I read the news today the 2nd November 2010: Pontiac is no more. that is so sad. Please GM CEO and other GM bosses in Detroit: let just Pontiac GTO live! ...with different engines and inspired of the masterpice design, of the 60th, that was launched by Mr DeLorean and his Team. Don't kill this all American Icon!
Why do I like it? When a company like GM is respected to be the biggest in the world for many years, then something can happen. Morbid vanity (?) - What I love about the GTO is, it's "the American Dream!". The deLorean team created this little car that also young pepople could afford to buy. It became the 2nd biggest after Chevrolet. Then this wonderful car with its beautiful design changed the design and finally the new GM decided to close down Pontiac. They killed the American Dream that day.
@Dragcrazystreetracer The Ford Mustang is an automobile manufactured car by Ford Motor Company. It was initially based on the second generation North American Ford Falcon, a compact car.[1] Introduced early on April 17, 1964,[2] the 1965 Mustang was the automaker's most successful launch since the Model A.[3] Production of the 1965 Mustang began in Dearborn, Michigan on March 9, 1964 and the car was introduced to the public on April 17, 1964 at the New York World's Fair
2 problems with that.... 1. the first mustang came out in LATE 1964 hence it got that name the "64 and 1/2" Mustang, the G.T.O.'s started production in October of 1963.... 2. the mustang is a "pony car" its and a camaro were in there own class for a bit. and the V8 for that car was 260ci.... very lacking when put next to a 389ci The mustang wasnt even a muscle car untill the 302 boss package became avalible in my opinion
@Dragcrazystreetracer Look find me a 62 mustang and i will shake your hand... they started production in 1964 1/2 Pontiac started production in oct. 1963... not only that the first mustangs only had a 260 a small block motor (not a big motor for the time) the gto had a 6.5L 389 (big motor for the time) a muscle car is a big motor in a small car if you realy want to split hairs a 57' ramber rebel with a 327 V8 was the first muscle car.. in 57 that was one of the bigest motors avalible
I mean killed one of the American Dream. There are a lot more of course. But the way this powerful midsized powerful car hit the market is fab! I hope tht we have not heared the last words from GM. Yesterday I saw some new Mustangs in the streets (Europe). Ford has developed the Mustang in the right way. And GM has built an awesome new Camaro. I hope that we will see a REAL Pontiac GTO with the design inspired of the cars in these videos in the future.
wiki can be altered by anyone, not allways a reliable source i've met Jim Wangers (helped desighn the G.T.O. and i own a 64) belive me, the G.T.O's were built first, but in regards to the G.T.O v. G.T.O. they put a larger motor in the pontiac for the race to falseify the statistics... but it worked, the G.T.O. was fast, but not THAT fast.
My favorites are 65, 68, and 69. The judge was the best.
The GTO was the most beautiful, second to none.
...and it still is!
best car ever made!!!
not really, but it really did mean a lot to us car guys
Thank you Chieftec160 for posting this. I just love these three videos - and the story of the Pontiac GTO of course.
I had a 64 in 69, 4speed tripower. I sold it a year later and hated my self ever since. I bought a 68 and sold it the 70's also a dumb move
THIS IS WHY I CALL PONTIAC " KING OF MUSCLE CARS ".

My only question is: what is a clean '64 Tempest GTO worth?
