OK, I will explain to you and also to non-Malaysians. Malaysia has 3 Federal Territories namely, KL, PutraJaya and Labuan. The Federal Territory of KL (also known as the Klang Valley) and Putrajaya is surrounded by the State of Selangor. That's why KL has its own flag. Hope you understand.

Happy to see you guys taking a friend around the city. I think there are a lot of misconception about Malaysia. The Malaysia that is known to the outside world is peninsula-centric where the bulk of the population reside. The major races are Malays, Chinese and Indians. East Malaysian population is mostly made up of Dayaks (still keep their identity very distinct from each other), Chinese & Malays. Malaysia is a federation of three partners. Kuala Lumpur is the CAPITAL city therefore you get to see all sort of people in it.
7:30 That's the flag of Kuala Lumpur. It is one of the three Federal Territories (together with Putrajaya dan Labuan island). Every state/State has their own flag. 1st. Feb. is a public holiday for the three FTs.
For your information, Malaysia has a minority Thai community too originally from the northern states like Kedah. So, it's not surprising that Thai food also makes part of the Malaysian cuisine.

Guys, the flag you saw at KLCC Park is actually the flag for Federal Territory. In Malaysia, there are 13 states and 3 federal territories namely KL, Putrajaya and Labuan. KL also has its own flag. But I'm not sure whether the flag is used for the 3 different federal territories. When the federation of Malaysia is formed in 1965, after Malaya independence in 1957, the flag of Malaysia has 14 white and red stripes, symbol of 13 states and 1 federal territory, but now there are 3 federal territories.

OMG!! This is the Federal Territories flag. However, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan (the 3 constituent parts of the Federal Territories) have their own flag.
Though the Federal Territories are treated as a state but it is not a state. There are only 13 states in Malaysia [Federal Constitution Part 1, Section 1(2)].
The 14th stripe is for Singapore which was expelled in 1965.
About the Federal Territories its stated in [Federal Constitution Part 1, Section 1(4)].
Most people are confused by this.
So the legal flags are of the 13 States, 3 Federal Territories and a flag for the Federal Territory.
Some state districts have their own flags too.

To be a little bit more accurate. The tri colors flag (yellow, blue, red), actually that is the flag of Malaysia's Federal Territory, NOT Kuala Lumpur's flag. The Federal Territory consists of 3 separate land areas. 2 in Peninsular Malaysia, i.e., Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. 1 in Borneo, i.e.. Labuan. To make matters more confusing to you guys, each of these areas also has its own flag in addition to the Federal Territory flag, i.e., Kuala Lumpur has its own flag, Putrajaya has its own flag, and Labuan has its own flag. But off course all 3 of these areas are part of Malaysia's Federal Territory. Hence they also share the tri colors flag which you saw at KLCC Park.
Don't worry, even some Malaysians dont know this 🙂
1st level flag : Malaysia Flag
2nd level flag : Federal Territory Flag (horizontal Yellow, Blue, Red)
3rd level flag : Individual flag for each territories
Kuala Lumpur flag (horizontal red white stripes sandwich blue)
Putrajaya flag (vertical blue, yellow, blue)
Labuan flag (horizontal red, white, blue)

the explanation on the flag is slightly incorrect, kuala lumpur is a federal territory not a state
to put it simply it's like wasington d.c. in the usa that's why K.L. is located in the state selangor, and melaka is both the name of the state and a city in melaka

Touting suppose to be illegal in Malaysia... Local authority DBKL should act more to stop those activities, especially at touristy areas. It's so damn annoying even to us as a local...
FYI... Federal territories are kinda a state within a state... Just like San Marino or the Vatican. Both KL & Putrajaya territories are located / surrounded by the state Selangor. If you look closely, there are 3 little stars beneath the flag's emblem. 1 more territory is located in Sabah called Labuan. It's an island territory at the north of Sabah ( pretty close to Brunei & the Mindanao island of the Philippines ).

It is still bright at 7pm because of standardisation of time in Malaysia. Prime Minister of Malaysia then, Tun Mahathir Mohamad on 31 December 1981 declared that people in Peninsular Malaysia would adjust their clocks ahead by 30 minutes to match the time in use in East Malaysia.

For specific halal Malay foods find Malay muslim owned restaurants in Kampung Baru or other locations.
