Her live performance of Ball and Chain at the Monterey Pop Festival 1967 is MUST SEE - there is a video labeled "Janis Joplin - Ball and Chain (sensational performance at Monterey)" - that's the one you'll want. Also, her live cover of "Summertime" is astonishing. Performed in 1969...she died in 1970. You can see she's in serious trouble, but "Summertime" has been called an "outrageously brilliant performance" - and it is.
Her live performance of Ball & Chain at the Monterrey Pop Festival is amazing. You can see Cass Elliot (of the Mamas & Papas) in the crowd get blown away by the performance.
My man in the short sleeve shirt and tie having his best day. Respect
Yes Janice died at 27 from a heroin overdose and she also had severe drinking issues...But she still managed to produce a great output of music in her 6-7 yr career that still continues to awe and inspire.. Although I've heard better live performances the vibe was hip with the pll on stage...Watch the vid for the song Ball and Chain live 1967 Monterey Pop Festival...One of the best performances in any era gere 🧐✌️🤘
I have the Forever 27 poster with her, Cobain, Hendrix, and Morrison. This was when I was a teen in the early 90s, so before Amy Winehouse…
the greatest rock performance of all time .
wow Brian Yates , you’ve heard better live performances. Really? Of what ,and by whom? Did it come with video?
Richard Nixon had her killed. She had been sober for 3 months then dies of a hotshot? My aunt knew her personally This was Nixons doing. Fvker could never get Grace Slick .but Grace almost dosed Nixon..3 feet away until sec service figured out her aka
Janis was truly a once in a lifetime artist. Greatest female rock singer for sure. She put 120% of her soul into every song she sang. It’s sad that she died not realizing how much her music was truly loved. There will never be another “Pearl”.
One of the most beautifully unique and textured voices. Janis was an absolute phenom.
Janice was simply one of a kind taken far far too soon.
She had a passion and rasp that has never and will never be duplicated.
Janis was a legend. She had a tragic life and was bullied in high school. She is one of the 27 club.
The Monterey Pop Festival where she performed 'Ball and Chain' shook the music world. 'Summertime' is my personal favorite. 'Mercedes Benz' is a wonderful soft version that I enjoyed b/c of her laughter. Enjoy exploring her music. She stands the test of time.
👍An iconic performance!! 🖖❤
Ahhhhh...My girl..Janis..she Rocks! and Stevie Nicks as well ..Stevie is my all time favorite from Fleetwood Mac..Great Choice of Janis!
Janis was born in Port Arthur Texas, she sang the raspy blues. Her schoolmates were G.W. Bailey of the Closer and Major Crimes fame, and Jimmy Johnson who treated her like crap and made fun of her.
Janis had more soul than any rap, hip hop and R&B artist out their today. Jim
I LOVE YOU JANIS !
The greatest female singer ever...
Janis had a very difficult time growing up in Texas and I always wondered if the heartache and mistreatment she got from her high school classmates helped her develop her blues and soulfulness sound. I definitely think her low self esteem issues lead her to seek comfort in whiskey and heroin, such a damn shame. Some very talented and gifted people don’t like themselves which seems a bit counterintuitive. R.I.P. Janice.
Country singer faith Hill did a cover of it and it's probably the most popular cover of the song
When I was 15 I heard Janice for the first time. I'm in my 60's now and I still listen to Janice! I will always be a fan!
If I am not mistaken, this is Janis performing in front of American GI's at an army base somewhere in Germany.
My aunt went to high school with Janis Joplin in Orange, TX. Said she was kind of an oddball, loner.
Definitely check out "Cry Baby" live in Toronto by Janis. It's phenomenal
She was the real deal! She was born and raised in south Texas too. She brought that Southern soul sound.
This performance showcases Janis' persona more than her vocal talent.
As others have said, you need to watch her performance at Monterey of Ball and Chain. That was the Janis I remember. I saw her live in 1968 in Philadelphia and it was one of the best concerts I have ever attended.
