What is Pashmina ?
Pashmina ( or pashm ) is Finest Cashmere wool , made from hair ( underfur) of kashmir goat (changthang). native to high altitude of ladakh.
pashmina Fabric is often used as shawls or wraps, but can also be made into other types of clothing such as scarves, hats, and gloves.

in addition to world’s oldest fabrics, pashmina shawls are synonymous with elegance and luxury , pashmina wool is incredibly light weight ,fine, and exceptionally warm .
pashmina shawls are knitted by artisans who have perfected their craft over generation of practice , all the steps from combing Raw cashmere , spinning
and weaving is carried out traditionally by hand . The whole process takes up to two years, but the result is well worth it.

Pashmina Vs Cashmere: Difference
Pashmina is made exclusively from the hair ( undercoat ) of changthang goat of Ladakh while generic cashmere wool is made from some other breeds of himalyan goat native to
mongolia , china , afghanistan and australia .
diameter of pashmina ranges from 12-16 microns whiles generic cashmere ranges from 12-21 microns,
pashmina can only be handcrafted while cashmere is machine knitted , hence pashmina is expensive then cashmere.
pashmina is more soft , thin and light weigted then cashmere.
How Pashmina Cashmere is Made :
The process begins with combing out the wool to separate it into lengths according to thickness.
It’s then spun into yarn before being woven into fabric, giving it its characteristic texture.
Then it is hand-woven on a loom, using techniques that have been passed down for generations,
The approximate time put into producing a single traditional pashmina stole (70x200cm) is 180 hours.

Gulab Singh Dogra.
It was under King akbars period when first pashmina shawl reached European Royalities , Gifted to Empress Joséphine where it bacame famous becouse it looked rich,
had extensive ornamentation, artistic qualities, and was made of expensive raw materials.

One more identification is the edges of Pashmina "Pallu" will have furry hairs/looms whereas synthetic will have Threads. Rub them & you'll notice the difference, synthetic threads won't blend in your fingers but pure will blend.

Please also mention that pashmina is harvested in Ladakh only. And there is no pashmina goat (changra) is found in Ladakh only. Also mention that that pure pashmina goat is never found in Kashmir
