Hey man I see you’ve been out the RUclips game for some time, just wanted to say thanks. I’ve been watching some vids you made over the last few years. Very helpful
I see it’s been a year since you’ve uploaded and always enjoy your knowledge on aquariums. With that I need some advice. One of your videos convinced me to set up a dirted planted aquarium and it ran great for years but now I’m ready to take it down but it has little baby plecos, hundreds and every time I try to catch the tiny little buggers I’m stuck with clouds of dirt and mud and they are super tiny and unfortunately it’s taking forever to get ALL THESE TINY FISH OUT. What’s the best way to go about it with all the mud. It’s a 20 gallon tall with dirt and aqua soil and that’s it right now with a sponge filter to keep it cycled.
Thanks for explaining this again further. I hope people will heed your advice and email their state's senators/reps. Easy to do, just find their contact page on their website. :)
I just thought of something that could really be a problem. The production of antidotes. If we can't get the venomous snakes to the people who make antivenom, they can't make the antivenom...
@@TheWaterBox was that stated as an exception? I also worry about animal conservationalists. And how it will have an impact on invasive species numbers if when people move, they can't bring their pet, and feel the best course is to release it into the wild. Not arguing for the record. You had the most indepth explanation I've come across so far so I want to know your opinion on these things.
Best video explaining this. Especially for those that listen only to the opinions of the favorite popular fish tuber. You laid it out exactly how it is worded. There are fish tubers making the claim it is to encourage u.s. breeding or reduce the over fishing. No where in the act does it mention that and how would a blanket ban encourage local breeding or prohibition of interstate transport. You explained why people are concerned And understand how to approach this. Thank you and I'm so glad you are back.
i know i sound dumb here. but my nephew came to me about this today... does this mean no exotic animals period if this passes or will it be possible if you get a permit ect. ?
It's not dumb. Right now these amendment affect importing/exporting and nothing about keeping them (although, there's currently still a list of stuff you're not allowed to keep based on endangerment...etc). So the effect of these amendment is the availablilty of exotic animals. If they do pass these amendment 1) you're going to have a harder time getting them a no one can stock them, and 2) It's possible that everything exotic (or non-exotic) can be banned from import/export when it goes into law UNTIL they research it and decide that they are not and that's ALOT of work to do. because there's just tons of species out there. The wording in the amendment is a bit too open so we don't know what they will do if it passed into law and if they do, they can basically say "everything can be considered injurious until we deem it's not". In the end, it's how much trust you have in the gov that would handle this if it goes into law. Again, if you don't like what you see, you can help by writting your senetor and tell them not to add these in.
@@TheWaterBox thanks. I have zero knowledge about any of this. I am only here because my 12 year old nephew threw this bill at me today LOL! and i was like uhhhhhhh LEME LOOK! so here i am lol thanks for your help!
You should make some changes to your channel. I mean your videos never pop up in my searches for some reason. I also have you subbed and in all my searches you never pop up. I have to REALLY LOOK to find your content which is VERY HELPFULL.
Great video, I’m from U.k. and have just realised there is mass panic about in aquarium community on YT in the U.S.A.regards to many pet hobbies including the fish keeping hobby. I am planning to expand my hobby, and I am part way through building a fish room, so this panic did raise a lot of concern to me that this could indirectly affect the aquatic hobby globally. Nowhere on RUclips have I found it better explained than you have done in the two videos you have uploaded about the changes of wording in the bill. I’d be a fool to say I’m still not concerned for the fish keeping hobby (especially for you guys in the U.S.A), because as you say there is some pretty dangerous language in that rewording, but after watching your videos about it, I ‘think’ I can safely say that I am not in the state of panic and alarm for the hobby (on both sides of the Atlantic) as I might have been had I not seen your videos. Superb content, extremely well presented, providing the the community with facts! Thank You 😊
If amended, it will be in 42 (a)(1). That's the text that will replace "shipment between the continental United States" to "transport between the states". It applies to 42 (b) "Whoever knowingly violates this section...."
@@tarottarantulas It is. The problem is the language is so broad. So if you want to do something about it, right now the best thing to do is to write your senator and ask them to remove the Lacey Act Amendments from the Bill. And thanks for watching.
Most likely, yes. Anything that can be construed as wildlife. Though I'm assuming the common species that's been in the hobby trade would make it to the list pretty quickly but we just don't how they will deal with it, if it passes.
But it is largely about animal welfare. And animal welfare always trumps your “right” to keep any animal you want as a pet. The exotic pet trade is largely out of control and needs to be honed in. Just look at wtf happened in Florida with Burmese pythons and lion fish. Just look at how many examples we have of unethical owners releasing dangerous animals into the wild. Regular people shouldn’t be allowed to have a fucking Russell’s viper because they want to. It motivates poaching which threatens wild populations. The only people that should be able to possess non native animals are experts affiliated with facilities designed to educate, research and promote conservation. The negative impacts of the exotic animal hobby far outweighs “I just wanna own a fuckin Sydney funnel web spider because I think it’s cool”.

In that cae, they would probably be ok being under an exception being medical and all.

Where was the part about banning interstate movement of exotic pets that people already have?
