Thanks you!! I really do love seeing them 😀 Every time I lift the lid it's a fun surprise when I do these surface feeding experiments!! Thanks so much for watching long enough to hear me say that!!🪱🪱🪱
Helloooooo again wormie friend!! 🪱🪱🪱 I’m catching up lol 😂 oh what a great experiment! This is gonna be interesting…. 🙌🏼 my guess would be that they’d break down the frozen stuff quicker because the freezing process has broken the cell walls on the fruit…. But I bet they all go for the watermelon first 😂😂 great little sneak peak at the end….. and now we wait 😆 take care guys xx 🌻🪱💐🌱💓🌷
Hellooooo again Anita!! Day 5 and some of the food is completely gone!! The watermelon is a close call for sure but the other stuff not...even...close!! In fact some of the lettuce seems to be trying to grow! I'm definitely learning what mold, mites, and worms prefer when it comes to food scraps😀 Thanks so much for taking time out of your busy day to watch our videos!! We really appreciate all the great feedback you give us!! We hope you're having a terrific weekend!!🪱🪱🪱
I had some interesting results for sure!! there is a sneak peak in the middle of this video: ruclips.net/video/bvMGG1z_7Zc/видео.html It should be my next video I release in a couple days. Thanks so much for stopping by to watch!!🪱🪱🪱
Thank you! I currently run my VermiHut with 4 trays on it, but it came with 5. I have found 4 trays to work well for me rotating every 60 days or so. I think you could experiment with 5 trays and find out what a good rotation timeframe looks like...maybe 45 days each rotation if the castings look finished. But I like using just 4 so I have an extra tray to use as a sifter!! Hopefully that helps!! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱
Hello Peggy!! That preview has me itching now to see the result of 10 days in the system. I wonder if the freezing will give any of the chosen items a leg up on the other stuff.... Lookin' forward to checking out how things turned out 👍🏻
Thanks AV!! I'm pretty excited about it as well. The next checkin for us is day 3 so I have no insider info on what happens next but I'm also interested to see if raw watermelon beats frozen cucumber or some other combinations to see if we can turn slow foods into fast foods by selectively freezing and/or keeping some foods raw (not that cucumber is slow). Thanks so much for dropping by to watch!!🪱🪱🪱
I'd like to be able to do something like that with my worms. Aside from all the reason why it wouldn't be practical, I'd also end up just sat there watching them! lol

Thank you Rachelle!! I was a little surprised they went for the raw watermelon right away as well. It was pretty juicy and had some more pink flesh than the frozen, but the tide is starting to turn...we just filmed Day 4 and wow, there were tons of worms on both!!! This should be an interesting one by the time they get finished...it's almost like the mites and worms follow a migration seeking out what is easiest to eat first, followed by a feeding frenzy! Thanks so much for watching!! I really appreciate your support from early on in our channel's existence!!🪱🪱🪱
You really know how to build up excitement with those previews! It'll be interesting to see how this goes. I mean, of course I'm sure we all figure the frozen will go faster, but I'm just curious to see how far behind the fresh will trail. Watermelon is looking to be the confirmed favorite here though!

