I just borked the threads on my brand new axle (don’t ask lol) so I’m gonna try this out. Thanks!
thanks from an old man needing a refresher
I have never watched you guys before, I will have to say I am rather impressed. Seems like most people today would just whip out the credit card and buy new. You guys did this old school and fixed it yourself with what you had available. I loved how you explained a thread gage fitting into the threads like a puzzle. Then you held the loose die( not a tap like you said in video) in the die handle that was from the tap and die kit. You guys did it the best you could with what you had, and it turned out just fine. Thought I would share with you
You make a cute couple and I hope you have good life together. You relaly handled that well and the way you held the shaft just shows how much you both enjoyed doing this together. I laughed when you said "whip it out" at the end, Definitly knew your where together I really enjoyed the video and your hidden message ...
I would reduce the damaged thread diameter and simply allow the nut to slide over it. And let it pick up the undamaged thread, if that's where it is going to be. No need for a thread file or die set.
Great video! Definitely helped me out 😀 Thank you
Loved the music for the video!
Great video guys! Love your attitude and philosophy on trying to fix a problem. I'll be trying to fix one of the spindles on my riding lawnmower. Not about to totally disassemble the deck to get to the spindle assemblies underneath. Going to try to put her on one of the sides so I can stand up to get some leverage and better sightlines to attempt a rethread. I don't think laying on my back trying this evolution is a very good idea. I'm optimistic about this though!
I’m literally going to be rethreading this with the wheel and everything still in, so I won’t have to worry about anything moving lol. Right?
Thanks for the vid my dudes it's videos like deez that answer my little stupid questions
Wen u try showing something small try putting your hand behind it it definitely helps alot
Thanks buddy! Could you comment where you bought your tools and brand?
Thank you I have the same problem only its a lower Ball Joint the nut wont screw on
LOL I should've had you guys repair my threads before I goofed them
Im doing the front end on my 04 ford explorer and replaced my hub assembly and messed up my shaft the nut went on just flush of the shaft before becoming absolutely fucked with out taking the axle completly of could i do this process on the vehicle.
I have an electric motor with a 1/2" threaded axle that has threads damaged down to the shaft as in your video. To re-thread the valleys wouldn't you have to drop down a diameter in your die? For example from 1/2" to 7/16?"
I was trying to use a posi lock 110 on a kia sportage axle. Axle has 4 holes in the end for the pin. Blasted the shit out of it so hard it's been compressed down and the holes are now oval. Tried really careful dremel work but nut just refuses to go on right. Guess I'll have to try a die. Probably gonna have to fix threads and then I think I'm gonna weld fill the damn holes before I take it off and then re chase the threads & redrill a hole.
I messed up the threads on my FWD car rear axle spindle. I tried to find a replacement axel but unfortunatly couldnt find one niether locally or online. I had to rethread the threads to the end right to where the nut stops. The nut went in ok and i torqued it to factory specs and had no problems there. I know its not a recomanded repair but since i couldnt find the part and cant afford to buy another car i had no choice.
Nice job but did you spend more on that snap on set than a new axle? As a another viewer said you could have just ground off the threads that were damaged they have no use in this case.
Tip .use cutting oil as you tap, thread or drill anymetal .
If you could have bought a split die that could have saved you a lot of aggravation, I just used one on my motorcycle crankshaft, it worked great.
Yamaha r6?
Was thinking of trying this on a countershaft that had a sprocket welded to it. Honda XRL
What is the name of that bar
What kit did you use?!
otc makes a universal thread repair tool. Great for chasing annd reforming threads.. not sure itd work on a spindle that buggered up.... but it indexes off of good threads and might be a hair less $$$ than a full die set. They're about 120 with chasers for sae and metric sets and only care about thread pitch, not diameter.
Did this in the minutes on the side of the highway. Put that dye on and a pipe wrench and turn that beotch
Hey, I am doing almost the same rear conversion on my Datsun. I chose the non turbo 300zx diff so I could use a 4.6 final. Its the T3 R200 conversion. I didnt buy the whole subframe though, so I probably paid more, haha. I only have axles and driveshaft to go before I can bolt everything on. Check out my vids, not well produced I'm afraid. If you have any questions or comments let me know.
Awesome .... we'll definitely check em out!!
...if you have a bad one that the die won't fix...a good machine shop can fix threads good as new for less than the cost of another axle shaft...
But is it left or right hand
Try using silbertool thread repair tools and you can reduce the time for a perfect repair to 15 seconds
