I disagree about the manual over the DSG. I've had both and personally, DSG ALL THE WAY for me. DSG is like the best of both worlds IMO. Then again, I drive in a lot of traffic and I'm thoroughly tires of shifting. I like all of the reasons for the R over the GTI, but I still like the GTI better. It somehow seems more sporty than the plain-by-comparison Golf R... especially interior and design wise. All wheel drive GTI would be nice. Then again, I guess they save that for the more expensive R. You got the Autobahn model... that's awesome! ALL the BELLS 'n' WHISTLES! :-)
Thanks for your comment! Glad to know that you prefer the GTI over the R. I really love the car I have driven the new 7 speed dsg and it seems to have refined some of the things I mentioned in the video. If I were to get a newer one I would definitely get the dsg because the new 7 speed feels better than the 6 speed. I think you are right the gti is more fun. The golf r seems to be more of an Audi quattro then the original hot hatch.
Yeah absolutely depends who you are. I had the DSG and test drove a manual one for my girlfriend and I ended up buying that instead 😂 I needed something more engaging and I’m just stage one tuned but it’s enough to keep me happy. Love going through the gears and you get to feel the power surge each gear. My DSG didn’t get that
I have a 2016 GTI SE. I don’t burn through tires that’s for sure. I’ve been driving a manual transmission since 1990!! I love manual transmissions I love my MK4 R32!! But the DSG is sweet
The R is faster, but more than one reviewer has said that the GTI isI more fun to drive, mainly due to the greater responsiveness because it is significantly lighter. The DSG is like two transmissions designed to be very quick because the next gear is already selected behind the second clutch. It is fast sequentially. If you ask it to skip a gear it can't use the already selected gear and has to grab an unselected one in the half gear train you are already in. Slower, but not a fault. I find the normal mode with the sport setting on the shift lever pretty responsive for around town. Great car. Love mine.
Hi thanks for your comment. I have talked to a lot of guys that feel the same about the DSG. I guess you need to get use to it. I do really love the quickness of the transmission and how you have the option of driving it as an automatic or a manual. It is probably one of my favorite cars I have owned. I think next will be mk8 golf r. Glad you are enjoying your GTI !!!
I went to a VW drive day in 2012 where you get to go around a race-track in a MK.VI GTI and R. I enjoyed the GTI much more than the R. The GTI was definitely more fun to drive.
I thought all the Autobahn editions came with the red GTI badges? I have the 2016 Autobahn GTI it has the red badges because I thought the Autobahn comes with a performance pack
Yes I would recommend this car to anyone. You might get some speeding tickets lol but if you can control yourself it's a great car to own. You will love it.
Yes that's exactly why the tires run out because it's front wheel drive but any summer tire will wear out quick and all seasons don't produce enough traction and I definitely miss the two door
My stock tires lasted 18-20k miles in the front before I replaced them. Back ones are still original and I'm at 30k miles now(2015 2door dsg with APR Stage 1)
Hi thanks for your comment I am really enjoying the car and I think you will love it as well I did drive the A3 S line and I can tell you it definitely feels quicker and there is way more grip with the quattro. Its just a matter of what you prefer. Drive both and then you will know what the right decision for you is
damn bro i been driving mine the first 2 days in sport mode and im like wtf why this thing so fast lol. picked one up w only 25k miles in perfect shape like yours for $16,900 USD
Thats awesome congrats!!!! 👏 you will absolutely love it. Just make sure you keep up your maintenance and the car will be amazing. I still have mine and love it as much as when I bought it.
How much is it on a whole tank today? I’m in Canada too and I’m looking at one these used and contemplating picking one. Also does it only run on 91 and above or can it go on 87? I heard it was detuned to 210hp in NA because of 87 but not sure
Hi if you're contemplating on buying one of these I would definitely recommend it. They are a great daily driver that offers a lot of fun and excitement at the same time. I run mine on 91 it says you can use 87 but being a direct injection engine with a Turbo I would always run 91 personally.
I’m in America with shit gas prices right now, with this same car, cost me only 45$ US to fill up, and gets over 400 miles per tank. if I remember correctly
I had the Autobahn for like 3 weeks. Traded it in, it was so boring. No drama no nothing. I felt i was doing nothing. Great daily driver but just no fun.
I remove my previous statement. You were cool until I saw you got this car as an automatic. How dare you bro, stick shift all the way, especially in a GTI.
As you heard in my review I said I wish it was a manual but that being said Probably more then 70% of GTI'S on the road nowadays are with the dsg transmission. I guess that is what most people want these days. Cheers.

DSG+ paddle shifters =😍 I never drive it in the automatic mode. That way you can hold the RPMs any way you want it.

Thank You for the good review, I am buying one and I have been driving this particular GTI, so I know it by now.
You will absolutely love the car if I can give any recommendations if you are buying used try to spend a little more and find one with lower mileage.
@@baumgartenjordan do you still have it in 2023?
@@BLACKRACERONE Hi yes I still have it and love it just as much as the day I bought it.

Thanks for your comment. Yes you could get a 2016 autobahn but you need the performance pack for red badging. Mine is no performance pack.
@@baumgartenjordan Ah ok I see .
These things make more torque than some 7 seater family vehicles at only 1500 RPM. Not surprised these chew threw tires.
Would you recommend this car for beginner drivers? I'm thinking of buying one once I pass my test
Yes I would recommend this car to anyone. You might get some speeding tickets lol but if you can control yourself it's a great car to own. You will love it.
@@baumgartenjordan is there much difference between the 2016 and the 2017 model?
@Watches&Cars thanks man. I wasnt sure if i should get a 2016 or 2017 haha
@Watches&Cars both are same reliability wise?
@Watches&Cars sweet. Now its just trying to find one for a decent price with low km. There still selling for over $30,000 here in Sydney 🥲
Probably the wear is due to them being front wheel drive. I would look into another brand of tires. I wish they still make the two door hatch back.

Good :) may as well do a POV driving review
Gti for two wheel wrx for awd.
The LSD helps the gti regarding traction…
