Marcel was an extrodinary man, his bravery during world war 2 saving 100s of children whilst under Nazi occupation was true heroism. He was a born performer, gifted and expressive. I think being a mime is instinctive for them, it can't be taught, their fluidity, portrayal of emotions and artistary that is emotive. He was a brave genius and I'm so glad he achieved his true passion in life after all he went through.
Thank you so much for your beautiful tribute to the Master. I have passed my admiration for his Work and Genius to my daughters and grand children. There is no month when i do not watch Mime Marceau at least once.
An absolute master of physicality & an inspiration for so many. It's a shame that miming & clowning are so underappreciated these days; I think they're much needed in dark times like these.
He inspired even Michael Jackson. Michael has mentioned Marcel a couple times, and met him. I wish Marcel was still alive. 😞 I LOVE this kind of expression. Charlie Chaplin is another expressive person, he’s great too.
You are absolutely right; though there were a lot of clowning schools in the UK about 20+ years ago - well, in Bristol anyway! Miming and clowning would be my field, included in it :) Thanks!!
Elizabeth Brower I got to see him shortly before he left this earth... It was a dream of mine to see him. I think it was random that I saw he was performing too. I am so happy. I never lived out my dream to be a mime. I guess it's never too late though.
The mime is a fascinating example of speciation. Once thought to be simple case of albinism among the clown species, mimes are now recognized as a unique and individual species of the genus Corydon. The first individual mimes were thought to originate in France during the early 1400's, this is where the first cases of albinism were reported, it should be noted at this time that flocks of clowns were emigrating here, the common theory is that they were in search of new food sources. However a the rise of Joan and arc prevented their migration back to their traditional spawning pools, mimes, like all clowns cannot stand the sight of a cross, and so were forced to remain, isolated from the larger population. However after Joan's death at the stake, no doubt to clown politics, they were able to travel back through Europe. However the decades of isolation and abundance of wine, a known breeding excelerant, caused a unique change in the clowns. All of them now carried the albino gene and although they can interbreed with other clown subspecies, these offspring are always sterile. Thank the almighty for small miracles. One unique trait of the mime is their lack of verbal communication, all mimes are mute, this is thought to be caused by their albino genes that also give them their unique coloration. However like all clowns they have an unquenchable thirst for human blood, especially those of small bright eyed children. Many clowns often stalk their pray from nests built in abandoned theme parks and sewers. Let it be noted that all mimes in this film were raised in captivity by humans and had their handlers nearby at all times. Please never approach a clown in the wild, as they are an unpredictable and territorial species. Nothing is more dangerous than a mother clown protecting her chicks. Clowns are not pets and dozens are put down each year do to attacks on their owners. But you can help, please spread the word, clowns belong in the wild. Don't give your money to clown handlers for birthday entertainment, rodeos, and circuses, as these poor creatures are often taken from their mothers as chicks, mistreated, and mishandled. Remember you can help return clowns to the wild.
I was blessed enough to have seen the master years ago; I still have the Playlist. Even Robin Williams studied Marcel. Do you know why Marcel started miming? Because he was in Concentration camps, & it was his way of keeping the children entertained.
Did you know this ? In french versions of Pokemon games in Kanto Gen1, the Mr.Mime you get on an exchange from a NPC is called "Marcel" in reference to him.
Saw him (Bip), in 1972 (or 1973) at the University of Puerto Rico Theater, (for free by presenting my student ID). A special unforgettable night indeed!
I'm guessing by the looks of it Marcel Marceau was the first man alive to create the Moon Walk not James Brown or Michael Jackson Marcel was way ahead of his time who would have thought that Marcel Marceau's Mime of the Moon Walking would have become a Universally acclaimed Dance for Millions across the World Globally to see...Legends such as Marcel never die they just pass on their animated skills and talent to the younger Generation to inspire...❤ Respect
I know mimes are considered a sort of one-shot joke of "everyone hates this thing," but if viewed as a highly stylized form of dance or acting it might give a different appreciation for the skill involved. Also, his comedic timing (and just...the innocence of something meant to bring joy with no downside) deserve more than just "ugh, mimes are creepy"
идейный антифашист - восхищающий факт в его биографии... сотни спасенных жизней от концлагерей, невзирая на застенки гестапо самолично, непосредственно!! Великий мим и человек!!
This is kinda off topic but that background music is something I would listen to on a warm day of October whilst drinking tea in my living room and reading a book
By the way Robin Williams was a Mime Artist by profession before he started Stand up comedy and Acting in films and so was David Bovie and quite a few famous people we do not associate with the Silent Art form.
@@DrupadGaonkar because of this comment i found a badass picture of robin williams miming with a buddy in the 70's in central park when mimes were the hip aesthetic around there.. thank you

If I was granted invisibility for one day I'd go to Paris and find a mime and beat the crap out of him and the applause from the crowd would be outstanding!

It’s like calling a clown with a kazoo a genius
