I've been to Costa Rica 3 times, rented a car while there, been to 6 of the seven provinces including Limon and Guanacaste (Tamarindo) where we hung out at Sharky's. If you're a Gringo (North American), Costa Ricans don't see black or white, they only see green.
Thanks for the video. . Just came back as a Black man and I’m utterly blown away by the pura vida lifestyle and mindset . Best vacation I’ve ever had . Beautiful place and people .
It's actually great to be Black in Costa Rica. I lived there for 2yrs and I remember every time I was driving with a Gringo, we would get questioned hard by the police at the checkpoints, but whenever I was with my Jamaican Man they would just wave us on. We didn't even have to stop lol😂
I agree! My family and I visited Costa Rica and as a black person, we were welcomed. We’ve also noticed not many black people traveling to Tamarindo. It was a pleasure to see the few we did cross paths with. Definitely looking forward to going back. I really respect the Costa Rican people!

@callende I always say, for some reason... strangers show more love and support than friends and fam. Thank you for the love... people like you make me keep going! 🤞🏽💯💛💙
For most of the ticos there's one race: human. If you see our history we are so mixed that race lost a lot of meaning. You can see "black people" with clearer skin than "indigenous descendants", you can see people that resemble arabs, jews, polish, spaniards, mayans, nigerians, indians, italians, indigenous, british, etc. What we have to do is to never forget the genocide, slavery and cultural erasure of the indigenous, the apartheid on Limon jamaican descendants, the banana republics, the condition of the rairoad workers, el codo del diablo, the central american federation, Marcus Garvey and the Blackstar línea, Pablo presbere, the fights won against the colonialism of England and United States, los ladinos and many other events that formed an integration of so many things
i’m here in costa rica now at the riu palace and noticed the was hardly no black people working in the resorts .. i asked the one black woman i saw in uniform said she was the only black person on staff 😢. the people that worked were all nice and kind however representation matters. it would have been nice to see diversity .
Trust me, you won't see black people working or really just vacaying either. Legally foreigners cant work there. Limon is where you need to go to see us. Have fun and be safe. 🤙🏽💯
You probably would not see to many black Costa Ricans working on that side of Costa Rica because there are not too many Black Costa Ricans living on that side of the Country. The majority of blacks you will find on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica (Limón).
They are all in the other side of the country, the RIU is very far from their province/hometown. The RIU is even very far for the people in the central valley, then add 5 extra hours for the people in the Caribbean .
It‘s rasism to say Limon is unsafe.Even Ticos say Limon is unsafe. Then when i ask them have you been to limon? The allways say no. Its always ticos and gringos who have never been to limon that say its dangerous. Yes drugs are more available there, but you just say no and thats it. Just use comon Sense how to behave. Limon is beautiful rich in culture and has the Best Food and people in CR. If you want to know the most unsafe part of CR is San Jose
@@duoUwander well i lived in San Jose in my teenage years for a view years and all i can say it‘s prejudice. Ticos from san jose (it was always the older generations) said to me and to other estranjeros, to not go to limon because there is a lot of black people and drugs and roberies. So i call it also racism. Because a view generations before, black ticos where not alloud to leave limon. So they didn‘t have a lot of interacion or personal experience with them i guess. But under the younger population i have never experienced or heard of people talk bad about blacks. Then again it’s diffrent for Ticos when your a Gringo, Gringo is Gringo no matter skin color so it will always be exiting to get to know you. You will not be seen the same as black ticos. The idea that limon is dangerous is still in everybodies head. But to be honest there is a lot of drogs and also roberies. But like i said it all depends on your own behaviour. If you use comon sense its easy to stay out of trouble and most of the people are friendly and welcoming. You also get a lot of robery at the pacific coast so… I loved limon specially el caribe sur. I spent almost every weekend there and all hollydays
@@leaborer-dy8bk Sounds like any other neighborhood here in the States. Yes, it can be dangerous... but just use common sense and be aware of your surroundings and who you hang around... 99% of the time, everything is just fine. I gotta check out El Caribe Sur! 🤙🏽
By statistics San José is much more unsafe than Limón. Puntarenas is also unsafe. The problem with Limón and Puntarenas is they have the two main ports in the country so the narcos are there. But the current government is doing a good job, they put scanners to kill their business right in the port and is been working out, they re not sending "toneladas" anymore. I've been to Limon countless times and I've never had any problem, it's beautiful
It depends on what you like mi amor... some people like hot weather and some like the rainy season. I prefer hot, no rain. Dec to july. Now, where to visit is all on you. I love the beach so Tamarindo was where I lived for the majority of time while I was there. But, really there ain't a "bad" time to go to Costa Rica! 😅🤞🏽💯 I hope that helps you mi amor. 💛💙
I actually been debating whether or not I'm going back. It's so expensive there and so inexpensive everywhere else! 😂 But we shall see. Now, skydiving... I never really saw adventures or tours for skydiving, mostly just those small helicopters that take you all around the coastline. Sorry bout that but check around... there may be some places.
Definitely a lie, ask some of the local Ticos and they will tell you there is racism, not to the degree of what you experience in say the US, but, just because one doesn't experience it, doesn't mean it is non existent. I am in Costa Rica right now, I had a long discussion with my airbnb host about an experience I had, I just wanted to know if what I felt was real and they affirmed, they don't care for their darker local people and prefer them to stay in certain pockets of the country. The mood changed dramatically when they heard me speak and all was good. Learn the history and ongoing fights for the right to be considered equal of the black natives there. Too many of us think all is well, but, it is your green that spares you the oppressive feelings when you go to these countries. We for years got angry when black people from other countries came to the US and were considered to be better in every way than us, now we go to other countries and our brown and black sister and brothers are like, WTH! I love being here in Costa Rica, but, like with many other Latin countries, they don't truly see you any different than many non black people do in your original home country. I mostly am treated well wherever I have gone even in the US, but, my head is never planted in the sand. If I ever see month I have been here in Manuel Antonio that us an anomaly, I go where I think I want to travel to without thought of will there be black folk, I go where I think I might enjoy a place in general, but, I too do wish I had taken a trip over to limon. Only reason I won't make this place home is for the sticker price each time I go to make any kind of purchase.
I'm Costa Rican and I think about investing in Limon.. Jaco is really expensive and I think with the new government in office Limon will rise again.. in my humble opinion Limon it's the right place for investment right now. It has the most potential in a couple of years having a property there will be a gold mine...
It's expensive but not... depending on the lifestyle you want and expect to live. If you want the lifestyle like back in the states then yes it's expensive. If you live lowkey, its affordable 🤙🏽
@@duoUwander thanks man! I’m working in the Oilfields so I’ll be able to save, I’ll be here for a cpl years before I head out that way. But I’ll take the Mrs on a trip to see where we’d end up staying. What type of monthly income in USD would you say one would need to support a family of 5?
@51 Fifty My advice is... Save, save save as much as you can before moving. 2nd definitely visit before moving... trust me, it aint all peaches and cream! 😂 But thats a hard question.. a family of 5. It's cliche but it depends on how you expect to live. Keep in mind It's always hot you may want live inland and not on the beach. You and wifey might like the heat and beaches but the kiddoes hate it. So, its a lot to think about and I dont want to give you a false number. Just know inland is always cheaper than staying near the beach. Hope that helps 🤙🏽
Hola , ese racismo que ustedes viven en USA es único . Eso es lo más estupido que existe y solo se escucha en ese país . Ni en Alemania o Inglaterra de verdad cansado ver cómo se discriminan x el color de la piel .

