0) **UPDATE** I just now published my reaction to Shin Lim WINNING on AGT The Champions. ---> ruclips.net/video/4aFXmnx6ptE/видео.html 1) Jon Dorenbos performed mentalism on this same episode. Here's my reaction video: ruclips.net/video/KIvV780z8rQ/видео.html 2) NO I DIDN'T stop the video "too early and missed the last part"... you just didn't watch this video far enough! 😂Keep watching after my comments! 3) WOW... I am rewatching Shin's performance again after filming my initial reaction... and I see MORE awesomeness (i.e., cool magician moves) that I didn't even notice the first time around. HE IS A BEAST!!! So fast and flawless. Pretty amazing. 4) If you wanna see TRENDING Magic Industry news... check out my new format of video for this concept! Episode 1: ruclips.net/video/cv1tYubqg-0/видео.html
Jason Parker you should also watch the semi finals act of his last years’ AGT 2018 performance! It’s the same act but longer and more tricks. That one is better than what he did here in the champions.
That cards vanishing from the plastic bag at the end followed by the hand hitting the table looks really not up to his class honestly....other than that he is amazing and my favourite magician...
I like your reaction to Shin Lim's performance, especially you are positive to see another magician's performance without giving negative criticism or showing arrogance. That makes the reaction enjoyable to watch.
Your mention of his use of music: he is actually an accomplished professional musician before he became a magician, therefore his love and great use of music. And it is even more impressive because he just severed his thumb tendons recently and recovered within 6 months even though the doctor said it would take at least 2 years. Everyone talks about how talented he is but i think people underestimate how dedicated and hardworking he is, imagine severing your tendons because you practice so much.
Correct me if I'm wrong; I thought he said he'd CUT his own thumb tendons during a practice of a much more dangerous trick. I don't believe over-working in general can sever...stretch, sprain, even tear (?) but sever?
You are correct Lori, Shin completely severed both of his major contraction thumb tendons while attempting an illusion. I don't think people realize just how bad of a situation that is. 9 out of 10 will never regain function even close to what he has. And while his performances are supremely impressive the passion and will to overcome such a critical injury and in only 6 months is nothing short of a miracle!
When you mention duplicate, I went to find a higher quality to see the signature better, screen shot the card and enlarge if the signature are different in size position, they are the exact same card through out the show, even the ones in the coffee mug. Either its real magic or AGT is helping him fool the audience.
Ah cool that you compared them. If the signatures are exactly the same, I still suspect duplicates, but then I think it must be some fancy photo-copying technology for creating duplicates... assuming the judges are not in on it.
Obviously Shin Lim is a unique performer that deserves all the accolades received so far. I very much appreciated your critique of this particular performance and I especially liked your facial expressions that showed your true enjoyment of it. That's what magic is after all - a delight to be amazed and a sense of wonder. Thank you for your honesty and for posting this.
there's actually a patent for LCD display poker cards. which means.. he pre-programmed the cards to the music, to change its face at certain timings. but if it's foldable LCD display poker cards, then that's some advance tech from the future that not even samsung has managed yet on their phones. still amazing. very.
"Where does he get all the smoke from?!" 😂😂😂 Shin Lim's sleights of hand is near perfection...it is perfectlyrics executed IMO. Even many magicians can't catch it. He is so fast and have practiced so well, his tricks are flawless. 👌 People who say the judges and Terry are part of the script and played along, I don't think that's true. Why would they help the participant cheat? It's a competition that they have to work individually to win. If judges are part of the tricks, why even make it a competition and give $ awards? Doesn't make sense for ppl to think that.
Because it is not a pure competition. Most of them are gimmicked whatsoever. Not to cheat one another, but to give us the best viewing experience to get the most ratings possible. People can still vote. Maybe they use real votes or maybe also manipulated, at this point we can't tell for sure either. As for the prize money, let's just say it's like they pay the contestant for being their "actors and actresses".
From the video we can tell that he actually did something to the card that was pulled out, when he said "can you open the marker". I guess he just put two or more layers of transparent membrane onto the card. So the signiture was on the layers, and also he could get two or more same signitures on the different layers. The rest was to simply put the layers, which had signitures on them, onto some other cards. I don't really know how to demonstrate this in English though...
You look great and whatever you’re doing is just perfect! I watch many others commentating on the same videos and found yours are the most professional and appeasing. So keep up the good work and wish the best for you man!
@@ufopilotFPV even if it's a fake signature how would he know where the judges would sign on the card? Even the fake signatures were on the correct spot 😆
@@cannotthinkofanybetterhandle He tells them "sign right here". You can hear it. I really hope it's not duplicates, but the cups would be impossible without duplicates imo. Tho im no card magician so that means nothing.
@@carpin5859 yeah it's dupes. If u pause some of the videos of shin's acts and look at the signatures, the scribbles sometimes move. But since shin tells the guy to sign on the general location with his finger, it's hard to notice.
He use all trick over again and every RUclips’s could watched it over thousand times before, but this time he did it really quickly and flawless with charmingly presentation
I couldn't agree with you more. I only catch some of the things now because I have rewatched them over and over but he does them so quickly and flawlessly that you just get lost and it feels like magic.
