This is one of (very) few songs that have made me legitimately cry. The acoustics and electric synths in the background, mixed with Thom Yorke’s vocal delivery and the lyrical content makes this track an emotional rollercoaster.
I legitimately cry every time I hear this song. It's so damn personable.
Fun fact: When they were recording it they were having a tough time nailing the ending so they took a break and went out to a pub to get their minds off of the recording. When they returned the first take they took is the one you hear on the album and as soon as the vocals ended Tom Yorke immediately burst into tears.
It's such a damn good song.
"Exit music for a film" is another one for me.
hits different when you cry :(
Listened to this song a lot after my gf cheated on me
You should find the Glastonbury (I think 97 performance) of fake plastic trees live.. I cry like a baby
ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS EVER
The single greatest
THE GREATEST BAND EVER!!!
So good! Can't even begin to explain just how much I listened to them through my cancer treatment.
Facts!
Dam right..Best ì say
The allure of commercialism, then its inevitable lack of depth, and the people who buy in and try to transform themselves into commodities. So glad this song has resurfaced, I loved it when this album first came out.
Resurfaced? Wdym
To the masses....
I was too angry when "The Bends" came out so I couldn't get into Radiohead's sound. But I came around to them when "Kid A" came out and got hooked on "Amnesiac" in '01 so I was only a few years late.
Tbh the bends and Radiohead as a whole as always been pretty popular around the internet
It came out in 94, I think. I knew it then, before the internet....I see what you mean though...guess it was just 'there' the whole time. That's a good thing...
"if I could be who you wanted all the time" I cry every time I hear that part lol
:3
Singing this song after a break up… that part hits different.. I cry every time too
same here every single time.
When he says "but gravity always wins" he's talking about how despite all the plastic surgery people get to look perky and young, natural force will inevitably make you look old and saggy.
It just means we can't fight time.
@@jasonmoran5152 It means what I typed but thanks for your unnecessary oversimplification.
@@pockit5107 you over complicated it. It's not about plastic surgery.
jason moran Yes it is. Read the lyrics.
@@SvenTviking no its not, understand the meaning.
I appreciate that you actually listen to the whole song and then react.
exactly
One of my favorite songs of all time.
Listen to "Paranoid Android", "Exit Music (For A Film)" or "Karma Police" from OK Computer, it is a masterpiece!
Agreed.
I also agree
Josh Cohen plays brilliant piano interpretations of Radiohead
Also “No Surprises”
and how to Disappear completely from Kid A
I had this on cassette tape and it was lent to me by lisa Mcmurray 20 years ago . If you're out there , this song always makes me think of you . Best wishes from Andy Nixon .
Hail to the Thief.
@@grrr.9998 well , it wasn't stolen . She had a lot of issues and disappeared due to a mental breakdown + drugs . She was a fantastic friend and I'd love to be able to return it to her . That's why the songs so important to me .
@@andynixon2820 Paranoid Android.
@@andynixon2820 I was just saying back in the day OK Computer was the only album I listened to pacing the halls of broken dreams smashed on Sleepers - Valium and Neuro's. The only way to get through IMO. Maybe saved my life. Condolences on your loss but if she was listening to this at the time she probably passed both smiling and crying at the same time.
It tells about the dehumanizing of man, while at the same time telling us a story about unrequited love
Ben Victor it’s about blow up dolls and dildos
I always loved the colors in this music video. And man, the guys in the band were so young here!
Yay! India I'm so happy you did classic Radiohead! 😍
Radiohead is a phenomenal band. They were just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Check out the cd In Rainbows
Best band of all time. Radiohead is masterful at creating atmospheres.
Agreed! 👍
But gravity always wins..... what a line. This song just transports my back to 1998 when I met my first ever girlfriend. We used to lay on the bed, an earphone each and just listen to the Bends. She introduced me to Radiohead :). Thanks Kate x
This song destroys my soul and I adore it.
I love this phase of Radiohead.
