Hello, I am a blind, audio engineer, and I wish I knew the exact parameters you placed on each thing is there any chance that you can send me the presets so I can apply and tweak it as I go or can you just tell me what your place for recover and so forth it would really help me. Thank you so much. And by the way, amazing video.
Wow, why thank you! That means the world to me. So glad you enjoyed! Feel free to check out my other spectral correction videos! Thanks so much for watching, and cheers!
Why, thank you so much! I really appreciate that. I just got the update yesterday, and it is extremely clean and subtle; perfect for mastering! It's really cool how they've made it a 3-in-1 EQ now! Thanks for watching!
@@palebluedotstudiosI like getting the mastering as good as I can then I slap gullfoss on and I like to A/B it and almost always it gives a little more clarity and helps to tame resonance and frequency build up since it's analyzing it in real time.
Always a pleasure to see what brilliant minds have come up with! Part of the process I've developed uses a variant of this technique - however, the primary steering uses a form of parametric EQ steered by relative amplitudes of nearby & harmonically related content. Very heavy computationally. Looks like Gullfoss may be easier on the CPU load than what my workstations need to put up with - although there isn't as much going on with Gullfoss, either. What it does it appears to do well. Nice tool.
Thanks for your comments! That sounds like an intriguing setup you have over there. Gullfoss does indeed have some highly computational stuff going on under the hood. Some more info here: www.mixonline.com/blog/gullfoss-inventor-andreas-tell-tells-all
Ive got Ozone, Smart eq 3, TDR NOVAS, Smooth Operator, what would you suggest next Gullfoss or Soothe? I generally only do simple acoustic and vocal tracks or instrumentals
I think if you're looking at mainly correcting instruments, I'd go with soothe2 for this. Gullfoss is mainly targeted at mastering, and soothe2 gives you more control over the processing. Cheaper alternatives to look at: Wavesfactory Equalizer and Techivation M-Clarity. Very good plugins that sound great, right out of the box. thanks for much for watching! Cheers!
It's a single from my old band, Arkana. We're not on streaming right now, working on remastering and I'll slap links when they're out. Thanks for your interest!
Soundtheory is such a great company srsly. Like - they're not like: Gullfoss Mastering edition is so good it could be a separate plugin but NO. You don't have to pay extra for 2 additional plugins. Love em. Truly genius developers and non-asshole company.
also 200 dollars - that does not leave them much room for playing around with people. THat's how it should be... Even with discount 130 bucks - all of that need to be included, and updates for LIFE!
So worried, what should I put first in my mix bus? Will putting one in front of the other mess things up? Or should soothe 2 always go first before gullfoss?? And is spiff anything like gulfoss? Where should I throw in spiff if I do use gulfoss and soothe 😂 new to mixing but absolutely love it.
So glad you're loving mixing! If you're new to mixing, I would recommend using soothe 2 lightly, and only when you hear bad frequencies. If you're using it with Gullfoss, I'd use Gullfoss after soothe 2 for final EQ balancing (but generally speaking, it's a bad sign if you need to use both). Spiff is a different beast: it's main job is working with transients, i.e. you can make your drums punchier. I would not bother with Spiff while you're learning. You've probably got a decent transient designer in your DAW. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers!
Thank you for the comparison! Do you think for most use cases, gullfoss will do the trick for fixing upper mid harshness on guitars and vocals just as well (or comparable) to soothe?
You’re very welcome! I think Gullfoss is ideal for fixing harshness, whereas soothe2 would be more for resonant frequencies, but there is a lot of overlap in features here. Try the demos if you can, but Gullfoss is a great choice for overall harshness!
@@palebluedotstudios thank you so much - that clarification helps a ton. I am already eyeballs deep in using surgical EQ to kill resonances (and have the dynamic option with Pro Q 3), so gullfoss might actually be the better time saver for me right now. Obviously when I'm ready to shorten my workflow on surgical EQ, I can make the leap to soothe :D
@@lyteside Glad I can help! It's a really tough call sometimes, because these intelligent EQs share a lot of DNA. Gullfoss is VERY transparent though, so yeah, I think that is the right choice. I think it's on sale right now too...yep! 35% off! www.soundtheory.com/home
@@techreviewz87 oh of course! That, and I hate the plague of just building up an endless assortment of plugins - it just slows me down sometimes. After some research, just seems I'm gonna get more bang for my buck with gullfoss. They are both time saving tools for me (not magic plugins), so just prioritizing which one will save me the most time :)
I am a blind engineer, and I cannot follow along, would love to know each parameter which you place so I could put it on my master Bus and tweak it as I go or if you can send me the preset it would be so helpful. Thank you so much✌️
That's really good to know! This reminds me that I should make my content more clear, especially for people who only listen to the video. I'd be happy to send you a preset-did you want the settings that I used in this video?
Yes, that would be so helpful, thanks for replying. I use logic and ProTools. It would be amazing. If you could give me the precept for both DAW. Every time I try to give you my contact and won’t let me send it. How do we go about this?
I find for mastering just 5 or 10% Recover and or Tame brings out just that little bit of extra clarity that might be needed for the final master. A little can def go a long way with Gullfoss.

I never Recover or Tame more than 25-28% on Gullfoss. That is more than enough. Moderation works best on this plug-in....
For sure. It's a subtle effect, and you will get audible pumping/artefacts past those levels. Cheers!
