suppe is not the first one to come in ones mind when he thinks of classical music, but there are so many wonderfull musicians that are off center that it makes you wonder. Classical music in immense, and oddly enough the one that respect this more than most are the Heavy Metal heads like me.
Franz Von Suppe, genio nunca supe que fuiste vos quien realizo tan colosal marcha.Poderosa y romanticaaaaaaa. viva la buena musica, si hay un paraiso para los artistas gracias amigo de mis oidos.
Leichte Kavallerie (Light Cavalry) is an operetta in two acts by Franz von Suppé, with a libretto by Karl Costa (de). It was first performed in the Carltheater, Vienna, on 21 March 1866.
Nice to find this, i found an old vinyl record (Von Suppe Overtures) on my late grandfather's record player and when i looked up information on Von Suppe and found this video, which of course will always have a special meaning as my grandfather loved this music.
Jason Liu If it is Cavalries, play this "Light Cavalry Overture". If it is tanks, play "Soviet March". If it is Carrier-based fighters, play "Top Gun".
Am I the only one who thinks that 1:35-2:07 is the best part of this piece? I played this in my school's symphony orchestra my junior year but my director didn't take that section nearly that fast, but after hearing it that fast, it is so epic! I think that should be just as well known as the rest of the piece
This brings me back to my 7th grade year in middle school, where we played this for our first piece of the year :D such a great song, and it sounds so lovely.
God bless Von Suppe - the kind of classical composer that morons like me really enjoy ! This one + "Poet and Peasant" + "Morning, Noon and Night In Vienna" - all great stuff ! Forget Heavy Metal - have Von Suppe blasting out of your car stereo in heavy traffic in the morning !! You`ll turn some heads !
c'est magnifique! such beautiful and often heard music ... and I never knew it was by my dear old Von Suppe'... truly wonderful sparks of classical music
I heard this while my cousin was watching old Disney cartoons and I knew I had played it before but I couldn't remember what it was. Google is a blessing
We're playing this song in Orchestra! Very nice piece! Love the string section, though it is a bit insane, but it definitely is a wonderful part in the piece! :D
Right, that's exactly what I was going to say on YT. 'Tis nice folks remember that. I think the Disney cartoonists had done a marvellous job. The animation is sooo great that even an experienced conducter wouldn't be ashamed of it! It's a pleasure to watch.
I personally play 3rd trumpet. I may be one of the older players, but I like 3rd and always ask for it.. It's always nice to have a strong third trumpet player blasting away at those low notes.
Sometimes, Mickey Mouse's cartoons have opened my mind. I have always been fond of the version played in "Symphony Hour" after Goofy had broken the instruments played by Mickey's friends.
I heard this piece on the radio, and when it got to 2:00 on, I was like, "Why is Hunter X Hunter playing??!" My brother complained and I told him to shut up for the name. When I heard Light Cavalry Overture, I looked it up immediately later on and here I am. I swear it sounds identical to Hunter X Hunter music, and after readingg some comments, I have to wonder if this wasn't insanely popular or something in Japan at some point or another.
Oh man, I love this piece...but the Riccochet bowing is killing me... Plus the 1st Vl. part is in the stratosphere! I need to practice so I'm listening to this now. But I gotta hand it to Von Suppe, he knows a beat. The 32nd notes were a nice touch.
I'm sure I heard this song in an old Popeye cartoon. I once read that cartoons like Popeye did a great job at introducing children to the classics. Can anyone else here remember hearing this song in Popeye or another cartoon?
If this is the light cavalry, can't imagine what the heavy cavalry sounds like.
underrated comment above ^^
Especially Battle on the Ice.
I think of the "light" part as actually light shining on a band
Oh, what nonsense. You're just trying to be clever. How old are you? Eleven?

I think my watching those classic cartoons of the 40s and 50s is where I learned to enjoy classical music
I have finally found it! The song that always play when I see horse riding scenes on TV or movies!
Nope, that's William Tell Overture
Piglteria They sometimes play 2:10 on TV in several occasions.
TechieWidget I haven't heard them play that part before
Yep, that be the one....I reacted the same way, but I had the help of a high school band concert!
Good Lord, knowing von Suppe from the TV series! I bet you are all Yanks. Regards all the same.
A great interpretation of one of my all time favorites. Regards from Guayaquil, Ecuador, South America.

