Thanks Great content, I test rode the T7 this week, but decided that although it is a great ride my CRF300 is more fun and capable for the rides I do 🎶
Nice video, seems like you understood everything : light is always easier!! Not to mention the amount of power on the CRF is largely enough! So why do a lot of guys ride big bikes?
Id say that theyre lost in their ambitions and want to do the Dakar without leaving the county lol. Off road riding is tough and exhausting on these big bikes. A good question.
I wonder how much of it is ego. They like to think of themselves as someone that needs a big powerful bike. That and motorway miles. No doubt a bigger bike is way more comfortable on the fast roads. Not getting blown around and stressing a small engine at 80mph is attractive. But as soon as you are on a steep trail or going through some deep mud I know what I would rather be on.
It's an impossible question to answer really, because we all will come at from different angles. I have a CRF450L, which is arguably a way better trail bike than the 300L, it's lighter, better suspension, more trail focused as it's based on the MX version, and more power. But I'm gonna also get a T7 as sometimes I want a challenge, I don't want it to be easy, if I wanted it easy then I could go well just get a WR450F, adventurise it and crack on - perfect. But there's way more to this than the bike, skill level comes into it, what we like the look of (I can't stand 790/890s, so ugly) and budget. I think if you're smiling at the end of it then you're on the right bike - if it's easy then to me it takes away from the adventure.
I did consider the 450L, and you are right, better suspension, better for serious off road. but all the reviews I have seen seem to suggest its not great on slow single track, stalling and more work for the rider. (it comes alive when you go fast of course)... as I tend to ride slower over technical stuff (more boring but I get there safe at least) I think the 450L may just not be a fit for me... of course I should try one soon hopefully and find out for myself.
@@biscuitsalive standard bike stalled at slow speed but everyone changes the ECU which makes it way better. Its brilliant at slow speed, and because it's lighter than the 250/300 its therefore more nimble. Greg Villalobos and Dave Lomax did a great review of the standard bike Vs the EXC450 and they both point out its good at slow speeds. Problem is with many reviews its just an average rider who isn't skilled or knowledgeable in many bikes, so has no base for comparison. There's nothing wrong with the 300L, this is all just personal choice, no right or wrong, we all want different things. Im about to buy a T7 as well as by 450L, doing too may miles on the Honda as it's so much fun to ride, but the lanes near me are very simple!
I'd say it's more up to skills than the bike. If you'd carry more speed and weight them footpegs you would have enjoyed T7 more. But... my personal choice was CRF300LR :)
Agree there. I never claim to be a great rider. Only got my licence last year. But been off road lots since then and tried a bunch of different bikes now. So I feel like I’m finding the one that makes it fun and makes me feel like I can tackle any trail with confidence.
Donatas, I’m going through the same realizations. I have a new KLX and the ease and fun factor is two fold offroad compared to powerful and heavy. I can maneuver the small bike easier. I get to use the whole throttle on the KLX. I ride the bike, not the other way around. The controllability is so much better and easier.
Cool video, thank you. I've recently bought a t7 besides my 250L Rally. For sure I will not sell my 250 before I've experienced the T7 thoroughly offroad. Weight handling will be my challenge for sure. Spoiled by the lightweight Honda...
There isn’t many places the T7 can’t go with the right tyres on. But it’s just much more serious if things go wrong. (It comes down hard and fast when things eventually go shiny side down.) Just be careful, the T7 encourages you to go fast... hence the fun... and the issue.
Great explanation with real world footage! I was also in the market voor an upgrade to my XT 660 Z Tenere, but I've ditched the T7 idea and am going for the CRF300L route! I was just wondering how you are managing the small fuel tank and range. Rotopax or just more fuel stops?
ive just finished TET Devon, and I did have one sticky moment when I nearly ran out of fuel. but that's its the first time in 4000 miles. the tank is tiny and range isn't great, but bare in mind the bike easily does 90-100mpg. so the range in not quite as bad as it may sound when you compare it to bikes with bigger tanks. personally I don't think I need a bigger tank. and im happy to top it up twice a day one VERY long rides. anything to keep the weight down I reckon.
You will get blasted by the wind and blown around by side winds etc. The Honda can cruise at 75mph easily enough. But any light bike isn’t as comfortable on fast runs. The bikes sweet spot is anything from 10mph to 50mph really. I may get a mini wind shield to add for any long journeys, but ideally I just won’t use it like that.
I wonder what youd think of my old Honda SLR 650? copes with the gentle lanes ok but a bit big. My old MZ TS250 although a road bike with knobblie tyres was a breeze on most of the lanes but its even more fun on a Chinese Monkey bike. It just makes mincemeat out of any trail. Check my channel. Good video. Im thinking smaller bikes definitely the way to go.
Thanks

Has anyone mentioned the improved conditions and lack of wet leaves on crf300l's run?
Such a nice little bike. But the sound of the T7 though 😛😍
Totally agree. Since selling the T7 I ride with guys with them often and always super jealous of the soundtrack.

Just picked up a CRF300l on the weekend and after a ride on my F750GS today it felt like a boring fat pig of a bike and I'm thinking of selling it 😂
@@johnjohnb8024 I go greenlaning on a Chinese Monkeybike 70cc it's so good at it

Thanks for the comparison! What model that tank bag is? Thanks!
It’s GIVI. Fairly cheap amazon job. But it does the job ok. (Giant loop ones look better tho)

I’m 5’9” and 220 lbs (100kg). Will the Honda 300L still work for me?
I’m 5’8 T about 85k.
It should be fine. But u may want to upgrade suspension depending on how hard you ride.
How about Honda on highways or long distances?
After meeting a gentleman on a Grom doing Ushuaia to Prudhoe, it’s all about your mindset.

What’s the screen on the left side of the handlebar? Thx.
Oxford heated grips. Recommend
I’m liking this video, but I wish that I could like it twice just for the phrase “piece of piss”
