Tonerider rocksong pickups on a Jet JS-500 electric guitar - DIRTY tones demo

  • I've recently bought a beautiful Jet JS-500 electric guitar and I wasn't satisfied with the stock pickups, so I've decided to order a humbucker set from Tonerider UK. Now, with the new pickups instaled in my Jet JS-500 I can tell you I'm very happy and I can't wait to play it live as soon as possible. Until then, I've recorded a demo to show you how Tonerider rocksong pickup set sounds on a strat HH type guitar. Unfortunately, I couldn't turn up loud my amp, only at 9.30 o'clock , not to disturb my neighbours. This is the second part of my video with the crunch channel and a Ibanez mini tubescreamer added on the solo parts.
I highly recommend Tonerider pickups and Jet electric guitars.
Let me know your opinions about Tonerider pickups and Jet guitars.
    Cheers!
Gear used: Jet JS-500 with Tonerider rocksong pickups, Pyramid electric guitar strings, Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 36 combo guitar amp with Celestion G-12H Anniversary speaker. Sound and image recorded with Samsung A 71.

Pickups are a matter of taste. Now you are satisfied with stock ones, but even your taste may change over the years of playing guitar and listening to your guitar heroes.

@@biris-kerteszarthur-doru6267 Nope, not this one. I might do that with the JT-300 and the Fazley 720 (Which is also made by Jetguitars) that I have. Don't get me wrong, I do like your Toneriders and understand that these guitars are very well suited for mods but there's something going on with this guitar that inspires me, especially in the cleans. I'm afraid I gonna lose that specific sound by changing the pups. For rock, blues, crunch, or funk I've got a bunch of other good guitars, from cheap to expensive. (I play guitar since the '60s). Maybe it's the 'cheapness' that gives it that specific sound that people don't like, but I do like it. Modding video's like yours are very welcome though since it demonstrates the differences.

Thank you man! I much appreciate your comment, but unfortunately I've sold the amp and the Jet guitar, but I bought a Zoom H1n and a new PRS SE electric guitar and I've just uploaded a new video with them on my channel. Wish you all the best!

Hey dude, you probably had 500 k pots here? Perhaps the Rocksongs need 300k pots to sound their best. The overall sound is nice but slightly mid/treble-heavy.

Hello Tom. Thanks for your advice, I will consider changing the pots, but the mid/treble sound is also due to amp character of Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 36. So, I think that not only the pots are to blame.

can you change the pickguard with any like fender or do i have to stick with this pickguard because i want to change to one emg 81 pickup

I'm not sure if this pickguard is compatible with any like fender ones because I didn't attempt to do this, but if you have a friend with a similar pickguard you'd like to buy, you may compare them side by side before you buy it and see if the drill holes match. Cheers!

I want to add my two cents here. I do not have this exact model from Jet Guitars but two JS-300s Strat-copies. I also did a complete pickups/electronics overhaul and ordered cheap squire/fender pickguards from the internet and to my surprise they were actually the exact same shape and dimensions but the screw holes did not line up, so I went ahead and drilled new screw holes. I also had to file down the neck pocket of the pickguard as it was a little bit of a too tight fit for my taste. So I'd recommend ordering a really cheap pickguard from east asia for a few bucks and see how it fits. And one hint on the EMG pickups or pickups with covers in general, you probably need to widen the corners of the pickup slots as they are pretty much round with squire/fender guitars..
