I LOVE this movie. It's sweet, realistic, and I love that there wasn't the usual rom-com conflict between the two people in the relationship. It was so refreshing not to sit through another conflict/misunderstanding or whatever that separates the two, then one has to make some grand gesture or something.... blah. They dated, they fell in love, and the conflict was a realistic pushback from a traditional family that eventually made it work. (chef's kiss)
This movie is a masterpiece! It's one of my favourites. As an italian, I see so much of my family in Tula's family and I think that's the magic of it. Everybody can see something of their own family/culture in it
I'm Jewish and my family and I love this movie with a PASSION! Funny, heartfelt, true and speaks volumes to many cultures who are similar.
As a Greek boy, 99% of that movie is accurate and fantastic. As a Greek Orthodox Christian, I’ve seen her speak at FDF, an event the church runs. It’s fantastic that it’s box office run made more money after its debut, because we greeks are a late people. We don’t show up to things on time.
so true, when we have family dinners, my yiayia tells everyone it is at 5 when its actually at 6 and sure enough, we all still manage to be late
@@Paris.Tserpes dude the glendi’s at FDF always start late but always last till the morning. Never a better time than Greek Dancing in the hallway of a hotel full of grumpy xeni.
My daughter (15) and myself (44) are Puerto Rican and super fans of this franchise! It crosses generations and cultures!
Oh man this kind of behind the scenes trivia is my bread and butter. Would love to see more of these
I just watched this movie recently because i know it's rom-com royalty, but oh my goodness! As a women from an Asian muslim background this was EVERYTHING! I love how much we have in common, big families, food, marriage ❤.
Love to the Greeks.
This is one of my favorite movies. It's hilarious! 🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷
Can't believe this doesn't have more views. I love this movie but didn't know any of this and it was super entertaining to hear.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding is Cinema at it's finest
my comedy duology...i hope they make a 3rd one...they could focus on a double wedding for Paris and Angelo....
I have NEVER clicked on a video so fast! OMG this is my family fav movie! watched it at least a handful of times a year. :D
6:44 Yes, I would love to see more of this
I liked how when Endgame came out, specialists said it would be impossible for the movie to make so much money in a single weekend, because there wouldn’t be enough screens. But then it broke the records because cinemas where taking screens from other films to make room for the demand. Maybe it could be a topic for the channel to explore this kind of incident and other movies that did the same.
Nice video man! Made me want to watch it this weekend
My family adores this movie. We end up quoting it every time someone breaks out the windex.
Wow, I didn't know this movie was so successful. I watched it during quarantine and I loved it. I've watched it several times by now.
One important point that your missing is the amount of screens the movie is on. When the release expends, it makes sense that the box office grows bigger.
Super interesting story. Would love to see more videos like this!
This is awesome content, and a cool addition to the channel roster. I like the recasts, but the deep dives are what really impressed me. Cheers
This was such a fun movie. I saw it for the first time as a freshman in my high school’s world culture club so it brings back good memories
I come from a Greek family. My mom and sister went to go see this movie a dozen times at least in the theaters.
Great video. Always loved box office analysis, didn't know the trajectory of the movie at theaters. Hope you mix this kind of videos with your recastings
Great video Bryan
Love this video. More of these please
Loved this
Yes more of this!
I really loved this video a lot. I'm not a frequent watcher of your content just given that I'm not really into scifi or series but this video was so awesome. I hope you make more content like this!
50 weeks in theaters is two weeks less than a year! WOW!
Me and my family love this movie! We laugh at a lot of the jokes and find it pretty relatable.
I’M PROUD GREEK 💪🏼🇬🇷🇨🇾
I love My Big Fat Greek Wedding, what a great movie. Also The Greatest Showman flopped on the opening weekend, but ended up with more than $500 mil
Great video! Really interesting. I would love to see more videos like this! Can you tell us at the start of the next video if your going to continue doing this style video sometimes?
I love that movie and I think it’s got great comedy.
I really liked your video (and I haven't even seen the movie :'D) and would enjoy more content like this! All the best!
Like this style a lot. I would be interested to see the # of theaters for each week. Was it a limited release at first? That would make sense for the first jump into the millions, but the longevity and other increases are impressive
My absolute favourite film!!
I thought this was your Face reveal LMAO! Love the vid.
Loved this video
Paranormal Activity was a shocking box office hit.
That's crazy, i didn't knew about this
Interesting. Do you know the factors that caused this to happen? Lack of advertising so no one was hyped, then good initial reviews / spread by word of mouth culminating in a slight FOMO craze?
Do a video on why My Big Fat Greek Wedding works and Sweet Home Alabama doesn’t.
So you're telling me this movie was in theaters for a whole freaking year???
Avatar was in theatres for over a year too I think. It never had any big weekends but it somehow almost made 3B World Wide.
Love the vid but I gotta ask, why was the growth of the film the way that it was? What made it so unique for the box office? Why did this happen? I really like this format but I’d love to see these questions answered in future videos
I’m guessing word of mouth.
@@Mai2727 we greeks are old school
The movie was good, but they needed more funds to give it that much advertisement. So that's why they didn't know it was remotely good before watching it.
It was a mix between the movie being good and the fact everybody loved John Corbett due to his character in Sex and the City. Also, America has a large amount of mixed families, half immigrants, half white americans.
That's very interesting but I really wish you had tried to give theories and explain how it's box office became like that, as it is it really seems impossible, so getting some incite to some potential factors would be great.
1. Word of mouth
2. It did not Star any big actors
That's because people LOVE to LAUGH! :)
Cool idea now that spider man is in the mcu and has his own standalone movies but do the villains for him
Please Do Napoleon Dynamite Next!!
I watched every episode of My Big Fat Greek Life when it was airing.
Could you PLEASE recast The Hunger Games?!?! I think you would do such a great job and give a great perspective on it!
What a great movie
Hey, could you maybe do the Expanse Recasting. I mean, not specificaly recasting, but who would you want to see playing the lead roles in (hypotetical) season 7 when characters are supposed to be 30 years older
The third movie is coming soon .
I would love to see a crazy success of Avatar, or maybe even The Snyder Cut.
Next video you should do recasting doctor who for the 14th doctor or 15th
Damn not the vid i was hoping for but great nonetheless!!!!
I’ve never seen this movie. I’ve always wanted to.
Have a shot everytime he says fat and greek
I love My Big Fat Greek Wedding, what a reat movie. Also The Greatest Showman flopped on the opening weekend, but ended up with more than $500 mil
It would’ve been Great to know why it was such a late success
As I remember it, it was word of mouth. My mother has a Greek friend who told her it was too funny and true to life. My mother saw it and told me. I saw it and told my friends. ...
My Mom loves this movie
I wanna see more
Woof
That was interesting and different
My family especially my younger sister *LOVE* this movie.
This was unexpected.
and the recasting
Yes, more of this please! Take a break from the recasting videos... a long break... as long as you can...please!
Can you do a recast of the live action spider verse
can you please recast huntress
So... are you recasting this one?
And how much money did Tom Hanks pump into marketing?
"The original “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” was a fluke. A charming, warmhearted fluke, but a fluke nonetheless. It was broad and sitcom-y but it resonated with a wide array of moviegoers, despite the peculiarities of its cultural specificity, and it made a mind-boggling $369 million worldwide in 2002."
First paragraph from the My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 review on www.rogerebert.com
But why?
Can you do batman forever?
Can we go back to Percy Jackson vids
I’m an idiot I thought you got married
Hey bro, can you make a couple of recasting videos for Teen Titans, Ghost Rider, and Devil May Cry