'The Bends'
'OK Computer'
Are my two favorite Radiohead albums. Every track on those are SOOOO good!
and pablo honey
Chadwick McFaggins id say Pablo honey is their worst album
@@am_3508 its still a solid album
Chadwick McFaggins yeah it is
My 2 faves as well.
I was a teenager in the 90's, this song defines that time.
Wow. I just 'discovered' this band today. Listened to 'Creep' and now this. Amazing lyrics and message. Overwhelming angst. But there is a lot of that now, so this band touches a lot of nerves. Must hear more! (coming from an old white guy who still love Genesis) and now Radiohead.
I'm "old guy" too. Got into Radiohead about 4 years ago. Been exploring ever since...
I wrote a novel based on this song, and a memory of my youth as as a 16 year old who fell in love with a girl, but she turned me down... 😢😢😢😢
What's the name of the novel?
wow, I would really like to read that, sounds very interesting
To throw an alternative narrative. I once turned down someone I realised I loved because of the timing, shock of him saying it and being scared. Youth eh?
@@yvonnesanders2490 Oh boy... the mistakes we made in love when we were young...
You're spot on with the meaning of this beautiful Radiohead classic.
Like your take on it. For me it is multi-faceted. It is not only talking about accepting the falsehoods in another person but it is also about how we all tend to chase a certain image and have a desire to viewed in a certain way.
React Thom Yorke(vocalist of Radiohead) Bloom from electric Lady studios. Beautiful.
Tears. Every. Single. Time. Damnit.
Back in the day I had many arguments with a huge Radiohead fan with who's better - Radiohead or Oasis (my fav band). Now I wish music around now was fit to lace the boots of either band. Oasis are still 'my band' but Radiohead were phenomenal and continue to be so #90s
Try Sam Fender, this boy is in a similar mould.
Your friend was right.
But I can't help the feeling, I can burst trough the ceiling...Yeap, I know what he means 100000%..This song is timeless
React to Exit Music also by Radiohead
one of my favourite tracks of all time, loads of thanks for another great reaction video, India. UK here, sending hopes for a better future for the world. [el'sda2].
NASA needs to shoot this song out to the abyss, so it'll last until everything dims
Radiohead - Recknoner (Live in the Basement)
One of my favorite songs, by anyone, ever.
Daaaammmmnnn (I don't know how to write it correctly), but I love this channel! Likes alwayssssss...
🇧🇷✌️
Street spirit (fade out) is my favourite radiohead song. Great stuff apu.
More Radiohead, sis! I suggest the live version of Paranoid Android or There, There.
Personally my favorite song from one of the greatest bands of all time
You really nailed this India and respect for listening with your heart as I saw. Blesses.
Yo high and dry is dope!
Glad to see you reacting to some Radiohead... Thye're my favorite band.
You are a very smart and perceptive person and you grasped the concept of this song very well for hearing it only once! Radiohead songs are deep and really make you think. Their song Creep is that way as well.
God I love Radiohead.
God I love Radiohead
One of my favs
I bet you is a solid task solver and worker....talks fast n to the point....gets the job done
I love the way you don't pause it India, you are lovely
Also I love your break down of the song
We need a lot more Radiohead!
Watch this same song live at Glastonbury 2017, its sublime
Radiohead - The Numbers - live Thom and Jonny just doing their thing. I'm a huge Radiohead fan and this is so impressive for how simple and well-done it is. Not a classic, not a hit, not one regular fans would go for. But it's great to listen to, even without the reaction video.
Sit down, close ur eyes, picture his lyrics
Best band ever. Seriously.
Please React tod Radiohead-No Surprises
"He used to do surgery for girls in the '80s
but Gravity always wins" 🤣
Why the fuck you laughing?
@@biswasgrg425 Because it's a funny line. Class song
This song and the Bends album are one of the greatest rock masterpieces in history.
I am glad you reviewed this Radiohead song. While this song and some tracks like "High and Dry" are far from hidden tracks, real acclaim did not come to Radiohead until OK Computer and some of their later, less guitar oriented albums. I consider The Bends one of the most underrated albums of the 90s.