What I have noticed about you Jason and the other pro magicians is you love seeing a great act and are not jealous of each other. In fact you support once another. I think that is wonderful
apparently someone in another youtube video's comment section who bought shin's products told me that the cards in howie's cup was not staged and had no agt helpers. he/she said it was put in the cup before and that shin could get the signature to show up there. he wouldn't reveal the method since he said it's shin's product.
Most everyone here acts as though the fact that Shin isn’t using real “Magic” that this is fake or that he is a scam artist. Magic isn’t real. I’m not even a fan of magic but I am impressed by this guy. This is the first and only performance that I’ve seen. I slowed the video down and figured out a few of the tricks but it makes it no less impressive. His sleight of hand is amazing.
This was 1 of the 1st act I've seen from Shin Lim and it was using interstellar's soundtrack, which made the act so much cooler. I think it was on Penn and Teller
Wee Fishing I’m uploading another one soon actually! Just finished filming and editing... uploading and gotta make some catchy thumbnail... should be ready to watch in about an hour! :) Oh and it’s reacting to Jon Dorenbos, the other magician from the same episode
Jason Parker awesome!! Yeah i read the pinned comment u made. I love most of the acts. Especially Shin Lim and Jon Dorenbos. So im excited to watch you react to Jon’s performance. 👏🏼👏🏼
Great video. The only explanation to this trick is having duplicate cards. Since Shin has already preformed this trick on liable shows, I'm certain Howey and Terry aren't in on it. That means Shin used some kind of gimmick to get the duplicates. In the act, the way Shin asks them to sign the cards looks very suspicious- after they pick a card he asks for the card back for no reason and does something to the card, he points exactly to where he wants them to sign, and the cameras show nothing. Something fishy happened there, but I'm not sure what! Pretty sure it has to do with the ink of the shaprie, but again, I have no idea. What do you think?
Yes! You know I noticed that suspicious behavior as well. Shin even does a top change if you look closely when he is working with Terry. But yeah... EXACTLY what you said... I'm not 100% sure why he does this. It could be he is using a deck with like 7 of the same card in a row to make for an easier classic force... and then he needs to switch it for a different card that is a special gimmick used for making duplicates. Yeah he has them sign on a specific area... and has them doing it right at the edge of the table. I know there are several duplicate signature card tricks for sale out there at magic websites.... i've never bought one so I don't know what technology is currently being used. But.... anyway its at least clear to me that he is indeed using duplicates. I don't like the one behind Howie's chair because it kinda screams that he had that particular duplicate card created before the trick even began.... :-|
Definitely love your react videos!!! I love watching good magician react to others! You are real in your critiques and I respect that, no sugar coating!
THE KEY: The marker is the standard gimmicked dry erase ink Sharpie on the market. The secret is not that he cloned the signatures. The secret is that he erased the signature made by the judge. The deck is one way force deck in its middle. He has to swap the card after the judge picks it with a card previously signed on the opposite end. After the judge signs that card, under cover of the otherwise useless ridge on the desk to hide the real signature from the cameras, he rubs the real signature away and shows the prepared camera ready signature that exists on his duplicate cards and in the judge's cup, as preloaded by production. You can very easily tell that Howie signs the opposite side of the card to what we are shown. How he gets a signature in advance is either "pre show" (likely "rehearsals") or the production team got them for him (they absolutely partake in the setup by doing things like edits and knowing where the camera can't go) via some other means.
I really hate it when someone trys to take apart a magicians act .Im glad you praised him as well he is incredibly skilled .I dont want to know how its done it looks fantastic .
The only issue I have is that I have watched him so much I'm picking up on settle hand movements my mind and eye missed before. I can't tell what he is doing, nor do I want to, but the more I watch his act the more I start to pick up on things.
How is that an issue? We all have seen his act just as many times you. Either you know how he does what he does, or you think you do. Best to just applaud.
Really enjoyed your comments! And thank you for not giving it away if you do know how he does it because I don’t want to know I like the magic part, but it’s great hearing from another magician on what you think about a top magician🎩⚡️🌏
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! If you like this, you might really enjoy another video I made recently called Magic News.... it's only ep 1 so far :)
I've been watching Shin Lim's performances on RUclips. both in Got Talent and Penn & Teller Fool Us. This performance is the same performance he did on one episode of Fool Us. I wasn't awed with this because I've seen it before. Still, he's the best!
Shin has been blowing me away since I saw him on Penn & Teller Fool us...(twice!) I agree that his act is as much performance art as it is slight of hand magic. Love watching his stuff.
Each card corved with a thin and removeable laminated layer. each card's pattern also printed on that laminate layer. if the mark pen's ink can penetrate the laminate layer. then you can stick it onto skin and any blank card. blank card inside the plastic bag. laminate layer stick on outside.
