When talking about Dream Theater, often people overlook what an incredible piece Stream of Consciousness is, easily one of Dream Theater's bests songs, but also of the genre. Te guitar works in here hook you up from one section to the next like butter. Increadible dispplay of voice leading, theme and repetition, theme and variations... it goes through some of the most impressive compositional skills along with some Pettrucci's arsenal of acrobatics. Quite honestly is a complete display of team work as well. muah* chef's kiss
This is awesome! You are on point. I've always wanted to learn the guitar solos, but the tabs alone seemed way too intimidating. This really helps visualize what is going on. It helped me get working on them one note at a time. Thank you!
Lockdown log, day 343. Dream Theater's 'Stream of consciousness' to be new MoSP (Maintenance of Sanity Project) after Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'. Might have opposite effect on sanity but determined anyway.. Found crazy guy on youtube making it look easy, with tab. Will try and copy. MoSP to be considered completed when able to play riffs minus the solo's. Forget the solo's. Don't even think it about the solo's. Message to Santiago: If I do not report back with news of either success or failure, consider me lost.
Dude, those trills with double fingers was rad! When I observed, I originally thought you were trippen over it. I zoomed in & was like "whoa no shit😱". Ive tapped & trilled in this way, but never double fingered on the same fret. Thats a fine detail. Anyways, was gonna put my own version out, but how the hell can I compete with this. I was proud to learn it by ear, knowing im missing parts; but I did it all tuned to C#. Great, back to the learning table. No wonder I could never figure out the open string section in the bridge. I knew it was in there, but never knew it had to be tuned this way for that purpose. I simply always approach a song, listening to the lowest note, then tuning the guitar as low as the key its played in; then teach myself accordingly. Usually played "wrong" but sounds good with my own style (still keeping it tight though). Anyways, you did great.
@@santiagoruiz3086Thanks for your encouragment. But to be honest, I clearly have a lot to fix with my “interpretation”. Theres clearly no way I can match you. You shot lazers through the screen & people exploded🤘🏼. Ironically, Ive been also playing it on my identical JP6. Thats the one thing I was like “nawww man, no way😱”. Im a little discouraged to be honest. My nut needs replacement & a fret job; theres REALLY bad choking going on & baring is out of tune. Even if I played it like you, you would hear the issue. The only thing that I criticise with you in this, is that its so well played, I can hear & see that you approach it as if they are each separate sections. Like, you learnt it by breaking it down in sections, or “licks”. And so, although its inpressive, I can see that your mind is focused on the execution of each section. So what happens is, vibe or feel suffers, as perfection becomes the focus. Which obviously is what is needed, to keep things really tight. My approach is tight, but I naturally add little muted or additional notes, to compliment Portnoys fills. In band situations, ive always had to do this, in order to find my own pocket that adds to the mix. It was tough when there was a sax player running all over me; I kept having to create new parts, where she couldnt follow (she was a jammer so I understand why she followed). Without JP in the mix, my additions or changes fit nicely. But with JP in the mix, my additions sounds “sloppy”, even though they are on parre with Portnoy. Thats always been my issue. How much showmanship & improve I can naturally put in (I’m a jammer but also royal conservatory trained in piano), yet not add so much where it takes away from the tightness of the song. I have this internal struggle between staying original, vs being a copycat. Cause on 1 hand, the copycat approach is amazing to be so spot on & flawless, but the originality approach keeps a creative side that opens potential for “happy mistakes”. And happy mistakes sometimes can be as cool as playing spot on perfectly. So, im capable to copy, but it takes a bit of my soul away. But ya, thanks for responding.
Hey man. I just wanted to say thank you for your inspiration & encouragement. I work so much these days that I don’t get time to play. Doing RUclips videos makes me really sick and stressed out and I no longer enjoy all the editing & the problems with software issues. Only to be hit with copy write claims. I know my playing is not as good as yours, but that doesn’t mean I can’t return the favour and showing you a little bit of how you inspired me. So thank you so much.
@@GeeMorno I often feel the same about doing youtube videos, sometimes it's stressful. I really appreciate when someone leaves a comment like this on my videos, it motivates me a lot to have such nice people watching me. I wish you good luck in every future project you have! :)

Tienes algún estudio oficial de guitarra o de donde aprendiste a manejar los dedos con ese nivel tan profesional, saludos, y buen trabajo el que haces, de compartir tu talento con todos los apasionados de la música
Oh one more thing. How do you do these, without getting copy-write claims? I keep getting strikes & claims. And heres a response to the pickup switch comment you replied to (I can find it by scrolling & tried to respond through clicking it on my email, but theres an error code).: Really? But I zoomed in & it appears as though you knocked it into middle. Yet I didn’t hear the volume drop, but I also no longer heard neck. Yet, I also dont hear middle. So my ears & eyes are playing tricks on me. Did you pre record it & then film yourself playing along to the recording afterwards? I know theres a video edit at the solo. So Im a bit confused.
No prerecording, just the sections recorded separately. There is a small section in the solo that i played on the bridge pickup, then i went back to the neck pickup and after that I think I got confused while playing and thought I had to switch to the bridge pickup but if you look closely I never did the switch, I noticed before switching.
And about the copyright, I can’t evade claims, almost every video I have can't be monetized and some of them are banned in some countries, I get claims every time.
Hey man. Sorry for the late response. I just wanted to thank you for your encouragement. Im not very confident anymore in my playing (I work a lot these days & my playing has suffered). I suspect John Petrucci has 6 fingers in his left hand...
ONLY 6!!!
@@laoude7890 yeah this song is impossible with 6 he has maybe like 10
Those sweep runs in the solo were so clean I could eat off of them
Im impressed by how close you nailed the tone compared to the real recording.
I've been watching it for 2 days, Non Stop!
