Praise you, God. Thank-you God. Thank-you Jesus. Thank-you, Patty Griffin, for this exquisite song. Happy Weekend that Jesus, our Saviour, died and rose again, to erase and forgive, forever, every one of our sins ❤
My little sister Mary died 11 years ago at 47 years old. At her funeral we played this song. It fit her perfectly. After all these years, I listen to this song and cry...
SOA inspired me to look up this astonishing piece of brilliance. Thank you Patty Griffin for reminding the listener of how infectious lyrics can tell a story.
Mary you're covered in roses, you're covered in ashes You're covered in rain You're covered in babies, you're covered in slashes You're covered in wilderness, you're covered in stains You cast aside the sheet, you cast aside the shroud Of another man, who served the world proud You greet another son, you lose another one On some sunny day and always stay, Mary
I don't know what it is about songs with the title of 'Mary' or songs about Mary (whether Mary, mother of Jesus); all the (non-religious) songs I've heard about her are some of my favorite songs -- lyrically and melodically outstanding songs (and rightfully so for multiple reasons)! I am so happy to say that I can add this song to my list!
Patty Griffin can probe the heart and soul of humanity...the lyrics of enchantment and love blend into a confluence of the stuggle of life with her chords and her wistful voice. Patty can conjure visions of the texts of life with her music and leave you thinking or wondering where the human heart resides in the gardens of life God created.
I think this song is beyond words on how great it is. Yes it was portrayed in SONS very well, but listen to the lyrics and actually listen to it for the lyrics and why this song was made, not just because it was on SONS. This song displays a very important part in everyone's life, and deserves to be listened to.
Couldn't agree with you more... I've watched every moment of Sons but have come back to this very scene many many times... One of the best moments ever. So well acted, scripted, supported with the perfect song...
this really is a beautiful song.I was just re-watching SOA and I thought Maggie Siff was singing this, I'm sure glad I looked it up. I have never heard of Patti Griffin before this, and I'm just blown away! She is great!!
i cried watching the episode that this song played in...as soon as i heard the song i searched it and downloaded it. it was the perfect song for the perfect part and the acting was AMAZING...i have watched the ending to this episode over and over and i still get goosebumps. totally Amazing!!!!
I just bought one of her live albums. She mentions this song was inspired by her grandma, Mary O'connor. Whether people think this is about Mary, the mother of Jesus, is up to our own interpretation. I think this song goes a little bit deeper than we think. IMO, I think the songs represents all the mothers who grief from the loss of their children, and still remain strong throughout their trials, and know that in time, she will eventually heal from her wounds.....just as Gemma did.
So beautiful and sad song, it makes me cry, when I listen this I always thing of SOA. I hope, that 4th season will be soon, this is perfect show. I love it.
@thedarkpanther this is only my opinion but to me this song has nothing to do with divine love but that of a mothers love. That's a love that is so strong. the song make me think of all those mothers that have lost sons and daughter to all those brutal and horrible thing in the world, A mother should not have to bury there child so for that reason I love this song. Ps I am catholic and I don't worship Mary and use the term used is Mother of Christ which she was.
I camped next to her in California, She was covered in treetops in the winter, I am glad someone penned a song about women like her. Many "Marys" of different stripes. It should be popular, because it is important.
For me a reminder that some things need to die to be born again. After the sun comes the rain, after the night, the flowers blossom. Life follows its path, it is about rejoicing. Thank you.
song played when my mother died, so i means a lot to me, also cryied at SOA Balm- when gemma talks about rape... pff always get tears in my eyes when i hear it ! great song !
Love her music reminds me of my brother who passed away before he was even 60. Such beautiful lyrics I loved my brother All his music, the man he was. His sense of humor The WAY HE DANCED My little sister can dance exactly like him
beautiful song never heard after i saw that episode from soa when that lady is telling her story about what happened to her, and i know there is alot more good music out there i havent heard and thnx to soa show i know this artist exist and i hope i keep hearing alot mor good music like this one
this song...it cuts across time and space and religion and hunger and hatred and everywhere and everything in between....except for that dark place thatt fear and greed and methamphetamine has stolen our brethren to.
@thedarkpanther i will give you the mother of god part is over the top part the rest of the prayer is asking for her to pray for them just like priest. Vicars,Minsters and friend and family. And the sooner we stop fighting over how we worship the better because in the end our relationship with god is just that our relationship. Think of how many wars would not have happen if we had been tolerant. Christ preached one thing above all peace and good will to ALL MANKIND
@guitarrebel22 me TOO! that scene was downright moving, wasn't it? so good I had to come look this up.. that's a helluva show; good writing, good talent, and music like this..
Heard this song first time when viewing the sons of anarchy. Perfect song for the scene of Gemma telling Jax and Clay about the raping. Could listen this song all day long!!
This is one of my favorite songs of all time; I listen to it most days and it makes me cry. I am an old man now, but I do not cry often.
Praise you, God. Thank-you God. Thank-you Jesus. Thank-you, Patty Griffin, for this exquisite song. Happy Weekend that Jesus, our Saviour, died and rose again, to erase and forgive, forever, every one of our sins ❤
I'm here too for the same reason.
Brought to tears
My little sister Mary died 11 years ago at 47 years old. At her funeral we played this song. It fit her perfectly. After all these years, I listen to this song and cry...

SOA inspired me to look up this astonishing piece of brilliance. Thank you Patty Griffin for reminding the listener of how infectious lyrics can tell a story.
J. Lamar it did me as well. I outwardly cried like a baby at the end of that episode!!
@@mattgaines4777 Ditto. It ripped my heart out. Still does.
Mary you're covered in roses, you're covered in ashes
You're covered in rain
You're covered in babies, you're covered in slashes
You're covered in wilderness, you're covered in stains
You cast aside the sheet, you cast aside the shroud
Of another man, who served the world proud
You greet another son, you lose another one
On some sunny day and always stay, Mary
Thank you Patty Griffin for this Beautiful Song and Thanks to our God for his Mercy!!
I could listen to this song over and over.....

Beautiful to the core.
That one grabbed me 💔
Very few artists are able to move me the way she does. I could listen to her 24/7 and still have tears in my eyes when I hear this song.
Me too. I love Patty Griffin songs.
I came here to hear this song again after it played during a pivotal scene in S2 E10 of Sons Of Anarchy, a scene I'll never forget. Brilliantly done.
+Rick Estess Such an emotional scene. I cried harder than I would like to admit!!

That beautiful song set the stage for the scene in SOA...Cried my eyes out watching it.... so touching to see them humanized !!!
Patty Griffin can probe the heart and soul of humanity...the lyrics of enchantment and love blend into a confluence of the stuggle of life with her chords and her wistful voice.
