The first time he sings "the hurtin' you keep putting me through" is classic George Jones taking a musical note into George Jones range; almost sounds like a mistake but it's what we like about the extension of his voice
George Jones was, is, and always will be the BEST country singer of all time! They call George Strait the King of country, but the KING OF COUNTRY is right here singing, and that is George Jones. RIP George, forever your music will live on. One of your fans.
There should be no question, he's the greatest country singer, or singer period of all-time, in this history of music... And, this is over 30 years from his first single.. Good Lord, this is where it's at.. Nobody before, nobody then, nobody now, nobody will be greater... Ever
Man, does it get any better than this? I don’t think so! If someone doesn’t like this, then I can tell you, I don’t want to be around that person! A person who doesn’t like this, has no heart!
His voice was at it's absolute peak in the '90s! And live recordings like these are actually better than studio songs in my opinion! His voice did go around 2006 tho, but he was getting old at that point. Mind you Merle Haggard kept his voice until the day he died! George will forever be nr. 1 to me!
I'm so devastated that he's not here I was so upset when he left us all of his songstouch my heart really bad I just calnt stoplaying them even in my car I blast away his songs and sing along loud to them miss you george I'll keep your music going for ever and ever AMEN GOD BLESS YOU AND MISS YOU AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE LOVELY HEART TOUCHING SONGS YOUVE MADE GOD BLESS YOU XXXXX😢
I been listening to George Jones, for more then 50yrs there have been so many great singers but no one ever wrapped a vocal cord around a song like George I think he's best honky tonk singer ever, we'll miss him dearly!!
No matter how many times I listen to this, it always leaves you with just one thought... "damn that man can SING"!!! No fancy stage show, no auto-tune, just pure raw talent. The man breathed country GOLD.
oh this is just amazing, the best live vocal you will find anywhere , from the worlds GREATEST country singer, why he is called the best , if you are lookin for perfection , this is it
I think this was the best version of the possum! He was literally in his prime here an not only that but I think this was around the time that he had been sober for a good 5 or 10 years! Imagine how good he would have been had he been sober his whole career! His alcohol addiction definetly held him back!! I think George Jones is the greatest comeback story in all of country! Don’t know why we havnt gotten a biopic movie!!
I think that at this point in Jones's life- in his late 60's he had MASTERED his talent. I heard around the year 2002 he tore one of his vocal chords and never recovered because he wouldnt take time off the road as the doctor reccomended. But, in my personal opinion, Jones is one of the most talented singers ever to walk this planet
KLUNKET couldn't agree with you more. The 'connaisseurs' always state that Possum's best works were in the fifties and sixties. I disovered George Jones at an older age and with that learned to appreciate his earlier stuff as well. However, his vocal range really peaked at an age were most great singers would've lost the cutting edge of their younger years.
I think it was earlier than '02. Listen to his album The Rock:Stone Cold Country and you can tell it was weakened by then. Might've been complications from the wreck in '99.
George is by far the best singer ever. It's a natural talent and he was born with a golden voice. I'm so glad we all got to experience this man's voice
Ain't it though?!?! Jones is only man in the world who could turn the word "on" into 5 syllables, and do it with such style it just makes the hair on your neck stand at attention...
Correct. We now have torn up levi people who practiced a twang in their voice and try singing and mincing hard rock crap with country and ccall it country. I am sorry its not country. These are the groups that are fingering country. I blame many country djs for promoting this same crap. Most djs can only remember country from the past ten years which was mostly crap. Vome on lets push and play the Hag and Reeves and jones and Willy snd Whitley
The range in the voice is phenomenal.. Thats why George is the best.. He lived his songs.. That's why George is the best... Love to George from Scotland.. 👍 💛
I'm the same way every darn time Iisten to this... it's like the man performs surgery with words... or like his throat has a foot pedal in it or something. You know, I have seen Jones in concert more than a dozen times, and (some may argue) but I think he was at his best in the 1990's. I seen shows during that time where he got a standing ovation after nearly every song, and people never even sat down for the last 3 or 4 songs of the show. He was ALWAYS perfect though. Just love the ol' Possum
I’d go ballistic if radio stations just flooded the air waves with his and Kristofferson s music. I don’t think then that today’s fans would listen to today’s so called country music anymore. 😉
Vocal perfefection right there, I think he was at the top of his game at this time, using his lower voice tones like he never had before. The vocal chord theory makes sense, I remember seeing him on the opry back around 2002 or so, and noticed he had lost something. I actually heard him recently, and I thought he sounds better now than he did 2 years ago. None the less, he's still awesome at 80!!
George is already in my prayers, I heard he has a pretty severe upper respitory infection but is doing better and he is to be released today....lets hope!!!
I just read an update that stated he will not be released today, but will remain hospitalized until at least Tuesday. I sure hope the prayers are pouring in!!
Oh I've come to the point where I've had one too many And one short of having too few Oh my bottle of freedom is one drink from empty And I'm back down to hung up on you I come here to escape and some say too often But not as much as I would like to Cause as high as I get is how low I'll be fallin' Oh back down to hung up on you Feeling nothing at all for awhile sure feels better Than the hurtin' you're puttin' me through But as sure as I am of the sunrise tomorrow I'll be back down to hung up on you [ steel ] Feeling nothing at all... Yes as sure as I am of the sunrise tomorrow I'll be back down to hung up on you
The drinking never killed his iconic sound.
Fact of life music. Love George
The first time he sings "the hurtin' you keep putting me through" is classic George Jones taking a musical note into George Jones range; almost sounds like a mistake but it's what we like about the extension of his voice
I miss him so much he was country music
I've listened to George full time for 40yrs. The man's voice still stands the hair up on my arm. R.i.p George , I'll see you soon.
George Jones was, is, and always will be the BEST country singer of all time! They call George Strait the King of country, but the KING OF COUNTRY is right here singing, and that is George Jones. RIP George, forever your music will live on. One of your fans.
I love George voice and he has always been my favorite country singer. He has always had the best attitude with his audience.

