Yes I also saw and probably filmed this same L-188 at Coventry back in 1996 too, courtesy of my good friend Ron Kosys who worked for Reed Aviation as their base manager there at the time.
Thank you so much, Henry Tenby! My relationship with 188's goes back to 1959. This vid brings back a floor of memories! It is a delight to see one still in ops. The last one I saw in person was in OPF waaaay back when!
Fantastic Steve! Wow ... 59! You are a VERY early L-188 Electra person. Mine was my first visit to VARIG in Brazil in 1988 to fly their Electras. So you had me beat by only 30 years!!! F Awesome!!!

Wow thank you for that terrific Electra history re cap from Australia/NZ region in decades past. Do any of the museum aircraft fly or engine run? One of these years I need to come down and visit the Qantas founder museum as I believe some of their classic airliners are operational to certain degrees. You have a great airline history, specially with Electras.
Before my time as I started with NWT Air in ZF in October of 1991. Lots of great people worked for that company, many serious aviation fans, and fans of the Electra. Although I recall Gary Graham alwsys toldme of the maintenance burden which was them high compared to the 737-210Cs.
My first flight on the Electra was DCA-Newark on Braniff, later American LGA- Syracuse, Rochester, then Air California (ex Qantas) Orange County CA- SFO. But I missed out on Eastern shuttles. Impressive to know they can be used on short runways, recall in the Falklands they were used in and out of Port Stanley 4000+ runway. Such a shame their reputation was marred by the engine/wing weakness that led to reinforcements, but never recovered their excellent reputations.
L-188 performance when empty is spectacular! Nice to see Fox Charlie still out earning a living with Buffalo. When I got into Field Service, I was responsible for tech support to Atlantic Airlines and G-LOFC was one of the tails they operated. Always makes me smile to see the Atlantic color scheme, Union Jack and Kestrel painted inside the cargo door.
Yes I noticed both of those emblems still proudly displayed on the aircraft. My guess is the plane still has a long history to come with Buffalo Airways. Like the DC-3 such a well built aircraft.
The sounds from the takeoff flyover were amazing. It really did sound like a “jetprop”. I.e. it literally sounded like an old jet and a proper flying over at the same time!
Yes I had the same thought too! It is a unique sound for sure. From a different age. Viscounts and Vanguards were the same. They had that air screw sound. You can heart it throught the Beatles song “Back in the USSR” .. that was a Viscount used in that song. I love the sound myself.
Thank you I tried my best. The L-188 landed on 08 whereas 26 would have been much better. Also he taxied in from the runway to Million Air. If he took taxiway Hotel we would have gotten amazing video of the taxi in. So it was less than optimal for video. But at least I got to see this amazing aircraft, and given that it was Buffalo Airways that was very important for me due to my personal connection to the company back in the 1990s.
Well done, Henry. A rare treat indeed! One aircraft I would love to have had the pleasure to ride in. Western Airlines flew them at one time, but I started with them a bit late. Thank you!
Glad you liked it Douglas. I will be uploading the follow on Buffalo Electra video from its visit I filmed yesterday. I was so amazed to see the Lockheed Electra perform 2 days in a row .. at YVR! Dreams do come true!!
My father was born in 1905. My grandmother was challenged every day with the fact that he would rather fly planes than be in high school. His favorite thing was to buzz the high school and make the kids think he was going to take the chimney off. He was 15 or 16 years old when he was doing this and he would get expelled every time. Some old man out at the airport liked him and let him fly his plane of all things. I guess there wasn't a required license at that time because he surely didn't have one. He finally quit high School. I think they just couldn't keep him interested. Anyway, my grandmother finally was able to talk his way into Texas A&M. He graduated as a veterinarian and Captain in the US Army Air Force. By then he had all those multi-engine ratings and flew all those old prop planes. World War II came and he was back in the military flying everyday. His main job was to transport the bigwigs. They always said I was born under the wings of a B-29. Of course, they were joking but I did grow up with the very familiar sound of all the big prop engines and I really miss them and my father very much today. He lived in the times when there were no wonderful helps like radar and GPS and so many other things. Had quite a few harrowing tales about his flats in bad weather. I guess he didn't have much mechanical failure because I don't remember stories of that. He was truly blessed in so many ways. But, this all boils down to the fact that I watch every one of those Buffalo videos I can get my hands on because they remind me of my father and a different time in my life. I was privileged to ride on a few of these big ones and that still remains as great excitement to me. So, thanks for the spotting.
@@JetFlix I guess you have seen the very, very sad news of losing a B-17 & P-63 at the Dallas Air Show yesterday! For the life of me, I don't understand the fateful timing which caused the disaster. Of course, the real cause may yet to be determined. Such a sad loss of lives and historic planes.
Did they use an 'air start truck' for those YVR start ups. When those same Electras operated into my local airfield we always had to crank up the ancient truck... they were the only planes that needed air start ten years ago.
I'd love to see an Electra, never have, love to get a ride in one but they are all cargo now. The Aurora is the closest thing I can get the odd time. These sure sound like a Herc with the similar engines. Some people are real pricks like that mounty mounty. When I bus fan, people will walk in front of the camera and then tell you don't take my picture.
People can be a proper pain in the back side that’s for sure. More so non aviation types. Yes the CP-140 P-3 L-100 C-130 all sound similar with their lovely purring 4 Allison engines! I love their tone.
The last time I saw an Electra was when i saw Buffalo fly this one out of Coventry Airport in the UK.
David in the U.K.

Awesome, thanks for posting........ I was fortunate enough to fly my aircraft to Yellowknife and I managed to see most of the fleet.
Fantastic that must have been fun. It is a neat place. I lived there between 1991 and 1997. The aviation sceen was amazing for an avgeek like me.
Thanks for share to us this nice video👍👋🏼😎👍

Thank you Carl. I put quite an effort into trying to fly on Electras and managed flights on VARIG, Reeve Aleutian, and NWT Air.
Hi again. It's great to see the Electra but I have seen several of the others from the Buffalo folks as well.
Here in Vancouver I have not seen an Electra here since the mid 1980s. It has been a few moons. So happy to see it perform! With its lovely baritone.
Another great video Henry! I’ll be subscribing soon to your JetFlix TV.

I am pretty sure there is an on board APU for starting the engines. It would be mandatory for Northern Canadain operations.
That said I checked the photo I upload to FB and there is a power cart plugged into the front of the plane so maybe I am wrong about the APU?

Indeed thank you James! And very grateful for that 2 days in a row at YVR👏👏👏👏
