- OK, the cat’s out of the bag letting you know this match is a Hill Hill Thriller, but to see how it happened is worth it. Scotland’s 29-year-old Jayson Shaw, an international event winner, in addition to two consecutive U.S. Open 9-Ball titles, was up against a Taiwan legend, 28-year-old Ko Pin-Yi, a former World 9-Ball and World 10-Ball champion. Their skills were tested at the 2017 U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship. One thing is for sure. This match will be etched in your memory for a long time. One of the best Hill HIll matches on record.

Man, you can learn a ton from Corey's good things/bad things observations.
Speaking of Corey, one of the vids I saw not too long ago that I enjoyed was his foray into pyramid pool. Crazy table, crazy game.
Jason is a beast. He has one of the best looking strokes in the game and he earned this win by hanging tough. Great video.
And Jayson is also play quick, kinda a little satisfying watching him play

Great match! An unrelated side observation is that it's amazing how a noisy pool hall with its cacophony of noise -- e.g. breakshots, the background of people talking, the sounds of and at the bar, etc. -- combine to form "white noise" and is actually enjoyable. Yet, a very sensitive microphone in a commentator's booth, combined with this video's audio mix heavy on the commentary booth side and less so on the arena side, yields some distracting noises that make one's ears go "what is that?" E.g. from the microphone on Corey's side, you hear Corey's [great and insightful] comment, then some popping, some mouth noises, the creaking of the chair, then the sound of the springs in Corey's chair, some foot shuffling on the ground as it's obvious he's trying to get comfortable, etc. You hear this with nearly every comment. It's not backgrounded either; it's front and center.

I kinda think Jayson struggles with his cue... I own a meucci from 25 years ago, it was one of the best those days... The new ones... Not so much, I also own the newer meucci model and shaft... but not the high end ones though. New Meuccis is so good and easy to work when using english, but I find it harder to shoot straight and long distance... It just doesn't feel like it shoot straight, tried a few changes on cuetip type and brands... Maybe it's just me but I do made more balls with my other shaft...
I don't really understand the shot clock. It seems like sometimes Ko is taking shots well after the clock hits 0. Like at 27:30
As long as the player is "addressing" the cue ball, it is not a foul when the timer goes to 00. If the player gets off the shot or starts looking around, then it's a foul.
Thanks for the upload. One of the best matches I've seen. By far the worst ref I've ever seen, not to mention his poor attitude that he let show at times. A blind draw from the audience could've done a better job.

At 2:13:20 Shaw licks his finger, and touches the table next to the bottom of the rack... Can someone explain why? Was he pulling the template out? The way the 3 reacts on the break looks like it was funny business.

Yes.
Older KO isn’t as consistent as he used to be… Almost seems like his fire isn’t really there or maybe he doesn’t spend as much time on the table as he used to. Still a good match.

There is a 3 point rule on the break. You get a point for each ball potted and a point for each ball that passes the break line. Score less than 3 and its an illegal break.

I find this habit of the ref , and then the players both examining the racking of balls very unnecessary and really slows down the pace of a match / let the ref set the rack and then play on .

They both got re-racks. But neither one should have gotten one.
@@AccuStats I think at least at one stage the Karl gave a very half-hearted re-rack to Ko (at 8-5 Ko, leading to an illegal break) and seemed to give more of an effort to re-rack for Jayson (including at 10-7). I've never seen Ko complain during a match so I tend to give some credence to his apparent complaint towards the end that Jayson was getting better re-racks (including a full re-rack and cleaned balls at 10-9). It is a shame because Jayson played great towards the end and its not his fault (indeed he was obviously unhappy about a number of racks too), but it does leave a bad taste in my mouth.
I also have to say that it is really hard to understand why he couldn't get the balls to rack properly with new balls on new cloth and the Accu-Rack.
Anyway, great match and thanks for sharing.