Amy Winehart vibe. I loved Janis when I was growing up
I grew up in the 70s and was just a kid in the 60s but I am very familiar with her music and the music of the 60s even is had already passed by the time I got into music in the early 70s. As for the song, I know in the U.S. her songs are often covered by women with husky or gritty voices on tv singing competitions like American Idol or America's Got Talent. I would assume that might be the case in the UK and the rest of Europe too.
She was the absolute best!!!!!!! Please do Mercedes Benz and Me and Bobby McGee!!! Please
Greatly gifted performers tend to die young, RIP Ben Woods guitarist, Lynard Skynard plane crash victims, and many, many others.
Rock in peace at the club 27 JJ. 💯❤️🇮🇹🇧🇪
This song also pairs well with 2 alcohol drinks and 1 joint from the of some smokey mountain rocky top weed, shared between 2 people
Cheers to you both! And cheers Dave 😏
A Renegade History of the United States by Thaddeus Russell is an amazing book about lower class people(slaves, prostitutes, etc.) going against social norms and changing history. Jesse Hayman owned brothels and was the dominant power in San Francisco because she was incredibly wealthy. Because of her women started walking alone and dressing less modestly.
You'll have to show her Janis Joplin's "Ball and Chain live at Monterrey Pop " to get the full effect of Janis. It's amazing.
Bobby Mcgee is one of my favorite joplin songs.
Janis dated Jerry Garcia (of the grateful dead)…..
Woodstock!
Janis is Legend in USA
This is far from her best singing of this song , but it really captures the essence of her performing persona .
Mercedes Benz! Her voice is amazing.
If you like this, I suggest "Jimi Hendrix, Live at Monterey 1967."
Sad day when Janis died in ‘70… I loved Me and Bobby McGee and Summertime but many of her other songs were great. Have you ever watched Woodstock documentaries? I think you would love them….
Damn. Its been awhile since I've listened to Janis. To me she is immortal!
Great Reaction 👍🙏🌹
Great.
Janis and Joe Cocker were my favorites. Woodstock
Janis and Tom Jones on live TV, good one to watch. Total 60s vibe. Also, lot of the audience in clip from Germany you watched may be US Army brats over in Europe. There were a lot of them especially in 60s
Right Janis Joplin back catalogue required for Ash - Janis will forever be the best female blues/rock vocalist that has ever lived. Back to school Ash 🤣 (though this will be the best bit of schooling you probably ever will do lol).
Her version of Summertime will blow your mind.
Ill bet Janice was nervous as he'll on that stage, trying to sing being completely surrounded by people no more than a foot away from her🤔
Just packed another Bowl! RIP Janis!
I don’t know why europeans seem skittish of Marijuana …2 drinks and 1 Joint between two people
…some nice music…
Nice weather….
oR a cozy room during bad weather…
Yall will be all set and good to go
Great reaction, as always. After Janis, I think it would be great if you ever did a reaction to Beth Hart. I think a reaction to the video "Beth Hart - Am I The One - Live at Paradiso" would be great start.
she's off her chops here. I wish those close to her kept an eye on her.
Yes, "off" her chops, and delivering a performance someone "on" their chops" never could.
Yes i Loooove that song Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz
🙏Pearl.💔
U should react to steven typers live cover of this song. He kills it.
Irreplaceable!! There will never be another like her or music like that again.
you should react to Eva Cassidy, what an amazing voice!
watch the movie .... THE ROSE . loosely based on janis . bette midler did a great job .
I want to see a where are they now program for all these people dancing on the stage 🙂
That was over 54 years ago, and the people look like they were in their early to mid 20s. So by now they would be around 80 years old and many of them probably have also passed away by now.
@@alexanderwalter4595 I'd like to hear the live ones stories.
The family liliac cover this song very good
I think she is potentially one of the best female singer every, followed by Karen Carpenter and Mama Cass.
love the song, the lectioniæ in ww2..... was not espexted
How about a reaction to Rainbow’s Stargazer