Hello Patrick, New viewer here. I have a outdoor worm tote, very happy with castings but not collecting them. I am fascinated by the vermihut and am wondering it your worms ever get too fat to travel through the openings?
Thank you so much for stopping in to watch my video Laura!! I absolutely love my VermiHut and I run it a little differently than the directions. I found this rotation method to be more efficient, less messy and easier to harvest. Here is a video on the rotation system I do: ruclips.net/video/SfUzjr107Hw/видео.html and how to get started with a VermiHut: ruclips.net/video/g5Sag75OAXY/видео.html The worms have no problem getting up and down through the 1600 holes on the underside of each tray...In fact they appear to flow back and forth as if there was no underside to the tray at all!! Here is a video of what it looks like between trays as the worms travel and how I prop the trays up to prevent damaging the worms when I rotate: ruclips.net/video/6w2S38gq7Vo/видео.html I've measured the holes and they are about 1/4 inch wide, so any compost worm type you have will have no problem wiggling between the holes! As an added bonus, the VermiHut trays are excellent worm castings sifter to help you harvest your tote!! Here is a video on using them to harvest: ruclips.net/video/NOKbG7eaG1U/видео.html I hope this helps!! Thanks so much for choosing to watch my channel and tell us about your outdoor worm tote!!🪱🪱🪱
I commented about this problem once before but did not get a reply, so I'll try again. When you lift up your bins in your Vermihut do you have worms hanging down from the holes? i have hundreds of worms just hanging and I don't know why. I don't know if I should be worried or if it's not a problem. Thank you
Sorry about that Connie! I replied a day later but the notification may not have gone through. Here is what I replied with: Thank you for the kind words!! What you are experiencing is completely normal! Each VermiHut tray has around 1600 holes, so for the worms it is almost as if there is no bottom to each tray, they just come and go as they please. You just happen to be catching the worms as they slowly travel around the system. It sounds like you have a well running system and are doing everything right. I have a video where I show how my worms also hang when I lift the trays and how I try to keep the disruptions to a minimum as I rotate my system. Hi Patrick, have you ever considered pulling out a partial harvest like you do with your outdoor worm bag? It certainly looks like that top tray could give up some castings! Fascinating to see the first couple days on the time lapse. Frozen cucumber and lettuce for the win! ~ Sandra
Great minds think alike!! I was actually thinking about doing that. I gave away a bunch of castings, and I have been making worm castings tea about every 2-3 days so I'm actually getting lower than I'm used to on castings! Frozen cucumber and lettuce are definitely off to the races. The piece of watermelon I choose for frozen did not have quite as much pink flesh as the raw one, but I think like the tortoise & the hare a slow start will turn into a win in the end!! I took that last time lapse this morning so I have no idea what days 3-10 hold!! Thanks for stopping by to watch Sandra!!🪱🪱🪱
How can we really be sure the worms like coffee grounds? I always put in, but actually I was thinking that it's really hard to tell if they are consumed or just wind up as part of what we consider the castings. maybe I should check if the worms can't sleep or are real nervous. haha. Thanks for video. I'm subscribed.
That is one of the great worm bin questions!!! Especially the first time you go to harvest!! I think you're right, if the worms are skittish, then there is a good chance they're "drinking" the coffee😂🤣😂 But to set your mind at ease, I will say when a whole coffee bean accidentally makes it's way in the bin, I find it very easy to mush into a paste with my fingers by the next feeding...certainly some bin critters or the worms can make a feast out of that!??! But...maybe I need to do an experiment...Perhaps skip a feeding then put a small pile or line of used coffee grounds on the top and do another daily time lapse??!? I think you're on to something!! Thanks for the idea & the good laugh!! And of course thanks for watching!🪱🪱🪱
I'm on day 5 and what you describe with your experience is playing out in my worm bin for sure!! It's very interesting to me how they swarm a particular food and totally ignore another until the other is gone!! This is playing out a little differently than I expected! Thanks so much for watching and passing on your knowledge!!🪱🪱🪱
I think you are right Joe! The raw watermelon had a little more red flesh & was super juice after sitting in my refrigerator a couple weeks and I think it may also be lower in the bin...so far I've seen more worms on the raw and more mites on the frozen. I bet it will be a photo finish for them!! Thanks so much for watching!!🪱🪱🪱

Your food placement is inspiring me to do abstract painting! 😂 The castings are looking very good. Mine have finally started to look like this after I stuck to 10 or more days between feedings. They are munching on the cardboard! Yeah! Any may also be the population is starting to max. 👍🪱🪱🪱🪱
I like that...abstract...now I don't have to feel bad that everything wasn't perfectly symmetrical 😂🤣😂 I bet your population is booming!! Sometimes when my times between feedings is shorter it feels like the bedding never gets consumed, but when I stretch things out I can really see the difference! So great to hear how well your bin is doing!! Thanks for stopping by Ann!!🪱🪱🪱

I feel like your emojis are leaving hints too??!? And I read a comment that you'd been driving 3 days and over 2000 miles...Midwest? Living near parents? So many clues...so few answers!!!🤣You're making it fun!! Can't wait to see your mugs back on a video in some strange place!! Thanks for watching and for the good laugh!!🪱🪱🪱
@Vermicompost 🤣🤣🤣you're soooo close! The video will be up tomorrow brother !!
That IPhone is crazy good, the fact that post edits don't pixalate is impressive. You must have super fast internet to upload those files !!
Already getting hands dirty feels good, eventhough it red, blue and Grey clay..... 🥚🥚🥚🥚😁😁
Btw you have to watch tomorrow's video all the way to end lol
Sounds like Ohio or Georgia...I just need to know if I can drive there within a day!! Can't wait to see the vid!!