Yeah it depends on the city, I know Limón has a lot of black people.
Oh wow I wrote this before you said Limón on the vlog, lol
😂🤙🏽 You can't talk about black people in Costa Rica and not mention Limon! 😂🤞🏽
I'm in Costa Rica Rn!
Ayeee! Enjoy fambam... I know you will! 😂🤞🏽💯
Eloquent and articulate... thank you for your insight. 🙏🏽🤙🏽💛💙
Yes dear is radish people in Costa Rica hi am back and group dear but it is different
i’m here in costa rica now at the riu palace and noticed the was hardly no black people working in the resorts .. i asked the one black woman i saw in uniform said she was the only black person on staff 😢. the people that worked were all nice and kind however representation matters. it would have been nice to see diversity .
@@Mimarcel1247 🤞🏽💯
Beautifully spoken... I wonder why "everyone" thinks it so unsafe. 🤔🙄
You also get a lot of robery at the pacific coast so…
I loved limon specially el caribe sur.
Have you been to Panama? If so, how would you compare it to Costa Rica?
Never had a chance to visit Panama but had friends who loved it. Everything is cheaper but the people aren't as friendly.
Thanks for responding. 👍🏿

When is the best time to visit and where should I visit
It depends on what you like mi amor... some people like hot weather and some like the rainy season. I prefer hot, no rain. Dec to july. Now, where to visit is all on you. I love the beach so Tamarindo was where I lived for the majority of time while I was there. But, really there ain't a "bad" time to go to Costa Rica! 😅🤞🏽💯 I hope that helps you mi amor. 💛💙
end of August into Sept is a good time to visit Limon area too. parades and festivals happen around that time.
We don’t care if a person is black! Most of our black community live in Limón
🙏🏽💯🤙🏽
You plan on moving back? Where can I skydive??
I actually been debating whether or not I'm going back. It's so expensive there and so inexpensive everywhere else! 😂 But we shall see. Now, skydiving... I never really saw adventures or tours for skydiving, mostly just those small helicopters that take you all around the coastline. Sorry bout that but check around... there may be some places.
Its a whole coast of us.
💯 All love too!
I live in Memphis like the sweater thinking about buying property for investment in Jaco
I heard jaco was dope... a lil "ghetto" but dope. I never had a chance to visit though.
I'm Costa Rican and I think about investing in Limon.. Jaco is really expensive and I think with the new government in office Limon will rise again.. in my humble opinion Limon it's the right place for investment right now. It has the most potential in a couple of years having a property there will be a gold mine...

What about the cost of living?

@@duoUwander there are many black people born and/or raised in San José, Desamparados, and Heredia . From like 2-3 generations ago, they moved to SJ from Limon.
