    Thanks for the effort Bro, well done. Being a fossil and ex MX rider, these things still keep my juices flowing. I still love my MX bikes, but twenty minutes on my YZ and I have horrendous arm pump that will last the rest of the day. Like seriously I cant even pick up a beer. I am 60 and fit but that's life. Doing your suspension isn't the black art it use to be. But you can really stuff up a bike if you don't know what your doing. It would take an hour to explain the ins and outs of it. Sag is the first base on any suspension and they wont work for you without that done first, so maybe a three part series on it with someone who really knows how its done would be excellent. Not just the set up, but maintenance and knowing when you've blown a seal so forth would help as well.

      Hey mate dude have you ridden a GOOD ebike? defo get on one you will love it make sure you get some good good brakes on them! Thanks for the tips I do know what I'm doing on Suspenion it just takes me time and I find it takes me a few weeks for a few reasons. I dont start pushing the bike really hard for a few weeks and then I really start tuning no point tuning for 80%

      @@SamsBikes Base Levo and luv it. Sorry it wasn't really aimed at you. I've watched a lot of reviews. So many are all about the motor, and so many more about modding this and that. One like you say is brakes. You can spend a lot changing callipers. Or you can try out different pads cheaply instead. Most times you'll get the feel your looking for. Same goes for suspension. Air shocks being so much easier then coils. My life has been racing, instructing and licensing, and even though old and broken I'm not prepared to give it up yet. Just see every day guys throwing good cash at things that wont make a difference to them on the bike. It's already there, they're just not utilising it. Seats, tyres and bar bends are very personal and can go a long way to helping you get the best out of you. Mostly the rest is just bling for mine. Specially if your not doing comps.
      I do love the Ebikes. I find them very ... organic to ride, great for balance disciplines and focus. But I get my dirties for dealer cost so it makes it hard to upgrade the Levo. Even though only after to years it's pretty trashed

    Also good to see tire control. I feel that my bike’s power delivery is hugely affected by tires. The big eddie 2.8 is a great tire but as soon as I start to climb the motor noticeably struggles compared to a lighter tire.

    • @SamsBikes

      Yea mate I kinda think 2.6 is the sweet spot. I’ve gone to 2.4 on the Levo for now but I’ll change back to 2.6 I think

      @@SamsBikes this is super true.. tire compound and pressure plays a big role in range... i have the canyon spectral and just changed out my rear to the E wild enduro michellins... great tire... but i cant seem to get traction on some climbs sometimes.. but that also has to do with 30 psi that Im running.. also I think cush core is a must on e bikes especially for the rear. One of the most common problems are rear wheel/hub issues due to the weight of the bike. cush core mitigates some of these problems..

    Really great video Sam. Appreciate how you are setting out to produce "real world" information on this range test. As we all know everyone's experience is different, depending on their fitness, the terrain, etc, but I think this is a great guide. I ride the Gen 2 levo, which I love, however it's nice to see your experiences with the Gen 3. I would certainly appreciate the mullet setup with the tighter geometry, however might wait a little bit before changing :) Thanks once again. Richie

    I am riding a XL spectral ON first gen with 504w battery and I weigh about 100kg, 46 years and usually get about 24km with 1200m climbing in eco/trail. Most my riding is up fire roads and enduro trails. But find by the time my battery is done I am physically tired and that's when mistakes and accidents happen. Yes sometimes have battery anxiety but sometimes ebike can foul you into thinking you have more energy than you have.

    Awesome as always Sam! Sucks that Specialized doesn't want Gen 2 Levos to be able to use the Mastermind. I've seen folks already retrofit into a Gen 2 with no issues so it looks like with a new software update (hard to call it an update more like a back date). I really hope they change this. Great review! Thank you. Beginner here. I will test ride next week and a Levo Expert is on hold for me. For the Expert, anything you think might need upgrading? Brakes for example? Also I weigh 70kg and my FTP is 3.5 w/kg (I'm old...) so do you think I can get a bit more range and climb out of the bike than the numbers you have posted? I ask is because I prefer to ride to the trails and living in a city center that will mean maybe 20 or 30 kms just to get to the base of the trails. I guess I can either no use any e-power or at minimum maybe 10% boost?