To be honest I had never heard of Shin Lim until I watched AGT champions and I just got to say he is incredible! His whole performance with the music, the hand movements, the hair and the artistry of the tricks...just top notch! I couldn’t help but ho back and watch some of his earlier stuff and honestly have to say I’ve never seen anyone like him...he is a master! On your critique I would have to say that saying he’s using duplicates would mean that he is having the show help him with his routine and I don’t think that they would want to damage the credibility of their reputation and as a top talent show look like they are being dishonest with the audience. I think it comes off on your part a bit lazy in trying to explain the trick to us and I thought that I was going to get a more in-depth explanation from you being that you’re a magician. Also saying you think you know what he did here or there without telling us...your viewers makes me feel like this video was like click bait than anything of actual substance. And I would lose the earbud if I were you...what...are you expecting a call while you’re filming your reaction??? C’mon man! 😂
He is using duplicates. Whether or not the judges/show were working with him. If you don't believe me, that's fine... we are entitled to our own opinions. Also I am trying to walk a fine line on exposure. I want to talk about the act and give my thoughts, but I don't necessarily want to explain everything he did. (Penn & Teller on Fool Us often will just say he fooled us or he did not...and they don't stop and explain the method to the entire audience... which would be a bit of a shame.) Also nothing in my title indicates I'm going to reveal how everything worked. It is a magician reacting to another magician's performance. That's it! :) The earbud I was using to listen the performance video clip so it wouldn't be recorded into the audience for this video. At some points I forgot to remove it because I was focused on sharing my thoughts on the performance.
As a fellow magician and a fan of shin’s since Fool us, I broke down and bought dream and 52 shades of red. I HIGHLY recommend it! They’re available at shinlimmagic.com. Oh. He also sells kadabra. The distortion card in his 9 of hearts performance. Just saying. It’s worth the $ to see how his mind works. And you’ll fool yourself at first it’s so good! And these acts were kickers to those acts! He’s the best! 👏🏻
Yeah I would be curious to watch Shin's full explanation and reasoning for all the moves he chose to do and the sequencing. Would be very interesting. But I'm trying to slow down my magic purchases for now as I need to catch up on learning effects I bought in previous years first lol... probably a common magician problem. Yeah I saw he was selling Kadabra... it looks beautiful! Must be some highly elaborate construction to have all those pips moving around
Jason Parker I was the same dude. I own books upon books - I trust you have Erdnase and expert card technique. I hadn’t bought effects in a WHILE so I bought Shin’s effects. If you want a cheap buy before he won FISM, get Shinanigens. It’s a very different Shin Lim bc it’s prior to him even going into his first FISM (I believe he won 6th in the world and 1st in North America). And that was without Dream or 52 Shades. So while he’s reserved, he teaches well and you learn like 26 effects. And it’s like $20. That’s the first Shin Lim thing I ever owned. It was when he was on theory11. Anyways. I enjoyed your reactions. Plus your card handling is on point dude. Well done 👍🏻
Yes you are right, he was using duplicates but the judges weren't in on it... after the judges pick their cards, Shin Lim asks them to hand over the chosen card (and also open the sharpie, as a distraction) and while the judges open the sharpie he slips multiple pass-through "onion skins" beneath the chosen card (the judges sign only once but make multiple signatures >>> duplicate cards)
@jason I love that you hearted this, because you and I both know that I am not detracting from you or anyone else in saying this, it's just a Shin thing lol. Love your videos man, keep it up
I love watching pros admire and respect other pros...like watching the NBA dunk contest during the All Stars weekend...the pro players sitting in the stands are even more excited watching their peers excel...so fun! Respect!
Hey thanks very much! I think you are the first person to say anything about my presence on camera. I feel like this "reacting" is all new to me... so I'm trying to figure out the right way to film these things. Oh by the way... another commenter said the camera was too zoomed in on me. I would be curious to hear your thoughts?
warlie vecina I do that move again in one of my older videos... deck review for green (or maybe red?) gatorbacks david Blaine Cards. It’s a very difficult move to be honest! 😄
I have a theory that the way they do it is they have them sign the card during rehearsal and run a slightly different trick (to not spoil the surprise) then keep that extra card for the actual show :-)
Ben Sleight Magician what about the card in Howie‘s chair and also in his cup on the judges table? These 2 pieces are different from the original dream act. Maybe duplicates were created ahead of time for these two alterations to the original act?
@@JasonParkerMagic lets privately talk about this I am a consultant for tv magic and know exactly how these things go down You can add me on facebook if you want and we can talk privately without revealing to many secrets to the public 😁✌
Great Videos Jason. Not only their content but your total impartiality when commenting. You say it as it is. I only subscribed after watching several vids. I'm a magician too. But the only trick I can perform is making my money disappear as soon I get it. You're the Man. Keep up the fantastic work.
I enjoyed your video immensely, seem some critics already and was glad that your video didnt turn out to be more criticism than compliment. He sure is an amazing magician, just wish he would perform some magic on his hair :-)
I guess Shim uses duplicates, but I don't think he got them ahead of time. I believe he somehow transfers the ink from the signed cards to their relative duplicates
I think the cards in the cup and on the chair might be duplicates, but the others are not. Because in his original dream act that he performed for fism, the spectators were chose randomly and the signatures were less specific than Howie and Terry’s. No matter what Shin Lim is amazing and enjoy his performances so much
The multiple signed cards part is a trick that the audience isn't a part of (in the original Dream Act) and is a gimmick that i think Shin sells as a part of his Dream Act. how come it sounds like you haven't seen Shin Lim's Dream Act though? That's his most iconic act on Penn and Teller Fool Us and is the best version on RUclips as well. As for the additional parts he added (chair and cup), i do not know if he used some new technology or if they cheated (as AGT is known for cheating so i wouldn't say it's out of the question). but the duplicate cards in the original act won him FISM and Fool Us, and plants/stooges aren't allowed on either, plus Shin sells the trick on his website i believe. i am on the same boat as you, except that i'm only mainly suspecting the chair and cup. and i wouldn't understand why he would ruin his perfect act if the chair/cup was cheating, unless AGT didn't like his legit skills and pressured him to join the cheaters. either that or he was like "screw it this is AGT."
