Very interesting topic.
I am thinking of what from this list of technologies I can adopt?
1. Additive manufacturing - very specialized components are being manufactured by this technology, where i work only prototype parts being ordered and vendor manufactured the parts. I just design them. It doesn't affect my method of work.
2. Augmented reality - CAD rendering and DMU in simple screen is enough. AR is for much more complex products like car, bus, truck, ships and aeroplane. Whereas I work on engine components, and it doesn't affect my deliverables.
3. Autonomous robots - In our assembly lines robotic automation doesn't find any application. And also if they are implemented, it will not affect my designs. Although it may affect the operators working in assy. Line.
Also I don't have a specialization in design of robots. Sure it sounds interesting. But again who will hire me when I am starting from start in robotics. They need some experience.
4. Big data analytics - these are for those working in statistics side. I conceptualize, design and test prototypes. I doesn't see application of of it in my job description.
5. The cloud - this is where plm system end user like me see the application. And I am just a end user. I don't get the idea of learning it and apply. It just save a lot of time and help me release the design as soon as possible.
6. Cyber security - that is pure IT. It has nothing in it for me to do.
7. System integration - again it is pure IT domain.
8. Internet of things - doesn't going to affect my line of work. I work on my work station that is enough I don't application of my phone or a tablet pc affecting my work. But it may affect departal information conveying time.
I don't see myself going for training on any of above to enhance my career. This may be end application for me. But not my next hot skills. Again I am interested to learn robot design in future. But robots are not widely required in india.
Industrial designs looks attractive. But that is not on the list.