If this is the Light Cavalry, imagine Tanks.
The firebird suite
Jason Liu
If it is Cavalries, play this "Light Cavalry Overture".
If it is tanks, play "Soviet March".
If it is Carrier-based fighters, play "Top Gun".
+Tomohiko Mukai if it is modern warfare, play Dr Strangelove
+Tomohiko Mukai Highway to the Danger Zone
Nigga look like Tom Hanks
I played bass trombone on this piece at a music festival, and it was so much fun! I loved honking out low notes!

+Haley L. same I play the boring parts too
***** Very true
Collin Dewyre I played this in 8th grade and 1:35 was my least favorite
No. To be honest, I don't like the rest nearly as much as that part.
Too fast honestly.
As a tubist, I always loved playing this. Just a fun, cool piece.
This brings me back to my 7th grade year in middle school, where we played this for our first piece of the year :D such a great song, and it sounds so lovely.
Beautiful! Very professional orchestra! I just love it!
Love this piece. Especially when the conductor has the audience participate during the chorus.
My favorite part is when the conductor shouts his name over the music at the beginning, Cardi B. style.

Beautiful music.
absolutly awesome!!
beautiful..
omg....THIS was one of my favourite when mom played piano on sunday. but she played only the main melodie and i liked the fast tempi a lot !!
We're playing this in our schools symphony orchestra I play violin and my conductor calls the violin part at 1:35 "Our moment of death" lol
Ha, sounds about right.
If you think that's bad try playing the quavers in the horns and woodwinds. They don't even 'die' here; that would be too easy.
morning noon and night in vienna is still my favourite one by Franz von suppe, simply cause we play it in band
Right, that's exactly what I was going to say on YT.
'Tis nice folks remember that.
I think the Disney cartoonists had done a marvellous job. The animation is sooo great that even an experienced conducter wouldn't be ashamed of it! It's a pleasure to watch.
Masterpiece
3:50 - 4:59 beautiful part!
great piece. i love it. ^ ^
I played the Clarinet Cadenza in this. I loved it so much. He's great at writing a simple cadenza that can be changed and fitted to an individual.
Very beautiful melody
This song... its a very beautiful song

This piece and Poets and Peasants give Suppe about 100 cartoons with his music.
wonderful
2:10 - 2:46 & 5:00 - 5:50 is all I care about. Thanks for the upload.
2:08 whenever I hear this piece, I always think, "This is the good guys (whoever they might be) coming to the scene to rescue the day." Epic.

The stone high band played this song for band competition. it was pretty epic we got all superiors

When the M551s' ATGM kicks in
@PC10KandWE10K I think I will be ok then. ha ha such a wonderful song.
oh i love the feel for this piece. and i play the cello, so that part is pretty damn easy compared to evryone elses part
Good music has no expiration date.
I am here because this piece was used as the overture for 8th grade graduation in Lasalle, Illinois in 1918.
Do you have a grandparent who told you this?

@MrVeinemeinen Because it's so recognizable
I don't know how best to describe it. It's the cool part that starts at 4:58.
I'm the piccolo;) Countin the bars are b-o-r-i-n-g at fist, but when the Allegretto brillante comes, I can play loud and show-off :D
Linda musica. JM
@5:00 - Learned during WB cartoons.

The light Cavalry overture is my favorite opera overture by franchman Franz von Suppee
Go's great in San Francisco Traffic early morning, and William Tell along with it.

I love playing this song in orchestra (im violin)
If you enjoy great marches check out Carl Teike, in particular "Alte Kameraden" march......it means "Old Comrades"
we also play that in our Music band

I'm sure I heard this song in an old Popeye cartoon. I once read that cartoons like Popeye did a great job at introducing children to the classics. Can anyone else here remember hearing this song in Popeye or another cartoon?
At least there is music as good as this in our time. I just wish better music was popular.