Yeah that makes sense. I could see how on AGT you have to compete on the same level as everyone else. I'm not doubting his skills as a magician at all... but the chair really left me feeling like there were duplicates. Perhaps even that Shin just looked up Howie's celebrity signature online and made his own duplicate beforehand without Howie's knowledge. I haven't looked into any magic tricks that Shim sells himself. And I am not sure if I have (or have not) seen Shin's Dream Act on Fool Us...... I have a feeling that I have. But I'll double check and find out...
@@JasonParkerMagic thanks. his fool us version is the best imo. btw, the chair and cup are extras and have me suspicious as well. i just meant the other ones are from dream act.
@@JasonParkerMagic if i had to force a theory, he could have used some mirror/string contraption with sleight of hand to pull the card behind Howie after he signed it. but seeing that it's AGT, they probably volunteered to sit on it in advance. the cup i cannot even form a theory on. i hate how AGT is doing this to a FISM and Fool Us champion. the sacred riana and aaron are cheaters and they need it, but shin doesn't need it imo and he's a proven champion.
He told them to sign a specific part of the card so I feel like he looked up their signatures before hand and signed those cards and had someone put them in the cup before the performance. Then if the signatures looked pretty much the same at the end of the trick shin would just use this part as a add on. If they they changed their signatures he just would've never said anything about the cup. And yes he did use duplicate cards on stage but it's called clone and it takes a persons signed card and duplicates it with a special gimmick.
Little late commenting but i noticed especially on Terry's card the signature is in fact different every time, Shin had at least 3 duplicates of each card. That is why he told them where to sign on the card. And when he does Howie's card you see him put one on top but then bottom deals the card to Howie to sign.
Hey dude if you are magic analyst, I'm ask how shin lim does the smoke from his mouth and also the card had smoke right at the table. I was so amazed without hiding on his arm...
Think for a moment. Would a judge help Shin create a second card? It seems unlikely because he has to be a fair judge. How can he fairly judge if he created a duplicate?
Hey Jason Parker, at 4:53 did you notice how he held the plastic using thumb and index? At 4:55 you notice that he was holding the plastic using the middle finger and the thumb. So by switching fingers, definitely there is a duplicate behind the card.
In the original routine he has not a signed duplicate. For this particular show especially the cup thing, I don't know, but if he done the same way as before, the dream act has no duplicate signed cards.
So, about the duplicate card issue, Shin did something very similar to this routine his first time on Fool Us and, to my understanding, Penn & Teller has a strict protocol in place that keeps performers and audience from cross pollinating, so I don't think that multiple cards were in play.
The thing is that he did this switching of the cards on Penn and Teller too with random audience participants and they dont accept pre-performance work. Of course there are moments when one can catch small things, but his artistry is amazing. I see him like a magicians magician. Something that all magicians can enjoy watching and admiring. A kind if unique style of presentation due to his background in performance music
I am fairly certain they are duplicates, because there really isn't another explanation. The question is, where did he create the duplicates? Is it a copy he created on the fly? Two cards behind each other that print through when they signed? Although I think in Penn and Teller people stepped through the performance frame by frame and the signatures didn't match... allegedly.
Is it possible that he is creating a "carbon copy" of their signatures? He is very precise with his instructions about where to sign the card, plus both times he takes the selected card back before returning it again for the signature. You can see that he is adding something to the card while he is having them open the marker. This is more evident when he is interacting with Terry.
3:58 I suspect it is a duplicate. He is holding 2 cards. The duplicate and a blank card. He insert the duplicate at his jacket. I am assuming there are 3 copies.
Late reply... One thing that strikes me as odd, is that the table they use to sign the card has this lamp, aka bright light. Could be used in conjuncture with a camera and printer maybe to duplicate the signature. Look closely how they are signing the cards close to that light.
I have only ever watched magic on You Tube but both cards were folded in his mouth then later including in the cup they don't look like they were ever folded. He has to be creating duplicates right? Also Seems very specific were on table he gets them to sign. But then again I know nothing.
Tim Pate actually when Howie holds them up (9:19) I looked for that and the 2 has been clearly folded into quarters, you can even tell when he’s got his back to the camera you can still see the fold marks. Couldn’t be sure about the 10, but my guess is it was, but that these were dupes someone planted possibly before Shin even got on stage, or maybe Shin going up and chatting before filming started, maybe walking up with his own branded cup and swapping them with sleight of hand, I doubt the judges are in on it. Regardless, I agree that it was just a little adder, not as impressive as the rest of the act.
Actually I agree with both of you guys... :) These all seem like likely options. I'm not sure if he had the duplicates ahead of time or somehow using technology created them at the time of performance... but he was certainly using duplicates.
