As I kid I used to sit at the lighthouse & look at the north side of Nazare. Amazed by how huge the waves were. It was some 100 years back the original nazare, where fisherman would venture out with boats & brave the waves. Times seemed to have changed for them & it became too difficult. It was abandoned for most of the 1900's. There are cases of quicksand developing due to the volume of water that passes over it. Do not go there thinking its a novelty place.

And you guys haven't even seen the best of it. There was one time that the waves were breaking in such a huge way that the splash against the stone wall was rising well above the lighthouse. That day should have been way above 100 feet.
