn't even know Oman had a military airfield big enough for the 225
I hope they complete the unfinished An-225. May the original one rest in peace....