@Jason Parker when he grabs howie's card around @1:48 he picks up the card and flicks the top card on to the table, storing the original on the bottom of the deck. This is amazing! Not sure if you caught that or someone else did, watch at .25 speed.
He’s so great that you can know the method and technique but you still get your ass fooled every time. Even replaying and looking at the slow mo you can’t catch anything. He’s legit magic man lol Also I’m glade you noticed his whole act this time the faces and gestures etc. good stuff haha On another note I received my 1st playing cards V2 yesterday. Pumped!!! It won’t be long until yours arrive buddy!!!
Yeah it's crazy! Just now I noticed him doing something I didn't see before.... and he did it LIGHTNING QUICK. Yeah his gestures and acting and stuff is both dramatic and funny at the same time. Makes for good entertainment. Especially since he must be self aware about it... but just goes full in anyway. Awesome, glad you received your cards!! I got a brick and I saw on IG Chris said the brick orders are being shipped out later. Waa waa waa waaaaa. Maybe I should have paid $40 instead of the measly $30 I paid for shipping (in the states).... 😄
I ordered them just in time. I wanted to get the special offer brick with the v1 but they were all sold out so I just bought a couple instead. Well you’ll receive them soon enough and I can’t wait to see your review on them.
Let's take a full look at Shin Lim’s act, with the overarching assumption that there are copied cards in play. Alert 1: The following reverse-engineered reconstruction is one continuous spoiler, possibly. Alert 2: I am just as in awe of Shin’s performance as any viewer. He is an amazing magician. Alert 3: Hardly any mention of Shin’s masterful sleight of hand. I concentrate on the workings. First a list of ASSUMPTIONS, second a list of FACTS, third a walkthrough of the CORE ACT. ASSUMPTIONS : I assume all of the following to be true. A) There are multiple cards, already hand-copied or reproduced-printed from publicly available signatures of Howie and Terry. The copying is done by Shin’s assistants, not by Howie or Terry. A) Both men’s manner of signing will have been studied. The placing of the card in front of them, and the position of Shin’s fingers directs them to the right corner and writing direction. A) Terry and Howie are asked by Shin to be uninformed participants. He chose them. A) None of the judges, Terry, AGT-production office or AGT-crew are in on the act (*). Nobody outside of Shin, his assistants, and maybe his girlfriend, know what is going on. [ (*) possible exception in case of the cup is mentioned below] A) The box-table is rigged for parts of the act, and is handled and brought on stage by Shin’s assistants. A) A card-cannon shoots Howie’s card no.2 on the chair through a slit in the table, as soon as Howie rises. Calculated and tested to reach the seating surface. Remote controlled by assistant behind the curtains or hand-operated by an assistant inside the table-box. The chairs are marked on the floor. The card is made static and the plastic chair has a closed back. (OR … Card no.2 was placed by a ‘crew-member’ when helping Howie sit down. Risky.) A) A temporary tattoo of a Clover 10 card with Howie’s signature is placed on Shin’s chest in the dressingroom before the show. A) Beforehand Terry was asked to put the question: “Where are the cards?” before the judges start talking. [Btw: Common practice among host and performers in pre-show contacts, to ask for a question about certain subjects, etc. That does not make such moments staged at all, in my opinion. Terry did not know what was coming after his question.] A) A Shin assistant has put a plastic bag, with two cards inside it, in a cup that is placed in front of Howie’s judge-seat. This was done during the preparation just before the act would start. Howie has not drunk from it, since the act starts with him already sitting on stage. A) ATG-production/crew may have given permission for inserting the bag in the cup, since Howie would not consume from it, or the bag was slipped in unknowingly to them. A) Howie will have been told beforehand by Shin’(s assistants) that he would not be exposed to anything that would offend his OCD. Having been told that earlier, when taking the cards out and showing them around, it may have triggered his not-serious remark about the cards having been in Shin’s mouth, acting as if been ’sullied’, playing along to the audience on his known affliction. (Howie once was hypnotised on the show and lost his OCD momentarily. That was not told to him beforehand, I guess.) A) The Clover 10 card in the cup has not been in Shin’s mouth, neither on Howie’s chair. A) Terry has not touched that Heart 2 in the cup, nor has it been in Shin’s back-pocket. A) Both cards in the bag in the cup have been folded to appear alike to the ones handled and shown by Shin on stage. FACTS : F) We do not see the selection of the judges. There is no ‘randomness’ to that, but it is also common for performers to choose the judges for their acts. F) Nobody gets to see the faces of the fanned deck when Shin presents it to Howie. F) Both men are asked to write their signature. Not any scribble. F) Nobody gets to see the faces of the fanned deck when Shin presents it to Terry. F) When flipping the plastic bag, to reveal Heart 2 now being inside, Shin rotates the bag 180 degrees while swinging upwards, by changing the fingers that hold the bag. See before and after. F) The swapping of the deck-with-cards for a deck to-crush-in-smoke happens in a split-second, and requires him to sit on his knees behind the rigged table. F) We do not see the filling of the cups or the placing on the judges table. F) There was water in the cup, because some drops fall off when Howie holds it up. But only residu after emptying, because otherwise the bag would be dripping. His fingers stay dry. CORE ACT : CA) The Smoking Mouth Just before Howie’s card will be smoked into a blank on the table, Shin puts the deck in his mouth. Ample opportunity to slide a folded card in as well. The smoking card on the table distracts us so he can position the folded card properly in his mouth. Putting the deck in his mouth has no reason or function for what happens before or after, except as a smuggle moment. The smoking card on the table just draws our attention, and we forget why that deck was in his mouth. Some smoke does wonders. CA) The Multiple Signatures Shin does about the same core-act with both Howie’s and Terry’s signed cards. Because Terry’s signature is more clear and distinct than Howie’s, and is shown more visible during the act, I took screenshots of his signature whenever in sight and still for a moment, and compared them. I will concentrate on that sequence : 1) Terry signs card no.1 and shows it to us. 2) Shin reveals card no.2 from his back-pocket. Different signature. 3) Shin reveals card no.3 from over his right shoulder. Again different signature. During this reveal Shin is putting folded card no.4 with smoke-pill in his mouth. 4) Shin takes folded card no.4 out of his mouth. Again different signature. 5) Shin reveals card no.5 in plastic bag. Again different signature. 6) Shin reveals the card now outside the bag again. This is the same folded card no.4 that he pulled out of his mouth. 7) Howie pulls out card no.6 from the bag in the cup. Again different signature. Counting: Terry’s sequence uses 5 prepared cards, and they are not identical. [About why using different versions of the signatures, instead of one, I am tempted to write another comment. But it’s bedtime, so good night, sleep tight.]
