"It is astonishing how humiliating beginning a piece is. And yet every time I start a piece, I feel like a preschooler." Fantastic observation and comforting words for any composer who hasn't scaled the heights John Adams has, for sure. :)
I don’t know anything about this guy but what I took away from this video is that a novice and practiced composer start from the same place. Frustrated, uninspired, humiliated. But the difference between the two is whether they decide to “run with it” when that idea comes, instead of giving up when the next wave of musicians block inevitably arrives

John Adams is one of my heroes. And as a young aspiring composer, it’s nice to hear that even the greats struggle when starting a piece of music.
