  • Testing my ice chest air conditioner on a hot, humid day over a period of 7 hours.
Notes: The cooler was holding 35 lbs of ice and one gallon of water.
The actual outdoor temperature in the shade according to my infrared thermometer was 105 degrees (temp sensor under intake grill was in direct sun for a period, indicating 111). Humidity was 70% average.
The cooler was not moved or opened during the test. The camera was removed from the tripod and brought inside between takes.

WOW !!! So, you're saying that this thing ran continuously for 7 hours (and could've run longer) with no need to: change the batter ... or ... add more ice ... or ... drain the water??? Amazing.
I'm thinking that this would be a great solution for a small airplane. Cheers, Chuck (NE Florida) : +)

I am looking into building one of these myself and would appreciate info on battery life using these high powered fans and a pump on just one battery. In my research this is not capable on a single battery alone, especially the one of the size I see in your lid. One battery for about 2AH maybe depending on your amp draw but not for much longer than that with out plugin it in. Love the video and am using a lot of your design for mine but will be going with a AC to DC 12v convertor for anything lasting over 2 hours of use.

Hello, I used a 12Ah battery for this test but I was utilizing a 24V pump which pulls approximately 1.5 amps less than the more powerful 12V pumps I am now using. Total amp draw for my dual blower units, both cooler-based like the one in this video, and my Blowbox TWIN models is 7.5 amps between blowers and pump. With this same 12Ah battery I would expect a runtime of approximately 5 - 5. 25 hours.

I saw you had 35 pounds of ice in cooler. How many gallons of water did you initially put in to get water pump circulating cold water through the system?

For this test, it took 2 gallons to cover the pump. If I had done it right and used all blocks, it would have taken approximately half that amount and my duration would have been longer.
It's important to note that I always use refrigerated water. Tap water will immediately take out a third of the ice.

These are not good for cooling larger volumes of air because they are too inefficient to overcome heat radiating through roof and especially windows in high temps. These need to be in your general area blowing toward you to provide effective cooling.