Yeah I think most of this sounds about right to me! haha! You wrote a long one this time! :D I also think it would have been an option for Shin to drop a duplicate card in between Howie's back the chair as Howie is sitting down, especially if Shin helped position the chair and asked Howie to sit there. But we don't know, because this part of the video is not included. For the duplicate cards... I think either like you said Shin's assistants created the duplicates ahead of time or else Shin created the duplicates in real time using some special devices. I know there are magic effects for sale to duplicate a spectator's signature on playing cards.
@@JasonParkerMagic -- At some point during your reaction and review I stopped being just stunned by Shin, and wanted to know it. I had to figure it out. It took a while to get it down to the simplest solution, because I started with overhead camera's and transparent parts of the table, snapping screenshots to show a person hidden under the table-box, copying in real time by hand, sliding these duplicates to Shin, and shooting it onto the chair. Only the card-cannon survived that first phase. Then I quickly got into the signatures themselves. Two celebrities, many authographs given to fans, they are Shin's selection, ... what more do you need to prepare cards in advance? I went through Shin's performance throughouly and checked if all my assumptions could be happening. Saw some neat tricks of Shin, like the plastic-bag-flip. To settle the signature matter, but specifically to be able to count the duplicates used, I took the screenshots of Terry's cards and that finished the puzzle. To being honest: I would have loved if people were hidden underneath and copying just in time, etc. And running up to the judges table for the cup, when the audience is distracted by what's happening on stage. It was a more captivating story, and I regretted to have to let it go. But there was just no need for such a charade. Just some cards prepared in advance, and then some superb sleigth of hand, and most of all the showmanship of Shin that do it. Consider the openly 'not-fair' choices, where nobody objected against, because one does not do such a thing on global television: a) Who? Shin selected the participants for his act, giving him all the capabilities to prepare for these individuals. b) What? Shin told them to put their signatures on the cards, and forced them to to do that on a specific place, size and angle on the card. c) Which? Shin does not show the faces of the fanned deck, to confirm there are only unique cards in there. Is that a fair choice? a, b, c = Shin is an amazing handler of cards ... and the audience. I enjoyed his performance and your reaction-review. But there is another superb handler of cards; You. I really enjoy your intro's, wow.
@@JasonParkerMagic -- PS. Your suggestion that it was Shin himself who put the card under Howie's ass-istant-to-sitting-bodypart is simply GREAT. That makes the most sense. I hereby withdraw the still too-far-fetched 'card-cannon' for consideration of the means to get the card on the chair. It must have been Shin's masterfully handling and distraction.
@@JasonParkerMagic -- Ha, maybe I should give it a try and build one, to see how well it delivers a card. The big flaw of the card-cannon is the draft. Howie just got up from the seat, creating turbulences, stage lamps are heating some areas more than others, and ofcourse Shin himself who creates hurricanes with his swiping of his hair ;-) The card might not make it, ruining the reveal with a dud. When Shin slides the card down himself while helpfully escorting Howie to his seat, he will know if that went right, and can even anticipate when not.
Shin is the best magician I've ever seen..I enjoyed watching him..he is incredible made the cards vanished...how did he do it...cards went in to Howie...
This is the exact act he performed for penn and tellers Fool Us You dont have a reaction for that video. I was actually looking for that on your channel :]
Jason you are a magician bro .you gotta know how it is done. Seriously I mean is this a new tech in magic that you can dubble sign cards or real magic? Plz tell me my mind is blowing
My guess is the duplicate is being made with special pen with possibly special ink. while the person is signing it. He first has them pick a card. takes it from them kinda flips it around while he is learning what card it is. Then very smoothly, stacks a 2nd or 3rd under the original before he gives it back to them to sign. remember this is only a guess because the dude is a master!
