You missed the best donair shop in the city. If green onions are quintessential, then donairs are essential. I’m going to have to try that donut shop and great list. I miss the Red Ox as well but Rge Rd offers some great seasonal dishes. I also like to go to Ernest’s at NAIT
I've been living in Edmonton for a long time, and I've been looking for a pizza place that makes authentic New York style pizza, and most of the joints around me fail to deliver solid pizza (Cosmic Pizza, Bingo Pizza, and all the chains). After watching this video, I gave Tony's a try and man it's really great! This place is exactly what I've been looking for! So thank you so much Strange North! I'm def gonna check out your other recommendations! Thanks again man!
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - cool to hear you tried Tony's and enjoyed it. these choices are my opinions, and there's a chance people won't always agree with them. But to me, Tony's is the best pizza in the city. I particularly love the palace special with no mushrooms, absolutely delicious. All the best to you, cheers mate!
Ragazzi near Bonnie Doon on Whyte is as good as Tony’s IMO (Sal’s Deluxe is my go to pie at Tony’s btw). I believe the original owners of Ragazzi and Tony’s (Mazzotta family) are related to each other and Queen’s NY expats. Sepp’s near the U of A (take out/delivery only) you can’t go wrong with either for NY style pizza. It might be as good or better than Tony’s and Ragazzi. Edit: I just went to Duggan’s Boundary for the first time a few weeks ago. Cool place with a real neighborhood vibe. Beer prices are what you’d expect for a Guinness. Around $9. A little pricey for a neighborhood pub. But what shocked me was the food we ordered. I ordered some dry ribs and an order of hot wings to split with my nephew. I think the ribs were around $17 and the wings were about $19. Bad enough, but that seems to be pretty consistent now everywhere. However…when the orders came out, they were about half the size of what you’d expect. There were about 5 or 6 small riblets and about 6-8 small wings. Nowhere near the standard order of a pound of wings. Initially I was worried we ordered too much food. Fortunately I ordered an entree as well otherwise I would’ve left hungry. As a result, I will not be back there in a hurry. Unfortunate, because otherwise that is my kind of place and I would’ve been somewhat of a “regular” there as it is not that far from where I live.
Pho King(capilano) and Pho Huan (millwoods) are my favorite places for satay beef. rich, dark, flavorful broth. a new place just opened recently on 50 st & 76 ave, Que Pho. i've only been there once but it's really good too
I don't drink coffee but Remedy is my favourite for tea. Their chai is the best I've had, and that includes many cities. Also fantastic that they have a good selection of food for those who can't tolerate gluten and/or dairy. Even their selection of non chai teas is amazing. Happy to see a local business not only thriving but expanding, and still maintaining quality.
I appreciate your input, thank you. Remedy is great, and I've been really impressed with their success expanding across Edmonton! I love 124 street location the best. Cheers!
Great video. Im gunna have to visit the Commodore, always noticed it on Jasper but never been! Same with the Moth actually too. You clearly know downtown places super well, these are 3 Strathcona area places I love! Tacos on Whyte, super fresh ingredients, tiny lil place just south of Whyte ave on Calgary trail, good value too. La Bosco Cafe and Bakery, 79th ave and Calgary trail, really great trendy type cafe in an industrial type building with a huge raised concrete garden bed filled with lil trees and bushes, really cool. I always get the bulgagi poutine and a caramel frap when I go. Friends & Neighbours and Pho Delight is 2 places in one, but you can get either menu on both sides, they share the same kitchen and staff. Friends and Neighbours is a classic diner, Pho Delight is Vietnamese with a huge selection of vegetarian and vegan options. Once again the ingredients are always fresh and the service is very friendly, 108 street and Whyte ave, its a stable of the area, been around since the 80s I think
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate the detailed feedback and recommendations - you know what I have been to Tacos on Whyte once and it was really good! Thanks again for the recommendations, I'm sure over time that will help people out as they read it. Cheers!
I use to go to the Commodor way back in the late 60s early 70s. I use to love that place, my family liked The Silk hat 7 seas and The tiki tiki. Yeah Im old
No disrespect to Moth at ALL, but Padmanadi is ALWAYS going to be my #1 choice for best vegan in YEG. It’s an absolute staple for this city and it defies the borders of “vegan vs meat eater” because I’ve never met a person of any diet who didn’t love their food. Plus they’re just extremely community minded, kind people!
118 Avenue is home of some of the best ethnic restaurants in Edmonton - West African, East African, South American, Indian, South East Asian, European, you name it. Step into any of these joints and you'll get a belly full of delicious food for less than 30 bucks. Parking is not an issue compared to downtown or Whyte ave. either. Good call on Take 5 too. It's a rare old school indy donut shop the likes of which we haven't seen in decades because of the Tim Horton monopoly. 118 Ave is a wonderful part of town that is often overlooked but is well worth discovering.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback, I agree about 118 Ave and it is still way overrated as a food destination within the city. I was actually thinking about doing a video down the road on restaurants along 118. Cheers mate!
One more diner to add to the list. Red Goose diner near Millcreek ravine is definitely one that can't be missed. The spicy beef bulgogi is killer! Happy day!
