George Allen’s winning percentage as an NFL coach was one of the highest ever. On July 25, 1981, my broadcast partner Larry Cotlar and I interviewed George on WHO-AM’s Saturday Sportsline program. At the time of this interview, Allen was out of coaching, but later coached in the original version of the USFL and one final year at Long Beach State. He died on December 31, 1990, shortly after his tenure at Long Beach State. I’m Michael D. Lee, and I worked at WHO-AM from 1980-1983 as a newscaster, news reporter, sports talk show host and college basketball play-by-play announcer.
There is a slight glitch around the 7:20 mark of the interview, attributable to the original audio cassette stopping mid-stream. I started it up again, but there is a bit of overlap in the audio.
