Being a Cherokee too, Will Rogers is my hero, that began while learning our Cherokee language and culture from my grandparents. Will Rogers was the first hero outside of my family since I was 4 years old. I have every book he ever wrote and includes books written about him by his family or close friends. In my 61 years since I learned about him, I've never wavered in my admiration. My wife and I have a little 60-acre horse farm and my study is covered in Will Rogers memorabilia and books. Will's kindness and humanity have guided my life's journey throughout. My wife finds Will Rogers as much a hero as I do. She's the best person I've ever known. I enjoyed you video about Will. As we Cherokees say, wado or thank you for this video. It's always nice to run across more interesting information about Will, who's allegedly out cousin through the Vann family. That's according to my cousin, she's the genealogist of our family. Also, Will Rogers is the only humorist to be honored by having his likeness in Statuary Hall in Washington, D.C. Sgi, donadgohvi.
Rogers is still a huge deal in Oklahoma to this day. Aside from the turnpike, We learn about him in schools, other highways and buildings are named after him, and you can find several statues of him around the state. He was a beacon of light to Oklahomans in the Great Depression. He was far more than just an entertainer. He was something else entirely. He was a symbol of hope during some of the toughest years of America’s existence.
I always knew Will as the Cherokee Kid. He is famous for his one-liners. The people who get stuff for free are the first ones to complain. The income tax is going to make liars out of all of us. Thanks, Will. His movie The Roping Fool is a must-watch. When he lassos the mouse, I had to laugh.
Excellent video! Im an Okie from Muskogee and Will Rogers was one of my favorite people. I have been to that memorial several times in my 74 years and would like to go again. Loved the photos and video clips. Really enjoyed it.😊
I've been there, too! It IS A very impressive museum. The view from the graves is beautiful. I recommend it. It's in Claremore, OK, just outside of Tulsa.
Rogers was a media giant. His newspaper columns were read everywhere. A major movie and radio star, Edward, Prince of Wales was delight deco have lunch with him. Good friend of Jack Garner, FDR’s conservative VP.and a fellow rancher.
Good video and I can appreciate your effort. However, in 1935 Alaska was NOT part of the US as stated in the video. Alaska did not become apart of the US until 1959. Just fyi.
It's said that Will said he never met a man he didn't like. James McMurtry wrote a song called 'For All I Know", the salient line being "course you had that boyfriend with the Chevrolet he never met Will Rogers I'd be willing to say yeah it's safe to say he never met Will Rogers".
Thanks, other commenters, for warning me about the clickbait title. This might actually be a good bio video about Will Rogers; I'll never know because I refuse to watch videos with known clickbait titles.
The part about Rogers hitching a ride as far as Alaska with Post is comical, more likely the two were headed to the South Pacific to get an idea of the Japanese military build up right before the war. The airplane was designed more for reconnaissance than touring the globe, equipped with pontoons for island hopping, ocean landings, etc. Post was one of the most celebrated pilots in the world having been the first aviator to circumnavigate the globe, an easy task for a flyer of his caliber to transport a world renowned journalist such as Will Rogers writing down observations.
Did I miss something? He very clearly captured the heart of America but how did he lose it? After he death he was just as revered as before. Clickbait is not cool
If Roger’s ever was a non-partisan, it wasn’t for long. He was well-known for the famous phrase…”I’m not a member of any organized political party, I’m a Democrat.” 😁
People dont realize what a phenom Will Rogers was - he did things with a rope that's unequalled till this day - if there was one person I'd like to have a conversation with it would be a hard choice - there would be 3 - Ronnie VanZant, Gene Autry and Will Rogers
The title is completely silly and certainly not true…. Will Rogers was probably the most famous man in America during his time. Oklahomans practically revered him and he is still a huge deal in the state to this day. His charming boyish grin, humor, intelligence, and ability to interact with anyone, no matter their station in life, made him wildly popular but especially so among the working class. In short, he was a superstar of his time and most certainly deserved a better narrator to tell his story here.
@ “Will Rogers was a beloved American idol famous for his cheery, go-getter screen presence. But that image was shattered as soon as the details of his unspeakable death came out.” Is pretty derogatory. His image was never ‘shattered’.
@@RingYourDoorbell So funny 😅. I’m not joking though! I clicked on it because I thought it was Mr Rogers and I got confused hearing he could lasso ropes. I thought “Mr Rogers lasso’d ropes?” 🤷🏼♀️😂😂😂
Will Rogers, who never encountered Richard Nixon said "I never met a man I didn't like". There was a good bumper sticker about that decades ago: trump?
Will Rogers wanted a businessman to run our nation. Saying: "Government is the biggest business in America." (Being a D...he wanted N A Z I lover Henry Ford).😮 😢 But, now we finally have Trump & MAGA. 😊❤🎉❤🎉😊
Absolutely every person alive will regret Trump. He is insane and very evil. Best friends with Jeffery Ebstein for 15 years. You will soon know what I am saying is true. The love of money is the root of all evil and nobody loves money more than Trump. The Democrats would be no better. Left wing right wing same vulture. All Presidents are selected not elected. Franklin Delano Roosevelt

“His image as a good guy was shattered when he died” What kind of foolishness is that?? Clickbait shoddy journalism
He was a giant...and an angel. Thanks.
Will Rogers was beloved by millions of people. A hero of the people.
My granddad (who passed away in 2015 at age 92) told me that Will Rogers was his childhood idol and that he cried when WR died.

There is also Will Rogers State Park near Los Angeles.
My parents came of age in the 1930's. I heard quite a bit about Rogers growing up.

As a kid in Alabama in the 70s, even we knew all about Will Rogers! A great American.
Such a handsome man❤
I remember my Mother saing “Will Rogers says…” but didn’t know what that meant until now. Thanks for the show. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
I showed my students several clips of Rogers’ talent with the lasso and all of them said it was fake!!!!
I liked this video, but the title is an insult to the viewers.

How did Will Rogers 'lose America's heart' with his tragic plane crash death? He had done nothing wrong or shameful!
If Roger’s ever was a non-partisan, it wasn’t for long. He was well-known for the famous phrase…”I’m not a member of any organized political party, I’m a Democrat.” 😁
I used to work at an elementary school in Texas named after Will Rogers.
I can top that. I'm a plankowner in the only U.S. Navy ship named for him.
Wiley Post was a great man. He developed the suits the astronaut s still wear today.
Great narrative on an impressive figure in America.