1. Long live NorthSide!! 2. Excellent Troll sifter ending :) 3. Thanks for your work here shouting out to some of Edmonton's underrated spots but especially the efforts you put into the comments section: Kudos! Not all content creators care. 4. Plant-based meals, days, periods definitely have their place- Can I ask why you slowed down? 5. E-town doesn't have a scene like Van, TO, or especially Montreal but we do have an abundance. Going within or even beyond your list, what would you consider your Edmonton High and Low culinary experiences?? 6. My favourite Edmonton restaurant? Thanks for asking: It has to be *Brad Lazarenko's @CulinaFamily*. Why? They tick every box you can imagine and more. Supports/cooks with local veggies from local farms? - Check. Supports/cooks with local meat producers? - Check. Supports local vendors of CHOCOLATE, coffee, jams, spreads, CHORIZO sausages, GELATOS, sauces and on and on! Check. Supports his staff? Check. Supports Indigenous? Check (Brad is Meti). Supports Dietary Challenges? Check. (I counted 15 GF and 4 Vegan options in the to-go freezer and he's always got meals AND desserts for them too in the to-go fridges). Supports healthy options? Check. He supports the Italian center? Check out his new spot at Culina McCauley almost kitty corner to the 95th Street Spinellli Crown Jewel... But best of all, and what we value most in our Favourite restaurant - every time we go to Culina, Brad and/or his staff greet me and my wifey by name, they're happy to chat and share, they've probably taken a risk on their menu so that they can learn something and we can try something different, and they just make you feel like part of the Culina family. It's not just about the food, it's about the genuine care and connection they offer, creating an enriching experience that goes beyond the plate and contributes to the warmth and prosperity of Edmonton's really unique and interesting culinary landscape - all in one place.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to leave detailed comments and engage with my video! I appreciate you noticing the effort I put into (most) replies to comments, that's something I'm trying to emphasize on my channel. Annoys me when content creators are dismissive of people who actually take the time to watch and engage with their videos. I'm glad you got a kick out of the McDonald's addition at the end, I was shocked at how upset some people got over that LOL. I'm very biased to the north side of Edmonton, it does has more gritty areas (which isn't always a bad thing) but it was way more services, attractions, amenities and restaurants as well. I went back to being an omnivore because I was just constantly craving meat honestly - but I definitely think I wasn't getting enough complete protein, but I've been learning more about BCAAs and how they can be an effective protein supplement to a plant based diet. I actually have many complex thoughts on this issue and I could talk for hours about it. I think Culina is a great organization as well, years ago I delivered food for Italian Centre and I often dropped off at their locations. I actually had no idea Culina had a new spot in little Italy, that area is one of my favorite in the city. Been meaning to pop into Zocalo to see how they recovered from that fire. Cheers mate!
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - I talk about some First Nations gangs in my gangs of Edmonton video and I'm also posting a video on gangs in Saskatchewan tomorrow morning. Cheers!
Tonys is amazing! Great call. I would recommend trying Bravo pizza on the northwest corner of St. Albert trail and 118 Ave. The owner was a chef in Italy for 15 years and he and his wife are beautiful people! In my opinion, their crust rivals, if not beats, tonys. Loved your video, thanks.
I live on 124st and haven’t been to Woodshed yet! I will be going now after watching this. Great restaurants picks btw. You def know your awesome Edm eats!
Thanks for watching - definitely just my personal picks and many will disagree. But honestly, the burger that I had at Woodshed was one of the best I'd ever had! Cheers mate, glad you got some value out of the video!
Great video, I'm visiting Edmonton in the spring to try out for a job and this is useful info (as are your others about the city). I'm with you on McD's as well. The key to their success is consistency.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - glad you enjoyed it, I love the donuts and old school vibe. Haven't been there myself in awhile actually, I gotta head over soon. Cheers mate!
I've been binge watching your videos, and you sir are my new favorite youtuber! I've eaten at Tony's hundreds of times from 2011 to 2017 with my ex girlfriend. Best pizza ever! We would always order two house salads and share a palace special pizza (without mushrooms). The delicious thin crust pizza with a sip of red house wine is to die for :)
Hey thanks man, appreciate it and I'm glad you're getting some value out of the videos. I'm new to video production and it's cool to hear people are enjoying the content - I have a lot of upcoming videos planned that I'm looking forward to as well. Yeah to me that place has the best pizza in the city, great food and overall vibe. I like their steak and pasta too. Edmonton has a surprisingly excellent Italian/pizza scene and I think that's largely due to the Italian Centre Shop. Cheers!
Commodore is my favourite place for breakfast, just a good solid diner style bacon and eggs at a good price. Love the history of the place too. For a good breakfast and good value in the north east check out The Whistling Kettle on 50th St. Take 5 is also top notch I live in the area and it’s not as bad as the hype. It’s sad that Route 99 isn’t open 24 hours anymore. Tony’s Pizza Palace is legit NY style the original owner is from NYC. The NY style pepperoni pizza is 👌better than most in NYC
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback, I'll have to check out Whistling Kettle. Yeah it was great when Route 99 was open all night, I honestly think Edmonton needs some cool 24 hour diners that aren't Denny's
My girlfriend and I just moved here from Ottawa and we love your videos. Thanks for recommending all these spots, really helps us get to know our new city!
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - and it's great to hear you guys are getting some value out of my videos! Still pretty new to RUclips/video production and I can't believe anyone is watching. Cheers mate
I just finished watching a video that I could describe only as the Wikipedia of gangs of Edmonton, did not think this would be a previously covered topic but I'm happily surprised. The variety is unmatched lol
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - been meaning to hit up a buffet one of these days, thanks for the recommendations! Cheers mate
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the recommendation! These were just my personal picks but I definitely don't know every good spot in the city. Saskatoon has so many great options! Cheers
Thanks for the feedback! I'll have to check out Hathaway's never heard of it, never been to Pazzo Pazzo to eat either but I delivered food there twice a week when I worked for Italian Centre Shop years ago. Cheers!
