A big thanks to you for this video. I have a 1978 750K that had the choke knob sheared the same way yours had. I kept the old cable in place and routed the new one to find that it was much shorter like you found. I then followed the routing that you used for yours and lo and behold it fitted. Fished the end into the choke lever arm, tightened it down and i now have a knob i can pull (as the actress said to the bishop!). Thanks for posting this, still helpful 4 years later!!
Man, you make spot on videos! Perfect camera angles and just enough jokes to keep a concise walk through entertaining. Would have been nice to see more detail on adjusting the slack for this line as well as for the throttle cable at the carb-end in one of your previous videos. As for future content, I'd love to see the same simple "user-serviceable" type stuff like this as well as more complex engine/transmission repairs on some classic Craigslist finds. CL and Facebook marketplace are littered with awesome bikes that would be fun to ride.. if they could turn over. Not exactly a moneymaker, but the value is in doing what you love!
Hey Mike I couldn't agree more. Doing what you love is key to being happy in my books. I have been scouring my local Facebook and Kijiji ads for my next project. Currently checking out bikes, 4runners and land cruisers. One of those three is A LOT more affordable than the others hah!
Thanks David. I can't find/decide on what would be a decent donor for a bobber. I like the style of the triumph Bonneville bobber, kind of a sportier take on the style.
Hey Mike, Cyrille from Montreal here. My choke cable is new and the plunger that holds it up top is bang on. I think the lever that connects to the carbs is the problem and more precisely the springs. Ya I didn't know there were 2 springs down there. Do you have any videos on how those springs are set up? My choke is funky and I have to push and pull it to get anything done. The downside is that you need to take the carbs off to get any work done (especially if were talking those springs). Anyways if you do great (have any videos) if not I'll find some. Oh and it's a 78' cb550 four K. Cheers mate. PS - Is the old Seahorse Tavern on Argyle still around?
Hey Cyrille! The seahorse is no longer on Argyle. Its in the basement of The Marquee now! As for your choke/carb issue. I actually have some cb550 videos in the hopper. I just haven't had the time to edit them. I'll keep your comment in mind to see if I can help you out though.
@@Mike_Barker Hey Mike, I wish it was more than just the choke cable. It seems the butterfly valves on my carbs aren't closing all the way when the cable is pulled. ALL 4 valves move in sync but I'm wondering somehow they were installed at the wrong angle (or position) to begin with. On fb honda cb550 page folks are telling to take apart the rod that holds the valves and choke lever assembly (and the springs) and remount the whole thing properly. This is definitely beyond my expertise. Wish I could share the video and show you. I'd love some feedback from a pro.
I have a 250 superdream and the choke plunger seems stuck. Won't push in or pull out and it's about half way out. Does it need a new cable or is there something else wrong?
@@Mike_Barker ok well I have just ordered a new cable as it was only £8 so hopefully that fixes it. I'm assuming the process should be pretty much the same as your video?
We're getting closer to putting ol' Ron up for sale... what should my next project be?
Mike Barker hondamatic 750
HONDA MATIC?!?!?! I wouldn't scoff at an auto... But it wouldn't be my first choice either 🤔🤣
A Honda Cbx 1000
1000%!!!! Pretty hard to find around here... But it would be an amazing project. 😃😃

Haha! I've never heard the bit about the actress and the bishop. Glad it was helpful
You entertain and teach at the same time!
Thank you Mike
Excellent video. Very good in focus views of the tight areas.
Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks for taking the time to make this. Its going to help me change the choke on my 550.
No problem Mario. Is the 550 the same setup as the 750? Let me know!
Perfect balance for the vid. Thanks for taking the time to make it. This will help me a lot. Blessings from England, man. Real cool stuff. Subbed.
Thanks Matty! I'm glad you found it helpful.
Great video. Informative with a dash of warped. :)
Nice to see you back at it! I think a bobber project would be sick. I enjoy all your videos! Keep them rolling in man 👍🏻

I totally agree
Yah, that was kind of kinky you installing the choke cable 😂. Great and helpful video. Thanks

Fantastic video, thanks.
Thanks for watching it Jim!
cb750 honda trike!
Would the process be simmillar for an 81 cb 900c?
It's very possible. I'm not overly familiar with the DOHC Hondas.
@@Mike_Barker k thanks
I have a 250 superdream and the choke plunger seems stuck. Won't push in or pull out and it's about half way out. Does it need a new cable or is there something else wrong?
It could be a couple of different things. It could be a seized cable, or it could be a problem at the carbs.

@@Bigfoot0510 relatively. These old Hondas are a breeze to work on
Does your choke stay up on its own? I got a new cable and it doesn't stay up. Is there anything I can adjust?
On mine I can turn the choke knob a 1/4 turn (yours might be different) and it holds in position.
@@Mike_Barker I can do that, but there are three indentations on the stem, as if it should be possible to set it partially open. Odd.
@@dommy114 ah! Was worth a try.
