    As an “oldie” myself (probably older than even those passive aggressive commenting on TikTok, but I’m not outing myself for just HOW old I am, lol!) who loves Twilight......I think it’s adorable you and many others are getting so into Twilight and TVD that you’re doing stuff like this!! I don’t care if I enjoyed it first, it makes me happy to see newer generations get all into it to the point they enjoy it and want to make outfits and look books!! So, go to town w it, I’ll be here enjoying every moment!! 👀

    it absolutely shocks me how people throw tantrums over an outfit…… like why would anyone GENUINELY give a shit about what someone else is wearing? it’s honestly beyond me at this point. this goes for these ‘twilight-core’ outfits, alt, indie, goth, basic, preppy, etc. it’s so annoying.

    I think the skinny comments are due to the fact that twilightcore is really just late ‘00s basics, and that era was notable for making clothes that looked best on skinny girls, and primarily white skinny girls. Low rise jeans, form fitting henley tops, etc. There weren’t a diverse set of silhouettes like there are today. It’s not that it wasn’t cute, just it only looked good on certain people. So that’s why I think it makes millennials mad bc it probably reminds them of the days they hated their bodies and when body positivity wasn’t really a thing. It’s also like all fast fashion pieces but that’s a different thing.

      I get what you’re saying but people do this on every single video of a skinny woman showing off her outfit no matter what the outfit is. It’s just people wanting to trauma dump about body image issues and has nothing to do with this phenomenon

    • @mynameisreallycool1
      @mynameisreallycool1 3 года назад +23

      Then they don't have to wear those clothes. Why is it that if some clothes are unflattering to some, then no one else is allowed to wear them? I may not like the way that horizonal striped shirts look on me, but that doesn't mean that if I see someone in that kind of shirt, I'm going to tell them, "Yeah this only looks good on girls with a (blank) type of body." and shame them for their bodies or their fashion sense. Why are the girls/women who do wear those kind of clothing taking the fall? If they feel comfortable in them, then so be it. It doesn't mean that EVERYONE has to wear them. People on TikTok are not responsible for what everybody has to wear.
      At this point, I think that's just an excuse that some millennials use just to pick on teens for liking something that reminds them of their childhood.

    • @J-H0PE
      @J-H0PE 3 года назад +9

      @@mynameisreallycool1 -- idk if you're a teen currently or what it's not a simple solution of just wearing other clothes that complimented average/bigger bodies. during the twilight era clothing stores didn't offer much variety. whatever clothes were in style were the only clothes being sold for months, even years. and online clothes shopping wasn't common so if your local stores didn't have anything flattering for you you were sh-t out of luck. this is also the era in which the victoria secret model body was ideal and the insane "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" motto was a thing. an era in which female celebs were starving themselves and promoting fad diets, and were still seen as role models and idolized. clothing stores specifically marketed items as being able to give the illusion of a thinner body frame for the wearer.
      OP can point out why people from that era hate the resurgence of the twilight style because they actually had to experience the body shame that came along with such clothes in everyday life. y'all are coming at it from one side from an outside perspective based on current society and clothing brands' extra offerings towards the body positivity movement.

    • @positiveecho326
      @positiveecho326 2 года назад +8

      No, as someone who was around back then there were plus size clothes in most stores. Most plus size clothes are made (even back then) with trends in mind. Jane Bryant was or is a trendy plus size woman’s store, there was also stores like Catos. People just like to hate on people, that’s just the internet. Also, low rise jeans sucked no matter your size.

    Hey there, as a 23 year old I can say I grew up in the early 2000s with boot cut jeans, Cami's, all that stuff and I will say this... I think that it's very different now because back then we just wore what are parents told us to and bought for us, we were too young to really form our own style then so we just kinda felt awkward in that kinda of clothing at the time so I think that's why people bash it now. But I think the younger teens now have access to TikTok and Instagram now to find fashion inspiration and really create their own style to feel cute and confident! I love the 2000s revival style and Twilight core aesthetic it's actually cute now and I like that people are styling it up in their own ways it adds a bit more creativity instead of the boring look of back then you know?
    Omg btw I had the cutest brown faux fur covered platform shoes by Soda or something like that they were so cute I wanna own them again or something similar like the Demonia camel platforms. I wanna start wearing this 2000s style again because I never realized how much creative potential it had until recently.