Hathaway's is a little "Mom & Pop" joint in a strip mall just west of 127 St. Well, actually, a "Mom & Daughter" joint, if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, it's small and very unpretentious but it's got about the best breakfast around; or at least it did. Like I say, it's been some time since I was there. May have changed since. The crowds are always a good indication, though. Don't even bother trying to go there on Saturday morning or you'll be eating off your knee on the front stoop.@@strangenorth
Tony's Pizza Palace is God Tier. I would say that Spinelli's Bar in the Italian Center Shop is just as good. The Massamo Pizza there is the best meat pizza in existence.
I love Tony's, thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback! Wow, didn't know that about the pizza at Spinelli's. Worked at ICS for years and love the cafe just never tried the pizza. Cheers mate!
I would like to see you do an episode on the best shops in Edmonton. Food (restaurants/bakeries/ice cream/etc) get all the attention while cool stores are often ignored. I must admit this is self-serving as I own The Prints and the Paper on 124th Street but I started my business 8 years ago because I have always been fond of finding and exploring unique and fun shops. In my previous life (before I was chained at the ankle to my business), I visited New York and European cities several times and would always search out the creative and unique businesses that cosmopolitan cities can support. We may not be London or Berlin but there are many hidden gems in Edmonton and I think they deserve a lot more attention and credit for elevating Edmonton's cultural experience. I would suggest you do categories like best antique stores (Rocky Mountain, Antique Mall), best music shops (Blackbyrd Myoozik, Listen), best import shops (Kifune Japanese, Dutch Delicious, K&K Foodliner), and, of course, best gift shops (Artworks, Vivid Print, and, perhaps, my store?). These suggestions are just off the top of my head but I am sure you can think of some good ones too. Everyone does food and restaurant lists. It's high time the shopping experience was given some love. Sandy M
Hey Sandy, thanks for watching and I appreciate your feedback. I love your shop! I've bought a couple things at The Prints and the Paper over the years and my family loves your store. 124 street in general is great, one of my favorite streets in the city. That's actually a great idea, I want to do more videos featuring cool stuff in Edmonton and it would be neat featuring some unique shops in the city. Cheers mate
@@strangenorth Thanks. I'm happy to hear you agree with me. I look forward to your post (even if my store isn't included...but it should be!) (Stylus, Delta Art Supply, and The Paint Spot are some other cool shops to feature)
Edmonton used to have great dim sum restaurants in the 90's and early 2000's. Rumor had it that there were a group of Hong Kong trained dim sum chefs who would prepare the meals and rotate between 4 restaurants. If I were to guess, three of them were Noodle Noodle, Marco Polo, and Jumbo Seafood. They all tasted the same: excellent. Those days are gone, but the one standout left is a place called Wok House in St. Albert next to the funeral home. No one really knows about them because they mostly do take out, but their dim sum is as fantastic as the good old days.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - means a lot when people take the time to comment. Thanks for the recommendations as well, Saint Albert has an impressive food scene overall. Cheers mate!
So bummed that Noodle Noodle closed, I loved it. When was that? I moved away over a decade ago and recently moved back. Thanks for the tip about Wok House, will give it a try!
I have lived in Edmonton all my life and the only restaurant (other than McDonald's) that I knew of was Comadore on Jasper Ave ... I have a list of new places to try so THANKS!!!
@@strangenorth Stop! Do not pass go, Do not collect 200$: GO DIRECTLY TO JACK's (there's one on Jasper Ave a couple doors down from the Wee Book Inn) Every burger in Edmonton has to be compared on a scale to theirs PLUS their fries harken back to the 80's before canola oil ruined everything. Grumble grumble BRING BACK TALLOW!!
High Level Diner (Chicken Cheddar Sandwich and their cinnamon buns are to die for), Saphay House (Thai), Padmanadi (Vegetarian/Vegan), Café Amore (Italian, shout out to Rahul, the best waiter in the city)
I think we have a pretty good food scene! I just love even the smell of the Green Onion Cake Man as you're walking up to the shop on 118 Ave. Cheers mate!
Thanks for the recommendation - never been but delivered there a lot when I worked for Italian Centre Shop years ago - seems like they know what they're doing and they have a great reputation!
My picks for my favorite Edmonton restaurants: 1. The Three Amigos on 106st, southside. Great Mexican food, good atmosphere, and decent parking. 2. The Captain's Boil. Specifically, the northside location, on 137th ave. Great seafood, but is on the pricey side. Abundant parking and easy to drive to. The southside location is just as good, as far as food goes, but is busier, and is in one of those annoying new style commercial parks with strange, unaligned streets that are really hard to get out of. 3. IHOP. Specifically, the original southside location, between Calgary Trail and Gateway, south of Whitemud Drive. Consistently good food and service. Abundant parking and easy to get, except during rush hour. The main reason, the southside location gets my pick is their hours during the pandemic madness. All the other restaurants in Edmonton would close at 8, except drive through places. IHOP southside stayed open until 1 am. 4. The Kitchen at the River Cree Resort and Casino. Specifically on Friday-Sunday evenings, for the buffet. Easily the best buffet in Edmonton. Lots of parking, but the casino is popular, so you might be a ways out in the parking lot. As an added bonus, for those of us who smoke, you can go to the Onyx bar afterward for a cigarette and cocktail, without standing in the cold. 5. Saratoga Restaurant on the southside, near Hwy 2 and 23 ave. Great traditional Canadian diner/family restaurant for breakfast or lunch. Easy to get to and adequate parking, but they are always busy. From distant memory of my childhood, I think they were open later, in the 80s and 90s. Previously, I would have highly recommended Soda Jerks, on the west side, but they seem to have went out of business, in two different locations. I have yet to find a good, burger place in Edmonton to replace it, that is easy to drive to, and has abundant parking. Now, if you wanted a list for Grande Prairie, I could include a lot more, and almost every place there as good parking.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it - and I'm going to check out some of those places I've never been to. Also I wouldn't mind Grande Prairie recommendations, that's a really decent town and I've been there many times. Cheers mate!