The True King of Country Music and any genre of music!!
Possum was and always be The King of Country you are so right!!!!
This is the first time that I have listen to this song and I got chills all over. George Jones is the best singer that there ever was!
Took control of every show whilst capturing the audience with this great voice❤
There should be no question, he's the greatest country singer, or singer period of all-time, in this history of music... And, this is over 30 years from his first single.. Good Lord, this is where it's at.. Nobody before, nobody then, nobody now, nobody will be greater... Ever
Still listening to George
So sad that this only has 100k views yet a song about money drugs and cars can get 20 million
Man, does it get any better than this? I don’t think so! If someone doesn’t like this, then I can tell you, I don’t want to be around that person! A person who doesn’t like this, has no heart!
George Jones looks changed over the years, his attitude changed over the years, but, his voice never changed at all, it is still pure gold at his age.
His voice was at it's absolute peak in the '90s! And live recordings like these are actually better than studio songs in my opinion! His voice did go around 2006 tho, but he was getting old at that point. Mind you Merle Haggard kept his voice until the day he died! George will forever be nr. 1 to me!
@@Rx37LegacyI agree. He was in prime voice in You Oughta Be here with Me album

There will never be anyone who can sing heartbreaking songs like George
Greatest country singer that ever lived!!!
I'm so devastated that he's not here I was so upset when he left us all of his songstouch my heart really bad I just calnt stoplaying them even in my car I blast away his songs and sing along loud to them miss you george I'll keep your music going for ever and ever AMEN GOD BLESS YOU AND MISS YOU AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE LOVELY HEART TOUCHING SONGS YOUVE MADE GOD BLESS YOU XXXXX😢

very few can do what he does,my favorite singer of all times
When he draws them words out with the shake of his head, it's just the best.
Ain't it though?!?! Jones is only man in the world who could turn the word "on" into 5 syllables, and do it with such style it just makes the hair on your neck stand at attention...

We are losing our Giant TRUE Country entertainers--Possum and the Hag--best voices ever. RIP

Perfection👌🏽 no one before him or ever after him will be able to drag a song out like he did
I'm the same way every darn time Iisten to this... it's like the man performs surgery with words... or like his throat has a foot pedal in it or something.

Love hearing George he is the best . The way he sings each word. Can t beat George s singing voice
One of his best & one of my favorites!!!
I love country music
Always amazed me how Jones could be singing in the nasal whine and then for a few notes drop down to a real baritone level.
Thank you very much for your song i like all of them
