This anime is like black humor, categorized as "comedy", that's why people is so soft and kind (I only remember this insult) but people is so much meaner with people with social anxiety in real life

The unrealistic expectations society makes us all want from ourselves, sometimes, it can kill a person. Also there's way more to a person than just their appearance, and excuse you, but if I didn't make as many friends back in high school as I would've liked to, it's clearly not MY fault. Sometimes you're just in a situation where you can't relate to anybody in the classroom, because everybody you see and talk to is just a shitty person, that doesn't even like you, or even worse, abuses you through bullying and shitty, undeserved behaviors. Thus why some people feel the need to close themselves up in a shell. It's not ideal, it's not "brought upon themselves", it's accidental and instinctive, and based on fear of others' judgements. We all have our struggles, but sometimes we don't even realize them, and so we become distant to others and enclosed in our lil comfort bubble. A bubble that can also be destructive towards ourselves. You cannot imagine just HOW much time I had to deal listening to my own lonely thoughts, just COSTANTLY. Sometimes it can even get loud, or deafening. And shit like covid didn't help either. However, as it turns out, I eventually DID get some friends in high school, and in other places, like online (99% online, ngl, that helped me a LOT), and as the shell opened up, so did I. Eventually I came to learn that I wasn't even that "weird", I just needed to meet the right person to be finally able to talk to with ease and a smile. Those types of people are rare, but when they show up, it makes everything so much better. You finally stop closing yourself in a bubble, you let yourself speak out about what's on your mind, and explore the world with them. You finally get a new, brighter perspective on life, through listening and acceptance, but also being heard and respected, and most of all, being cared for. We all need a friend. We all need a hug, and care, and compassion. It's in our DNA, as humans, and animals. And when we can't find a friend, we just need to look harder. So here's my advice, to those reading this. Talk to people, before judging them. Their appearance doesn't mean anything. See for yourself if they're worth your time or not. And when they turn out to be shitty, just ignore them, and move on to someone else. There are 8 billions of us on this planet, so there's damn sure bound to be someone out there for you. Nobody here is ever alone. Stay strong, and keep looking. 💙
It's true that it's on us to decide the changes on our lives, but a lot of people including myself, just aren't that good as the rest on the social environment, because of their upbringing, their genetics (if we talk about conditions like the autism spectrum) or even both. I'm a person who has Asperger Syndrome and it was particularly hard for me to be like the rest and just a few years ago I was able to make meaningful connections, but even now at the verge of adulthood, I lack a lot of desired social skills, not because a lack of interest, but because of mental blocks created through years of social ineptitude. Not everybody has the same faculties, that's not an excuse to not try fixing that, but a reality that we have to assimilate before putting ALL the blame on someone (all being the key word here.)
Stop relating to Tomoko. As you've maybe noticed, she is the embodiment of every bad human trait there is. She isn't even a victim, so you can't even defend her for anything.