    I think some ppl r attacking twilight core (not the millennials) but it’s just normal clothes that girls r saying are cute when this was just normal..fashion in the 2000’s. The whole mormon core thing is just said bc people can make anything into “aesthetic” and glorify it. A few years back it was bad to wear skinny jeans and henley shirts , people would wear mom jeans and high waisted pants.. and this is just a microtrend as well you already know these girls will just stop wearing these clothes after a while + it gets so problematic to have microtrends like these u can’t blame girls who aren’t conventionally skinny who hate on low raise jeans bc they usually are not fitted for plus size people in the 2000’s that kind of fashion was for skinny people :/ and not to say teenage girls can’t wear whatever they want (as a teenage girl) but come on, it’s a microtrend and if i saw a girl wearing clothes inspired by twilight core i would not care tbh or notice but it’s still a microtrend and most these girls will likely move on from it :/
    This is just an opinion btw :)) i just think it’s important not to bundle up all the “hateful” comments that people make under these posts or blame millennials..

    I really like this style, especially because I'm someone who likes to dress a bit more modestly which I can see in this style more than others, but my only problem is that somehow for most of the twilight accounts I've come across on tiktok, nearly every one of their outfits consists of Just.Brandy. I get the view that Brandy is catering for skinner built girls or whatever (although im pretty sure the owner is really racist?) but it sucks that when I really thought I had found a style I could go with, I basically got the message that I need to buy from brandy melville. (or get vintage hollister). Basically to sum up, I really like this style but I hope that that it becomes more experimental and broad outside these same few brands. also maybe more poc representation bc as a south asian/arab girl when I think of this style I kinda only think of white girls haha.

      Maybe you could get this stuff at a local thrift store, or ask a friend's older sister if they have some henley shirts (it's the button up shirts in the video)? If you google "henley shirts for women" a lot will come up. I used to wear something similar to the outfits Bella wore I was a teen in the early 2000's. Also amen to the white girls comment. I am half asian, and I didn't see other asian people wearing these clothes when they were first in fashion. It seems this look is rather figure hugging despite being casual. It's because the shirt materials are often made of clingy knit fabric. When my mom saw a henley shirt I bought, she said it made my boobs look huge and gave me an amused yet annoyed look. She said people were going to stare at my chest, and that I shouldn't wear shirts that draw attention to it. So maybe it's the culture of being a POC? Like stricter or more conservative parents = less likely to get away with wearing this stuff? Ironically, all the white girls at my school wore this stuff even if they were conservative themselves, so it's all relative.

    So one person commented that they were an "oldie" therefore you assume that all of the passive aggressive comments are millennials? It's kind of a logical fallacy. It's definitely possible that some of the negative commenters are millennials but we can't just blame an entire generation without actually having the receipts. The thing is, most of the negative comments are pretty par for the course as far as negative comments go: every video has commenters/detractors like these and they come from all walks of life. They may even be from Zoomers. The negativity doesn't take away from the fact that this is a money saver of a trend: pieces are easy to find at the thrift store, there's a focus on layering for variety, and it's fashionable in the style to wear things multiple times. It's a great style/trend and I'm glad people are going back to it.

    Okay so I mostly agree with you here, people should wear what they want and not have to worry about people persecuting them. But I think the “skinny” comments might have something behind them. You know the “is it an outfit or is she just skinny” meme? This is kind of in the same vein as that. Twilightcore, y2k, and 2010’s fashion all cater to the ultra-thin Paris Hilton body type. Tight camisoles and low rise jeans tend to look unflattering on bigger people, or at the very least they don’t fit/look like they do on the models. Taking it back to the “is it an outfit or is she just skinny” meme, a lot of the outfits and staples of twilight core are comprised of basic, kind of lackluster pieces. But their cut combined with their simple design accentuates the thinness of the person wearing it. Being thin becomes the statement piece of the outfit. How it fits is just as if not more important than design. This is (I think) why a lot of people critique twilightcore. I don’t 100% agree or disagree with this take, but I wanted to throw my 2 cents anyway. Loved the video!

      It’s to mock the more modest style this fashion has.