@@strangenorth Sure. Grande Prairie recommendations: Best burgers: Either Major's Family Restaurant on 100th street, north side, or Major's Homestyle in the Paradise Inn on 100th ave, west side. Long time GP residents will probably have fond memories of the original Majors, at the Prairie Haven Inn, across from the Prairie Mall. It was a staple of GP for decades. It was most known for homemade burgers on homemade buns, with homemade fries, as well as several Ukrainian dishes. After the original owners retired and sold the restaurant to Asians, someone connected to the original restaurant opened Major's Homestyle, commonly known as Major's 2. The Asian run restaurant continued in the original location, for years, but has since moved to the old Pizza Hut building. Both still feature the original burgers, as well as many other menu items from the original establishment, but also have unique menu items. Both are great, but I would give Major's Homestyle a slight edge. Both have plenty of parking. Best fancy coffee. Old smokes on 100th ave, east side. Features a full line of fancy coffees, except cappuccino, for some reason. Also several varieties of regular coffee available in a normal roast or smoked. For food, they have sandwiches and deserts. I like the elk panini. Parking can be a bit tricky in peak hours, but you can, almost, always find a spot. Best Mexican: El Norteno at the Grande Prairie Farmer's Market, downtown. Not a full restaurant, but, rather, a permanent booth in the GP Farmer's Market. Open 7 days a week, even when the farmer's market is not running. Very good, if limited menu of Mexican dishes. Ample parking when farmer's market is not in session, but can be a pain, when it is. Best buffet: Soleilki, west side. Mostly Asian food, buffet. Standard Chinese food options, plus sushi and a few western options. I noticed that it doesn't have very good reviews on Yelp, but I have always had a great experience. Far superior to the other Asian buffet in town. The brunch buffet at Major's Homestyle is also great, but is only available on weekends. Best bar/pub: Shark Club, 99th ave, downtown. Good pub food, plus other menu items. Great service. Adequate parking. My go to dish is the jambalaya, but I am a sucker for Cajun dishes. Close runners up would be Original Joe's on the southside, or Brown's Social House on the west side. Best Asian food. Tentatively, Wally's Kitchen, on 100th st, a few block south of downtown. A GP staple for decades. Great, old fashioned, Canadian Chinese food. The only reason I am saying tentatively is because I haven't been there in over 10 years. When I want Asian food, I always seem to end up at the buffet. Now that I have thought about it, I will have to go there, again, and see if it lives up to memory. Best steakhouse: Frontier Eatery and Seafood, 100th Ave, west side. Great steak, but I have yet to try the seafood. Ample parking, but access, from the main streets is a bit of a pain, if you don't know the area. Honorable mention: The lounge at The Great Northern Casino. I wasn't sure what category to list this under. Great steak. great entree's and great service. Lots of parking, but the casino is always busy, so plan to be a ways from the door. Best breakfast: Humpty's. I assume most Canadians know Humpty's It is consistent and has great food, especially breakfast options. Two locations in GP. One on the west side, near Canadian Tire, and one 100th st, northside, at the Petro Canada. The northside location is better for service and parking.
@@strangenorth One place i forgot to mention in my Grande Prairie list. Best Desert: Crooked Creek Donuts at Crooked Creek General store. While not in GP, still worth a visit. Crooked Creek General Store is about 60 km east of GP or 40 Km west of Valleyview. The donuts are so popular, they often have a hard time keeping up with demand. Thus, it is not uncommon, for them to fill your order with still warm donuts from the back. Probably the least healthy thing you will eat all week, the regular glazed donuts, if cooled, taste utterly amazing. If you get them while still warm, they taste like angel orgasms.
How about a video on the best festivals in Edmonton? I rarely travel in the summer because there is something cool going on almost every weekend. The Folk Festival, the Fringe, the Edmonton comic expo, Taste of Edmonton, and the Heritage Festival (the best foodie and shopping festival in the city, IMHO) are the biggies, but there are countless smaller events too, even into the fall and winter. Best farmers markets would be cool too! (The absolutely massive market in St Albert gets my vote for best market in the Edmonton region but the year round Old Strathcona and Bountiful markets are great too.)
Have got to shout out Thanh-Thanh oriental noodle house downtown. My family doesn’t go out to eat often but has consistently gone back there for 30+ years. Great people and good food
Hey that's a great recommendation - when I worked for Italian Centre Shop years ago I would deliver food there every week and I was always intrigued. Still haven't eaten there, I forgot about that place and I'm definitely going to check it out one of these days. Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed the video, that McDonald's bit at the end threw a few people lol. Metterra is a great spot, and that reminds me - my list is very north side heavy and I may do another one down the road that features more from Whyte/south side. Cheers!
