This rendition must be up there with the very best. His voice is just about about perfect for this piece. And although he clearly sings it in the operatic style, he couldn't do it any other way. Very pleasing to hear to hear a verse sung in English, with excellent diction and phrasing. All accompanied by a fine sensitive orchestra.
Your quite right re Bjorlings rendition. Matchless. But there's no doubt about it- this fellow sings it beautifully. A lyric, clear, and uncomplicated sound. And gives us the piece in two languages. Ticks almost all the boxes.

O Holy Night is such a great vehicle for the light, flexible voice of a leggero tenor like Juan Flórez. Too often we hear it belted out by the likes of Caruso, Björling, Pavarotti and Domingo - which is dramatic, exciting, etc - but I believe it should be left to the male equivalent of a lyric coloratura.
In Europe, at Easter, we look for hidden Easter eggs in the garden. At Christmas, Juan Diego looks for hidden Christmas figurines. ...it must be an old Peruvian custom :-)
