First of all, I am so glad to see another Isi und Ossi fan within the last 7 months! I just got into this wonderful movie last month! Second of all, I love how you keep switching between that night they shared together and their longing and miserable looks when separated. Clearly, it was a great night, because Isi wasn't in a hurry to leave Ossi's apartment the next day, despite receiving all of her money and promising her parents to drop him. And then her cooking suffered as a result, despite it being her favourite thing to do. She couldn't concentrate and spilled ice cream all over herself, and those beef burgers looked pretty burned to me!
A couple of days later, she was essentially admitting to Camilla that she wanted to be with Ossi, while strenuously insisting that she could never be with him. This despite his rude dismissal! She wouldn't have insisted that they could never be together if she hadn't been thinking about it, and I am sure she was thinking about it as early as the very next day after they spent the night together. That thought was following her around for days. Days in which she was perfectly aware of the mould in Ossi's room, his criminal grandfather, and the fact that Ms. Markowski didn't like her. She vented to Camilla to try and justify to herself that it would never work, but she wanted the exact opposite.
Also, Isi went from being bored by Ossi's description of his boxing career, to being more emotionally invested in his pursuing said career than Ossi was. She even went so far as to suggest that Ossi shouldn't be putting his mother ahead of his career-- very risky territory, given this was Ossi's family. And Ossi loved his mother more than he loved himself. He got into debt for her! Isi was shocked by that, and I think that was what made her suddenly become gung-ho about getting him his money. That and seeing his mother interrupt his training and demand that he work at the petrol station, and Ossi's defeated silence and eventual agreement to the same. Isi didn't like that, hence her dramatic insistence that Ossi go to Frankfurt and ditch the petrol station.
Also, the only reason that Isi bought that burger joint was because she loved Ossi and wanted to remain in Mannheim for him. Otherwise, she would have gone to New York. She could make Isi burgers anywhere. Also, full credit to Camilla, the vapid yet surprisingly necessary best friend who made Isi realise that she didn't care about or want the money; she wanted something else. Bottom line: the day after spending the night with Ossi, she stopped being enthusiastic about going to New York. Remember when Ossi boasted that he only knew how to kiss well? Clearly, that wasn't the only thing he knew how to do well, LOL!
I do not apologise for this essay.