Pazzo Pazzo Italian Cuisine on 103rd - the location is a drag especially if you want to go on a weekend and the interior is only okay (not bad but nothing special) but holy hot damn is the food good. Best bruschetta in town and they do an excellent job of any other Italian dish you would think of. Strong recommend Interesting video by the way, definitely gonna be checking out some of these I've never heard of before especially Commodore.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - I've heard good things about that place. Years ago I delivered food for Italian Centre shop and I would bring them food twice a week and it always smelled great in there. Commodore is a great little diner. Cheers!
Oh man I miss Sloppy Hogs, it was the best BBQ in the city and the only place I ever tried kangaroo lol. Commodore is great, surprising how many people haven't heard of it. Thanks for watching, cheers mate!
So, 4 months after watching your show, we attended the Bul Go Gi House for dinner - and ordered what you order - and it was Sooo Gooood!!!! The restaurant had an air of a 90’s Chinese Restaurant. We had a great conversation with the older couple at the table over, who had been going there since ‘78, and told us how the restaurant used to be configured where you had a personal oven of sorts to bbq, and you didn’t wear your good clothes because you would smell like bbq when done. We got word Trump had been shot while eating! (Not commenting politically, just relating the situation). Thank you for sending us on this adventure.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - it's one of my favorite places to eat in Edmonton and it's great to hear you guys enjoyed your time there! Edmonton definitely has decent options out there. Cheers mate!
@strangenorth I've been going for 25 years, and my dad has been going before I was born it is definitely a hole in the wall. You can not afford to miss food, always hits, and kindest people love wayne and his parents they watched me grow up, and you definitely gotta go again soon man
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to leave feedback - I don't exactly know if I have had shawarma in Edmonton before but I will keep your recommendation in mind! Cheers mate
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - best diner in the city in my opinion, and I'm surprised at how it's still relatively unknown. Cheers mate, have a great weekend!
My go-to lunch spot is Smoke & Spuds in Acheson. It's close to work and I can get a succulent smoked brisket meal for $16 that leaves me not even wanting supper.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - I've heard great things about that place, especially their brunch. Still haven't eaten there. Cheers mate, have a great week!
I was just in yeg for 4 days and learned about Naked Cyber cafe. The owner is so cool and we were there on a Thursday eve when they have open mic live music. Love that place
Thanks for watching - that place is awesome, and the owner truly is a great guy! He used to be located on Jasper ave and it was a solid internet cafe at a time when they were more popular. Cheers mate!
I tried Flat Boy burgers….awesome smashburgers. Get the double, they are very thin. 2 patties, grilled till crispy on the ends, and authentic home cut thick french fries, and reasonably priced. They are inside the Granite Curling Club in Old Strathcona. I am telling you, best burger in the city right now. They are not open until noon. They have some seating indoors, but no waiters, order, then seat yourself, then pick up your food. More of a quick bite or take out place. Highest rated reviews in the city.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - thanks for that recommendation, honestly I've never heard of that burger place! I actually think I'm going to try that out within the next couple weeks, I appreciate a good burger and my list was definitely northside-heavy. Cheers mate, have a great week!
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - you're right, I love that place and I'm impressed with their success as an expanding chain in Edmonton. Cheers!
Donair Stop on 50th street it has great donairs, subs and burgers, Brit's Fish and Chips 77st has great fish and chips. Catch of the Week on 106th Ave also has great fish and chips
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - thanks for your recommendations, I've heard good things about those places. Cheers mate!
I'm not vegan either but for that type of food I like Padmanadi. My daughter, who has a lot of food allergies, likes the Moth Cafe because they have many dishes she can safely eat.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - Padmanandi is great, they've got a great reputation too. Moth a great addition the vegan/vegetarian options!
Yeah that's a fair point, I'm definitely biased towards the central core in a lot of ways. These are just my current favorite picks but you're right, lots of options outside of the core. I was thinking of doing a part 2 video down the road. Thanks for watching!
My hometown, and I will be the first to slag am so glad to see someone wave the flag. Will of course be the country capital if we separate. Need proof? Who can remember: Rosebowl pizza, sidetrack, club limelight, greenhouse, twin drive in, gas pump, boiler, purple onion etc.
I used to party at the Greenhouse regularly in the ‘80s, I lived within walking distance. You forgot the Viper Room, MJ’s Roadhouse, Rebar and Blues On Whyte. 😊
Thanks for watching - Sepp's is also fantastic, I've had it a couple times and really enjoyed it. I'm actually not a big donair guy, not opposed to them just never really got into it. What do you think is the best donair spot in Edmonton? Cheers
Who would eat a fungus? That part was funny! I couldn't agree more. My go-to place in Edmonton is Amean donair. If you know a better donair spot, please let me know.
Lol fungus is disgusting, did you know it's closer to an animal than a plant?? You know what honestly I don't have much experience with donairs so I appreciate your recommendation! Cheers mate
You know what I've never been too into donairs, had one when I was younger and didn't like the sauce - but the meat is great and I'd actually love to try one with just meat and vegetables, maybe hummus too? A few people have left donair recommendations, are there any spots you prefer? Thanks for watching!
@@strangenorth You'll find that you'll be offered one of three sauces on a donair - a sweet sauce made out of condensed milk, garlic powder and vinegar, a tzatziki sauce or (rarely) tajin sauce. In my opinion, Simon King Donairs were the best at one time. Apparently, they sold to a new owner and things have changed though. For burgers, if you get a chance try Flatboy Burgers. Probably the best burger I've had in the world.