I wonder why Shin Lim, after both Howie and Terry select their cards, takes the card and moves it near the deck and then returns the card for them to sign? Why didn't he just have them sign the card without taking it first? And I wonder if Howie was in on the last trick. He could have put the cards in his cup. The cup seems like it didn't have liquid in it. And Howie didn't drop the cards immediately when he realized they were in Shin's mouth. He waited until he finished his line to dramatically throw the cards down in disgust. The best magic is Mel B-- how did she make that hand sanitizer appear in an instant? Actually, the whole trick that was added after Shin's act seems to have been scripted: Terry asked where the cards were which was a perfect lead into the trick which seemed to be rehearsed because it unfolded so quickly. Notice that Heidi and Simon stand to get a closer look at the cards -- that gives a great "visual" to make it seem more unbelievable.
Howie didnt pick the card by random, shin set it that way from the beginning, the only possibility that this card trick could work is that when shin lim fanned out the cards only showing the red side...means he has complete control over the whole trick. Easily couldve been all 10s (all the cards he fanned out for howie to pick st random)... Meaning shin used a special deck made for this routine. So with this in mind, those duplicates either came before the performance or howie signed a gimmicked card. Meaning this card had some sort of special film so shin can easily paste it onto his other 10s he had hidden in his deck.
What i cant explain is how he got the card under howie.... Thats what doesn't make sense.....maybe the camera panned out of shins view meaning we mustve missed a crucial moment of how he was able to slip it right under howie.

Seems like it
Your mention of his use of music: he is actually an accomplished professional musician before he became a magician, therefore his love and great use of music.
I love the way you humbly use your expertise to highlight that of another. And your honest marvelling at parts of the performance.
Thanks jarson Parker, when I start watching I thought you want to criticize shin lim but you did a great job by acknowledging him. 👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
Ability Mike glad you enjoyed the video! I’m trying to provide some kind of balanced opinion. And yes, I think his level of skill is amazing!
If the signatures are exactly the same, I still suspect duplicates, but then I think it must be some fancy photo-copying technology for creating duplicates... assuming the judges are not in on it.
they sign the cards on the edge of the table. There is a deadspot for camera. Maybe they change printed duplicates there?
@@JasonParkerMagic they are not exactly the same. HE definately forged their signatures
Daniel D How did he know where they were going to sign? Each signed in different locations. And, how did he know how big or small they would write?

Obviously Shin Lim is a unique performer that deserves all the accolades received so far. I very much appreciated your critique of this particular performance and I especially liked your facial expressions that showed your true enjoyment of it. That's what magic is after all - a delight to be amazed and a sense of wonder. Thank you for your honesty and for posting this.
there's actually a patent for LCD display poker cards. which means.. he pre-programmed the cards to the music, to change its face at certain timings. but if it's foldable LCD display poker cards, then that's some advance tech from the future that not even samsung has managed yet on their phones. still amazing. very.
they were folded in his mouth
"Where does he get all the smoke from?!" 😂😂😂 Shin Lim's sleights of hand is near perfection...it is perfectlyrics executed IMO. Even many magicians can't catch it. He is so fast and have practiced so well, his tricks are flawless. 👌
People who say the judges and Terry are part of the script and played along, I don't think that's true.

Thank you :)
Nice reaction video! I liked how you paused to comment during the video this time instead of waiting until the end.
Also I like how you had the ace flip out of the deck in the intro sequence.
Thanks! Trying to make these videos more enjoyable ! :)
A very giving critique of a professional while remaining entertained as well. Well done Mr. Parker!

Each card corved with a thin and removeable laminated layer. each card's pattern also printed on that laminate layer. if the mark pen's ink can penetrate the laminate layer. then you can stick it onto skin and any blank card. blank card inside the plastic bag. laminate layer stick on outside.

4:54 creates the most incredible visual effect. The audience always gasp the loudest at this point because it transcends physical and rational limits.
@@KinnereyB Hey thanks very much! I feel privileged to have someone knowledgeable about magic like yourself commenting here! Have a great week :)
Wow! I never thought about that....
I knew their must be some reason he kept putting the card on top of his deck before giving it to them to sign. I think you are on to something
So get that he must somehow duplicate the signature during the performance, but how does he get the cards into the cup?
hmm nice. Watching it back, he really directs exactly where howie should sign..maybe the passthrough therefor is only at a certain box on the card ?!

Azu Shi ahh yeah... I just watched the dream act and see it was largely the same as what he did on this act... hmmm lol
He made it 2 years in row! Super super star!
yeah!!!
Little late commenting but i noticed especially on Terry's card the signature is in fact different every time, Shin had at least 3 duplicates of each card. That is why he told them where to sign on the card.
And when he does Howie's card you see him put one on top but then bottom deals the card to Howie to sign.
I think when he asks them to hold the marker he adds more of the same card that they have chosen and makes them sign more than 1 card
Hey dude if you are magic analyst, I'm ask how shin lim does the smoke from his mouth and also the card had smoke right at the table. I was so amazed without hiding on his arm...
Shin Lim back to back WINNER Champion of Champions !
