I have Gardeners world subscription and with that I got a pack of Zinnia seeds. I planted a batch of them a week ago and I have had a good success rate. Most have germinated, I'd say 95%. I planted in john innes No. 1. Xerochrysum, have also done fairly well, as have echiums (to a lesser extent). I am growing them on South facing windowsill. I live near Glasgow.
Like you my marigolds hardly germinated so actually bought new seeds in case a problem with my collected seeds, nicotiana really struggling same with zinnias but Spanish flags doing well (never grown before) sunflowers very hit and miss. One thing that is doing well are my dahlia cuttings.
Chris I love to grow cannas I do not have a green house so put my cannas in a garage over winter in there pots they are just shooting now and will split a couple that are climbing out of pots? What is a good feed for them? Been using miracle grow but read that its chemicals are not that good?? Any advice please??
Yes, some of my seeds have been hit or miss. Definitely not as good with the peat free compost. Hopefully it will improve in time.
The plant next to your Spanish flag
Germination rates for me generally are a lot worse with the peat-free composts than the products I used to use.
Yes I agree
Yep same here. I've tried most brands and its all very woody and fluffy and dries too quickly. I've started to mix the bagged Wickes topsoil into the compost and seems to be helping.
When is the best time to divide bananas?
Now would be good indoors or late merry May outdoors
Hi Chris.what is the large spiky leaf plant?
At what time,?
