Teflon tape needs to go on clockwise or the way the head is screwed on. You did this right, though some may not know this. Also holding the main wall attachment as you did is a good idea so you don't crack the pipe.
Did that but it leaked. I have carpal tunnel so thought I should tighten with a clamp wrench now it sprays out of the joint. How do I fix it? Teflon tape is on clockwise
Get a nice sized plastic bag, and fill it with Vinegar, then place it over the shower head, and make sure the Vinegar is reaching the threads of the shower head. Tape the bag up there to sit over night, and get a pair of Channel Lock pliers, like these: amzn.to/48tMmMQ And grip the base of the shower head and turn counter clock wise. Be careful, and you should be able to get it off.
Sorry if you mean the water meter outside the house or where ever yours is, i dont think so i dont believe that is an issue but very good question you got me thinking now, does the water come out if shower head is removed, because my shower tap for turning on off hot and cold is connected to where shower head is connected

It helps you tighten the shower-head, and helps create a water seal. It is possible to get a new shower head on without the tape that doesn't leak, but the tape makes this easier.

If you don’t have a metal brush use a scrub daddy or try to peel it off from the starting piece of tape

I would check the rubber seal that should be on the other end of the shower head and make sure it is in good condition and looks like the right size.

You should used Teflon Tape, also known as Plumber's Tape. You are better off not using tape at all then you would trying to use any other tape.