    • @SamsBikes

      Thanks mate, if I’m honest the bike is 100% fine stock just ride it for a month before doing anything, and yes if you use micro tune you can get a lot more range out of the battery. It’s a balance between how much you do and the motor. Thanks 🙏 enjoy

    What’s up Sam! Love the channel. Just picked up my 2022 Levo Expert yesterday and wondered what your thoughts are about an air shaft upgrade to 170mm? I currently ride a very plush Capra Elite with 170/170 and coil. My plan is to ride everything with the Levo..drops, jumps, rocks and roots! I’m very excited to ride the Levo but unfortunately I’m fighting the flu (hopefully not the Vid19)! Anyways, love to hear your thoughts!

    Hi mate, after your opinion if thats cool.
    I'm in the market for my first emtb and wanting an all rounder for trails, dh and getting some miles in. I was fairly set on waiting on the Gen3 levo comp to be released. But I've been notified of a Commencal Meta Power essential 29er in stock and also the canyon torque on 8 or 9. All good all rounders from research and priced similarly, the Commencal and canyon are online but can be with me within a shorter period. Whereas the the Levo comp hasn't even been released and could be months if not the end of the year!! But would be from a local shop with the better support and warranty and i prefer the neat user interface.
    Any advice would be much appreciated?
    Thanks Elliot

    • @SamsBikes
      @SamsBikes  3 года назад

      Hey Elliot thanks for the question, ok its a hard one.... I think you could be waiting some time for the Levo seeing its not even released yet and you can get the Meta now, mabe go for the Meta I have heard very good things about that bike and as you know I have been testing the Meta SX ( long term review this sunday ) 100% the range is better on the Levo and not by a small Margin 1500 meters of vertical climbing on the Levo and 1100 on the Meta. The Torque is not your bike its more a Bike park bike wont be go at much else and a small battery. I say go for the Meta and maybe sell up when you can get the Levo later in the year its nice to have local bike support. Good luck with it.

I know other riders on acoustic bikes often pass comments saying that your cheating on an ebike but I love my normal ebike and feel I don't need to de restrict it, that in my personal opinion is definitely cheating if you fit a chip or cheat box. • @mattx4253
    @mattx4253 3 года назад +1

    70% peak power isn't the average ride lol. Most people use 100 in trail. This will increase range by possible 30% or more. The issue is that each ride will be different for people in different places. You would be better off doing the same loop on different bikes until the battery cuts out at max power in turbo to remove variables

  • @onathanj
    @onathanj 3 года назад

    If the Levo happens to have slightly better range than Shimano and Bosch does not matter. The Levo motor will fail. So the question that should be asked is: do you want a reliable motor like Shimano - or a motor that will have to be replaced over and over again, which will result on enormous environmental waste as well as long period where you have no bike to ride. Which would you prefer?

    I don’t if you really say the reality but I both This S work 5 days ago , and had problem after 40 mins ride , gear box blocked. Then the dealer resolved the problem. And yesterday I have problem with batterie . After 30 mis ride , engine turns off. It turned off 40times , and saying sometimes there is no batterie sometime. Well I will bring it back now but I am really disappointed as I paid a lot of money. It s the most expensive bike in the shop

    I rented a Focus Jam the other day and noticed that when coasting down the trail the beyond 25 kph I experienced something like a cruise control effect where the Bosch motor felt like it was pulling the bike back, to 25 kph. I haven't noticed this on the Specialised SL and wonder whether it is something peculiar to the Bosch motor ? Anybody experienced a similar effect on other motors ?

      I turn down the power-range settings on my 2018 Levo to 10% under what it shipped with. I'm 6ft / 210lbs., suspension tuned to my weight, new battery (warranty / lights) running Maxxis Minion DHR II 'Plus' size rubber at 25psi. I'm getting about 40km. riding with a mix of Eco (80%) / Trail (15%) / Turbo (5%). I live in the Okanagan Valley in BC, Canada, and it's basically a moderately steep valley, so all of the decent riding is UP!

    Hey Sam, where did you get the information that Specialized is going to kill Mastermind gen 2 compatability by software update? Currently there are already some videos online proofing it's 100% compatibility even micro tune (as shown in mtbr's video).
    Would be worth a little shitstorm I think, now the world knows for sure it would work just fine. I'd seriously consider not buying any Specialized bike again if they choose this route.
