One of my favorite cars ever was my 4 eye, 4 door Foxbody midsize LTD from the 80's that I stuffed an OM617 Mercedes turbo Diesel into. It was a quirky combination, but once the bugs were worked out, it was just an all-around great car. I did the 5 lug upgrade, SN95 brakes, GM f-body aluminum radiator, junkyard turbo upgrade from a Volvo with an eBay compressor housing. It had (80's) style, decent performance and nearly 40 MPG. On my way to the shop, a gentleman in a full size OBS Chevy ran a red light and my Fox sacrificed itself to save me. It took 2 years to settle my claim. Because of the accident, I have a new scar, a fancy titanium plate in my neck where my bulging disc was, and another Foxbody LTD. Since my Diesel engine was damaged, I'm going the lazy route this time and swapping in a supercharged 6.0 LQ4 truck motor. My daily driver is a Honda Insight, so I am not worried about the lack of fuel economy in the LTD this time around. Oh, and it will have agreed value insurance when it hits the road. If I can fix my broken Diesel, I am thinking it needs to find its way into an old mail Jeep, or a Pinto station wagon. That would be fun!

@@oldcoot3459 In my home country, Albania, about 3/4ths of cars on the road are classic (60’s-90’s, W123/W124/W126) Mercedes, mostly Diesels and often run on waste veggie oil. They’re the only cars that offer most (if not all) features of a modern car, without any of the gimmicky excess, but in an analogue package which is infinitely serviceable & maintainable. I am a big supporter of producing Diesel grand tourers. My third favorite classic Diesels (after Mercedes & Peugeot) are Isuzu Turbo Diesels. Isuzu offered a Diesel engine in their 117 Coupé Grand Tourer, the first car company to do so.

Thank you so much for sharing your projects with us :) It's good to see what different-thinking can create. Your electronic fuel trim set up is a re-invention of the mechanical aneroid. some diesel engines have those to reduce black smoke under part load conditions. It is a spring loaded valve that limits fuel rack travel until a set boost pressure is reached. it can look like a vacuum diaphragm cannister mounted to the injection pump with a small diameter tube going to the boost side of the air inlet tube (many look like an integrated part of the injector pump). The nice thing about your electronic system is the EGT fail-safe and the 99% automatic compensating adjustability without having to machine new parts. Keep up the experiments and I look forward to the next episode! 😊

They're Installing a way-too-small 4-cylinder engine in a full-sized SUV, then turbocharging and tuning the hell out of it so it can get that heavy car up to a decent speed on the road. It looks like 3-cylinder engines will be the future, Jimbo, and you're leading the way.

    For those of you wondering
On engine electrical components the term "12 volt" changes depending on whether the component is supposed to be on while the engine is cranking, if it's on whenever you're running or used intermittently.
Because your battery is between 12.1-12.6 volts before you turn the key on.
Then it drops down to 10.5 volts while cranking.
Your alternator maintains 14.25-14.50 while running
So most headlights are rated at 12.8 volts
Shift solenoids and sensors for closed loop operation are usually 14 volts.
The relay for the starter is 9 volts.
There's almost nothing on a car that's actually rated at 12.0 volts

That performance result proves consistent with what Gale Banks claimed in his series where he pushed the Duramax to its limits. He said you'll get better performance if you aren't over-fuelling, which also explains your fuel economy improvement. Obviously you want to maximize the available air with your fuelling, but going beyond is counterproductive. It's interesting how too much fuel in a diesel has almost the same effect as running a gasoline engine lean.

You are creating this content because of the right reasons. You love making the content and you are having fun doing it. As they say everything else is just gravy on top. I think its a decent idea setting up a system where your viewers, if are so inclined, could chip in a few bucks to help out your channel. You create really awesome and educational content, and at the rate you go through ABS plastic filament I think you need all of the support you can get.
On the plus side you haven’t resorted to shilling for man-scaping products just yet to get your next arduino upgrade.

It wouldn't even bother me honestly. Make that money. If it were me, I wouldn't push just any product, but if it was something I use and believe in I would certainly consider it.
I FF or skip all commercials anyhow. Some people act like an in video ad read is enough to make them not watch anymore. Just hold down the 2x speed or skip right for the duration. I think the companies are wasting their money honestly. Not too many people watch or pay attention to the ads.