For pizza my all time favourite is Capital Pizza & Steakhouse on 144th Ava & about 77th street. Been eating there since 87’. Where’s Tony’s? I didn’t catch it. 🎉
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to leave feedback - good to know about Capital, haven't been there but interested in checking out new pizza places down the road. Tony's is on 111 ave and about 96 street, just north of Little Italy. Cheers mate, have a great week!
First off I've lived in every major city in Canada and I have the following to say about Edmonton in particular; - If you reside in Edmonton, don't expect to actually "live" by any reasonable standard. People come here to work and later move somewhere else to actually live. - If you ever spend money outside of your residence within Edmonton (or most of Alberta as well) for any product / service, expect to do the exact same thing at least two more times for it to be satisfactory unless you are purchasing from a merchant who is from Eastern Canada or some other place civilised, and understands the actual value of a customers time and money. - NEVER ever go to any fine restaurant in Edmonton unless you are OK with throwing the same amount of money out your car window while driving. I have on occasion looked up the best restaurants in Edmonton and tested them from time to time over the last 20 years. Service people in Edmonton restaurants are horrible at their jobs. They should be invisible of course like in any civilised location, but in Edmonton they are incompetent, noisy, rude, and often have a 'mandatory' tip fee for what they refer to as service.
Bro, pls do a video on best takeout. So far I find Eddy food so bad I stopped eating out or getting takeout years ago. Been here 15 years. Halifax was so much better. Real Chinese and Donair.
Hey man thanks for the question - seems like people have been saying Swiss Donair is one of the best in the city. Appreciate you watching, cheers mate!
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback! Good choices, and that actually reminds me to check out Battistas because I've been meaning to. Cheers mate!
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - I've heard great things about that p[lace but I haven't been yet! Cheers
People has different taste but I always like suggestions. There are some of the places you mention I never been or heard about but I will like to try .
Thanks for watching - these are definitely my personal picks, and others will disagree with me. But I definitely enjoy the places I listed, Edmonton has a decent amount of options! Cheers mate
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - yeah you bet, that place is still around and it has a good reputation! Cheers mate
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - I still can't believe anyone is watching my little videos honestly. I do like Route 99, and for my next road trip to the USA I want to have breakfast there to begin my journey. But I prefer Commodore overall. Cheers!
For the best pizza, you got to try Capital pizza on 76th street & 144 avenue. You won't regret it! For the best steaks, NO restaurant can beat the Coliseum steak & pizza, located on 118 avenue & 80th street.
What are some of your favorite restaurants in Edmonton?
vons steak house, preferred whyte ave area location though
you know what I've never been there but I've heard good things!@@gamblinramblinab
You missed the best donair shop in the city. If green onions are quintessential, then donairs are essential. I’m going to have to try that donut shop and great list. I miss the Red Ox as well but Rge Rd offers some great seasonal dishes. I also like to go to Ernest’s at NAIT
Pacific Buffet was the very best buffet until they closed 10 years ago or so.
Viphalay Thai And Laos food. Super authentic and very tasty. My fave spot in the city.
Not sure how much it’s like a NY slice but HighDough on Calgary trail is great. Give em a shot.
Came for the gangs, stayed for the food.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - LOL yeah I guess this channel can be a bit of a rollercoaster
What gangs ? 😂😂😂
Cool video.... take 5 is a personal favorite I've been going there for years
Thanks for watching, I love that place - best coffee shop/donuts in the city!
Unfortunately Take 5 owners have retired and permanently closed the shop.😢😢😢😢@@strangenorth
Pho Hoan Pasteur is my favorite restaurant. Best pho restaurant should definitely be on the list!
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the recommendation!
depends which location. my favourite Pho is in the old army base Griesbach, called Pho Ever. Really authentic food.
Pho King(capilano) and Pho Huan (millwoods) are my favorite places for satay beef. rich, dark, flavorful broth. a new place just opened recently on 50 st & 76 ave, Que Pho. i've only been there once but it's really good too
Thien An in capilano, 101 ave 73 st, puts coconut milk in their broth. it's also delicious
Cheers!
Crum is the best chai in my opinion, KB & Co's is also good!
I haven’t even heard of some of these! Thank you for sharing, this is fantastic.
Thanks for watching, glad it gave you some ideas!
When I lived in Edmonton, Heritage Days was my favorite time of the year just for all the FOOD! Terrific guide!
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - I haven't been to that for years but I have great memories. Cheers!
Your last pick was hilariously honest. Love it.
That part actually made so many people mad lol
Yeah Im old
All the cool places to eat and you drop the old McDonald’s bomb at the end. I am not sure if you had plans on that being funny but it killed me lol
lol thanks for sharing that you enjoyed that part, I actually had a couple people that absolutely hated it lmao. Took a risk
Mcdonalds . OMG. I am about to UNSUBSCRIBE
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - you know what, Padmanadi is great too I just have a soft spot for Moth. Cheers!
Awesome videos, just found your channel and watched almost all your vids. Keep em coming!!
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback! Cheers
Great channel 😊keep em' comin!
Thanks for watching!
One more diner to add to the list. Red Goose diner near Millcreek ravine is definitely one that can't be missed.
The spicy beef bulgogi is killer!
Happy day!
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the recommendation!
1. Long live NorthSide!!
2. Excellent Troll sifter ending :)
Hey Mr strange North I’m a fellow Edmontonian and I enjoy ur videos. I’d love some more deep dives on native gangs and native reserve gangs
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - I'll have to check that place out!
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback! I'm glad the video provided some useful info, all the best with your move to Edmonton!
On your recommendation, I went to Take 5 last night. Excellent. Thanks!