Edward Xiong awwww yeah! It’s awesome! I just made a reaction vid for that too... an hour ago!
THANKS for ur honesty when u admitted u didnt catch something. i think Shin mixes old tricks and REAL MAGIC in his act!!!!
if you watch at 3:25 he def does something with the card he hands to Terry. Looks like possible roughing and the signature goes on both cards.
Jason i love your reaction to Shin Lim He is super and amazing magician in the whole world from philippines❤
I really enjoy watching shim Lin perform. I think he’s awesome. He puts on a very fun entertaining performance
David Boivin Yes for sure! Did you ever see David Blaine’s real or magic special? One of my favorites ...
Although I think in Penn and Teller people stepped through the performance frame by frame and the signatures didn't match... allegedly.
I wish he did his vanishing marker trick.
Go at 4:53 and play it on 0:25 speed. If you pause at the right time you can realize that you just lost 2 minutes of your life
He is just sexy likable good looking asian american .
Yeah I think maybe tech to copy the signature? Seems very specific where he put the card and the fact he needs to handle the card once selected.
@Jason Parker when he grabs howie's card around @1:48 he picks up the card and flicks the top card on to the table, storing the original on the bottom of the deck. This is amazing! Not sure if you caught that or someone else did, watch at .25 speed.
Hey Jason, love what you do on watching and giving your thoughts. Hope to see more of that
He’s so great that you can know the method and technique but you still get your ass fooled every time. Even replaying and looking at the slow mo you can’t catch anything. He’s legit magic man lol
Also I’m glade you noticed his whole act this time the faces and gestures etc. good stuff haha
On another note I received my 1st playing cards V2 yesterday.
First a list of ASSUMPTIONS,
second a list of FACTS,
third a walkthrough of the CORE ACT.
ASSUMPTIONS :
I assume all of the following to be true.
[ (*) possible exception in case of the cup is mentioned below]
A) The box-table is rigged for parts of the act, and is handled and brought on stage by Shin’s assistants.
Risky.)
A) A temporary tattoo of a Clover 10 card with Howie’s signature is placed on Shin’s chest in the dressingroom before the show.
A) Beforehand Terry was asked to put the question: “Where are the cards?” before the judges start talking. [Btw: Common practice among host and performers in pre-show contacts, to ask for a question about certain subjects, etc. That does not make such moments staged at all, in my opinion. Terry did not know what was coming after his question.]
A) A Shin assistant has put a plastic bag, with two cards inside it, in a cup that is placed in front of Howie’s judge-seat.
That was not told to him beforehand, I guess.)
A) The Clover 10 card in the cup has not been in Shin’s mouth, neither on Howie’s chair.
A) Terry has not touched that Heart 2 in the cup, nor has it been in Shin’s back-pocket.
A) Both cards in the bag in the cup have been folded to appear alike to the ones handled and shown by Shin on stage.
FACTS :
F) We do not see the selection of the judges.
CORE ACT :
CA) The Smoking Mouth
Just before Howie’s card will be smoked into a blank on the table, Shin puts the deck in his mouth.
CA) The Multiple Signatures
Shin does about the same core-act with both Howie’s and Terry’s signed cards.
Because Terry’s signature is more clear and distinct than Howie’s, and is shown more visible during the act, I took screenshots of his signature whenever in sight and still for a moment, and compared them. I will concentrate on that sequence :
1) Terry signs card no.1 and shows it to us.
Consider the openly 'not-fair' choices, where nobody objected against, because one does not do such a thing on global television:
a) Who?
@@tubularap But I like your idea of a card cannon! :)
@@JasonParkerMagic -- Ha, maybe I should give it a try and build one, to see how well it delivers a card.
The big flaw of the card-cannon is the draft. Howie just got up from the seat, creating turbulences, stage lamps are heating some areas more than others, and ofcourse Shin himself who creates hurricanes with his swiping of his hair ;-)
The card might not make it, ruining the reveal with a dud. When Shin slides the card down himself while helpfully escorting Howie to his seat, he will know if that went right, and can even anticipate when not.
Shin is the best magician I've ever seen..I enjoyed watching him..he is incredible made the cards vanished...how did he do it...cards went in to Howie...
What's really crazy is that Shin Lim had to have his hand reconstructed before he started magic again and before this performance.
There were no duplicate cards. He performed this routine a few years back at pen and teller with randomly selected audience
tt6368 but it doesn’t mean he can’t have some way to create duplicate cards, right?
This is the exact act he performed for penn and tellers Fool Us
You dont have a reaction for that video.
Actually, the whole trick that was added after Shin's act seems to have been scripted:
Terry asked where the cards were which was a perfect lead into the trick which seemed to be rehearsed because it unfolded so quickly.
Notice that Heidi and Simon stand to get a closer look at the cards -- that gives a great "visual" to make it seem more unbelievable.
Excellent observations... You're on the right track. Lots of BS going on here
You should watch it till end,and see where the cards went
mpho mabatha check my pinned comment below ;)
i was thinking duplicate cards but how would Howie picked a card he sign earlier?
Bro. Lets appreciate the act. This guy is awesome
B BECHRA exactly!
Lovely reaction bro
Thabiso Khanyile thanks :)
I believe David Copperfield is basically only performing in Vegas now.
