I COULD NOT AGREE WITH YOU MORE ON YOUR ASSESSMENT OF SPRINGBANK..!!! 🥃THANK YOU..!!! 👏🙏👍 This is a textbook case for the "Scarcity Principle", an economic theory that examines the relationship between supply, demand and pricing. I would pick Glen Scotia Victoriana over these two bottles any day of the week. I would even pick the lower proof Glen Scotia 15 and Edradour Caledonia over these two.
Hi Jason, very nice review. As an alternative I would go for Kilchoman or Bruichladdich, both have similar business profiles as Springbank. Kilchoman do even have their own barley fields.
Some good points here. I haven't come across flavour profiles quite like those of Springbank anywhere else on my whisky journey, so I don't think there is any point trying to find the unicorn. It might actually be more rewarding sifting through the vast array of other products and finding something that stands up quite well on its own merits.
I was lucky to catch this at my local shop back around the beginning of January for 129. So the 500 is a bit insane. I was also lucky enough to get the 2022 and 2021 local barley 10 and 11. For a super deal 160 and 170 all in euros by the way. Also I am an American living here in Stuttgart Germany and have some really good connections for whisky. Cheers
amazing review i am new in whisky worl ( 3 years ) tasted alot ( from 30$ to 250 $ price ) so most of all i love Springbank , hazelburn glen scotia laphroaig adn ballechin. oh almost forgot tobermory 14 marsala
I very much agree Jason -- Springbank should double their prices so that they, rather than sellers on the secondary market, are rewarded for making whiskies that have integrity.
I dont agree. Prices are high as they are and even though there are flippers, lots of people just want to drink good whisky. Doubling the prices would make whiskies like these unobtainable.
$800 here in the US. It's just insane at this point. I'm I'm giving up on Springbank for the time being. As for alternatives: KK is an obvious choice but their prices are getting crazy too ($200 for 8yr Port Cask; $100 for the standard 12). Benromach, Craigellachie and Ardnamurchin kinda sorta fill the void.
Springbank CS/15 replacement for me is Benromach cask strength, the rest of the range doesn't do it for me but the CS is very good.....SB10 is a bit more singular I think but good IB's of Ardmore are usually a good bet
Good review Jason. Wonder when this madness with springbank expressions is going to end. Agree with Benromach as an alternative. Just to think, last year I picked up two bottles of springbank 10 in my local wine merchant for €42 each. Not bad. Cheers Jason.
You got it right, they make 100% of their own malt. They could double what they make if they did 50% malt their own and 50% buying malt. 600 euro for this is really stupid by the way.
Springbank alternatives? Well, I have been sipping on some peated Millstone expressions that are very good, and am now giving some ex-bourbon Bimber a go... There's just too much hype leading to overpricing and scarcity when it comes to Springbank.
@@WhiskyJason1 And just to get a bit closer to the actual Springbank taste, This morning after work I poured a Benromach 15, which tasted a lot like Springbank 15, followed by a dram of Benromach Smoky 12, and I got a very similar experience to Springbank without the hype or price tag... There are ALWAYS alternatives!
I do know u r not a collector but what u paid for this is an absolute steel. A++++ in value. If you got another and left it unopened and then collected the whole set for these Springbank finishes over the next few years, they will be a pretty penny.
Craigellachie 13 is a great alterative to the 10.
maybe - thanks!

Thanks Lorenz!! Edradour Caledonia for the win!
Hi Jason, very nice review.
As an alternative I would go for Kilchoman or Bruichladdich, both have similar business profiles as Springbank.
Kilchoman do even have their own barley fields.
Great suggestion!
Really enjoyed the video. For a SB alternative I would look at Ardmore from independent bottlers.
Ardmore - Good choice!
I don't get that much peat from Springbank...my Ardmore expressions are Laph10 CS killers.

good luck finding something that stands up quite well on its own merits

I would much rather see the money go to Springbank
When you mentioned the Mash Tun, are you referring to the Washback Bar? That place opened in 2021.
yes - the Washback Bar - thanks!

Ardnamurchin & Benromach - Kilkerran ist also hard to find

Springbank 10 for €42 - nice!!
I agree with this honest review especially about the prices. Glad we didn’t give you Covid at least.
but I did come home from Scotland with Covid :-(

So they need more malting floors - for Springbank and Kilkerran
Completely agree, Benromach is my springbank alternative as well. I think it's only a matter of time before we see the speculators start buying it up.
Sshhhhh, agreed, Benromach is the new springbank x
maybe Benromach is the next hyped whisky - who knows
Whisky retailers greed is why they charge the public those insane prices.
yep - insane prices

Springbank - is just too much hype

You mean the washback bar?
yes - the washback bar
Markets don’t lie. The reason why it’s sells for £420 on the auctions. It’s collector value & demand from drinkers. This stuff is liquid gold.
Markets do lie and bubbles do bust

not a collector bit thanks
@@WhiskyJason1 I think whiskey will be one of the first bubbles to burst, when money gets tight for people whisky is an easy decision to sell
lets wait and see