Sabor, The Black Pearl Seafood Bar, Rge Rd, DOSC, Cafe Amore.
Those are great places! Went to DOSC for the first time last weekend, cool place and I love that old building
Thanks for watching!
Pizza - Versato's , best buffet ,Golden Rice bowl.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - been meaning to hit up a buffet one of these days, thanks for the recommendations! Cheers mate
Great Video! Try XO Bistro downtown near City Centre Mall both of their service and food are amazing. I love their bun bo huh!
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the recommendation! These were just my personal picks but I definitely don't know every good spot in the city. Saskatoon has so many great options! Cheers
Been a while since I've been to either but I really enjoyed Hathaway's Diner in Athlone and Pazzo Pazzo downtown.
You should definitely check out hathaway's diner. It's ranked #2 on trip advisor in all of Edmonton.@@strangenorth
great vids man. really enjoying them.
I appreciate it, thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching, these are my opinions and some people will disagree but I hope it gave you some ideas. Cheers mate!
Overall a pretty good list. One small change, woodshed burgers is great but I think Jack's burger shack (technically in St. Albert) is the best around
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback! You know what never been, but I've heard good things, cheers
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - those are great recommendations!
Bulgogi House FTW :). And Green Onion Cake Man! RIP Happy Garden restaurant
I think we have a pretty good food scene! I just love even the smell of the Green Onion Cake Man as you're walking up to the shop on 118 Ave. Cheers mate!
Barb and Ernie’s Old Country Inn is hands down, the best breakfast restaurant in Edmonton.
Actually great call, love that place and haven't been there in ages. Cheers!
My favourite fine dining in Edmonton is Normands, for the wild game menu.
Thanks for the recommendation - never been but delivered there a lot when I worked for Italian Centre Shop years ago - seems like they know what they're doing and they have a great reputation!
My picks for my favorite Edmonton restaurants:
Grande Prairie recommendations:
Best burgers: Either Major's Family Restaurant on 100th street, north side, or Major's Homestyle in the Paradise Inn on 100th ave, west side.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - that's a great idea for a future video, cheers!
Trash. Don't let the commercials fool you😅
The Sugar Bowl for breakfast and Happy and Olive for sharable dishes!
Sugar Bowl is great but I haven't been to the other place - thanks for the recommendation! Cheers mate
Have got to shout out Thanh-Thanh oriental noodle house downtown. My family doesn’t go out to eat often but has consistently gone back there for 30+ years. Great people and good food
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - you know what I don't think I've been there yet, thanks for the recommendation!
Barb and Ernie's is the best breakfast restaurant!
Love Barb and Ernie’s
Great place actually, haven't been there since 2016 I think! Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback
Take 5 has the best donuts, made fresh throughout the day and the eclairs, oh my absolutely delicious
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - I love that place! Cheers mate
High Level Diner?
Fantastic place!
Hathaways is an amazing breakfast and lunch restaurant.
Thanks for the recommendation!
As a life long Edmontonian, I'd love for you to try Pazzo Pazzo for best pizza. Book a table with a few friends!
Hey that's a great recommendation - when I worked for Italian Centre Shop years ago I would deliver food there every week and I was always intrigued. Still haven't eaten there, I forgot about that place and I'm definitely going to check it out one of these days. Cheers!
Linghan
Thanks for the recommendation!
Sitting at the Metterra on Whyte watching this. Cool video. I life Edmonton
Strong recommend
Interesting video by the way, definitely gonna be checking out some of these I've never heard of before especially Commodore.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - I've heard good things about that place. Years ago I delivered food for Italian Centre shop and I would bring them food twice a week and it always smelled great in there. Commodore is a great little diner. Cheers!
118 ave has quite a few great restaurants. I really miss Sloppy Hogs. Also the Commodore is amazing!! I love that little hole in the wall.
Golden bird was always my go-to 🔥🔥🔥
Wow forgot about that place, went there a couple times years (maybe decades) ago and it was great!
@strangenorth I've been going for 25 years, and my dad has been going before I was born it is definitely a hole in the wall. You can not afford to miss food, always hits, and kindest people love wayne and his parents they watched me grow up, and you definitely gotta go again soon man
Golden Bird gets ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐from me! Love, love their food.
Nice video. Give me a platter from Jerusalem Shawarma, a slice of Versatto's pizza and a coffee from Parama Cafe.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to leave feedback - I don't exactly know if I have had shawarma in Edmonton before but I will keep your recommendation in mind! Cheers mate
I’ll see you at Duggar’s, friend! I live a couple blocks away lol
Great pub, was actually raised in that neighborhood and I remember when it used to be called The Frog and Nightgown! Cheers mate
Been eating at Commodore for years now. Feels like home.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your recommendation - I haven't heard of that place! Cheers mate
I enjoyed your video!
I appreciate, it, glad it provided some value and thanks for watching! Cheers mate
I got addicted to the donairs in this city this year. So many options when it comes to that meaty greasy good stuff .
I miss the red ox myself best spot ever
It was my favorite place, food and service were always perfect, class act
My wife loved the red ox inn as well shame it’s no more
Super recommend Under The High Wheel. Place is unbelievable.
2 patties, grilled till crispy on the ends, and authentic
home cut thick french fries, and reasonably priced.
Remedy cafe is also really good
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - you're right, I love that place and I'm impressed with their success as an expanding chain in Edmonton. Cheers!
From vegan to McDonald’s is quite interesting. “Why would anyone eat a fungus?” Might feel insulting to some. Just my opinion. Keep going man.