I got the sense that its a boy singing about his parents who dont really love each other but are putting a front on which wears them out. As such the boy wishes he could be who they wanted all the time as he feels he is too putting up a front which wears him out. Hence the child symbolism in the video of being pushed in a shopping cart and that shot at the end.
More relevant than ever. This should be the theme tune for Instagram.
I always felt this song was about how shallow people are. They always focus on the outward appearance of a person but never want to look at them for who they really are inside. So if you don't meet what is socially aesthetically pleasing your love is generally unrequited.
The constant striving for that fake plastic outward perfection wears them out, as they are fighting against the law of nature that everything degrades.
He's hurt because he met someone he thought was real, but she turned out to be fake. All outward appearance but nothing inside. Constantly trying to change him into something he wasn't and it wore him out.
Thanks for making these videos. Well done for creating a youtube channel and juggling the kids :) I'm hooked. You can listen to the lyrics and get them first time around, I've been listening for years but don't always understand the meaning.
You nailed the interpretation of this song well done, gal
The singer Thom Yorke admits the song is kind of melancholy for melancholy-sake, but still likes the song.
I knew a few people that been to 25 concerts plus......they said radiohead was the best ever
do no surprises if you haven’t already... beautiful song
Haha you got the Radiohead rock
This melody is epic..
Melancholic beauty
That song!!! Oh my, a great song!!! That song!!! Hey India, what if you and your child reacts for songs, children’s songs
Always appreciate Radiohead. Thank you.
lot of Radiohead reactions from the Black react tubers. This is great
The level someone would go to “to be
Who you wanted” enough to change who they are , very strong lyric.
Norman Reedus that most people know him as Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead show, he appears in Fake Plastic Trees video. He is the guy with the black jacket and light brown pants 3:28.
you're right on point with the meaning
Like how you listened to the whole song without interrupting in betwewn with comments ,which is probably unique among all the reaction videos out there. 👍
Voice of an angel
This song live at glastonbury 1997 👌😍
Would've liked to know if you liked it or not. As far as the song as a whole.
The song is about when you get to a certain age and life loses all its innocence and everything seems fake and superficial like a reaction page on RUclips when people pretend to be reacting to something but we can feel it’s not the first time they watch. After a while you realize all of life is like this and that’s why “gravity always wins”
React to "Street Spirit" on a tv show in Japan.
One of the best bands ever!
Great great song
I like how you look disturbed , which imho is the way to discribe thing song and many of the band .
Almost all Radiohead's songs are great. But I would be interested to see what you think about Thom Yorke's (the singer) song/performance of 'Analyze'. And that has to be the live version. That is something wonderful. :)
3:24 3:45 That is Norman Reebus (Daryl) from The Walking Dead
Commentary on the fake people you meet in this fake , plastic world. The Bends and Ok Computer are two of the better albums I own and I own several.
A band of many levels. Everyone can find something that touches if the spend the time digging.
I love Radiohead!! :D
Check out Radiohead In Rainbows live in the basement. Phenomenal
What I love about Radiohead is that they don't really do love songs.
Radiohead depresses me, but I still respect their music.
Also, if you like The Walking Dead, Norman Reedus' first real acting gig was in this music video. He plays Daryl Dixon.
the last great rock band
brilliant song by a truly brilliant band
This chick got caught out there early and clearly likes the whole song
Finally, you give a cogent analysis.
Good chill radiohead tune
what i would do to be able to listen to this song for the first time again
What a band!
“If I could be who you wanted all the time, I would.” So good. Edit * shockingly on point analysis! Well done.🙏
Nailed it!
The cracked polystyrene man is a plastic surgeon. But gravity always wins.
This is a great song... please react to Street Spirit (Fade Out), it's from the same album. So sad and so beautiful at the same time.
great reaction and analysis, i''d love to see you react to "My Girls" by Animal Collective