Fair enough, but fungus is disgusting tho
@@strangenorthI’m with you! Mushrooms a🤮🤮🤢
Donair Stop on 50th street it has great donairs, subs and burgers, Brit's Fish and Chips 77st has great fish and chips.
Do you leave the downtown/central to eat? These might be great for that area...but sooo many more outside that boundary.
Oh man, I loved the sidetrack cafe - great memories!
Great picks, but Sepp’s is the best pizza in Edmonton IMO. Also, would love to hear your pick for top donair shop.
Thanks for watching - Sepp's is also fantastic, I've had it a couple times and really enjoyed it. I'm actually not a big donair guy, not opposed to them just never really got into it. What do you think is the best donair spot in Edmonton? Cheers
Good list. For burgers, try Flatboy Burgers once they open up their new location.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the recommendation, haven't been there! Cheers mate
Cheers mate
Love McDonald's
me too, and about 10 people got legitimately upset that I included it lmao
Bar Bricco 🙌
Fantastic place, I think overall the Italian food selection in Edmonton is pretty impressive. Cheers mate!
How do you make an Edmonton restaurant list without covering the massive donair scene and the unique history with it?!?
Take 5 is amazing
Love that place, although I heard a rumor they were closing!
There is a Vietnamese place-Coe Due Hoe which is decent and ok priced. I need to try these places
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback and the restaurant recommendation!
Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ on jasper ave is really good
I appreciate the recommendation, cheers - I haven't been there! Cheers mate
@@strangenorth make sure to go with a friend or two, good portions bit pricey but when split with 2,3 friend not too bad
@@strangenorth Thank you sir. I will definitely go check out Tony’s next time I’m in Edmonton. I grew up there and my family is there.
@@judgegixxer Right on, it's a sweet spot with some authentic Italian pizza - all the best to you and your family!
First off I've lived in every major city in Canada and I have the following to say about Edmonton in particular;
- If you reside in Edmonton, don't expect to actually "live" by any reasonable standard.
The Take 5 Coffee shop is in the heart of the Edmonton's stabbing district . Gang war and prostitute central . If you need a donut that bad go armed
lol fair, rough area but it's worth getting a concealed carry just for their baked goods
Bro, pls do a video on best takeout. So far I find Eddy food so bad I stopped eating out or getting takeout years ago. Been here 15 years. Halifax was so much better. Real Chinese and Donair.
Especially south end cos the best places seem concentrated in the north end.
Route 99 is a dump, terribly greasy food, uncomfortable seating.
I like the Bolgogi House recommendation. And the Irish pub next door. But bro, you listed zero south end eateries.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback! Hmmm let me get back to you on some good takeout places
Sir! Padmanadi needs to be on this list. Hands down the best vegan food known to man. ❤
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - that place is great too!
what is the best donair
Hey man thanks for the question - seems like people have been saying Swiss Donair is one of the best in the city. Appreciate you watching, cheers mate!
Back when it was open nourish was good lol but they painted it pink and shut down
I loved that place, I used to be vegan and I ate there all the time, wish they stayed open!
@@strangenorth Hahaha. I stole their dessert chef!! She's all mine now :) (she recommended your channel) @TheFoodExplorerPodcast
For coffee check out Transcend Coffee and burgers Jacks burgers St Alberta, Battistas calzones off 118ave and good Ukrainian food go to Yo Baba’s
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback! Good choices, and that actually reminds me to check out Battistas because I've been meaning to. Cheers mate!
👍👍
Thanks for watching!
bautista's calzone company is really good too
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - I've heard great things about that p[lace but I haven't been yet! Cheers
BJ's the burger joint best in Edmonton
Thanks for the recommendation!
cosmos greek kitchen on 124 ( Lamb is delicious)
Panini's Italian Cucina
Time out pub on 66 ave
Montys in Secord
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - those are some great recommendations! Cheers mate
Edmonton needs a Firehouse Subs.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - I'm not too familiar with that one!
People has different taste but I always like suggestions. There are some of the places you mention I never been or heard about but I will like to try .
Thanks for watching - these are definitely my personal picks, and others will disagree with me. But I definitely enjoy the places I listed, Edmonton has a decent amount of options! Cheers mate
Really McDonalds of all places lol 😆 😂 You and I have a big difference in food cause McDonalds burgers taste like Cardboard
Haven’t lived in Edmonton for many years. What happened to Cittas, Sorentos or Sorentinos and Smokey Joes. All epic.
Sorrentinos still has multiple locations in Edmonton, great spot. Cheers mate
Is Hap's Hungry House still a going concern? I liked the food and service. I should see if it is still open. I hope luck is on my side.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - yeah you bet, that place is still around and it has a good reputation! Cheers mate
Wow, commodore vs 99 and you say commodore because cleanliness.. *subscibe*
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback - I still can't believe anyone is watching my little videos honestly. I do like Route 99, and for my next road trip to the USA I want to have breakfast there to begin my journey. But I prefer Commodore overall. Cheers!
Anyone know of any places with crinkle fries and chicken gravy?
Can't think of anything off the bat but I'll get back to you if I find out - that sounds great btw. Cheers mate, thanks for watching!
For the best pizza, you got to try Capital pizza on 76th street & 144 avenue. You won't regret it! For the best steaks, NO restaurant can beat the Coliseum steak & pizza, located on 118 avenue & 80th street.
Thanks for watching - and great call, that place is fantastic! I love the vintage vibe in there too. Cheers mate
